Question Weird connection issues affecting many apps - Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra

I've been trying to figure out what is causing this strange behavior on my phone but i guess i'm not alone.
The issues:
delayed notification on WiFi/mobile net (i know there is a thread to that, and i know this has been poising every android release for certain phones)
Tidal (Soundcloud, and probably any other music streaming app) connection drop after around 3-4 mins of locking the phone ( seems like mobile data/wifi is disconnecting after a certain minutes when phone locks, causing Tidal to show connection error message and stops streaming music)
Messenger call issue: calling on mobile data/WiFi, if the phone locks, same behavior happens but instantly ( as soon as phone locks, messenger call disconnects, but as soon as i unlock it connects again)
All of these apps have unrestricted battery usage, allowed background data. I think this is a systematic issue around connection dropping when the phone locks. Maybe this is also the cause for notification delay. I'm new to the S21 ultra but not to android, never experienced these issues with any other android phones (not even with my S8) Anyway, if someone has an idea on this i would appreciate it.
Edit: I'm on unrooted, fully stock os (G998BXXU4CVC4), OneUI 4.1, march security patch

You can try:
Clearing the system cache.
Factory reset, if so do not use SmartSwitch
Or a full nuke rollback to 11.

There is no way to go back to 11 because bootloader is newer that it was on 11.

Maybe the fact that I'm always connected to VPN (Mullvad VPN) has something to do with it? (Mullvad app also unrestricted)

Highly likely. Try going without it for a while.

Update for those of you with the same kind of issues: I'm now pretty sure the cause is the VPN. Mullvad is using wireguard, I reached out to them and they recommended to change the MTU 1300 from the default. So far so good with this value, notifications arrive instantly and no connection drops.

Problem accessing Youtube and Play Store

Hi, I desperately need some support as my device refuses to sign in in both Youtube and Play Store. I'm therefore unable to use both these apps. An error message keeps saying I'm offline and proposes to retry, but it simply never works whatever I do.
Issue has been going on since many weeks; I googles and tried many suggestions without any success.
Before I do a hard reset, has anyone an idea what this can be?
The amazing part is that my daughter's tab (Galaxy S2) is also having the same issue since some time! She has her own google account. What the heck is going on?
Thanks!

This may be an bug in the updated version of google play store or YouTube..Have you tried to sign in specific apps usning another google account you have..Also try to clear cached data of phone as well as clear data of those apps* you can also uninstall updates of those apps and force stop or disable them and after enabling again try to access*..Also might be network related issue sometimes weaken network shows such type of errors..Try to acees with high speed wifi or data with maximum signal..Even if problem exist then simply reset is last option for you..

Hi, I tried most of the solutions you're are mentioning, without any success. What I find interesting is what you wrote about weak network. I cancelled my cable connection at home some time back and using instead a 4G modem. Could that really be the culprit, knowing the coverage is medium? It sounds to me strange that such possibility exists, also I often go out and have full 4G network for hours sometimes and still it doesn't work. Interestingly enough, every about once per month it suddenly works, and I'm able to update my apps and also access my account in Youtube. It'll work for 2-3 days, until it's again the same bad. Really boring and would love to understand this issue better so as to possibly fix it. Thank you.

1)It's possible sometimes your networks proxy enforce your google id not to be sign in into specific apps you have mentioned and yes sometimes low network coverage also causes the issues like offline or sign in errors like please check network connection due wireless functionality limitations
2)I am curious about one thing if you have tried almost all the solutions found on google as well as your own, is it that much impossible for you to make backup of your current imp data and give a try to hard reset?? If i am not wrong, please give it a try because sometimes software glitches also causes the app crashes or network errors
3) Next thing sometimes your stock software gets corrupted due to some fatal malwares so many system apps as well as third party apps pretended to show errors like unfortunately process is stopped also some network related issue, so one solution you can try is to re-apply or update your current stock firmware..i.e. if update is unavailable you can fresh install same firmware version again on your phone which most of the times resolves the issue
4) As i mentioned in my first post you should give a try to any high speed mobile network like LTE or 5ghz band Wi-Fi which gives constant access to internet connection which probably help you to figure out exact issue i.e. with modems or connection your using or with your device itseld due to corrupted software
5)Please mention your device model no,country, your mobile network provider information so that it would be easy to figure out your issue
Thank you. Yes, a hard reset could solve it although I'd like to avoid it if possible. I will try ASAP on a solid wifi and see. I forgot to mention an important point: my daughter's tablet (Galaxy S2 pro) has got the same issue, and it started near about the same time like it did to me. She has her own Google ID, and she uses a different set of apps. Will report whenever I can test on a wifi.
My mobile provider is Salt Mobile here in Switzerland, and my Note 5 is a generic one bought in UAE. I run Dr. Ketan rom of about 8 months ago.

