Hi. I'm looking for clean and fast custom ROM to install on my ROG Phone 3. I don't care about features, customization and stuff like that. Want cleanest and fastest ROM for playing games like PUBG Mobile, COD, Fortnite.
Right now i have latest TWRP, Magisk on my phone and i don't have PC.
Which ROM would be best for me?

No real need. The stock ROG 3 rom with root access can be de-bloated, de-cluttered, deep cleaned and completely stripped down for blazing fast performance and battery life to a level that custom roms wouldn't make much difference if any at all, short of completely de-Google'ing the device - which you wouldn't want if you game anyway, since most games depend on components like Goog Play Services and GSF (the stock ROM can in fact be de-Googled to if needed).
Key is to remove every single Google app possible and replace those that you absolutely need with light alternatives, as well as a lot of the useless pre-installed ASUS stuff that runs in the for/back-ground. Also, remove all background syncing that you can do without including all active cloud connected services and syncing. Reduce auto-startup of apps to an absolute minimum of what needs to run. Disable background data for all apps and services that don't need it.
Root access + a good app that allows you to go to work is all you need for doing a Formula-1 setup of ROG3.

I have this strange problem with my N6 in that after about 2 days use it becomes quite laggy and unusable requiring a restart. When this happens the camera becomes unusable as with HRD+ off, taking a picture from pressing the shutter button to an image being captured can take several seconds. This isn't really acceptable.
And every now and then I clear the cache also which helps but seems a bit drastic.
Can anybody think what might be causing this? It's quite annoying as you might expect and didn't appear to be like that when I first bought the phone.
I don't run anything fancy and use a standard wallpaper (no active ones) and very few if any background tasks apart from the usual Google ones.
Maybe when (and if) Nougat comes out for it, it might improve but it seems strange that a phone would do that.
Thanks

An app or Google play services.
Try Advanced Task killer and uninstall the Google services updates.
Flash a custom ROM and use a good Kernel... Problem solved.
Sent from my Nexus 6 using XDA-Developers mobile app
If your phone doesn't run hot without reason, you should backup your important internal stuff to PC or USB and flash a clean factory image to wipe the phone totally.
First i would try shayneflashindaily's advice.
Thanks. I installed Advanced Task Killer and killed a few tasks that I didn't know were running and that seemed to help. Not clear to me how to uninstall Google Drives l Services Update.
It does run hot sometimes for no apparent reason but while I'm happy to do factory reset I'm not sure I want to flash a custom ROM or kernel.
Doesn't a different kernel require root? The bootloader is unlocked but I never was able to gain root and given I use credit card payment over NFC I think root would break that.
I had the same problem and i've opened the very same thread.
No matter what advice i followed or what app i used to fix the problem, neither truly fixed it 100%. You will experience the same problem after a bit, along with low battery and general hotness of the phone.
Only one cure to it: decrypt your phone. It's the only way and that fixed 100% my problems. So you need a force encrypt disabled rom such pure nexus and Fed Patcher. That means you need to install also TWRP.
The main culprit is the forced encryption.

Root will break NFC paying, but some managed to unroot add card number and root again.
Decryption will speed up a bit the performance, but you need root access.
A prerooted stock rom of Danvd is a good choice, but take care with rooting as long as you need apps that refuse to work with rooted phones.

That seems like a bridge too far for me. The only reason I considered rooting the N6 before was to enable the notification light which apparently does exist on the N6 but requires Root for LIghtflow to use it. I decided the alternative of the Amoled notifications was good enough and provided more information

You have to check out the Android device manager in Settings - security - device administrators.
For more info - follow the link.
https://www.androidpit.com/google-play-services-what-is-it-and-what-is-it-for
The link doesn't work but I can't see anything about who is a device administrator - just a few services like Gmail, Android Pay and Android Device Manager

Dear fellow ROM-lovers
As a looong-time ROM-user, I'm still trying to find thé perfect ROM. I've used a ton of ROM's, some of them are:
STOCK: Project Noble, Virginity, Ronin
KitKat: Omni-ROM, Cyanogenmod, Paranoid Android, SlimRom, pretty much anything popular
Lollipop: Omni-ROM, CyanogenmodI haven't tried out Marshmellow ROM's since it's rather new.
The STOCK-ROM's are obviously the better choice when I'm talking about battery life. I really don't care about customization anymore since I've gotten to the point where only useful things matter on this old s3 mini of mine.
Nooow, to get to the point. I'm looking for the ROM with thé best performance. I don't care if it's a MIUI-ROM or anything else like that, I just want a buttery smooth phone. Ofcourse a decent battery life is kind-of required too. I was told STOCK-ROM's have the best performance in the market, but the 'buttery smoothness' is losing it's potential to be honest. Or I might ask for something that just isn't possible, in that case, I'd appreciate your opinion too.
Now it would be too much to ask for good battery life, good performance and good customization, so I'm only really asking about the first two. I've tried crossbreeder mod, putting scale animations on 0.5 in dev settings, other fly-on mods, but I'm still not really satisfied yet. If you have any other optimization-ideas, let me know.
Chrome and Snapchat are just slow like hell, other apps often take a very long time too , I'm just looking for something I don't know.
If you have any suggestions, I'm excited to hear about it!
Ty!
Edit: I also read something about the influence of governors in performance. What are the best options to go for in this type of customization?
I use Omni lollipop & freeze / delete the stuff i don't want. This gives me good ram & better performance over stock. Best performance use F-kernel but you may need to do the additional instructions in the F-Kernel Q/A thread to get Nova Thor to work. I tried it & got better performance but it was never quite stable enough for me. On FKernal lollipop i had to add the Nova Thor app & add a init.d script granting the Mali folder permissions 755 (see thread).
The issue for me with this device was the memory & multi tasks but with Omni its does the job. Also with stock the cve issues, Omni lolli more upto date.
Oh yeah if you can don't use Gplay as its a hog on older devices, just my 2 cents.

What works well in this ROM is xposed fakegapps and microG instead of gapps
I recommend stock ROM with stock kernel for best hardware compatibility and performance.
I tried several custom ROM but unfortunately (in my phone) there are some incompatibilities with the hardware. Compass is not perfectly working and the most annoying is charging was never complete to 100%. They are also uses more RAM.
I installed custom kernel (3.0.101) on stock ROM and having problem with charging. I think it is a kernel-related issue. So, I revert back to stock kernel (3.0.31) and everything came back to normal.
For better performance, try uninstalling un-needed apps (Samsung and Google apps, including Google Play Services). You can use microG GmsCore to replace Google Play Services. It even has alternative to Network Location. :good: I am also using older version of some apps because it seems to use less RAM than newer versions. Google Play Store is working with microG.
For smoother scrolling, I activate "Force GPU Rendering" in Settings > Developer options. It helps scrolling performance in Contact and Messaging apps a bit.

Yes, sounds like a good idea for speed, but a bad idea for security. Using an outdated ROM, the only protection comes from an uptodate playservices. Microg has no malware protection.
Hello guys, i´m new to android (note 8 is my first device, previously i had an iphone 7 plus).
I have a question/problem, normally my note 8 gives me about 5/6 of screen on time, but when i put on a theme (downloaded from the galaxy theme store) y reduces DRASTICALLY my battery life like 4 hours of screen on time, the theme that i downloaded is called "Android O" i guess and it puts my interface all dark (it's suposed to increase battery life by turning of pixels right?) but it doesn't and i want to know what could be happening or what am i doing wrong...
On another matter i have downloaded the office apps (word, power point, excell) and they DONT work, i open them and they just crash, only those 3 apps, i have tried re-downloading them, clearing cache etc. but they just dont work. Any ideas??
Regarding the themes, there should not be any significant increase in batt drain, make a test going back to the default theme, and compare your SOT, it may be a coincidence with something else you installed or activated (4G, performance mode, AOD, sync, gps, bt, dpi, wifi, etc), as for the office apps, I dont know, I disabled all bloatware, incl office facebook yahoo, etc, and carrier rubish

Well I have uninstalled the theme and I'm back at 5:41 SOT and 10% battery left. And about the bloatware, how can I disable things like the sprint splash screen (if that's even possible) or the pre-installed apps?
It is good to hear that the theme indeed was the culprit, the splash screen can not be disabled easily, but, as for bloatware, download bk disabler from play store, this app can disable everything, but be careful, as it can disable system components also, it has a section named "bloatware" all that is safe to disable, but some bloatware is in section system, first identify very carefully what you do want or will not use, as some carrier related apps give you specific features, as VOLTE or data configurations

Good Day.
I would like to clarify that I do not know how to create ROMs and I do not know how to write codes(anymore) but since our devices are aging, would be it great to send our Xperia SP off with a bang with an Android GO edition-like ROM? our devices cant handle newer apps and processes anymore but at least I think the Go edition ROM can still make our phones as usable as daily drivers either on Android Q or Pie.
please consider. thank you.
As far as i may concerned, LOW RAM optimisations are already implemented in the codebase for current active ROMs for Huashan. And, to the best of my knowledge, which i may be wrong, these optimisations are derived from Android GO itself. I vaguely remember that at one time this is a main topic said by Adrian the master himself.
Huashan is no longer capable to run modern apps that somewhat uses heavy resources (which i myself don't understand why Instagram needed such a computing power). Unfortunately neither do current Go phones. That is why PWA is a thing to all Go devices. I.e. Maps Go, Twitter Lite, etc.
Of course this is not an objection to your proposal. Just thinking of dropping my thoughts here
Android Oreo and Pie just doesn't cut it well for this phone.
Instead of shoving newer android versions down this phones throat expecting miracles. We should go back to one of Lollipop or marshmallow ROMs and realise how much lag free and usable it is. They're still pretty modern looking and does the job well.

I don't agree with that, KaBombaBoom. I ran Oreo for a long time and recently upgraded to Pie. The phone is still surprisingly fast until some hungry app gobbles up all RAM and it starts running on swap.
That's what doesn't cut well for any phone in the long run, those apps that keep growing bigger and bigger and requiring more RAM though mostly or no new functionality is added.
Google Play Services itself is heavy, not to mention other google apps such as their mail, I open it from the browser these days. I'd love to get away without GApps but retaining the deep sleep wake that push notifications provide.

How is your experience with that emcom? Does your phone wakes up from deep sleep when you get IM?
That's the main reason I never tried android without GApps. That and the fact that all drivers are mostly proprietary anyways, so why bother

Of course it wakes up. I've been using it as my daily driver with WhatsApp for some time last year, and it was perfect. There was just one problem which I could not resolve : message backups. I mean, it was working perfectly when I made backups on the SD card, but if I wanted to have them somewhere in the cloud, the only option was the Google Drive - which is not working without Google services.
Btw. it's possible to use One Drive instead of Google Drive (eg. for photos backup in the cloud, but not WhatsApp - if you have maybe Office 365 subscription.
And it's possible to have anything else running without Google - contacts, messaging, even a lot of applications indicating they need Google on the phone - they are working without Google anyway. Thet's except for paid apps, of course.
Hello! I've found the best custom rom + kernel for my needs and I wanted to share with you guys.
In my opinion the smoothest, good battery backup (8-9 hours sot) and performance combo is Pixel Experience + and Predator kernel. To make all of your apps work properly enable force fulllscreen mode for any of them . Now let me share with you guys some battery tweaks:
1. Install Naptime and make sure that these options are enable:
https://imgur.com/a/TR0EV5d
2. Restrict any app in the background that you don't need to work in the background, like these apps:
https://imgur.com/a/INZF0Bi
3. Disable unused default apps like these:
https://imgur.com/a/PAqMJpr
and disable Google Assistant if you don't use it ( if you disabled Google app you will not found Search, Assistant and voice in the settings ): Settings - Google - Account services - Search, assistant and voice - Google Assistant - Assistant - General - Disable Google Assistant. Also disable location/ Find My Device, automatically data sync for apps.
4. Disable automatically backup for Google Photos.
Here are some apps which I use it and it will make your life easier:
- Youtube and Youtube Music without ads ( no need to root ): https://vancedapp.com/
- Magisk, needs to be flashed in custom recovery: http://www.mediafire.com/file/vzf3re143yb68uc/Magisk-v21.1.zip/file
- Google Camera. You will need to install "Remove Google Camera" module in Magisk first if you have it already installed in your rom, the link for this module is this one: http://www.mediafire.com/file/bhm6dhrrnqiar2d/RemoveGCam.zip/file
Google Camera ( if you don't have it already installed as default camera, you can install it as any apk file, no need to root ) , this is the download link for it: http://www.mediafire.com/file/eogevstxhlq0yvv/MGC+7.4.201+Parrot043+V1.1.apk/file
- L1 Security patch that will make Netflix stream more than SD: https://www.mediafire.com/file/85mrfht25lzjfjx/DRM_L1_Patch.zip/file
( needs to be installed in Magisk )
- I also changed the default launcher because it's not that customizable, and I found this launcher to be more customizable and well optimized:
http://www.mediafire.com/file/p6uxixksr05w17w/Systemless_ShadyLauncher-v1.5.zip/file
- If you want to have Dolby Atmos install these Magisk modules ( Install in this order ):

2. Audio Configuration Database:

Everyone has their own personal opinion. But I don't think that restricting apps to work in the background, Naptime or disable some bloatware can negativity affect the performance. On the contrary, it should improve performance and battery life.
