Hi,
[RANT]
I like many of you, love to upgrade my phone. New apps/Roms every other day. But I am having trouble with this process and I was wondering if any of you have experienced the same.
I live in an area with poor Coverage and O2 gives my about 2 bars at home where as my girlfriends network (Orange) has zero coverage.
She often borrows my phone when at home (or when out and about, if hers is on charge / left in the car etc. etc.)
The problem I am having is that every time I add a new app or flash a Rom (recently Dutty V4, PocketCm and S2u2) I get nagged with, "what have you done that for?", "you've changed you phone and now I can't use it".
Any problem with my phone, no matter how little or unrelated to the software it is always my fault for filling the phone full of crap. "Why can I leave it alone?" she asks. - She just doesn't get it.
My current solution is http://www.hackaday.com/2007/10/23/cell-phone-taser/ . Does anyone else suffer from similar problems. If so can you please post you less violent suggestions here...
[/RANT]
P.S. I am not sexist, anyone who complains about what you do to your phone counts.
Oh man, my missus ALWAYS moans when I change even so much as a plugin on my today screen! Really annoys me!
Simple solution. Tell them (spouses and girlfriends) to buy there "own" phone. I kind of like mine all customized, once someone asks if they can make a quick call, they never ask again cause they cant figure out how to use it most of the time.
This phone is making me like...crazy!
and this is why:
I synct some playlists to the phone with windows media player 10, suddenly all playlists on my diamond are empty.
When i removed all the playlists on windows media player 10 to sync them again, it deleted all my songs!
now i got all my songs onto the device again, and wanted to alter 1 playlist, it took windows media player 6 minutes, to just alter, replace, 1 pooping playlist!\
Its not possible to remove a playlist created in the touchflo music player itself.
Not able to select it and then delete it.
Half of the icons in the games folder are ****ed up, we already have a thread with solutions(i tried all of them), but none of them worked.
And the performance, even with the tlr rom or whatever the name was, the diamond still goes slow!
And the battery depletes quickly, with auto attach off, and incoming beam off.
Cant receive a file with bluetooth, with incoming beam on or off, it keeps saying my pc is a new device and asks if i want to set a password, no matter if i set a password or not, it goes back to the menu, and still says my pc is a new device
And i used a mod of the diamond tweaks thread, to auto lock my diamond when the screen goed off.
Well, 1/5 times, it autounlocks itself when i turn the screen back on. not good...
And finally, the opera browser is sometimes not doing what i want. sometimes goes to a random place on the page, if i move and let the stylus go, it moves back to that random page, to fix this i need to quit, then restart opera.
This happens about 1/5 times i use opera.
Is this where i payed 481 euro's for...?
Any ideas how to fix this sh!t is welcome, i already did a hard reset to try getting rid of some problems.

what do you mean?
theres a whole list of bad things there.
btw: forgot to mention that the diamond stylus made some nasty scratches on the screen when wiping over the screen in opera to scroll page, or goto next photo in touchflo, ect.
Got a protector included for that.
Install a fresh rom, I don't have any of your problems.
I use bluetooth a lot:
Sending files (goes hell fast), don't want to use cable when using .cab files here
For my parrot
For use as a modem (have reached 120kbyte/second) when online with phone!
All flawless.
I have very very good results with HTC's own new rom update via e-club.
TLR nr. 2 was quite buggy at my phone.
GOod luck!

what have you got now may i ask?
Humbly returned to my previous P535.
I must admit that apart from Diamond, there is currently not many devices to choose from on the market... Was thinking about getting P750, but still unsure...
Xperia scares me, mainly because of the unusual screen resolution (dunno how all the apps will handle it) and that also is supposed to be made by HTC...
Maybe Diamond Pro will not suffer from these newborn diseases that my Diamond had - will see...
i think im going for the iphone 3g. will be expensive though...
the touch diamond really disappoints me...

Use the hardware buttons beneath the screen. You can navigate to the playlist you want to delete, and hold the 'enter' button to get the menu to get the 'right mouse button menu'.
Using your fingers it is impossible as it automatically selects the playlist if you press it. No menu will pop up.

