Hi guys
I was planning to buy the Samsung Galaxy S Advance as my second phone, it has an dual core 1 Ghz ST-Ericsson U8500 CPU with a Mali 400 GPU from ARM with 768 MB of RAM. and other similar features like the S plus.
According to the stericsson website the U8500 chip supports 1080p video recording but on the gsmarena specs it shows 720p with 30fps (maybe someday could unlock the full hd feature )
The main reason i posted this thread was to ask about it's GPU performance, as it includes the same GPU from the S2.
Will the performance be the same as the S2 ? or somewhere around that ?
And what about the U8500's performance ?

Are Dual cores really fast compared to a single core
I own a S plus which has a Qualcomm msm8255t 1.4 Ghz single core cpu, which i find quite fast, it runs CM9 very smoothly.
I'm also considering this phone, and I hope you don't mind I through in another question: is it true what they say that with this being "an upgrade to the Galaxy S" and only available on limited markets we don't have to expect much development and selection in custom ROMs?
I am considering either this, or a Motorola Atrix 4G and I really don't know what to choose...
I actually like it's design, it's somewhat like a mix between the S2 and Galaxy Nexus, more like a baby Nexus.
anyways this phone has great potential as it beats the galaxy R (see benchmarks at gsmarena)
I don't think that it'll get much attention by devs. It's not that the phone's slow, but there won't be as many users as other Galaxy S phones have. You can see what happened to S Plus: it's faster than the Galaxy S, but not even supported by Cyanogenmod, with a very small community. The simple reason why the Galaxy S has more users now than the advanced one will ever have, is that the S once was the best phone out and many people bought it. The Plus and Advanced aren't. They get 1/2 cores when already 2/4 are standard.
LOL i just bought the device it's real smooth was playing some hd games and the performance is really good, the mali 400mp is doing its job just fine and multitasking is pretty good
I don't know about Germany but this device seems to be getting quite popular here in India

A friend got it... but he's Android noob .
I just looked on amazon - for 40€ more you get the S2. IMO it would be the better choice. More RAM, faster, awesome cam. Why didn't you buy it?
I will rather buy S2. I learn my lesson with i9001.
In Croatia "S Advance" is on T-Mobile more than 200£ cheaper SII, therefor I don't see a reason not to buy it, except that it probably will not get much attention from developers.

there's quite a big difference in the price between the advance and the S2, so i chose the Advance over the S2. (and also i liked its nexus like curve, the curved display looks really cool)
Anyways the phone is performing well, for the first time i could play GTA 3 (v1.3) with full graphics without any lags.
and now have started enjoying gaming.
I don't regret buying this phone, maybe when samsung releases ics for the phone it will perform similar to the S2

Nah, if you get past 300€, 40€ aren't a big difference. With the S2, you can replace your cam with the phone, with Advanced you can't take usefull pics. And just look at the awesome dev support. I think Sammy only released the Advanced because of the big critic, that none of the Galaxy S devices gets ICS. Now they can say 'upgrade to advanced' and make money with their bad support. But in the end it's your decision .
I know S2 is a better device but i still liked the look of the Advance, and was quite curious about the new NovaThor chipset
and btw there ain't no news of ICS for the galaxy Advance (I'm starting to worry now )
The phone seems to have some very nice motion controls (like when you double tap on the top of the phone it activates voice search, and the tilt to zoom function)
I'm confused between s advanced and Xperia arc S (both of them at same price ) but i'm scared to get s advance duo to lake of support/deve so what do u think about that nail16??
Xperia Arc S has the same configuration as the galaxy s plus so it's a single core device and has a adreno 205 (the gpu kinda sucks)
I say go for the Advance don't worry about the dev support, it seems to be a powerful phone it will soon be recognized by the devs

Are any in depth Galaxy Note 4 benchmarks. We all saw early benchmarks on GSM Arena, but I haven't found any Antutu, Geekbench, or Quadrant scores, to name a few. I know that benchmarks aren't everything, but as a Note 3 owner I'm excited to see performance enhancements brought to us by the Snapdragon 805 with the Adreno 420.

