Hi I have a xperia z5 compact and i have an issue that happens when I use spotify or google play music on android auto where once I disconnect and then reconnect my phone to the android auto headunit (pioneer 8750nex aka 4100) the sound will play through my phones speakers instead of my cars speakers, I've found that once I go into apps and stop the google play music or spotify app then it will work again, but why is this? is there a fix, I have just updated to 1.4 and the issue is still present, if you however dont listen to music and just use navigation and maybe just listen to the radio you generally wont have any issues. There is another person I saw post on spotify forums the same issue so its not my devices its an issue with android auto.

In my Skoda Octavia no problems. Works very well with android auto 1.4 and Sony Xperia Z3.
I don't know if google reads these forums or what, but just yesterday there was an update for android auto that appears to fix the issue so you can keep disconnecting and reconnecting the phone from your car head unit and the music will still play out of the car speakers HOWEVER this is only with google play music the issue is still present with spotify

Same issues here with my Xperia Z5 Compact and Pioneer AVH-X8700BT. I found out another workaround: When sound comes out of your phones speakers, unplug phone -> go to settings and disable bluetooth (was auto enabled when connecting via AA, but it says "Connected(no media)") -> enable bluetooth (you will notice that "Connected(no media)" will disappear) -> plug phone and voilà, Spotify works...problem is, when using Google Voice Search, the connection goes back to that state described by you... The only way to really get it to work as expected, is to reboot your phone.
is it an issue with the pioneer units or android auto itself? as ive tried android auto on other phones using the pioneer 8750 and they also have the same issue
Hi all,
The same headphones which used to work perfectly with my Huawei Honor 8 stutter upon Bluetooth music playback to the point of unusuable. It's the kind of stuttering like there's a poor connection/bandwidth issue between the phone and the headphones. It's similar to what happened on my Huawei Honor 8 when I was washing my car and ducked my head under the car
Tried multiple apps:
Google Play Music
Youtube
Youtube Music
Amazon Music
EDIT: ONLY my Philips SHB4405 headphones suffer! Tried different bluetooth devices to eliminate the headphones, same stutter.
Tried setting the special access to the battery use: "Settings", search for "Special access". Select "Ignore battery optimisation". Make sure "All apps" are shown. Select the app you want and set it to "Allow (May drain your battery more quickly)"
Tried setting Battery settings of the app to manage manually then Auto launch, Secondary Launch and Run in background all toggled on.
Any ideas please?
It is likely their hyper-aggressive battery management software, which there seems to be no way to remove.
You may try to go to development mode menu and play around with the BT audio bit rates and codexs. Or, just take it back to the shop and exchange it for a new one.

I'm using my phone with two BT device, one is a Jabra device I have in my car, the other one is the Backbeat fit from Plantronics. Honestly say BT communication works very well. EMUI 8.1.0.161 (C432)
Any update available for download?

funnily enough I did have an update apply yesterday but it didn't fix this behaviour. EMUI 8.1.0.159 (C782)
I have an update to my OP though. The bluetooth music streaming actually works perfectly on every bluetooth audio device I have (Radio, AV receiver, 2 x car stereos, bluetooth speaker, another set of bluetooth headphones) so I can only assume that the Huawei P20 Pro is incompatible with the Philips SHB4405 headphones! sounds bizarre to say it but that's my experience!
Bluetooth codec fix
I fixed this on my Honor 8x by changing the bluetooth codec used in the developer settings.
1. Enable developer settings
2. Change the "Bluetooth audio codec" setting value from "aptX" to "SBC"
Hi mate, check the supported codecs on your headsets. Enable developer options in Settings and force SBC codec.
Has the latest 9.0 solved your Bluetooth problem?
I have the same issue with Bose and Jabra headsets... Cheap chinese BT headsets Line taotronic seems to works fine.. I have given up trying to figure out the cause... Thing is I love the p20 Pro but this BT problem is really annoying!

