PocketCM Keyboard - Make default, even after reboot? - Tilt, TyTN II, MDA Vario III General

Hey everyone.
I love the PocketCM keyboard (compared to the default Windows one), but i there any way to make it the default keyboard?
Mine will stay up and running until I reboot the phone, then I have to select it again. It wouldn't be that much of an issue, only that sometimes I have a difficult time getting the program to start. It's in the SIP choice list, but it just won't start. Sometimes, I have to go to another program to get it running. Once it's running, however, it's not an issue.
Thanks in advance!

I use SipChange. Found it here in the XDA forums
k-c

Thanks! I'll give it a try!

Keyboard Questions

Hey Guys,
Few Keyboard questions:
1) How do you set PCM Keyboard as a default keyboard to pop up.
2) How do you disable PCM Keyboard from poping up when you have the Kaiser in the slid open position (actual keyboard exposed)?
Thanks
Dmitriy
1-Search for sipchanger.cab, it allows setting the default keyboard, even thru a soft reset.
2-don't know
#2- you have to turn ClearType off in landscape mode. You probably did a tweak that turned that on.
Save you the trouble of searching. I use PocketCM Keyboard too and when i start typing on the qwerty keyboard, PocketCM just hides away on it's own.

I do have it off. I use KaiserTweak and its off by Default
Am I logical when I feel that there is almost no need to install a whole program to set for example PocketCM as my default CM when just tapping PCM on the popup menu is enough, at least till the next restart.
Installing another program is just something I have to worry about that may need either updating, takes up memory, may get corrupt, adds weight.

Nope, your logic is sound. I weigh the size of the app's memory footprint and the benifit it provides. Sip Changer is tiny and seems invisible and does a great job of keeping the keyboard you want always correct even after a reset. So I merrily add these great little apps till I kill the phone, then start over But in reality I've got a first run TyTN II and have yet to need a hard reset and I have several "must have" apps running without issue.
It's a Pocket PC and as such is made to be tweaked and far as I know, this is a forum of tweakers for tweakers.

Stop screen keyboard from opening automatically

Argh! its one of those annoyances that pisses me off lol.
Every time I enter a text field screen keyboard pops up covering half of the screen.
How do I stop it? I want it to open only when I click on it.
..........
Out of curiosity, are you using the standard keyboard or Pocket CM, resco ect?
Standard, the one that comes with Dutty's v4. It has a Touch skin, but I think it's standard keyboard.
If there's an answer somewhere - please point me in the right direction.. I searched and didn't find anything (it's kinda hard to phrase this one)
Sorry. Don’t have any answers for you. I was asking just to keejp note just in case a similar problem occurred with my Kaiser. I have an original non flashed rom by the way, so it probably won’t be a problem with me.

Yes you will.
It's not a bug, it's a feature.. and it comes standard with every ROM I've seen (WM5+). Most people won't have a problem with it, but if I type something, I use hardware keyboard.. so on-screen keyboard pop-up is useless for me.
ummm... well it hasn't been a problem with any of the two MDA touch's, MDA vario II, or two MDA Vario III's I've had in the last few months... Fingers crossed it'll stay that way....
I would also like to see a solution
I vaguely remember a blank-sip or none-sip program exactly for this purpose. You could make it the default. Maybe PHM made it, try searching on the web.
I like the option of using the SIP sometimes, but most of the time I don't want it. It seems like once you use it once, it thinks you want it all the time, until you use the hardware keyboard again. How hard would it be to just let me click on it when I want it. Jeez!
a blank SIP is an option in this free program: http://www.phm.lu/products/PocketPC/PowerToys/
Blank SIP is a solution, but not a very good one. When I do want to use screen keyboard, I'd have to snipe that little arrow to open SIP selection, then find what I want and click it. Wait for it to load...
It'd be easier if it just wouldn't pop-up when cursor is in the text field. There's probably a setting somewhere..
Try this....

Try these registry settings that worked for me. When I used to open a new document with ms word or go to the address bar in PIE the sip used to pop up but not after applying these settings. After import .reg file or changing them manually you will need to soft-reset.
It now only pops up when i select rename file in resco explorer. But I can live with that.
Hope this helps...

Some programs call it automatically. It's the way they're coded. I would think there wouldn't be a way to suppress the on-screen keyboard without disabling it entirely.

The only other way to do this is to go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ControlPanel\Sip and change "AllowChange" from 1 to 0 and then soft-reset. However as you say this will disable it fullstop. So the only way you could enter info is either at the dialer (to call someone) or by using the slide out keyboard. To re-activate change the 0 back to a 1 at the above registry key.

Keyboard keeps sticking on number selection

Has anyone else had this. Using the touch diamond qwerty keyboard (not the tiny MS one) I go to enter information and the keyboard is stuck on the number and symbols page. No amount of pressing ABC will switch it back to the text entry mode.
I had had this error on two seperate Daimonds. One with world wide english and now one with the UK rom. It is driving me mad.
I've the same problem with both keyboards (the full one and the compact one). But until now, no solution

Flossi
I have purchased the cootek keyboard based on someone elses suggestion. It is hugely better. They have a qwerty one as well as some other faster input ones all part of the package and it was only $12 with free trial.
I have this problem too. To get the keyboard back I have to select the compact qwerty keyboard and then the full qwerty again. But that only works until I have to open the input panel again. It's very frustrating and has only just happened. The last think I did was install the Live Mesh application but I don't see how that could have effected the keyboard like this. Is there a place in the registry where I can set the default settings for the keyboard?
Have you got PCM keyboard installed. Mine only did it when that was installed and as soon as I uninstalled it fixed the other KB's. I have had the same problem on two different phones but only when PCM is installed.
I haven't installed any other keyboards, this just seems to have happened all of a sudden. However I thought I would search for forums again using different keywords and I found this thread;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=412234&highlight=keyboard+stuck
It suggested a registry location where keyboard settings are located, I set them to the values suggested in the thread and so far my keyboard has worked normally. I hoping that it's going to stay that way.
oh right thats weird because it is the same problem I had but it was because of this third party KB. I wonder if there is anything else you have installed that could have affected it. I would try uninstalling a few 3rd party apps and seeing if that fixes it.
If it happens again I'll give that a try, as it is I have my phone just the way I like it.
Thinking back I did make some keyboard changes, it was ages ago so it slipped my mind. I used a registry hack to turn off defaulting to T9 on the keyboard.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2482780&postcount=12
Looking back it makes use of the same registry settings. This could have been the cause, but I made the changes ages ago and the current problem only happened recently. Still, it's fixed now and I'm happy.
Life saver!

You are a fricking life saver (as is studz who originally gave the solution). I thought I was going to have to reflash my ROM. It happened to me after installing the TouchPal SIP. I decided I didn't care of it, so I went back to compact qwerty and suddenly it didn't work! The part that was messed up on mine was HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Layouts\e001 0409\
"Layout Text" and "Ime File."

How to setup keyboard?

I really don't understand because of all the screen shots I have seen but today I got my diamond and I only have the double keyed keybord ,but I want the full, usally in the screens shots there is a boten that you press and it changes the keybord. But i don't have it,so I went to settings keyboard and tried changing it to full qwerty, but no luck, can anyone help?
There should be a triangular looking icon next to the keyboard icon when you are in texting/email/document/etc mode. You click that icon, then a list pops up for you to select the input method.
I'd like to think that you've looked through the included instruction manual...
Thanks man,a minute after a posted this thread a have read the manual ,so Im embarrassed to say sorry for posting this

Might not work.. but just a suggestion, try it out if you have the time.
Recalibrate the screen.
Start - Settings - System
Screen
It's a long shot.. but hey.. you never know what might work.
tried that...
Hi LordRaj...
I tried that, but still no luck...
If I go to Start > Settings > Input, then I can see the list of keyboards. No matter which one I select it *always* puts it back to "keyboard".
not sure why, i'm using standard ROM that came with the phone.
help!

I have the same problem and there's another thread on this subject. There seems to be a few people now with this but no solution yet. If you look on the other thread, there is a utility called SIPChange which will allow you to make sure you get the "right" keyboard you want as default but in terms of selecting from the little arrow, forget it (until someone can work out which registry entries are causing this).
Gary.

Hi Gary,
Thanks for the reply...
I have been trying to figure it out all day...
Hi Gents, did anyone get this to work, I have also tried sipchange with the same results, it won't stick to any other keyboard other than diamond or builtin

when you say it won't stick, do you mean it changes back after a soft reset? I had that trouble with my current ROM but sipchange fixed it. try increasing the loading delay in sipchange.
I use TouchPal now which sets itself as default just fine - and I can't imagine needing any other keyboard again!

Thanks Davey101, tried the default 10secs, then 20secs and it did not work, after your advice I switched to 30sec and softReset, then 40sec the same affect.
Then I remembered in my Apache their was always a sipchange shortcut in Startup and when I checked the Diamond their was none, so I created one with the Set parm as my Apache, softreset and I am good to go.

Xda IIs noob here, need help T_T

I recently had a xda IIs before i found out that the qwerty is busted. I've searched the site and found out that theres an app which is "Fingerboard" that can be used as a keyboard aside from the default one that xda has. Now the question is that, can we install it to the BA? ive checked the thread about that and it says there that it need to match the screensize (QVGA,VGA,WVGA im not sure)And if possible I wanted to use that as my default keyboard since Im really not comfortable with using the stylus..
Thanks in advance for all your replies...
Hopefully I wont offend someone or make someone angry about my questions.
1. you are probably talking about this app:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=487677
it is called fingerkeyboard 2.1 and it is great.
2. yes, you can install it to the BA, just pick the QVGA cab installer.
the screen (size/) resolution is very important for apps like this, because, it wants to bring you bigger keys, so you can control the soft keyboard with your fingers, on the other hand, it needs practically all the keys, the small soft keyboard has, without being too big, so you couldn't see the rest of the screen, hard to find a good way to do that, but fingerkeyboard2 is a good program doing all of that (in he 2.1 version). in case you were wondering, the BA's screen is QVGA, meaning 240*320, in contrast to VGA, 480*640 and WVGA 480*800.
3. i am using i as my default keyboard, too. there are different ways to set this as default, tweak programs, registry changes... but the easiest way to do so is, to install SIP change, pick fingerkeyb as default, and set the timeout to 50seconds, meaning, whenever you soft reset your device, sip change will start and set fingerkeyb as default, and after 50sec. the program quits, because then it is definitely set.
installing both apps isn't hard, just 2 cab files you copy to your device. fingerkeyb needs a bit of configuration to match your country's layout and other things like sound, vibrate, auto-correction, but it is self-expainatory, plus you will find a lot of help in that particular thread, so look it up, install it, have fun.
P.S. i forgot to mention the 2 biggest advantages: it is (in contrast to SPB keyboard) FREE & SMALL in installation size.
