Okay so since were all friends here and were all bffls and best friends I have a question... can I barrow some lunch money? Naaaa kiddin I'mma ask people for cash tomorrow but fo real fo real?
The G1 is really... really... really boring.
I mean less be on is. How manyof you are still amazed by your G1 as you used to be? It's like milk, that expires today... it's still good for 5 days but your like ehh... what the hey... ya knew?
That's how I feel with my G1! It's nice and all but I know theres better... So do you guys suggest anything to make me love my phone again... maybe more then I love myself? I mean idk Rachel (however you spell it idk any grls named Rachel) UI looks pretty and all so I mean that might look good but Androids just getting old. Do you think it's not meant to be or something?
I mean maybe me and my G1 aren't meant to be...? So yeah. Post a reply thinking what I should do... because were friends and don't forget...
FRIENDS DON'T YELL AT FRIENDS FOR MAKING STUPID POSTS!
So as a friend, pwease hewp mees. Pwease? =)
And also, put a smilie at the end of your post... it makes me feel special and feel like were friends... I like having friends =)
Sorry if the post is long but dude I'm so mad right now man! No signal just sucks! Anyway, THANKS BFFSS!
xD
Is yours rooted? I find tethering is something I use a lot, and a love the fact my G1 has access to 3g all the time (atleast in my area). Hooking it up with my laptop has made my day to day tasks much easier what with school and work and whatnot. Also if it's rooted you get some other cool stuff, if I find playing with my phone isn't giving me as many thrills as it used to I switch themes every now and then..
Youtube is always fun to mess around with, when I'm bored ill watch videos n' junk. Browse the market to see if any new/cool apps or games have come out..
The only thing I would wish to improve with this device is the browser. It's not quit up there with the iPhone in my opinion.. but the OS is still pretty kickass in general.
Im just now messing around with the SDK.. just did the hello world tutorial not too long ago and messing around with the 2.0 emulation (which when released or cooked it's gonna rock) Maybe if you're bored with it, download the SDK, take some time to learn it and develop something (Easier said than done).. but why not increase your knowledge while exploring the device, friend?
Sorry if this post seems weird.. First time browsing XDA on a high dosage of lorazepam. Everything seems so nice

Ughhh man. Tethering is suchh old news I been ROOTed! I hate the Mobile YouTube eww bro. I've done the App Market thing... gets boring. The Browser is okay. Hmm, send me the links for Developing and SDK's pwease bff? And friends don't judge friends by their Posts and how new they are. When I started at my new school nobody judged me by the clothes I wore (although I swagg out for 1st Impressions!) What's umm Lurah-Zee-Pamela? And yes, we try to be nice and friendly here. Thanks for the smilie! =]
Heres a thought: get into development. I got into development for the G1 8 or 9 months ago, and I've never had any point at which I thought "well, this phone is boring now".

I mean, my Reading/Language Arts/Social Studies teacher says we should all work on increasing our knowledge because our brain is something we don't want to waste... really nice lady!
I'm thinking of getting into development but like in a way my brain is tired so so much I dont know how I'm going to store all of this information. Can you provide me some links for how to make Themes, ROMs, etc...? And Kusotare, where is your smilie because I can't seem to find it friend! =/
Ok now I have Android SDK downloaded and it's doing something. Please please PLEASE somebody send me some links so I know how to develope ROMs and Themes. I know it'll be a little hard but I am willing to put in a lot of hard work to work on ROMs like Rachel UI and Eclair so that I can get things people want a lot. I honetly want an Eclair ROM more then anything right now. I have a friend whos dad works for MOTOROLA, he's going to pass me a MotoCliq tomorrow and a MotoDroid probably Monday or Tuesday next week. I can't wait for those two, I'm going to try to help developing for that and I'll still hook you guys up with some G1 ROMs and all. Anyway, please somebody be a good friend as I know all of you are and provide me some links, my E-Mail is [email protected] so you can send then there, thanks! =)
Hello, my name is Benjamin, currently a undergraduate student that has gotten very interested in electronics the past couple of months. 21 years of age.
I don't have excessive amounts of money to buy nice toys with or to experiment with, but I was hoping that I could gather wealth and buy an unlocked smart-phone, cheap.
I don't have extensive experience, but I really want to learn from this awesome community. I have been skimming threads and reading, researching and, finally I decided to stop lurking and come out in the clear and introduce myself. I admire the hard work of the seniors, veterans, juniors, semi-pros and other awesome people that think around problems on this board. Thank you already.
I have started hobby-programing python and perl, I have an unreasonable fear of Java, but will hopefully be able to start playing with it if I eventually do get that smart-phone.
So my problem right now is that I don't have a fun little device to play with, could anyone recommend a device that is:
Not crazy expensive
Will be able to connect to Wi-fi network
Will be able to run GV to be used as a VOIP phone
Unlocked and ready to be changed
Easy to access and play around with
Simply, I don't necessarily need it to keep a constant connectivity, just a small computer to toy with.
There are many approaches to the smart-phone idea right now, and your board has been very helpful, I just need a last nudge.
Sorry for the lengthy post, just wanted to introduce myself, and not be lurking anymore. I will try to keep annoying questions to a minimum.
Thanks for taking the time to read this.

