How To Get TWRP Recovery W/out Computer? - Razer Phone 2 Questions & Answers

is there anyway to get twrp on my razer without the use of a computer? only way i ask that is because my razers' usb port is shot. so i cant even connect to any type of computer. i can only wirelessly charge it. so i was wondering if there was an way to download it to my phone. my phones rooted and all that but i dont have a custom recovery, and i feel like i need one just in case i ever get into a sticky situation

I am wondering the same thing. The faulty Razer phone 2 usb port problem has hit my phone as well and it is out of warranty. My bootloader is unlocked, just need twrp and root. From SD card.. any help is appreciated.

Since you have root, you can always download the official TWRP app from the Google play store and then install recovery that way. But need bootloader unlocked.

Anyone have any idea how to get root/twrp via SD card?

hmm , yes you can ( /me successful a not flaming TechnicalK )
basically the 1st question I need to ask you is are you on 2.1 or on 2.01 ?
2.1 needs vulenrable recovery flashed onto it , most 2.01 dont .
Depending on the f/w version... if you do need to flash it ( using rsdlite ) then yes you need the usb cable . (pretty easy to get and cheap especially on eBay)
Otherwise just grab GOT 's openrecovery and put it in sdcard then you can have lots of fun .
you def.ly need the pc to computer the required files you need to your sd card. once your files are on the card then you can root your phone with no pc needed, but again that's after you get the files on your phone...
You def.ly don't need the pc to do the root process if that's what you meant.

Nerver heard about the cellphone's browser.
As Dag said, if your phone is already vulnerable you can easily do everything you need w/o a pc.
Not sure if it works, and its not free like the DMUpdater was (really hoping they release a new version for free), but I got this from Droid-Life. (hope thats ok)
Im not going to post the link as I dont want to get in trouble, but its $.99 and I believe its on the market.
Look on site mentioned above, its on page 2 currently (or you can click the 'root' tab uptop on site to see older news)
Easy Root- The newest 1 touch droid rooting app
Also, is the problem JUST the lack of a USB cable, or do you actually not have access to a computer? If it's the former, you can easily get the correct USB cable for less than $5 online. Just look for a microUSB cable.
And pardon my possible ignorance, but how are you charging the phone without a USB cable? If you have the stock Motorola charger, the USB cable should be detachable, and you can plug it into the computer using that cable.
Yes you can. There is an app in the market called EasyRoot. I havent used it myself, but have read reports of it working great.
Yes -- EasyRoot works great on a stock 2.1/2.2 Droid.
It uses a hotplug exploit nicely packaged in an APK.

[Q] Going back to stock 2.1 from 2.2 without ODIN

Hey guys,
I had posted another thread regarding how my Captivate was only charging via the USB and not allowing any sort of data connection. There has been no change, and Im looking to at least take it back to stock to take to get fixed or to wait for OTA updates.
Is there any way to replace system files from within the phone to bring it back to the stock JF6? Can I use ODIN over bluetooth or wifi? My guess is no. Any other ideas anyone has?
Thanks!

^if you are rooted with rom manager ( this is unsighned ) this is the ota jf7. that is as close to stock as we can get. i dont think jf6 has been made into a .zip.
if you are not rooted you can cognition 2.2 beta 5.5 and up. there is a kernel with the proper 2e recovery version but it needs odin to install. this kernel is in cognition beta 5.5-7
edit: 2nd link removed because it would be useless to the op.
if youre not already on cog beta 5.5-7 you might be SOL. now that i think about it you need 2e recovery for root, you need it to flash a signed rom, you need it to run clockwork mod recovery, you need it for evrything that will flash your phone without usb really.
forgive the stupid question but have you verified that it is the phone that has a broken usb? does the computer see anything? did you try odin? can you get download mode? did you try adb? different drivers? different cable? different computers?
you may need to send it for repair and pay the bill yourself. or if you have insurance report it stolen or run it over with your car. break the screen, something...

Beta 6 and 7 versiosn have the 2e recovery baked in, the kernel has 2e support with that ROM.
Sorry about your USB not being recognized. Have you tried to install the drivers? What were you doing with your phone when this happened?

Are you using the USB cord that came with the phone, or a purchased one? I can only connect with my PC using the real original cord.
As mentioned I hope you are on cog 2.2 6 or 7 then you can flash JH7 ota on your phone.

Grab this with your phone, and use ClockworkMod Recovery to install from .zip. This is the official JH7 OTA update and it is signed. This is the closest to stock you can get without a usb cable, bonus, it is rooted for you, that's the only difference.
I tried to flash via clockwork with a signed OS like the JF7 one, but I still get an error. Same one as trying to flash an unsigned rom. I still boot into 3e recovery, which I know is wrong. I cant flash a different kernel or anything to change it as I cant connect via USB. I think Im pretty much done at this point. I do have a working version of Cog 2.2b3... the screen is usually stays in landscape mode. Occasionally it will boot up in portrait mode. Do you guys know a reason for this?
Thanks!

already answered, any luck?
I have read through as many posts as I could find and appreciate all the help. I cant flash to a newer version of Cog which is my biggest problem. I am stuck with the 3e recovery and without being able to make a data connection to run ODIN. I can get the phone into download mode, but there is zero data connection via the USB cable. Cant connect to the SD card with the phone on and cant connect to the computer in download mode. It used to work, same usb cable, all drivers installed, and with the same computer. Just stopped one day. Ill keep the search alive. Hoping at one point, we will be able to flash out of 3e recovery and it will save my day!
I am in the same boat as you bro (exact same scenario). Thanks for posting this and thanks for all the people that have posted advice! I'll keep checking back with this thread to see if there is any hope of a fix for us.
Holy bump!

Help please!

Overnight my nexus 6's USB port decided to die. Computers wont pick it up, it wont charge, AND my turbo charger makes a beeping sound while it is plugged in. tested w/ an old phone and it charges. i've tried different bricks and everything. still nothing. So i am trying to find out if there is some way i can unroot it, flash stock recovery and relock the bootloader without a computer because i cannot figure this out. i know i can do the super SU uninstall from supersu, but that will not fully unroot my phone correct? it will just remove root permissions. if i cant figure this out, i need to return the phone back to verizon and get another. but if i do so as is, i can say goodbye to my warranty... which i dont want to do. So if anyone can give me some help or steps in the right path, please do so. Thanks.

last night i went to bed and plugged it in and it charged just fine. i woke up in the middle of the night and heard a beeping. found out that my phone wasnt charging. and well. here i am now.

Don't panic.
2.
When your N6 is not charging with the M-charger you have 2 options:
- use another standard charger and/or cable.
- buy a cheap qi-pad and try wireless charging.
3a.
When the N6 can be charged with the help of 2. you can flash a factory image.
Don't forget to remove your accounts first.
3b.
When the N6 can't be charged, there will be a moment it can't switched on/start up.
Than send it back with the message: N6 can not be turned on since 'to day'.

Will doing 3a relock my bootloader and also flash stock recovery? i believe that is my main problem i see with if i need to return my phone. If i return this phoen (even if its dead) they could repair it and get it turned on. once they see the unlocked bootloader... thats my next concern. also, i dont see how i can flash a factory img w/o a computer. since it is not registering when i connect it to anything. i downloaded a factory image and tried from recovery, but it didnt show up in the place it downloaded

Relocking is the last thing you should do.
First unroot and back to stock.
Then test again the charging.
When still charging issue and full stock and accounts removed......

You can flash only images that are saved in the internal storage of the N6.
You need to boot in recovery and than flash the images with TWRP or CWM
You need also to flash the stock recovery.
That is your problem.
You could try if TWRP will flash the stock recovery image over itself. But I think that won;t work.

I am very sorry for you.
You need to have 'the extracted images' on your internal storage. Extract on a PC the images and than transfer to a cloud storage like Dropbox.
But still your problem will be how to 'reflash stock recovery' without a working usb-connection.
The only suggestion I have is discharging....
Send it back with the simple message 'charging not possible' and wait/hope.

You need a QI-compatible charging pad.
After sales stuff for Samsung is mostly QI.
Big chance you can use the wireless charging of your friend.
Why are you so worried about getting it back to stock software-wise when what you have seems to be a hardware failure that can't be caused by software?

Although it concerns a hardware failure unlocking bootloader and/or rooting etc. is a violation of the warranty rules.
Furthermore repair is mostly outsourced to several companies that declare the costs of repair/replacement. Often at fixed price conditions. So declaring costs at users could be more attractive.

Wow. That probably would have worked. I sucked it up and took it to a local repair shop though. Good as new. A co worker ofbnine advised that if I ever need a warranty replacement, I could always just destroy the phone... Although I could never just simply on purpose destroy my phone lol. Another friend said to just simply report as lost. They'll send me a new phone and I can do whatever with the old one. But as for now, I'm all set. If I need it fixed, I will definitely be going back to the place I went. They did excellent work.

Unroot without computer

So, I had an issue with the charging port on my Nexus 6 and Motorola is sending out a replacement phone. This is actually the second time this has happened. Anyway, the last time it happened, I was able to get a USB connection and unroot the phone and wipe everything before sending it back to Motorola. This time however, one of the pins on the USB connection has broken and I believe it is one that is used for data transfer and my PC won't recognize the device. I know how to unroot with a computer connection, but I was wondering if anyone knew how to unroot without a computer? I'm still able to move files on and off the phone via wifi, cell and Bluetooth. Thanks in advance for any help.
There's a full unroot option in SuperSU, afterwords you can flash stock rom, not sure how you will get the bootloader locked though
Ok, I found the option in SuperSU for the full unroot. Thanks for that. Now to figure out how to lock the bootloader...

I don't know how you'll be able to flash the stock ROM tbh without fastboot as well as relocking the bootloader. Maybe it would be possible to setup a SSH connection to your phone and send the fastboot commands through there? Not sure, not a pro at this, maybe someone else can lean in here and help you out
Do you have twrp installed, you can copy a stock image over and flash it with twrp. If not, box it up and cross your fingers. I doubt you will have any trouble. Everyone worries about this but never seen anyone say they got denied.
Google The Magnuson Moss Warranty Act. It says manufacturers can't deny warranty unless they can show what you did caused the issue. This is a physical issue, obviously you didn't.
Link to use twrp to flash.

Yes, I have TWRP installed. If I can't find another way, I'll flash a stock rom over it and hope for the best. Thanks!!

I can verify that when I first joined the beta program I successfully took the OTA with TWRP and it rebooted to stock recovery.
So what your saying is I should be able to flash a stock rom with twrp and take an ota update and it should go back to the stock bootloader? Will this also relock the bootloader as well?
From what I know it will take everything back to stock except relocking the bootloader. For that you need to fastboot lock the device. What I have read through several sites is that having an unlocked bootloader it will not affect warranty fixes or replacements..

Help please!!!

For the most part i am not a noob. I have used kits, and roms, and odin, and twrp for years on sammy devices.
Ok, so here it is.
I had phone rooted, all was good, went through the steps to unroot, and get official MM update, then rooted again. I am now looking to get the new Google Pixel device, however, the person taking the phone wants it stock, and unrooted.
I have all the files downloaded, but now it seems that my phone will not connect to the computer, nor will it be recognized by ODIN, this is the same computer i always, use, i do not do any updates on this computer, it is pretty much used only for phones, and video editing.
Should i try wiping device first, then see if it connects so that i can flash via ODIN?
Device does not come up either when looking into the Device Manager.
Any help would be much appreciated.

If You're already on stock just rooted why not boot into recovery and factory reset? If not on stock try another touchwiz based ROM see if you can get USB connectivity of any type, if so good, if not USB port may have a cold solder on data pins.
Since youre on stock this is one of the few times ibwould recomend using samsung kies. It should wipe your phone and set it back to stock. Good luck hope it works out.

Exactly why i suggested kies. It should work IF you are just rooted and stock and have made no other mods.

Phone will not connect to computer unless the device is powered off so I can't use Keys cuz it does not detect that the phone is plugged in

Finally got a ROM to download, just finished installing. As soon as I get home, I will see if I can connect to my computer. I will update back with more info.
New update, RaoM, downloaded, and flashed. Everything good. Still no USB working. So now I am to guess it is broken, but, have no way to return to stock.
So, how do I return to stock without access to computer via Odin or kies?
I have purchased a spare battery last week anyway, got it yesterday, came with battery charger. So for now good, a little bit.
Nope, no working. Now it seems that the USB port works about 5% of the time. And Tmobile, told me 200 to send it in for repair/replace, get the hell outta here.
If your usb is borked the only option is to open up the phone and see whats wrong. Do you have any repair shops close to you? Where i live we have these little cellular stores that sell cheap phones and repairs maybe they can replace the usb port? Other wise time for a new phone. You sure its the port and mot your usb cord? Good luck hope it works out.
