First of all, having an SDK does not guarantee a succesfull port, if you don't believe me read this:
http://www.androidpolice.com/2011/1...eam-cm9-will-arrive-when-the-ics-source-does/
Now, after a little reading please STOP ASKING ABOUT ICS!!!
If (and that's a BIG if) ICS can be ported to our minis it will be ported in due time, so please don't ask about it at least until there are official sources
Here are some screen shots of Ice Cream Sandwich...
http://yagyagaire.blogspot.com/2011/10/snapshots-of-ice-cream-sandwich.html
They are simply awesome... Anyone seeing it will surely demand Ice Cream Sandwich on their smart phone...
Also, here is an overview of the features of ICS and Galaxy Nexus smartphone:
http://yagyagaire.blogspot.com/2011/10/introducing-galaxy-nexus-smartphone-and.html
I know ICS is awesome, I want it as well, all I'm saying is that right now is simply too early to be asking for it on any device (especially a low activity device such as the mini).
Just look at what them Cyano said, porting an SDK is almost pointless!!
Yea..anyway the main feature of ics is face recognition and mini does not have a front cam.
I Eagerly Waiting for CM9!! only!!
Is There a Rom for us sprint gt people running 3.0. Seems like 2.3 is becoming obsolete for all the good things. Please reply if you know anything about this.thank you much

From what I have seem we won't be getting that anytime soon. It took such a long time just to get the stable roms we have now.

there is an unofficial port of 4.0 (ice cream sandwich) being worked on HARD by volunteers in the SGT dev forum. it's booting but it's very early alpha and most things (wifi, gsm, etc.) don't work... if you give them a little time to polish it, from the progress made, i'd expect a stable version ready for beta testing inside of a month.
as for official upgrade, samsung hasn't said that it's NOT comming, however, I wouldn't hold my breath as these devices are now over a year old and the tablet / phone market goes so fast that I don't think that they are going to be releasing any updates to devices as old as the sgt. luckily, it's more or less a well documented platform with lots of great community support, and the dev guys on xda are pretty amazing hackers so there are currently quite a few aftermarket unofficial gingerbread-based roms which add many additional features, additional stability, and i find a few of them (overcome, cyanogen) actually operate far better than the samsung official roms. I would expect that the normal community development teams will be working to bring us fully working ice cream sandwich roms in the near future, so sit tight, it's coming
The fact that you're running 3.0 at all is probably about as far as ROM development is going to go on that front. As for an official upgrade, Samsung have said there will *not* be an ICS upgrade for the original Galaxy Tab. Every other member of the Tab line will get the upgrade but the original was deemed too old and too underpowered for official upgrades.
Hello fellow human beings,
Came here to see how you guys are doing!
So, for a while I had this dream about making custom EMUI, but 8 was already done and I never really liked it. Though, with the arrival of 9.1, I started working towards that dream.. It didn't quite go well and I quit
Well, I'm back to see what do you guys real want. Comment down there what features you'd want on a custom EMUI 9.1 for our Figo.
Hope to get your feedback soon
With all respect,
Gelber.

I'm a software engineer that started to develop android apps recently. Though my first experience with android development was... hard to remember the date, I've been a student and we all had android 3.x. A lot of new stuff has happened to android since then
Also going to try to update os version on my Galaxy S9, probably some LineageOS is my only option. So it feels like I should be here and I am happy to be here!

Welcome to XDA!
My first account was made in 2011 when I was 12. I had a Galaxy Y S5630 (totoro) armv6 powered mini vibrator. I wanted to upgrade to ICS from gingerbread and XDA was my Bible back then. (I couldn't do it because CyanogenMod didn't have Broadcom drivers back then sadly but I learnt to install custom firmwares)
Now I'm an AI engineer in an MNC at 23. I miss modding and the excitement it gave me back then.
Now, all my work emails, banking apps, important government documents and messages are on my phone so modding feels like a task!
Also, Android development hasn't been revolutionary in terms of functionality. It's now come to performance and smoother hardware interfacing. It has saturated.
I miss the Steve Kondik, Koushik Datta and KANGing days listening to Linkin Park, Akon and Eminem while flashing CWM before every ROM installation on my Windows 7 powered core duo 2 machine playing GTA San Andreas waiting for the latest CyanogenMod Nightly to download.
I wish I could go back to those days of being excited to Google up the latest UI changes in the next version of Android and then waiting for Nexus' announcement.
Surely, now that you have rejoined XDA, your assistance to young users will be as exciting to them as your experience of years past.

I am the same age, I got into android modding in 2015 trying to install android kitkat on my samsung galaxy star pro and ended up flashing a JB ROM themed as kitkat called "kitkit" lmao was very fun. Themeing was my entry point into android.
Fast forward now, I work in android R&D in an tech startup and I'm having real fun but it can get lonely at times because I'm a individual contributor.
Let's see where the future takes us.
As for android, it has saturated and it's basically hardware revisions and better software.
I do remember using CWM recovery, Philz Touch Recovery, Carliv Image Kitchen for MTK etc but TWRP became the defacto go-to recovery, thanks DeesTroy!
CM became Lineage and so on.
I still have an Samsung Galaxy S5 with me which I mod all the time, Galaxy M32 4G as my main driver and it has increasing become less fun to mod android due to safetynet and more restrictions. Android is becoming iOS and iOS is becoming android, weird but ok.
Welcome back to XDA!