I am trying to figure out why there is suddenly a growing trend of new people on this site and XDA looking for help on the Dell Streak 7.
I am glad for the new flow of people, gives me a reason to keep working, helping others but its frustrating to me to have to explain things several times in the same thread about how to execute commands or what features are working or not work. Answering questions I already answered (4-10 times in a single thread) takes away time I can focus on my actual work.
I am really trying to be patient and help people out, after all they really don't know any better, but the modification community is for those who have some basic grasps on Android system, Linux, and how to execute commands. If you really don't know what somethings are, its sometimes best for you to not mess with it. I'm not trying to sound condescending but when I tell you to fastboot flash something, take the time to go look it up on Google. It has a wealth of knowledge.
75% of my Android ROM development is done through Google. Seriously. I look at others works (from Google searches), examine it, see how it would apply to our devices, and adapt any changes if I have to. The other 25% of my work is intuition, logic, and knowledge.
I'm going to try to remind everyone to be patient and understanding but if I get frustrated with you, please don't hold it against me. I have a lot on my plate right now in my life and I'm handling two projects, my family, school work and two jobs.
Oh yeah, stop asking me if a feature is working or not, or ETA's. Seriously.....I will punch you.
Oh, and I plan on making a new video series, hopefully with better image quality and clearer instructions on how to flash ROM's via fastboot, CWR/TWRP, and NVFlash.

Giveen, what if I create a post with links to a lot of the information and give you a break? All I need is permission from people to post links to the needed information and then have it stickied.

you're welcome to start using my sig' to continue getting this point across if need be... it gets a bit frustrating when ROM development takes up an immense quantity of your free time, I currently only get about an hour a day to do anything I didnt fit into my routine and even then that is pushing it when you sometimes have to stay back at work due to a server crashing or something else of the likes, in which case it starts to take away sleep then it leads to deprivation of sleep (which doesnt help when you have a nagging family member as well as a nagging target audience).
so we ask the public please be lenient with devs, we have a lot of sh!t to put up with already without you putting more expectations and pressure on us, if you insult us that just makes us want to walk away from public releases (this has been the case with a few devs I know).
also further notes for the n00bs, watch the f***ing n00b video, read the forum rules and FFS use the search feature!

It may be because the streak 7 has passed below the price point that means some of the larger bulk-buy discount internet outfits are pushing them out.
I bought one from one of these for my daughter on the grounds it was a good brand for a decent screen size under a hundred bucks.
Please bear with the noobs; yes, it's frustrating when people ask the same question over and over; but the reality is that that happens ALL over xda. In other threads, the devs typically leave answering the repetitive crap to the hacks (I.e., people - like me - who can read but either can't or don't develop) to avoid distraction and frustration.
Please also rest assured that, no matter how frustrated you are with them(/us), they(/we) are enormously thankful for the time, effort, and skill you donate, as they(/we) are keenly aware that they(/we) will benefit from your hard work.

It is good to see others getting the the streak7. But there are a few threads that have the info people need. Noobs don't wanna read or use the the search at all. And they wanna jump into the dev threads. I know some things can be confusing but read ,search and even look at YouTube. But please read before posting

I'm not disagreeing with your observations, and I agree that people who ask without searching are frustrating and distracting; but really it comes down to a personal approach whether you accept that noobs will usually ask first or expect them to search.
We've all been there before, sometimes multiple times, but we tend to forget that being a noob can be pretty overwhelming; there's all this info, but much of it is confusing and full of jargon. Device-specific jargon, even. Yes, noobs must be willing to learn; but they need people to teach them, not scare them off.
Leaving a post for someone who has the energy to answer is much less frustrating (all round) than firing back "SEARCH FOR THE LOVE OF PETE, NOOB".

