Hi! My Galaxy Note 9 has recently started having a really strange issue.
When I press the power button and unlock it using my fingerprint, I can clearly hear the phone unlocking, but my screen stays perfectly black. When I press the power button again, it makes the stock "locking" noise that it makes. The little click.
If I don't relock the phone, it still can be used! I can actually click icons, accidentally send texts, etc. but no image....
Here's where it gets weird.
If I tap the screen two to four times and THEN press the power button, my screen turns on! I'm then able to use the phone like normal. Crazy!
However, for whatever reason I cannot use this trick when I get a phone call. So I just have to call people back.
Has anyone experienced this before? Do you have any tips to fix the problem? I have already tried restarting the phone, and powering it off and turning it back on. My last resort is a factory reset.
Welcome to XDA
May be a rootkit. If your running anything lower than Android 9, a factory reset may not purge it ie X-helper. The longer you wait the more damage malware can potentially do.
Delete Google account from phone and...
Nuke it, then reset your Google account password after factory reset.
If it persists, reflash rom. If it still persists it's hardware.
Two days ago I did click a link in a spam ad. And then yesterday the problem kicked in, so your suggestion has some pretty strong credibility in my mind. I'll take the actions you recommend. Thank you!
Maybe go with Brave browser in the future and add this modification to the new load. It globally blocks ads and some of the worst sites as well.

(not my phone but the right screen), with the volume drop down saying In call.
the only way i can seem to get it to boot is a hard reset, and then I lose everything in my phone.
Any suggestions as to how I can get it to boot properly without a hards reset would be appreciated.

That sucks, a Battery Pull or Soft Reset doesn't work?
Nope, just tried both.
It's an XDA Stellar. I just hope it's fixed in 6.1 when the release it (hopefully) next month.

So, you are using the default ROM? After a hard-reset, use your phone with no 3rd party software and see if your phone does the same thing.
Yep Default ROM. I'll try it and see if it happens again, with no software installed

You might want to check in the Hermes thread because the phone in the picture is a Hermes not a Kaiser.

He mentioned in his original post that it is not his phone but that's the screen his phone gets stuck on.
My D4 bit the dust tonight after having it for a year and a half. I think moisture from leaving it in the bathroom during my showers killed it. The phone gets power, but when I turn it on I get white/black static. It won't even show the Motorola boot animation. I am wondering if there is a way to get my pictures off the internal memory card? When I plug my phone up to the computer I get the little sound that my phone is connected, but it doesn't show up. I have tried a reset and booting into safe mode, but the screen just shows black/white static.

Hi, it sounds like you got the same problem as described in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2552978
I wonder if more people will pop up having this problem suddenly. Can you check if you can connect to your Phone through adb when on the static screen? That still seems to work here.
It might make sense to move this discussion to that other thread to have one location for the people having the same problem.

So a couple of days back I was updating my apps from Play Store over WiFi and after that I tried to check the Amazon Appstore app for updates. Everything went normally but after the completion of the update check process my screen started displaying artifacts, somewhat like this as it happened to a Moto X 2014 user, mine is a 2013
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=59982007&postcount=12
then after a while the whole screen turned to this;
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