1)Ohhhk now i got, i assume you might be using Indian Variant with indian mobile network providers as per your username 'prerna'
so your device might be factory unlocked SM-N920C
2)So you should try on any faster network provider or incase wifi to check if problem is due to weak singal strength or specific with your device software integration
3) And i think you should give a try to dr.ketan's nougat rom which is based on latest nougat firmware which will might help you to overcome your issue as new base, new kernel will help you to get stable connectivity
4)If your running dr.ketans MM 6.0.1 based rom then download latest N5 nougat rom to flash
5)I know u might not new in flashing custom roms ad your running a custom one only from 8 months but once again be sure to enable 'oem unlocking' and 'usb debugging' options from developers option before flashing latest twrp version(Don't worry u can flash dr.ketans rom using any 3.0 twrp version ur running now but if latest version with stability and improvements available for your device then you can install it as per your requirement) if your running old one or before flashing nougat based N5 rom by dr.ketan

App in play store stop downloading after sometimes with mobile data?

Because my mobile data is much faster than my WiFi but there's a problem on my 1908.12 tencent edition.
At first I thought it's because I didn't turn off data limit warning, so I turn it off but it still the same.
I tried download big app (Asphalt 9) and it's about 1.8GB-1.9GB. The other apps which are smaller than 100MB has no problem so far.
The symptom is after around 20%-30% the download bar in notification will disappear and in Play store, the percentage will stuck there. I noticed my 4G+ up and down have no movement since then.
What I've tried so far
-Turn off data limit warning
-Clear cache and data on Play store (app manager)
-Restart
There's a possibility that my phone is not in a great working condition because it's still under cn fingerprint but global rom.
Did anyone has this issue? I'll try WiFi tonight and will update this again.
Honestly I have no ideas but some people complaining their network disappearing and reappearing sometimes and disrupting their operations.
Maybe you get a temporary network flap and the download/update refuses to continue.
Try with only Wi-Fi and see if there's any difference.

Then problem is most likely not from your network but memory.
Try downloading offline apk and installing directly.
Also, since gms was probably installed later, check all Google services and ensure all necessary permissions are allowed

Recent GPS problems

I had posted this over on the Note 8 Verizon board but dont think it is really a Verizon problem but more of a Note 8 problem and might get a better response here.
Just recently over the last couple months, I have been having a problem with getting a good gps signal in programs such as Waze and Google maps. I have done all kinds of searches and many mention to go into settings and in location settings, turn on High Accuracy. That option is bo longer available and not sure if it was eliminated in Pie. I have been doing all the latest updates and believe I am current. The only thing I have been able to find is to go into settings, then Google, and then Account Services and there I found location. The only choices under Improve Accuracy is to turn on Wifi scanning and Bluetooth scanning which I have done. There no longer is a choice of High Accuracy and the ability to turn GPS on or off like I had in previous phones and previous versions of Android. I have even tried turning on High Performance under Battery Power settings and turned off any choices to optimize battery or disable apps. I ended up downloading 2 different GPS apps from Store, GPS Status and GPS Fix/Optimizer. I will normally use Waze or Google maps through Android Auto. I can tell when there is a problem when the position indicator keeps bouncing all over the place in Waze and cant find exactly where I am. When that happens, I will check on GPS Status and it always shows that it is having a problem acquiring the satellite signals. I will then open up GPS Fix/Optimizer and on the home screen, there is a button that will say Service Off. I press it and it will then read Service On. Switching back to GPS Status will now show that it is starting to acquire multiple satellite signals. When I switch back to Waze, now it is able to show my exact location and begins to work properly.
This is driving me nuts. I never had this problem on any other of multiple different phones or Android versions. I can get GPS working but have to jump through all these hoops each time and it sucks. So what other steps can I do to be able to fire up Waze and have it find me right away?
I've had this problem for YEARS on all my Samsung devices running the latest firmware updates and unrooted while connected to a LTE data plan. The issue doesn't affect my other (new) Samsung A30 however. I've always had the latest note series since the Note2, 3, 4, 5, 8.
If I have my Samsung A30 and Note 8 with Google Maps giving me turn by turn directions, my Note 8 (as with my current phones) will stop reporting my location from the very begining of the trip while my Samsung A30 is giving the correct updates. All phones are connected to the same carrier, and same GPS / App settings.
---------- Post added at 08:05 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:01 AM ----------
What is consistent about all my Notes is that I've been using Samsung Smart Switch to transfer over the data from the previous Note to the next. I wonder if I transferred over some corrupt settings somewhere. No GPS app works as it should for me unless I'm connected to WiFi, or restart my device, then it works for a few minutes, then gets "lost" again.