What do you mean? It will be much cheaper than the Diamond.
I wonder if you're expecting to install applications on that phone, or do any customization...
Mwahahahahahha!!!!
Another Winer! XD
I'd give this post 5/5 for creativity, 6/5 for whining and -1 for usefullness ^^
you can almost FEEEL that you joined only after buying the phone, and I'd guess that it's your first WM one..
Anyway, regarding your problems..
If your phone really is that bad, it's probably broken (pre-production, grey, some dimwit dropped it in the shop or any other reason). In any case, return it by warranty, and get a new one..
Having so many people love this phone, and being able to fix the issues.. and only you and a handful of others run around whining.. Surely it's obvious that it's either a lack of hands.dll or a simple hardware failure..
I mean you should be smart enough to grasp it.... ermm.. right?
Cheers
P.S. Oh, and please don't be offended by this post.. It was mainly inspired by your post anyway, but it was written half-jokingly as I couldn't really answer seriously to that amount of QQ
@ 205_laCoste...
You're my hero.
Had a lot of trouble removing two playlists, but using the hardware buttons solved it right away....
Thank You!
I'm ready to throw my diamond out the window, for pretty much the same reasons. I paid way too much money to have so many problems. And I shouldn't have to flash a new rom. It should be good to go out of the box.
Before I'm also accused of being a whiner, there is a plethora of posts of people having the same problems....with no solutions. The bluetooth issue is a biggie. I tweak my phone to enhance it, but I shouldn't have to be a programmer to simply make it function properly. To suggest that is just arrogant.
There are things that I absolutely love about this phone, but simply as a phone it sucks.
most of the time it is not the fault of the phone but the person
using it.
a lot of people have come here after having a normal phone and
dont understand how to use this one.
treat it more like a computer than a phone.you dont have to be
a programer you just have to know how to read a thread and
follow the directions.
if you have a 1.37 rom you need to upgrade it to a 1.93.
1.37 is crap.okay it shouldnt have been but it was that why
it was upgraded to 1.93.
if you still dont get it then sell the phone.go buy a fruit
phone and get ripped off just like all the other sheep out there.
I have to stand up for nursie here. I've returned my diamond several months ago (yeah, it was driving me nuts) and am happily living with my P750... these offenses are absolutely not necessary and untrue as well as uncritically extolling the device - gee, it's just another PDA

I have to agree, to an extent.
It's generally accepted on here that the Diamond is badly configured out of the box, which is why new users are recommended to flash a new ROM. This is not a good thing, although it's great we have such a good community of chefs to help solve the problem.
What's less well accepted is that much of the HTC software on the Diamond is slow and awkward. I'm talking about TF3D and the HTC dialer in particular, get rid of them and you can make the Diamond a great little phone just like your P750.

I upgraded to 1.93. And I'm quite proficient at reading and researching. I'm also very proficient with current technology. I get it. What you don't get is that a consumer spending big bucks on this phone shouldn't have to resort to advanced tweaks (which I understand, BTW...you won't find me here asking newbie questions) in order to bring the phone up to basic performing standards.
Again.....yours is a fine example of ignorance masking itself as arrogance.
I dont have the phone here (its the gf's) but when i had the battery cover off it looked like there were 2 identical ports next to each other. one is labeled GPS on the back cover but the other doesnt open to the back cover. whats that one for? is that for an external wifi antenna? that'd be tits!
also, does anyone know if the current 3D driver plays nicely with the 6.1 update from AT&T? i dont see THAT rom mentioned on the class action website.
now some other questions...
any time frame for a 2D driver?
how long till theres a nice linux distro that'll run on it (i know the cpu is relatively weak compared to even lowend desktop and mobile cpu's that linux currently runs on)
and finally...how drop tolerant is it? my gf has butter-fingers sometimes and doesnt keep it in a case (imma kill her for that one). i'd like if it survived till she got tired of it or till its outdated enough that she moves on...because then i get to play with it ALL i want. i'd LOVE a nice portable internet device with gps capability for free, but will it ever be bootable without a sim card or a calling plan? i hope that oneday it will be!

The 2nd port is for the cell phone antanna I here that if you use it, it can sometimes get stuck and cause you to have to always use an external antanna to get service
Im an electrician and the 1st day I got my phone I was on top of a 5' latter and the case got hung on something and opend causeing the phone to drop about 7' to a tile floor, dident hurt mine (thank god) but I wouldent recommend droping it the screens are fragile