The touchscreen was working though so I was able to turn the device off by tapping in the center of the screen at the position the 'Power off' prompt usually appears but on restart the same damn thing. This pixellated artifact display was even showing in the boot up screen and then the screen stayed on until the power button was tapped to turn it off. I even checked the power off charging screen and it was the same, so I left the device off for the night, planning to take it to a service center the next day.
The next day when I turned the device on it was the same pixellated screen so I proceeded to do a remote wipe from Android Device Manager portal since the device already had Wifi on but then suddenly the display came back, just like that. I was unable to recreate the issue by following the same steps as it happened the first time. I have only like a month remaining in my warranty period and with my luck it will surely resurface after the warranty is over.
So my question is, is there any way to find out if this is a hardware or a software issue? Someone on that other thread I linked said something about a qcom bug in the adreno drivers,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=59986742&postcount=15
so could this be a result of that bug? My Moto X (2013) is on stock 5.1 and is running quite smoothly after a couple FDRs. If this is in fact a software bug, would it persist after a shutdown/reset? A question of overheating can also be ruled out since the device was left switched off overnight and there was no change in the display after turning it on the following morning. Then how did the display restore itself after the device was left on for some time? Was it an internal process involving the graphics subsystems that somehow crashed the adreno driver and was reset after completion? I also made a post on the official Motorola forums but unfortunately nothing helpful there either. https://forums.motorola.com/posts/f371030235
This whole thing is really spooky so if anyone is able to throw any light into this, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Hi guys,
Since the last few days, I got stuck with an issue using my GPS autoradio (I'm not sure about the exact name in English hahah).
The model I have is exactly this one I could find on Aliexpress : fr.aliexpress.com/item/Factory-Price-Car-DVD-Player-Mercedes-Benz-E-G-CLK-CLS-Class-W211-W463-W219-W209/32272154557.html
My issue is that when I turn it on, it is stuck on this screen :
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",
"lightbox_stop_slideshow": "Stop slideshow",
"lightbox_full_screen": "Full screen",
"lightbox_thumbnails": "Thumbnails",
"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
On the middle of the screen, it means "Error code 001", and and the bottom right corner it is "Reset". This is a button I can press on. But it has exactly the same effect as the physical Reset one, which doesn't work. It just shuts off the unit which boots up back by itself.
I did maaaaaaany research online, I found a lot of stuff, but nothing worked for me.
Here are some info about the unit (sometimes (very very rare) the unit boots up normally, that's how I could get those information) :
From there, I ended up on this link : forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/HuiFei_Android_Radio
I got a lot of interesting information, but none of them worked for me. I can't get into the recovery. The technique with the reset button and the power button just make the unit end up on the error 001 screen. I even tried he other one using only the power button, but when the unit is on the error 001 screen, the power button has no effect, even if I press it for more than 1 minute.
Once, the unit worked, I tried to go into the settings and reset the device using the "Factory default" tab, but it asked a password. I tried a lot of them, 126 518 and other "typical" password but none of them worked, as soon as I press "ok", the keyboard disappears and nothing happens.
I am pretty lost, could someone help me ? What I am asking in how can I reinstall WinCE, or make it work again ?
Thank you for your help, and I hope my English wasn't far from accurate ;p
Any luck?
Hi i have the same problem.Did u find any solution?
Hi, on the software side no I couldn't find anything. It's been a while though, maybe there are some new stuff about it on the internet.
But my father found a solution that's okay for me, he added a switch to the main power of the autoradio. When the autoradio is down, deactivate and then activate the switch make it work again. My father discovered this solution because he noticed that when switching the car off and then on again the autoradio would work again. Thanks to the switch there is no need to restart the whole car again.
Tell me if you want more information about this solution I'll ask my father.
Hi, I've been using my Mi 9 for almost 3 years with no issues but since 2 weeks phone started to behave strange. Phone had no contact with water, didn't fall to get damage, had no chance to overheat recently.
When you lock the screen you couldn't unlock it, no reaction on power button click or tap on finger print, the only way was to hold down power button and reset the phone. The issue become more frequent so I thought this is becouse almost all the memory used but I free up 10GB and nothing changed. I told myself I need to do new backup of the phone and a hard reset but before I completed that, my Xiaomi got bricked.
The screen is black and does not show anything.
I managed to run recovery mode once but option to reboot the phone didn't help, and since that time I can't get to recovery mode either.
I thought that maybe I'll use Clonezilla to clone entire device memory do external SSD but it's not recognized as storage device.
When I plug it with USB-C cable to Windows 10 it actually shows up as Mi 9 T Pro:

}
I thought that I'll maybe I'll use: adb pull /sdcard/ but I get error: 5e08c65f unauthorized
I've backup from Dec 2021 and I managed to copy 90% of Camera folder before phone got bricked but still missing recent videos which are important to me (mostly videos of my 2-years old son).
The most important question here: Is there any other way to copy data from the device since looks like Windows computer can see it still when connected with USB?
What's the possible issue of the phone, and how can I fix that? If it's not possible to fix it at home, is it possible for Xiaomi Autorized service to repair the phone without erasing my data?
Please help! I'm in desperation, I love that device, it's design and features, I thought I'll be using it for at least 3 more years or possibly as long as it will live as I can't see any other devices that have: Popup camera, mini jack and USB-C.