The more I've looked into it, it seems to have occurred following the early Feb update. It also seems to have affected S9 phones and Note 9 and 10 and possibly others after they got the Android 10 update. But it seems to be only a Samsung problem. Samsung, Google, and Verizon are all blaming each other instead of trying to figure out a fix. The biggest issue I see is the lack of control of being able to change the GPS from off to on. Without being able to control the GPS, we are at the mercy of the software to do that and it is obviously failing. The only workaround I have found was what I posted above and utilizing GPS Fix/Optimizer and GPS Status apps, I can get both Waze and Google Maps to work properly. It just bugs me that I have to go through several steps to do this instead of just firing up my navigation app and taking off...
And just to add, I too have used Smart Switch many times before and never had problem. It only started recently. As far as the control for GPS, I'm not sure when that setting was removed. I never paid much attention before because it wasnt necessary. But what I did find curious was that Location setting was buried instead of it being one of the main settings. You really have to dig to find it now...

I have noticed that certain apps like GPS apps require that you reinstall them onto your new device from scratch. As SmartSwitch doesn't seem to transfer the data files corrected to other Samsung devices.

I agree with that but this is not a new device nor have I done any kind of restore or transfer from an old phone in quite a while. All my apps have been fine for over a year now on this Note 8. This only started after the first February "Security" update.

Im pretty sure that's not the case. My Note is still on Android 9 (Pie) which it has been for almost a year now. It has only gotten security and various minor updates but not any kind of OS update. Note 8 will not be getting Android 10, only security updates. I always update Waze and Google maps anytime an update comes out. I usually update all the other apps at least once a week. The GPS apps that I recently downloaded are the only reason that I am able to access and use my GPS through Waze and Google maps.

I've cleared cache, app data, uninstalled all GPS apps, before re-installing in an unsuccessful attempt to resolve the issue.
I even left the Google Maps "beta testing programme" thinking that a beta copy of the app might have been the issue.

Download the 2 apps I mentioned and run them. You may have to do that every time before using Google Maps but it should get you working. It's just aggravating to have to go through several steps when I should be able to open the main app I want and have it work.
Something weird just happened. I know that a couple days ago to find the location setting, I had to go to settings, Google, Account Services, and I found location there. Tonight just messing around, I noticed that it is no longer there. Instead, it is now found under settings, and then Biometrics and Security. It is down towards the bottom. Not sure how this happened as I have not received any kind of system updates. Also GPS Status app seems to just run in the background. When I open up Waze, it seems to find my location right away. I will have to keep monitoring this and see if the problem has actually been worked out.

I've already done this from even before this thread was created, but as you said, it is frustrating for me to have to do this every 10 or so minutes, as GPS stops working quite frequently on my Note 8. GPS was fine with the bone-stock firmware out of the box.

Yes, and yes. 10 minutes later, GPS stops working. It works great if I'm driving past WiFi, however.
I can stream YouTube continuously, so I know my LTE connection is active.

Hey Mikey,
I've noticed that it has improved, but definitely not resolved.
I'm wondering if a factory reset will revert all software updates? I have an appointment tomorrow at the samsung store, and they are going to factory reset and install the most recent software update via their system rather than an OTA which builds upon other updates. I'm backing up my phone now... which in itself is a pain. If not, I did try the GPS fix and the other GPS software, but I did not try them concurrently together, as I found GPS fix to work better. Ultimately though, I didn't think it helped by itself.

