hi, that is the question.
Would you buy the DIAMOND again if you know you can't use the data transfer under the 3G technology??? is it worth the us$500 or eur450????
I dont really care about 3g when wifi is so readily available.
3g doesn't add any functionality to anything. its really nothing! ok, i waited 10 more seconds for some web page to load, but who cares! wifi is all over the place anyway. its way cooler stealing wifi then giving cell companys business! at the same time ill never buy a phone thats not 3g lol
for me 3G is essential as I use my Diamond extensively on Telstra's 850Mhz 3G network, and I can get far better coverage in regional parts of Australia. 3G is also essential for me as I use my Diamond as an external modem connected to my laptop. I could not imagine trying to use the internet at dialup speeds!! (or not at all due to lack of coverage)

3G is a masssive bonus, especially when dealing with moving large files or for video calls. web pages are not so important.
As for stealing WIFI i think there is a strong moral question about doing that, especially as there are still people who are charge by the amount of data they use. Would you pick their pockets?
Thankfully most of the wifi spots i see people are wise enough to use WPA encryption. But still some people are relying on nothing or just WEP
in france we are massively under H (or a 3.5g or 3g+) so we don't care about 3g it's only when we goes to foreign country... but funny things there is a lack of wifi spot here
I'd buy it (again - my Touch Pro that is) in a second.
We do have quite spread UMTS and not bad HSPA and even some hot spots, but all these are just things "outside" the device; and the device rulez.
3g great...but
must turn off where overseas
don't want a big bill waiting for when i get home
I don't much care for the 3G, it's a nice bonus but it's not the reason I bought the Diamond.
The Diamond is the perfect phone for me (especially after I found this place and was able to upgrade the software tremendously) and I would certainly buy it again.
My biggest complaint in that the screen is so easily scratched. I hate using screen protectors and never really had a problem with scratches on my previous touch screen (Treo 700wx) like I do now. But minor issues as far as I'm concerned. I definitley don't have a problem with the battery as many others do, as I've become quite accustomed to carrying spare batteries since I use my devices quite a bit.
Good phone, even better tech support (here). How can you go wrong?
3G is a must!!! Still waiting over here in the U.S.
hi
3g isn't a a must, if you want to brows the internet get a computer, but for some people who work out in the field and needs Internet service then sure 3G is fun, but other wise than browsing the Internet you don't really need it, but for someone who is one of those emo Internet people myspace youtube what not, that its for u.
The answer depends on where you live as well as what you use your phone for.
In UK (and most of Western Europe) we have very good 3G and even 3.5G networks that can give us mobile broadband at very good speeds - not up to best wired speeds but getting close. You can really notice the difference between that and slow old GPRS when downloading emails or surfing the real web (rather than just WAP).
On the other hand in the UK free wifi spots are few and far between - most require some sort of payment or subscription - Holiday Inn hotels for example want £15 per day, and Hilton are £10! And most private companies (and households like mine) that use wifi lock their access so you can't park outside and piggy back.
Because there has been so much investment in these new technologies they are being pushed hard by the phone companies and many contracts for phones now come with "free" bundled data access. My HTC comes with "unlimited" downloads (sunbject as always to a fair use policy that I have never got near).
I understand that in other parts of the world including the US the roll out of this sort of technology is less advanced, and so the arguments for having 3G are less convincing at the moment.
I would not have bought the Diamond without 3G. 3G(Hdspa) is an absolutley must!
/How do I change my country settings? I've changed it...
3g is the s**t lol
i gotta say once you use 3G (HSDPA) you will never go back, most if the time i don't even bother connecting to WIFI coz there is honestly hardly any speed difference if you have good reception (and i have unlimited data plan).
Luckily i live the the UK and with orange we have decent coverage and the speed is increasing over the next year of so
COLOMBIA
HI, i live in BOGOTA/COLOMBIA/SOUTH AMERICA
and here the mobile carrier use 850 band (3g) so that is why i am wondering if the diamond's worth the money if I can't use all the stuff on it, like the 3G speed...
Well I bought my Diamond (european version) not knowing that 3G wouldn't work in the US. Despite that, It was going in for some repairs at HTC America with Canada post and somehow, the phone got "lost" (yeah right).
So now, I'm getting back my insurance money and I will most probably buy another Diamond not taking into consideration weather 3G works or not.

purchase a Telstra DIAM130 one from Australia and it will have 850Mhz 3G
3g or 2g
I'm in the camp of MUST have 3g, in AU with telstra and all prior htc phones have had 3g BUT I went and grabbed a Diamond 100 a while back BEFORE we all really knew about the different models being hardware (bands) different so long story short I've got 2g only and it sucks big time.
Reception outside of metro very average, data s l o w ..no video callls and
I live in the country area, even chucked my sim card into my wifes old motorola v3xx., Yea pink as well........
I am using the Diamond as I like the phone/features
I'm looking to buy a 3g Diamond or renew/upgrade my plan due next month.
Then the hardly used Diamond100 will hit ebay and thats it.
(Unless someone in AU is looking to swap as Diam100 works on Optus/Voda etc, but not telstra)
So if your provider is going to get compatible phones then wait, otherwise like driving a v8 in first gear.
Firstly, when I'm not using wifi my internet seems awefully slow. I try and use it when the signal is on G and about 2 or 3 bars, but it takes forever to load pages. It also takes ages to load the facebook news feed. Any ideas?
I have heard about ICS, but I don't know if my phone is actually running this. How do I find out?
Lastly, what is LTE? What does it stand for? Does it make the phone any better? How do I find out if my note is the LTE version?
Yes, you have only got 2.5G, not a 3G/HSPA signal. Check your phone network settings to ensure your mode is set to AUTO and not GSM only. Check your manual.
As for LTE, google is your best friend.
I have found out that LTE stands for long term evolution, but how do I know if my phone is the LTE version?

This what LTE stands for
http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/4G
Since you don't know what LTE is, I would assume you don't have it at your locale, i.e. there is no point knowing whether your Note supports it or not, am I right?

You've used 'i.e.' where you should have actually used 'therefore.' Let's not try and be clever. All I wanted to know was if my phone was the LTE version. It is quite a simple question.
Maybe there is no point in me knowing, but I am just interested. Your comment was of no use.

The LTE version is the I717 model, not the N7000, which is the international HSPA version.
Did you get your connectivity speed back up to 3G?
Hi Joe
So are there any I717 models issued in the UK or is it mainly for other countries?
Well I have done, yes, but even with H signal (which I think is 3G?) my internet is still very slow on some websites. Just for example, it took a good 5 minutes to try and load the xda forums yesterday.
With wifi on everything is super fast and after doing a speed test I think it achieved 9mbps, but with 3G it only managed 1mbps.
Just another point. I used to use my iPhone as a hotspot and the speed of the internet on my laptop was really fast, I think it was running at around 5mbps.
This just seems a bit strange. It's almost as if something isn't working properly.
Bump.

Can you create a hotspot with the Note & check the browsing speed?
It's been going on now for 3 or 4 months almost as long as I've had my note 4.. I live in Colorado, and speeds here are absolutely dreadful. U average -1MBps Download and -2MBps upload speeds. I've contacted tmobile retarded customer service. And they tell me " oh, 1 to 2Megz it's LTE, it's NORMAL". bullsht how you going to tell me it's "normal" when people are getting 30...40. ..even 60 MPBS. I rooted my phone days ago. And can't settle on a ROM fast enough. I'm on hyper drive and I'm not going to blame the Dev here because it's tmobiles pea-brain monkeys trying to help me reset my connection. I've went into my APN noticed my MMSC was missing. so I've messed with my APN settings, but still have tmobiles bad speeds. There BAD. And calling tmobile won't solve a damn thing. Seriously thinking about moving to Verizon. More money but you get what you pay for. And I want UNLIMITED 4G LTE speeds what's the point of paying that extra $20 a month If I don't even use 5 GB? With this slow ass network. Flashing a ROM has helped a lot. But still have those dreadful speeds it's driving me nuts! !! Can anyone hint me some suggestions as to what I can personally try???
Are you on Nk4 baseband??? (Modem) is there any other tmobile users in your area that can vouch for the bad speeds your describing? Only problem with verizon or att is locked bootloaders.. unless you get verizons N4 developers edition
Ask someone who uses tmobile smartphone to check their lte speed at your location. If it is significantly faster than yours - put your sim card in friend's phone and his card in your note 4. If friends phone still much faster than yours - likely note 4 is defective. If friends phone runs much slower with your sim card - faulty sim card or your's account settings on tmobile side.

On NK4 baseband. Took the official OTA . I would try what derekz suggest. It would give me a good idea what's wrong. Thanks man!
Maybe it's just the area your doing the speedtest? I know in my room I get 1 or less than 1 mbps but when I go to the living room I get 9+ mbps on lte
okay so I have the AT&T variant of the galaxy s6 but I'm currently using cricket service and the service is great but I used my data cap limit and we all know how terrible those speeds are. I was wondering is there any way to speed up my network even a little bit I would greatly appreciate the input, I put my phone info here if that would help any(no I don't have wifi)
We know how much you like to stream, ahem, "videos", and so cellular data is mega-important. Rate this thread to express how you think the OnePlus 5T's LTE performs. A higher rating indicates that it's fantastic: throughput is excellent and signal strength is top-notch.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add.
I'm seeing reports of 3g only with unlocked 5T. And if you use your previous device SIM card its IME will allow LTE but that's kind of defrauding. So you use another SIM's IME and AT&T catches or or disagrees and blockes the methos and your 5T is past the 15 days return? Not me.

seems to me like an AT&T problem, NOT a OnePlus problem. Cell service on the 5T (and the 5) has been very, very good for me. After my experience with the Nextbit Robin's horribly tuned radio, the 5T really has me impressed.
Overall performance has been very good. Signal strength has been consistent without any hiccups. I live an a sort of not-very-high-density metropolitan area in the US that's well-covered by T-Mobile. I've seen speedtests in the 60-120 Mbps download and 10-20 Mbps upload range, on SIMs from two different T-Mobile MVNOs. That's pretty much the same as I saw on the N5X my OP5T replaced.
Dual SIM support
Love the dual SIM support.
Primary SIM 1 - T-Mobile
I have no complaints, I have been a customer with them for about 17 years. Connection is great in my Area (43.27down / 6.58up). I often travel by car between NM,CO,AZ, and TX and never have any connectivity issues. I also travel at least a few times a year between NV, MN, TN, and LA for work and never have any connectivity issues
Secondary SIM 2 - Verizon
I have heard there are problems with Verizon compatibility. My job provides me with a work phone...and I refuse to carry two different devices. On the lock screen, SIM 2 shows up as "31000" due to the missing LTE 13 band. The phone still makes/receives calls and SMS messages just fine in all the same areas that my primary SIM ...which is what I really need it for. When I switch my data to the Verizon SIM, I usually still have good connectivity despite the missing band (22.89down / 6.00up). While my area seems to work just fine on the 2 and 4 LTE bands...just know that your mileage may vary.
On a side note, I am an avid shooter and compete both IDPA and Three Gun. I spend a lot of time training at the gun range, which is out in the middle of nowhere. I never have T-Mobile service out at the range, but always have Verizon service. As you can imagine, its essential to have some form of communication when you are out in the middle of nowhere with firearms.
TMO never claimed to cover the entire country - until now. With the 600MHz addition though (Band 71 - which the 5T doesn't do), you might see TMO coverage out at the range with your next device.
Xnn
Is there anyway to squeeze a little more signal out of the device at work everyone around me has service Android and iPhone but I have no cell signal
It looks fine here for me, no worries yet.

How are people finding mobile reception in general on this phone? I have the 5, and the reception is very poor, always missing alls. Never had the issue on the 1.
Also poor here not getting 4g at work ,used to on mate 9
Yes. 3G and 2G are good but 4G is a little bit worse.
Also i must use "LTE Only" which don't support Voice calls at all. Phone just can't switch to 4G even in the city...