Hi Guys,
I have a P20 and I love it, but had the BT audio stuttering problem in my car for a while - the radio is fine, my gf's Samsung can stream to it no problem.
9.0 didn't help, the problem persisted until... I changed the display sleep time to 10 minutes and forgot about it.
So after some testing I can 100% confirm that the stuttering happends only when the screen is off.
When I drive with the screen on, the BT music streaming works great. When I turn off the display - within minutes the stuttering starts. Turn on screen again - no stuttering.
Test it.
Happens on my Mate 10 only when screen is off. I already removed PowerGenius and had set battery optimization off to my music app. This is so annoyingly frustrating. Any solution yet?
I think I have the same or a similar issue using Beoplay H9. Changing codec to manual SBC or AAC does not work, but SBC is noticably better.
Closing all open apps or restarting bluetooth often works, but restarting the phone completely alleviates the problem. After an hour or two the problem appears again.

Can you check if the headphones are paired to anything else in the vicinity? Like a tablet or other phone? May be the problem..
Also the codecs in use make a difference too, can be altered in Dev options.
I had problems with calls with a very expensive pair of plantronics on my phone, the v6200's £275 when they were released lol.
Base didn't make a difference either Oreo all the way up to 9.1, in fact it was better on Oreo.
Doesn't affect everyone in the same way.
Paired to stuff yes but I can take them out of the question by wandering away from any of the devices for a 1-2 mile walk
Still experiencing this same problem on EMUI 9.1, even after disabling battery optimization in all music apps.
This worked for me - turn off 'Always on Display'
I was getting brief but regular strutters with my bluetooth headphones (Marley Positive Vibrations 2) but only when the p20 pro was put in my jeans pocket, so walking the dog while listening to Spotify was a pretty glitchy affair. At first I assumed being inside the pocket was degrading the bluetooth signal strength but I recently noticed that whenever the phone sensed it was inside my pocket (or in a pitch black room) it was turning off 'Always on Display' to save battery, so wondered if this was affecting the bluetooth audio connection (especially as people already suggested it was related to either display settings or battery saving options).
I disabled 'Always on Display' and this stuttering problem has been completely resolved for me (EMUI 9.1).
@theToots
Where to find the option 'Always on Display'
edit:
Found
I have this same Issue using a P20 Pro and Sennheiser HD 4.50 btnc.
This annoying audio stuttering started happening only after a software update (EMUI 9.1.0.361).
A fix that works for me is to turn my location off.
Was wondering if anyone else had this issue, in my Audi using Bluetooth the music will play but I can't skip tracks using my card controls until I skip tracks manually on my phone, only after that can I change using my cars controls, ive been using Samsung since s5 and never had this issue, any ideas?

I have recently experienced that too. I noticed this problem when I updated the Samsung buds to the latest firmware. The first problem I noticed was that when the update finished it disconnected my Galaxy watch and made me reset it. I will do a factory reset on my phone and hopefully, that helps it.
Try to lower the AVRCP version in Developer settings in the Bluetooth section. Worked on my '13 Seat Ibiza with a portable Garmin system. After set it to 1.3, turn bluetooth off and on again.
If the AVRCP, which is set to 1.4 by factory, is too high, the music playback works mostly, but things like music controls and title information not.
I set it to 1.3 and it works for me now. I don't know if new devices are backward compatible, especially the Galaxy Buds.
Btw, I had similar issues with my old Huawei P10 on Android 8.0 (EMUI8). Google didn't implement the option to change the AVRCP version so I couldn't use my phone on the cars at work or rental cars - mostly VW and Mercedes.
I thought it was a hardware issue, but then I installed a 8.1 rom, where this option was enabled and from then it worked.
And with my iPhone 6S worked everything great 3 years ago under iOS9. 3 weeks ago I needed to use it again, updated to iOS 12 and it didn't work at all with my cars system. In iOS you don't have the ability to change the AVRCP version, so I guess Apple wants you to buy a new car, as Huawei does with EMUI8.
Hello,
I have a Samsung A52s 5G with Android 11 and i'm using Android Auto wirelessly on a Kia Infotainment.
The problem is that I get random mini skips (like old scratched CD), usually a couple of times for every song.
I've tried till now to remove battery optimization for both Spotify and Android Auto but no success... Any ideas?
PS: My old phone with only cabled AA has no problems.
I have same problem.
On cable it woks good.
But in wireless i have spotify microstuttering with my Samsung A52s 5g a Hyundai i30.
Currently on Android 11 with Android Auto v 7.0.614134 and V4A v 2.7.1.6. When connected via bluetooth music is processed via V4A and sounds fantastic. When connected with Android Auto via USB, music does not get processed via V4A even though there is a USB setting in V4A. Music also does not get processed via the Speaker tab, which it defaults to when plugged in with Android Auto. I have researched this extensively and found it's a limitation for whatever reason. Also odd that I can't find any recent topics on it. The newest discussions are from 2019 to mid 2020.
I have tried disabling USB audio routing in Developer Settings to no avail. My solution is to use the EQ settings on Rocket Player to compensate, and it helps...but it's not the same as V4A.
However, I read somewhere that Android 12 "fixed" this issue. Or perhaps I misunderstood what I read. Any any case, can anyone on Android 12 using V4A and Android Auto confirm if audio is processed with V4A while connected to AA? FWIW, I have a PIxel 4a 5G and have been putting off the upgrade to 12 (hate setting up phones) but if A12 will "fix" this issue I will bite the bullet.
Thanks!
I accidentally stumbled for a solution to this just a few days ago.
If you check the "disable bluetooth auto connect" from AA AIO tweaker, v4a works with android auto too. Atleast in my case, i use AAwireless but i dont think it has anything to do with it.
Im on Android 10 and rooted stock oneplus 7 pro, and v4a wont work without the aa aio

Thanks! I tried AA AIO Tweaker but, unfortunately, it did not work for/with V4A. I did use it to tweak other aspects of AA though, so it is still a useful app.
Part 1
I have gotten v4a to work with Android Auto. In settings I toggled on BOTH "Attach audio effects (All sessions but 0)" and "Compatibility mode". The sound enhancements, unfortunately, come thru the "Speaker" settings...but it's better than nothing.
Part 2
I have experimented more with v4a and Android Auto. On the phone in Developer Settings I toggled on "Disable USB audio routing". I kept v4a settings toggled on for "Attach audio effects" & "Compatibility mode". I then connected to Android Auto and voila...v4a was processing through the bluetooth settings. I was able to tweak settings and could hear the differences. It was definitely processed via bluetooth settings. This worked for Spotify & Musicolet. When I tried Muzecast , v4a didn't process any audio tweaks. Nor does it work for TuneIn Radio or Audacy.
What's weird though, is now Spotify and Musicolet have reverted back to processing thru the "Speaker" settings - not bluetooth anymore. Even after rebooting the phone and re-starting the car.
Not sure why the bluetooth settings don't process any longer when connected to Android Auto, and why some apps don't work while others do. Very weird.
FWIW - v4a does process bluetooth settings for all apps when connected solely to the car's bluetooth WITHOUT Android Auto, but I have to disable v4a setting "Attach audio effects".
Just to give a final update...
I re-read the post by Limpperi and re-checked "Disable Bluetooth Auto Connect". The v4a settings I mentioned above remain the same. Now after I connect to Android Auto I need to manually turn on bluetooth from the phone, but I have been successfully getting music processed through v4a bluetooth settings. Spotify and Musicolet work perfectly this way. Muzecast does not process thru v4a until I disable "Attach audio effects". Audacy and TuneIn Radio do not process thru v4a no matter what settings I try...but I don't use those much in the car. They're more like a back-up for if I travel out of state and want to listen to my local stations.
I still don't know why some apps work this way and other don't. They all work as intended when I simply connect to a bluetooth speaker or ear-buds but not Android Auto.
If you don't have AA AIO Tweaker installed you MAY be able to achieve the same results by simply going into the Android Auto app on the phone and disabling "Use Bluetooth". However, I have not experimented with that so it may or may not work as intended...but I don't see why it wouldn't.
Hope this helps someone.