No.
I'm bumping this back up to the top. One thing I have noticed is that if I haven't used any location type apps such as google maps or Waze in a while and then open up Android Auto in my Chevy, I have a 50/50 shot of the gps actually working. Actually probably less although occasionally it will work right away. When it doesnt, I have to pull the cord out of the phone disconnecting the Chevy from My Note 8 and even if I only open up Waze or google maps after that, it will still not be able to locate my exact position. When this happens, I have opened up GPS status app and the phone gps is definitely not working. I will then open up GPS fix/optimizer and in the bottom left of the home screen, I will toggle the Service Off to Service On. Checking back with GPS Status, within a couple seconds, it shows that the GPS is now working. I can then plug my phone back into my Chevy and Android Auto with either Waze or Google Maps will be working fine for as long as I'm using it.
I originally thought it was a Samsung software issue. Now I'm starting to wonder. If I use Waze or Google Maps as standalone, they seem to work most of the time. It seems to happen mostly using Android Auto first which then opens the navigation software and if I haven't used any apps that call for location recently. I'm stumped...
Looks like I may be on the right track and Android Auto could be the cause of my issues: https://support.google.com/androidauto/thread/17860576
I also found some other info that Adaptive Battery and battery optimization might also have something to do with it. I turned off adaptive battery by going into settings, then device care, then clicked on the battery icon. There are 3 dots in upper right which let you into battery settings. You can turn off adaptive battery there. Next, I went into settings, then apps, and first selected Android Auto. I clicked on the battery choice and then optimize battery usage. There in the top left, I switched from apps not optimized to all. From there I then found Android Auto and turned it off. I then while ein same screen turned off optimization for Maps and Waze. Unfortunately I dont drive that often and now with the VID, I am driving even less so it may be a while before I can verify that this worked.
An update to this. I reached out to the sub forum for Android Auto over on Google Support and got semi confirmation that the problem could actually be coming from Android Auto. One of the explanations given had something to do with Android Auto trying to get info from the vehicles gps device to make it more accurate but it may have problems communicating with the vehicle gps system. I do not have a dedicated navigation in my vehicle so not sure what it is trying to actually connect to so this could partially explain the problem. Why Android Auto would need to connect to any gps device in vehicle is beyond me because for years, my phones have always relied on the in phone GPS and have worked just fine. Here is that thread:
https://support.google.com/androidauto/thread/45792804?hl=en
So I'm having the same issue on an unbranded note 8. But I'm not using android auto. I can use gps tools and it holds a lock fine. But if additional programs are launched, waze, maps, jbv1 I lose lock.

No notifications while using mobile internet.

I bought a pixel 5 to do courier work, I just needed something reliable with good battery life to run GPS and a handful of delivery apps.
Since the day I bought it I have had problems with notifications on mobile internet, for the most part I don't get any for any apps until I connect to wifi, then they all come flooding through at once.
I have tried every fix ive come across, changing from 5g to 3g, installing a heartbeat fixer app, changing background battery and data settings. Sometimes they seem to work, sometimes restarting the phone works but nothing sticks. I have spent hours talking to google support, they have made me factory reset 3 times, it normally fixes it at first, but last time it didn't and even with a completely fresh OS I wasn't getting any notifications on mobile internet, I tested by emailing my gmail account before installing any more than the default apps.
I should note that I have a strong internet connection the entire time, If i open gmail and refresh it the emails are there, I just don't get notifications for them until I connect to wifi.
The lack of notifications breaks a lot of apps as it seems they rely on the notifications or whatever protocol they use to work. The big issue for me is one of the courier app will give me no runs unless notifications are working.
Anyone have any ideas? I'll happily paypal anyone who can suggest a permanent fix $50 lol, if not I'll have to buy a different phone.

Sounds like you have a lemon on your hands.
I don't suppose you're using a VPN? I've had all sorts of strange issues with notifications and using a VPN as when the phone goes to sleep it can disconnect you from the network.
Or apps like Netguard where you can set apps to connect to either the wifi or mobile network or restrict them.
If you have no apps installed that can restrict your network usage then it seems your phone might have a problem.
No, even straight after a factory wipe, no notifications, that seemed to coincide with the latest pixel update a few days ago because nothing I tried would get it to work which is why I factory reset and for the first time it wasnt working after the factory reset either.