Better to wait for the actual reviews, as benchmarks and performance can still be tweaked for the final software version.
Knowing Samsung the first firmware might be a bit laggy. I remember worrying about Note 10.1 because in reviews it was slow as hell - first update fixed all that.
That makes sense. The Korean model will be released relatively soon, so I expect some more info. I'm almost certain that the software the showroom floor was fully optimized.
As for the Note 10.1 2014, I still have mine and can confirm that it has gotten better with every update. I'm running Hyperdrive, and it runs as smooth as butter. The benchmarks reflect that as well, with numbers only slightly lower than my Note 3.

judging from GSArena, the Exynos version wins the battery war.. yet, I need some real-life experiences to cement this.
I am using Lenovo P2, the battery is insane here. But I am missing a lot of a good phone

This is a great question and hopefully some of the details I provide can assist you.
Ultimately, in my opinion, battery life will be determined by your usage patterns and the applications installed.

Did they made any changes to Exynos 9810 SoC since S9+ was released?

It was Anadtech who first thoroughly lab-tested and rooted out the performance/heat management/battery endurance differences bet^n the Exynos 9810 & Snapdragon 845 in the Galaxy S9.
Hence, I contacted Andrei(one who did the testing and wrote that article) and he informed that Anandtech won't be reviewing the Exynos/SD Note 9 for now, but if there's any change in the behaviour of the SoC, it'll be visible in the kernel sources and he will check that without requiring the Note 9.
Andrei is famous in these forums. Thank you for your information. I wanted to email him as well but did it for the rest of us. Lets hope they made some improvements. Else even 4000 mah wont be enough. I have pre-ordered Note 9 exynos version and sold off my s9+ back to the Samsung store guys.

I havent had the battery issues on my exynos s9 plus that others have but i think for the note 9 im going to give the N9600 snapdragon a try. Samsung knows there is an issue here and have had ample time to correct on the s9 and damn sure on the Note 9 and to do nothing is just pure laziness

Better to read the article where its explained in detail but the end result has been terrible battery life for many.

Samsung quietly fix what they can. But at times they're not very good at fixing when they announce and "pretend" to not have an issue officially. Including sheer laziness, what if what they have achieved in the Exynos 9810 is the "optimum one" in the heat-performance-endurance ratio ? When they didn't do it in this S9's I felt they were saving something for the next big thing - Note 9 Exynos.

Will be happy to know how you would feel getting one snapdragon. I thought of doing the same, but it has network comptibility issues here, so didn't.
This Antutu Stress test prove that Samsung did some "tweaks" for Exynos: more throttle, lower freqs most of time to keep it cooler, less batt drain
We have reached that time where the price of the Note 9 has dropped enough that it has become a really attractive option for those of us looking for a feature packed flagship phone at well below the $1000 mark.
I have decided that I am going to buy the Note 9, it's just a case of deciding which variant. I live in Southern Africa where we don't have support for Samsung Pay and we are not ready for the latest LTE technologies, so as long as I have working LTE, I am not concerned too much about these features.
With that said, it's still desireable to me to have the fastest option I can get within my budget because I want a fast and fluid user experience.
Apparently the Android Pie update has improved the performance of the Eynos variants of the Note 9 by a considerable amount.
So my question is, as it stands today, how does the Snapdragon variant compare to the Exynos variant in terms of performance?
Aside from performance and rooting, what other considerations or differences are there when deciding between the Hong Kong N9600 and the global N960FD variants? (Are there any major drawbacks or issues to consider when selecting one variant over the other? Build quality, storage performance/ Inferior components in one model vs the other etc..) (I read that snapdragon has touch latency. How bad is it and are there any other issues on either variant)
One unfortunate consideration is that my favorite color, the Metallic Copper, is unfortunately not available in N9600 variant. I have seen that the new white color is available in N9600 but I actually prefer the Note 9 in darker colors.
Note. I have confirmed that both variants support the bands for local mobile operators

I have searched for the difference on YouTube and google but the results are related to tests that were done before the Android Pie upgrade, as mentioned in my post above. There are some comments on those YouTube videos and on the Anandtech website where people are claiming that the performance of the Exynos variant has improved significantly, however there don't seem to be any official tests to confirm this. With so many members in this forum having both variants, I am hoping that we can get some answers here.
In the Anandtech tests, the Snapdragon variant was quite considerably faster in nearly every test. Certainly nowhere near evenly matched.
So, how close is the performance of the Exynos variant now after the Pie update with One UI?

