Hey everyone.
I love the PocketCM keyboard (compared to the default Windows one), but i there any way to make it the default keyboard?
Mine will stay up and running until I reboot the phone, then I have to select it again. It wouldn't be that much of an issue, only that sometimes I have a difficult time getting the program to start. It's in the SIP choice list, but it just won't start. Sometimes, I have to go to another program to get it running. Once it's running, however, it's not an issue.

I would like to open it only when I need it ( so means just tap it and open it)Its better to read mesages etc, and then answering

Me too, whats the point in getting a text message, going to read it and not being able to see it without closing the keyboard down, rubbish!!!

Sorry if this has been posted, I did do a search and couldn't find a solution.
Whenever I change the input type in the input settings, it immediately defaults back to compact qwerty when I go back in to look.
Is this a known problem?

After flashing the new ROM i've the same problem.
Every time i switch the keyboard layout, it automatically returns to compact QWERTY.
Can the layout be set in the registry?
I haven't found any solution yet.
fixing the default imput method
I also had this problem and it was driving me mad! However, searching the forum I came across a recommendation to use a little program called SIPchange. I installed this (it's free!) and it allows you to set any imput method as the default. So far it seems to work.
The only problem I now have is that the Letter Recogniser doesn't show me any suggested words as I enter text, despite this option being switched on in the settings. Any ideas anyone?

What editor are you using?
I use Resco Explorer and it's a simple case of using modify to change the value in question.
Used it since first acquiring the Diamond a month ago with no special tweaks or authorizations... in much the same way I've used it for the last 4 years without any problems on my iPAQ4700.
Tell us a bit more about what and how you're using it, and someone who uses your editor might be able to help you.

Mmmmm, not familiar with cereg, but since you've had it working ok, it seems you've done something to scupper it. Try uninstalling it and reinstalling it maybe?! Should at least restore its default settings if its cereg you've broken. If it's not cereg, then your problem might be deeper and hiding in a pear shaped tweak you've inflicted along the way
If nothing works, give Resco Explorer a whirl... worth a try before a dreaded hard reset. If I remember rightly you can install it for a timed trial.

its a pc based app and you explore the phone from the pc it all happened after i installed kaiser then uninstalled it i think
Now beyond me as far as problems relating to Kaiser install/uninstall. Time to get a pda based editor and see how you go I reckon.
Anyway, fingers xxd you won't need to HR... but sometimes it's the only way when you keep tripping over problems like this.

I installed better keyboard and was usin it for a while but my phone just started running REALLY slow and I thought it was that so I went into my settings and all I did was uncheck it so it was disabled. And now I can't get back into my Locale and Text settings to even turn the default keyboard back on is there a terminal command I can type in to do this? Any advice would be great =)
I'm using a T-Mobile G1 with Maxisma's Hero ROM 1.8 and Recovery 1.4 and the most recent radio don't wanna go get the number right this second as I'm reflashing my ROM for the 3rd time >.<
i dont know how to help you with getting in the locale settings, but if you look at the guide about how to activate the g1 over wifi by jesusfreke... im sure you could figure out a command to force it open. if you want to change keyboards, press and hold on a text input box and select input selection. you should get the list of virtual keyboards.

I'm not quite sure what's causing it its pretty lame just won't let me access locale settings to turn the default touch keypad back on. Or even re-enable better keyboard i t just says com.android.settings has quit.
Solved
Fixed it by wiping data/factory resetting. And re-flashing my ROM. Works great now. Just a hassle. But hey, I've got the Hero UI on my G1 can't complain. Thanks =)
haha glad you got it to work one way or another. i was trying to get it to work without that but hey, wiping solves 99% of the problems

Freakin a lol. Touch input force closes now. Tried installing HTC_IME.apk but its not fixing it haha.

you need to flash the one from hero, not the one floating around on the forums. find it in the update.zip