I'm 40 year's old and was incarcerated throughout my 20s and 30s I came home to a different world one that I enjoy most at home on my laptop learning. I enjoy learning commands and exploits for any and all systems especially the ones pertaining to my devices. I currently am working on rooting a wingtech revvl+ and a few other devices. Any one who has successfully installed a custom recovery on the tmrvl4g_0.05.27 or any variant of tmrvl4g 5g let me know. Thanks

Welcome, good sir, and glad to have you back in the world... <smile>
I got tired of Boost's nonsense (being forced to upgrade to a 5g phone, allegedly free, but actually about 250 bucks in all), and went to T-Mobile. Since they were cheap and I needed 3 of them, and, with all the upgrades to 5g, likely needed to offload a few traincars of them, we got 3 TMRVL4G devices...
Since it's Wingtech, which really isn't one of the biggies, but, as I've been on this venue all these years, through many devices, I'm always willing to be a guinea pig... My coding chops are decades old, and really revolve around Delphi, CodeTyphon, and old XBase stuff... Never learned C++ nor really much .java, so coding for Android is, while interesting to me, and I can generally read and follow others' work, just the syntax and symbology are difficult for me. (What can I say? Turned 65 this past Valentine's Day, and it shows at the damnedest times... <grin>)
But, should you happen across any recent information regarding any work on rooting this device, or, at the least, enabling the app-to-SD functionality which is available for every other device I've ever owned, I'd be most grateful. Add to that, I've got plenty of legit Play Store-approved apps for which I've paid real money, but can't use as they each require root access... It's not that I disapprove the companies' making admin access difficult (hey, I've boneheaded enough over the years, but give me a way to get back to default and I'm good... I also have a modest collection of paperweights where, "Sorry, dude... you're hosed..." LOL)...
It's that they each try to out-do each other in how impossible they can make it for even experienced users, but without access to their tech-support frame, to actually use these things as they're capable... I mean, ****... a quad-core device, fast as hell, and storage out the wazoo for most users. Not me, mind you, as, were some functionality enabled, this beastie would be a quick laptop replacement, with the Bluetooth keyboard which also seems to not talk to it.
Again, good sir, welcome, and welcome back!

... and yes... I worked for a few months for Sprint on their helpdesk in El Paso... there is a way... there is always a way.
I wish I could list even one awesome coding skill to contribute to XDA, but the truth is the other way around - it's the developers here who've been contributing to me for the past several years as I've struggled to navigate the ever-winding road of Android. I came here completely green, not a single line of code to call mine, and had to look up every other word in the posts, only to have to look up the words in the definitions as well.
I remember that time very well, as I was armed with the new Nexus 5 Hammerhead running KitKat 4.4.4, and all I wanted to do more than anything in the world was this really cool thing I'd heard about called 'rooting.' Didn't even know what I could do with a rooted phone back then, especially since it was my very first smartphone. And somehow, some way, with the help of the posts here on XDA, I managed to gain root privileges on my first try. Bragging rights? Nah. Not until it's revealed that it only took me 3 weeks of delving my phone's deepest corners before finally discovering this amazing secret where anything I deleted instead got doubled, which allowed me to finally achieve the world record of filling up a phone's memory with useless data faster than The Competitor could get hit with planned obsolescence lawsuits. Now that's fast, indeed.
On a more serious note, there has actually been one question I've seen posted recently that I realized I could have easily helped someone with, had I an account here. Thus, what you see before you. Of course it will probably turn out to be the only question I'll come across here that I can answer, but someone needs me the way I've needed you and if I could help even just one person, then here I go...

Nice intro!
welcome to XDA
Thank you, I mean it. (Bashfully looks down, hands clasped behind back, toeing ground...) This is the first time in my life I've ever signed up to be a part of something bigger than myself, there isn't a lot out there that can really keep drawing me back, time and time again. Now if I can just find that Thanks button I just read about, I won't have to take up so much space on the servers each time I want to show my gratitude.....

You actually made me laugh out loud with that one. Thanks I needed that! I'll certainly consider hitting you up the next time I need help, which is, on average, every 6.2 seconds. Now if that lady does ever figure out how to hdmi a pdf, she would be a Jedi Master, indeed, and we may both end up learning at her feet. Thanks again and likewise if you want to holler and maybe learn how to brick any device at all, I'm available. Brick master extraordinaire, that's me.

My apologies for the late reply, and thank you for your offer, I'll probably be messaging you on my next project. The phone I'm using right now is an unrooted Motorola One 5G Ace, and it's lightning fast. But that's about where any good review ends for me. I should root it, but my screen is so cracked I may as well get a new phone.
However! I am the proud owner of a fully rooted Motorola e4 Plus, as well as a fully rooted Samsung Galaxy S5 - the AT&T kind, which is the only version that's untouchable by Developer Geohot's brainchild, Towel Root. (By the way, excellent work on that, Geohot. You are a legend among my circle.)
So, in short, I've got 2 rooted phones, neither with service, but still fun to poke around the older OS versions and see what's under the hood.
I'm tempted to grab a Galaxy S22 Ultra, but only if it's rootable, Samsung being synonymous with bloatware/trashware/dataware.
What kind of phone are you yourself working with?