thanks for the fast reply and your drop sounds like it was pretty harsh. by zeus himself im going to get her a case. she works in cars all day and leaves it in her pocket or out on the workbench, the camera glass is already all scratched to hell from her pocket. i swear she makes problems for me to fix them...
speaking of, when i updated it to wm 6.1 i had made a backup using sprite, then i restored the backup after the wm6.1 update. well i did a dum dum and restored EVERYTHING the backup saved! so this caused all kinds of errors and problems and she was very pissed and instead of letting me fix it...she drove 30 minutes in the rain to the att store with me being pulled behind her by my ear (almost literally). some chubby guy played with the phone for about 45 minutes and then said 'i've never seen this before, its totally broke. the wm6.1 update you installed wasnt compatible' i told him it was the official one from the att website to which he said 'yea well its not for THIS device, you'll need to send it in for warranty'...yea OK. so NOW my gf is STEAMED! we go to get some chinese takeout. while waiting the 15 minutes i do a hard reset and only restore the contacts list. i hand her the phone and say 'the warranty dept is done with your phone ma'am'
she likes 6.1 much better and with some tweaks from kaiser tweak it runs pretty quick! the only thing that still pains me is the page tearing due to lack of 2d driver
If you value your productivity, beware of S2U2.
S2U2 works fine most of the time. My problems began when my screen stopped responding. All of a sudden, there was no way to get into the system. I had set up S2U2 to lock automatically, and just a few days before the screen stopped responding, coincidentally, S2U2 began to act up as well, locking the screen as the phone booted up.
Here I am, without touch screen capability, S2U2 booting up right at the start and no way to get into the system since I cannot use the slider.
Finally, I got in by using the Hard keys Windows+File Manager. I deleted the S2U2 directory so that the OS would not find the program next time it started. Next, I used "Remove Programs" to remove S2U2, but strangely, the progam refuses to be removed and continues to hang around like a bad egg, even though persona non grata.
I can't edit the registry either, and S2U2 tries to launch automatically each time I reboot the phone. What's more, when it cannot (since I renamed the folder), it eats up resources in the background and the phone literally comes to a crawl.
Is there any way to get this freebie off my phone? Removing the program doesn't do it. The phone still tries to launch S2U2 each time. PHM Regedit is no help without a touch-screen interface.
Any way to proceed? Thanks in advance.
Hard reset.
Did you install the latest S2U2 (v1.52)? I've never had any of the problems you listed before.
Nothing to do with version of S2U2
I don't believe it has anything to do with the version of S2U2 installed. The scenario I've described applies when the touchscreen stops responding. Since the only way to unlock S2U2 is via the touch slider (or at least I appear to have configured it that way), I'm effectively shut out of the phone except through a hard key such as Windows+File Manager (the other hard keys do not work).
Of course, much of my remaining touch-screen only software is by and large crippled, including PHM Regedit and MemMaid. Except for a notably well-designed Pocket Informant which provides excellent keyboard shortcuts and the native HTC programs which are also quite keyboard-responsive, most functionality in almost all the software I've installed is hosed.
Seems to me manufacturers should incorporate good keyboard shortcuts in all their touch-screen based software for just such eventualities as the touchscreen going dead, much like Pocket Informant has done.
S2U2 MUST incorporate this functionality, seeing as it is the gateway to the phone. Some kind of keyboard method to gain access must be provided, and not just the screen slider.
Why not posting that in the S2U2 development thread?
I have never had this problem on my device and I have been using S2U2 since version 1.22. I now have the latest which is v1.52. Never had this problem.
There is a setting in S2U2 which enables d-pad control as well, which I use as I hate touching the screen with my fingers.
There is also a neat commercial app called SafeMode and I believe that there is a similar freeware app. SK Tools would be your best bet to completely remove any app.
Finally, I do not believe that this is an S2U2 problem at all.
Not merely an S2U2 problem
I agree it is not just an S2U2 problem, but a problem for all software that uses a touchscreen. However, S2U2 is special since it locks the phone. The Slider Only setting is dangerous. By default, the D-PAD control should always be enabled and not allowed to be disabled.
It's always safer to have a spare key to a lock!

I have Memmaid. Problem is, once the touch screen stops responding, most Memmaid features cannot be accessed using the keyboard. Including the "Uninstall" function.
WM software should be designed keeping multiple and alternate user interface methods in mind as a backup. Take Pocket Informant. I continue to use most of its functionality to maintain my contacts and schedules even though some of its few touch-screen only features are now inaccesible.
why don't you hook up your tilt to the pc, start active sync, install MyMobiler (tool for remote controlling the pocket pc, its free).
next, rename the s2u2 folder so it can start on reboot, reboot your device... unlock it using mymobiler (it sends the mouse movements to your ppc so you a unresponsive touchscreen doens't matter) and uninstall it afterwards. that should work fine.

You had a hardware failure. You did not set the available options to use the dpad. Your fault.
This is a strongly worded thread, and is nonsense.
I agree , 100's 1000's maybe 10's of thousands of people use A__C's program with no problems whatsoever, I am one of them. If you did not set it up right, which you obviously didn't, that is your fault, not his.
He spends his time and resources making it better with new releases, not making it idiot proof,( a saying, no offense meant )
Starting a new thread , to trash a guy's program ( a program, as I said, that works great for 1000's of others ) gives you very little , if any , credibility at all.
Maybe you should go over to A-C's S2U2 thread in development and hacking, and try to work out the problems " you " are having with S2U2, with him in the appropriate thread, instead of starting a new thread to trash the work of a fellow member.
It is meant to be a strongly worded thread
Any software that has the potential to lock you out of your phone should be idiot proof.
I am a software engineer. If I can make the mistake of not setting the dpad control, non software engineers most certainly can. This thread is meant to warn novices before they face a similar situation they may be unable to work their way out of, and not to disparage the writer of the program, who I am sure puts in sincere efforts to build a robust utility.
My real mistake lies in believing that HTC phones are of a high quality. They are not. They are relatively flimsy compared to Nokia. I never had a Nokia screen die on me within a year of purchase as has the HTC Tilt's.
ooooo-kay then!