I don't suppose it's something simple as...
I sent myself some emails and used the "find my device" in order to cause some notifications, as you can see on the video, nothing comes through until I connect to wifi.

Have you tried a different provider, a friends sim card? It may be incompatible with the P5. There was a problem in USA with Mintmobile and the P5 but Google fixed it. Which service provider do you use?

Question S21 Ultra (US AT&T) Recurring Odd Connectivity Issues

Not even sure where to start or how to properly articulate my problem, but here goes...
My S21 Ultra (AT&T) is most often connected to my home network which is Verizon FiOS with Verizon Extenders in SON (self-organizing network) configuration. Wi-Fi Calling is enabled as is Bluetooth and mobile data. Link to Windows is enabled and I use the Microsoft Your Phone app on my Win10 laptop regularly.
On a daily basis, I will encounter ant/all of the following problems:
1) SMS Text and/or MMS messages may not send. Says "Sending..." and then times out with Message Not Sent error.
2) Leave house, get in car, fire up Waze, get "Searching network..." error
3) Leave house, attempt to use mobile data for browser or apps, and get connection error of one type or another
In almost all cases, I can resolve the problem by enabling and then disabling Airplane Mode. This has worked consistently to fix the Waze issue and generally resolves the other issues when they occur.
Very frustrating and NEVER happened with my previous S10+ which I upgraded from.
Thoughts on what I should be looking for? Don't want to randomly do things like factory reset, hoping someone may have found a specific solution.
Thanks!
For starters...
Clear system cache
Reset network settings
Sim card tool kit, clear data
If you updated to a new Android OS version, a factory reset is recommended.
Otherwise unless infected or an old load, a factory reset is counter productive.
Find the root cause or it's likely to happen again after a factory reset
Get advance tech support from AT&T, sometimes they really know what they're doing.
Samsung tech support is worthless.
Cleared system cache & reset network settings (sadly losing all saved BT device connections and WiFi info) but still have issues. Phone came with current OS. Was hoping to not have to call AT&T given how nebulous my problems are.

Not sure what that means, where to find it, or what the impact is... Can you please add some color?
have you contacted the carrier? swap the SIM maybe?
you can also submit an error report via samsung members app

Settings>apps
No impact, the data refreshes its self.

Thanks. Did the clear data on the SIM toolkit.
Should Mobile Network State (in SIM card status) say Disconnected?

If you play with Androids long enough you'll bump into the solution eventaully.

I sure hope so. I've been on Android since the Droid Incredible days but never have experienced this sort of behavior and it is maddening.
i have your same texting issue sporadically. seems to always happen when i am at work, sometimes turning airplane mode off and on real quick fixes it, other times i have to to do it several times....and like you i have had quite a few sammys not to mention lots of other brands and never had this problem....

Make sure power management is not active. It will cause all kinds of annoying and erratic behaviors.
Developer options>Standby apps, all buckets should show as active if not power management is enabled. You can't fix it here, go to Device Care and untoggle it. The only thing that should be toggled on is fast charging.
Power mode should be set to Optimized or higher.
Make sure the related apks and their dependencies are set to allow background data and battery use.
Generally Android manages its self quit well without this junk. They're just more bad ideas from Gookill that will screw up your device

Who is your carrier? I'm on AT&T and had WiFI Calling enabled. For the time being, I have disabled it to see if problems go away.

If you have an unlimited plan just keep it on mobile. It's more secure anyway.
I keep wifi disabled always. That's an easy way to block Playstore auto updates

Also, are you using Google One VPN by chance?

Not a solution. I need the WiFi speeds and use in areas with poor connectivity.

I stay away from Gookill as much as possible.
Karma Firewall is a freeware VNP firewall that uses almost no battery... I use that.

Disable all power management including adaptive battery etc.
Then clear the sim card tool kit data, then a network reset and finally clear the system cache on the boot menu.
Consider disabling all the AT&T bloatware except for maybe messages (which works well), none of it is needed.
Disable carrier, Google and Samsung feedback.
Disable all cloud crap unless you use it, Google Backup Transport/Framework are prime offenders.
Disable Google Firebase.