If you don't mind (Since this will be quite a time consuming process), yes please, I think it would be really interesting to compare the Pie (On One UI) results with those in the Anandtech tests.

Sounds good to me, I'll be flashing the Oreo and Pie versions of Devbase as it's as stable as it gets.
for what its worth here are some geekbench results done on a korean n960n exynos ( its not a 9600 or 960f as stated in recent discussions but i can vouch for the build quality, have not seen one screen or other defect issue reported from an other n960n user. cant say the same for 960f or 960u...forums are full of them)

Out of interest, where was the n960n manufactured? It seems like the n960n is considerably less popular on XDA (a quick search in the Q&A area shows a total of about 5 threads referencing the device, out of the ~770 total threads), which is probably why we see less issues reported.
I know that 960f is for Australia and Europe.

I've just finished testing Oreo vs Pie. Unlike Anandtech, I'm not using obfuscated applications IDs to avoid benchmark detection, I'm just installing direct from the Play store, so I don't know if that will have any effect on the scores. I'm also letting the device cool between tests and running on battery power (In the 50 - 70% range) as that seems like the best way to keep things consistent.

Those are some interesting results across the board. It is clear that Samsung has done a fair amount of optimization although the SD845 is still faster in most of the benchmarks according to Anandtech results.

I think you just may have convinced me to go for the Exynos variant in the color that I want, knowing that the performance has improved to within reach of the SD845. :good:
I wasn't really trying to convince you one way or another but to be honest, I'd say the colour of the device is possibly more important, you're looking at the device every time you use it but the performance difference between the two SOC's in real life is pretty negligible.
Exynos version has a stock call recording feature. Snapdragon not. This thing it a most important for me.

yeah i know but of those threads, i would of thought that at lest once would an issue come up. i also had a note 8, same deal, n950n pristine device. no one ever complained. but again as you point out, might be simple probability
one thing to consider, if the devices were not targeted to as a big population as the F's or U's( no pun intended lol ) then quality control might have been better because they simply produced less and... Maybe they produce nicer phones for themselves...lol you don't chit where you eat as they say.

I wouldn't bother with any of that. Get a note 9 from whomever offers the best warranty would be my first choice of criteria.

I can't make a decision
I wanted the snapdragons version it's not available any where i live
And there is no option expect the (one plus 6t) and it is near the same price
I think every advantage go to Samsung
The display the camera The mic the vibration motor
Just the processor is the advantage to the OnePlus and the 2gig of ram
But again it's exynos and i read allot of thing about the performance and the battery drain withe allot of benchmark and test

If your budget allows you to spend more, you can get a Note 9 with a Snapdragon processor from eBay (imported from Hong Kong) for around U$700 - 800 including shipping. If you are fixed at $660 then there really isn't anything to consider, just go for the option (Eynos Note 9) that you have available to you now.
I think its clear from the results posted earlier in this thread that the performance of the Exynos variants has improved with Android Pie and isn't trailing too far behind the Snapdragon variants anymore. Battery life has also improved a lot since the launch of the S9 series with the same SoC.
As stated in earlier posts, the real-world performance difference is very small. The Eynos 9810 is still very much a flagship SoC and is more than capable of delivering top performance in the games that are currently available on Android. Coming from a Note 4, your new Exynos based Note will feel buttery smooth while delivering plenty of value in other areas as well. (Battery life, screen quality, features like new Bluetooth S-pen and wireless charging, camera image quality etc..)

I can't order from eBay it's out of my budget
I think the performance gab between the two has decreased now after pie update
And i care allot for developer community in the long way
That's what makes my note 4 useable until now
One thing i can't keep out of my head
There's a phone half the price of mine with faster SOC and better game play (pocophone)
But as a package
I will go with note 9 exynos and try to forget :victory:
