I'm super happy to see that there are still plenty of people developing for Op7p and android 12 being supported so fast.
But I'm now stumped as to what rom would fit me best.
The features list seem quite similar in a lot of cases.
Some don't have features posted at all.
Not every rom has screenshots posted, so visually it's hard to compare.
So I'm unsure how to actually compare roms.
Please post what rom you like best and why.
or even a review of one or multiple roms.
Get yourself a backup tool for your apps like Swift back up ,,Go crazy and just start flashing that's how you find out, I can honestly say I tried almost all the os11 and all the os12 and right now Iam running stock rooted os11, go figure,, roms are totally subjective,, most if not all run great for the basic needs. Just my opinion.

Thanks for the heads up on the Swift Backup app.

Specifically for the Samsung Captivate, why did you choose the ROM you have currently flashed on your phone and why? If you know about more than one ROM, would you mind telling me what you liked and disliked about each? It would be very helpful to me.
Please post this on the right section...we want to keep development for actual development...
I'm using Bacon and Axura with Red Soul theme. I love both rom because they are fast!
You can find more information in the ROM thread itself.

I do apologize. Didn't realize I posted here and meant to do so in the Q and A.
Could we get a mod to move it, please?
I asked the same thing...in development.....got a tongue lashing for being in the wrong thread and was directed here....wish you all would make up your mind!!!
I was a flashing fool. Did my fair share of trials and tests.
I ran through the Cognition roms. Loved each one as they got better and better. Vodoo lagfix is pretty easy if you understand how and when to disable. Pretty straight forward and noob friendly.
Perception is fast, shiny and new. Based on the I9000, the roms seem to need a bunch of tweaks and changes to get it to run decently. I was never happy with the performance I got from these and well I never really used it to it's full potential either.
So for now I'm back on JH7. I mostly use the phone just as that, a phone. No real advantage in using a custom rom for that.
It still depends on what you are looking for
Similar to earlier post I used the cog roms for a while. Easy to install and stable.
Currently on perception, much faster then stock our cognition. It has a ton of options for tweaks, but is a little more dangerous because it is less idiot proof. I am on the build 3 release and to be honest I will not be changing my rom for singer time.

Currently running auxura. It is a fantastic rom.... but you need to have a little knowledge on how to flash and use cement.
Its a very complete rom with an awesome theme and it is quick once you set it up correctly.
But. I do live Cognition .... just waiting for another release before. I flash back to it again lol.

I'm using and loving di11igaf's ROM. I used many variations of Cognition and I really appreciate it for bringing me into the world of custom ROMs, but the last version (2.3B6) seemed slow in comparison to AXURA and di11igaf's ROM. I really like the theme and speed of di11igaf's ROM.
Thanks for all the replies! I keep learning more and more every time I check this board out. I'm an ex iOS user and decided to move to Android and everything is tons different, very open, in fact. I think I'll continue to do more research on all the different ROMs and builds and make a little database for myself based on my research and decide from there. Then again, I'm sure the only way to know what I want is to flash each one.
I have yet to see any rom to match the speed of a i9000 based Rom. I have tried almost all of them and always come back to i9000 ROMs as they have the features I want and the best speed. Of course we all have different priorities.
I'm strongly considering about installing a new ROM. But before I do, I have a few questions before I do something I'll regret.
1. Since I've been gone from ROMs and XDA forums for a while, can you recommend me a ROM that is: stable, (almost) as fast as a stock ROM, fully functional (everything works as it should and no crashes), no RAM or CPU hogger, yet I see some eye candy (like these guys here)
2. Is it easy finding themes or do I have to scavenge the entire X1 subforums and topics to find something decent?
3. Is it easy changing themes (icons and the whole works)
4. perhaps a link to ROM comparisons?
Yes I know I'm whining, lol .. it's just that I want to minimize regretting a ROM change

Well the only type of 6.5.3 roms that would be as fast and stable as stock roms are the Titanium roms hands down. But the Titanium roms come with no Eye Candy so you have to ask yourself what type of UI would I want to run over them? There is a bunch of UI'S for WM, The ones I use are WAD(Wishbar Advance Desktop), Throttle Launcher 1.2.1, and Infinity 2.8. Though development has stopped for Infinity 2.8 because the guy thought it be more beneficial for him and his team to move to WP7rolleyes it's still one of the fastest UI'S I've ever used for WM. Now for me I don't like changing roms alot also because of the limited rom flashing cycle so I always research hard on a rom that I want to use because my goal is to flash my phone and never have to flash again and so far since 11/20/2010 I have reached my goal. I suggest looking at NRGZ28 Energy Titanium roms they are very stable, lots of free ram, and good battery life. I've also here alot of good things about Christians's roms. Also if you going with 6.5x also consider the different build numbers 231x,235x, 282x, and 29x because each has an effect on older 6.1 programs. All my programs work good on 282xx but we obviously might not be using the same programs .
2) Since I've had my X1i I have never used the X1 theme section if your looking for themes use the WM theme section under WM Development and Hacking.
3.) It's very easy changing icons as long as there is a folder that holds the icons for the specific theme you are using, it's as easy as finding the icon you want to change renaming the icon you want to use and that's it. The WAD theme and TL theme I showed in the Show Your Screen thread I completely reskinned myself with my own icons.
In this Q&A thread there has been many people who ask this very same question read through there threads and the answers people gave. I hope I helped alittle .
Thanks for the heads-up. I took a look at NRGZ28's Energy ROM and I'm pleased with what I read in his thread and saw on the screenshots. Kinda tempted to try out the .sencity but it's not 100% yet .. So I guess I'll go for the Energy one instead since it looks almost the same(ish).
I'm about to backup my contacts, use Task29 and then flash it.
edit: shucks .. my battery is as good as empty. Won't survive a flash

Good luck with flashing. I hope you have a good experience with the Energy rom .
Thanks. Everything is good so far and I'm positive about this ROM so far. I'm a bit new to WM 6.5 as well as all of these customized things so I'll have to play around a little.
some 6.1 rom is really really fast because there are no stuff installed and you can install whatever you want

Any recommendations?
Well, Energy ROM has lot's of eye candy, but IMO is a bit irresponsive from times times.
I'm using Laurenti's 6.5 LITE rom, and that's the way to go for me. Reliable and fast at thee price of visual effects, which are pointless except if you're bragging infront of your friends.
My recommendation for you is the "826x WM 6.5.3 build 29007 - Sense 2019"...Use the following link to check the details about the ROM : http://826x.blogspot.com/2011/01/rom-x1-826x-wm-653-build-29007-sense.html
Hi,
I Have searched this forum and saw that there are plenty of rom's made by different people. There are too many to choose from, i wanted to be suggested some nice stable rom's..other than the ones made by CyanogenMod.
Thanks.
Well you're right there are definitely a lot of ROMs especially for the nexus one cyanogen is definitely the most popular but another one that I like is miui you can also check out ROMs made by micromod for example desire port super hybrid but the best way to chose would be to just read around and find a good one you like.

The beauty of of having a rooted phone is trying out all the ROMs. With Amon or Clockwork, it's easy to backup your phone and then switch to a different ROM and see how you like it. If the new one doesn't suit your needs, you can restore back to the previous one and then start looking into trying out another ROM.
Here are my quick reviews on all the ROM's I've tried out so far.
Cyanogen: Most stable of any ROM I've ever tested, even the nightlies are stable. Not as visually appealing as others, but lots's of under the hood tweaking. You can always make it look pretty with other apps and add-ons.
Any of the Sense ROMs: Nice looking, some cool widgets that give you access to things like Facebook, twitter, SMS/MMS, email and scroll able contacts list right on the main screen. These ROMs are large though, they will eat up a lot of storage memory just being installed, and that's before you've installed any of your own apps. None have been as stable as Cyanogen for me yet though.
Any MIUI: If you've ever used an iOS device and noticed how smooth the screens scroll and transition from one to the other, MIUI come close to that smoothness, but so far for me, even less stable than Sense. Lot's of customization options available though.
For me, after having tested out all the ROM's that I have, I always end up going back to Cyanogen. Sure it's not as visually appealing as Sense or MIUI, but it's stability and frequency of updates (if you use the nightlies) more than makes up for that, IMHO. One thing about the Android platform that is great, is than you can always add more visual flare to a boring interface using market app and apps that you'll find here on XDA. My best advice though is test them all out yourself, not everyone likes the same things, and you have to test them for yourself to see what works for you.

Thanks you so much for the great advice, i now have the confidence to try other roms and see what best suites me.
Thanks for all the input from everybody else
Hi everyone !
There's quite some interesting roms for our LG Optimus 2x. I've been using stock, then DjangoManouche (for quite some time), then MIUI v5 (using it right now). MIUI seemed a good idea at the time, but honestly it's quite inusable, very heavy. So I'm looking for a nice and lightweight rom, which could be used with my LG specs, here :
JB preferred, kowalski kernel actually, new bootloader with 30b baseband.
Problem is, there are so much roms I have no idea where I should start ...
So, could you please share what you think i should give a try ?
Thank you !
I don't know about the baseband, but you should check mostly up to date roms, like tonyps' the ROM, cm10.1 t-build, pa by the same tony or cm10.1 by pengus. You could also try slim roms by djnoxd. If i remember correctly, all of them are pretty much lightweight, comes with kowalski kernel. I like the slim rom color inversion, but other roms are nice too. You should try them and see which one appeals you most. Good luck!
Sent from my LG-P990
Check my signature. Very nice ROM I am sure you will like
hmm ... 2 answers already, and 2 suggesting slim* roms. I think that's the way to go then
Seems there are multiple versions ? Anyway, thank you both of you for your advices, I will try it and come back to close this topic with result and feedback.
Again, thank you !
Ahh, I see a fellow "let's find the best" rom-flasher. I am more or less exactly like you. I even installed the latest MIUI just yesterday. But after having this device for some time, I found my sweet spot. Yes, MIUI is heavy(I even disabled some built in apps, but still wasn't good enough), ICS doesn't quite cut it, 2.3 is way too old for me to enjoy, and 4.4 is not perfect. I found my sweet spot to be TonyP's Clean CM10.2. I use it with the Android 4.4 kitkat theme and Nova Launcher. That combined with Greenify does the job quite beautifully. As for SlimBean, I didn't test it, but I see a lot of users are enjoying it. Search. That's my advice. I used every available rom on here, just to find my preference. For now, I'm waiting for CM11 and the 3.1 kernel to be fully operable, and then I'll probably switch to CM11. All in all, you've got everything you need.
Thanks for your advice NoDze. Topic is a bit more specialized, as I'm searching for the lightweight rom, not the best. I honestly can't try them all but I guess I can't really avoid it at some point. So, thanks for sharing your setup, that's another one to considerate :good:

By definition, a lightweight rom should be one with only basic stuff implemented, like phone, messaging and stuff, and furthermore, it would be nice that such one is as AOSP as possible. Tony's The ROM, for example, is in my opinion bloated with features, and that's why I avoid it. I, myself, remove all applications that I consider unusable fro the zip, prior to flashing. SlimRom, as much as the name might imply, is in my opinion full of additional features for which I find no need. It is a great rom, nevertheless, but everyone has its own preference. You can even try the good old "Look Ma" CM10 by Pengus. That ROM has only basic stuff, clean CM and I often hear here on the forums that by flashing KK M1, it's a beast. I mean, asking which ROM is the best is really as if you're asking what superhero is the best in a comicbook store. As for lightweight: OptiX(ICS), LookMa(CM10),SlimBean(CM10.1, CM10.2). I know you knew all this, but I just wanted to provide further info.

'Seems quite a good definition to me . That's what i was searching for. SlimBean answered the call. For now, it rocks It was able to withstand everything I've thrown at it, plus the installation was smooth, fast, and easy. Indeed, there's a lot of features i'm not going to use, but it doesn't seem to affect speed (so far). Everything is working (i mean Camera, Photo, Wifi etc) and LG2x is very well responding.
Curiously, the only things a bit out were native android launchers : i've tried the one that comes with slimbean and the 4.4 launcher, and i experienced some problems with both of them rapidly (some slowdown, crashes). Apex launcher fixed that, but i'm not sure why android launchers were so slow.
Then, thank you again for your answers and your infos. Acknowledged, received, and saved
[Troll mode /on] And by the way, everyone in a comic shop should know that wolverine is the best superhero ever created... mwhouhahah [Troll mode /off]
I'm looking for functionality, little or no bugs, I am looking to stick as close to stock as possible with the option to customize if I wanted to. I know there are a ton of ROMs and I could spend ages scouring them for the one that might be right for me.

Did you install twrp also? You will need that to flash anything... might want to back up what you currently have before flashing also. If you like the stock feel, you can always wait until xposed comes out of alpha and start your customizing with it too.... lots of good info here if your not familiar with it. As far as UI is concerned you don't necessarily have to flash a custom rom, you always try a few different launchers on for size first.... Nova is pretty popular apex is another.... I am using action 3 right now which I like...
I would suggest clean ROM for a very stock like experience and then install MCR mod pack. This is my setup and I love it.
Cleanrom and sinless. Both stockish and super stable.
Stock. If you're not going to try for yourself, then you shouldn't go sheep.
OP you should really look around the development forums, you can't expect what works for other people to work for you as well. Usually down the line, you'll have a question and you'll want to be searching for the answers, not to ask others for the answer when the answer to your question has already been answered.
Everything in life, you can't just ask for it. Similarly to your decision to purchase what car, what college you want to apply to, etc... all of that you can't just ask someone. That's something for you to determine for yourself. Except the difference here is that all ROMs and kernels are free, be adventurous and try them all out (or at least the ones you found interest into).
My recommendation to this is to look at ROMs based on the following criterias,
- Popularity... how popular is the thread? Why is it popular?
- How frequently does it get updated? Do I like to flash ROM updates daily/weekly?
- Read the last couple of pages (or skim) and see what other users have been saying about the ROM