Wow... ok. My only suggestion here would be to go found your own forum - maybe forum.nokia-developers.com where you can rip apart and disassemble different OS revisions on differing nokia hardware platforms for the betterment of all Nokia users everywhere. Good luck!
oh, and the next time I lock my keys in the car I'll call CNN and trash the car manufacturer instead of owning up to the fact that I screwed up and will have to pay the piper and then move forward knowing that I've learned from my mistake and perfectly willing to let people know that locking your keys in the car sucks out loud - maybe with a post titled "Don't do this!" instead of "ALL CHEVY OWNERS BEWARE!!!"
Bad poster! No Biscuit!!

If you are a software engineer, then you should know that if you just delete a program's folder, then you have just guaranteed that the program will be very difficult to uninstall. Installers copy programs to storage, create registry entries, place shortcuts, and register uninstall information. By deleting the directory, the uninstaller gets lost.
Granted, the installer subsystem should probably be a bit more robust and be able to take certain scenarios into account. However, it's not S2U2's fault.
And I have experience with a large number of HTC devices. Hell, look at how many smart phones there are that are made by HTC and branded under different names. I've never had anything but a positive experience with their devices. That's including the fact that I spend a lot of time at this site which means I do evil things to my devices on a weekly basis, and still no problems.

poor choice of words indeed i to am a LONG time user of S2U2 and have never had problems, and i've NEVER had problems with HTC products (other than the price) and as far as nokia goes they are good phones if you want something that has LIMITED POTENTIAL/UPGRADABILITY!!!
Touchy, touchy
Sheesh! You guys sure are a a touchy bunch. Here is a well-meaning individual trying to warn you all of a hazardous situation that could cost you hours of productivity, and what do I get? Calls to leave!! How juvenile. I'm glad at least one of you are concerned about productivity and the loss of time such unnecessary lockout entails.
Just out of curiosity, how many of you have D-Pad control enabled on S2U2? Be honest now. And the analogy with losing car keys that someone made earlier just doesn't cut it, buddy. As we all know, car owners are supplied two sets of keys when they purchase a car.
Sure, S2U2 provides the second set (D-pad control). All I'm saying is that it should be enabled by default, with a strong warning to anyone who tries to disable it.
And don't tell me I didn't warn you all if you're locked out of your phone due to screen failure.
I'm just not the 'buy and throw away' type of guy, so I'm not going anywhere. I still have a life to squeeze out of this contraption so I can justify its high cost. And oh, I intend to remain a WM novice! I have no time for amateurish OSes.
I'll try this suggestion

Thanks, I'll try this out. In my case, the time factor is a constraint on how much time I can spend in fixing the phone, but I have no choice, so I'll give it a shot.
Thanks again!!
My phone decided to not switch on any longer. The only sign of life is the notification led blinking red when is in charge, no way to access it with any program if I attach it to the PC with a USB cable.
I should send it to the Sony repairing center (still under warranty) but the phone is rooted; given its situation do they discover it ?
I had that exact problem. Turned out that the battery suddenly died after about a year.
In my experience they never care what stuff is currently on the phone. Instead they'll just flash it with the latest stock rom after fixing the hardware.
Thanks a lot for sharing your experience. I really hope will be the same in my case as well. I'll post here what will happen.
PS I'm wondering about the batteries' quality: my daughter with a z1c had your same problem (a little more than one year life), you, may be myself... I know the sample is not significant but...
Same thing happened with mine & i was on a custom rom with unlocked bootloader...they probably had no way to get into the phone just like i couldn't so they probably couldn't tell it was modified...it was just a brick at that point...i noticed certain batches were affected by this sudden death and after pulling my tag out i noticed my phone was part of that batch that was poorly assembled in china...so brand new phone for me!

Thanks for the suggestion but I tried any possible way to resurrect my phone, including what you're saying, without any result. I hope to confirm soon what all the contributors to this thread are saying...
Just received the device from assistance; everything went well: the motherboard was replaced.
The only drawback is that the lost the tiny grill that cover the mic at the bottom of the phone !!!!!
