My screen turns on every time a message arrives, how do I stop this?
Additionally, when I drag the lock screen up, the message text appears. How do I stop this to ensure privacy?

There is a setting to control if the text of the message is shown or not:
Settings->Moto->Display->More Privacy.
You can also turn off the notification display by unchecking "Moto Display" on the same screen.
I dont have this phone but my boyfriend does. His phone kept lighting up but wen i lookd at it, it didnt show anything on the screen or notification bar. And wen i turnd the screen off it stopped blinking. What could it possibly be?

Hi,
I am using Moto X 2nd gen. from 6 months now and I just love it. However, there is one small thing that I keep wondering whether it is only with me or is it a bug or something.
I am running Android 5.0 and using the active display feature. When I tap the on screen lock/unlock icon, the unlock icon that goes to the bottom still shows as closed lock. It does not show as "unlocked" lock when I drag it down to unlock the phone.
I have already tried booting in safe mode and then back to normal mode again, but it does not work.
Is this a known issue, or is it just happening with me?
Thank you.
If in Active display if u hit the lock icon, at the bottom the lock is unlocked in the circle.
so by dragging you are moving from lock to unlock

Yes, that's what I was expecting but it was not happening.
By the way, I have got hold of it. It was showing as "locked" in circle when I dragged down because I am using a Pattern unlock security. So when I drag it down, it shows that my device has still got to be unlocked by using the Pattern. When I change the screen lock security to None, I can see the icon change to "unlocked" in the circle when I drag down.
Thanks to Motorola support member for suggesting this.
I hope this thread helps anyone else who is getting bugged by this.
After upgrading to Lineage OS 15.1, I realize that if I have screen lock set to pattern, then it is extremely hard to unlock when the screen has been off for a while. The screen will stay black while when I'm holding power button the phone will vibrate as if I'm calling power menu. This black screen can last at least one minute. I also set long press to open flashlight when screen is off and that doesn't work. Those symptoms makes me believe that the phone is awake, yet for some reason can't get GUI rendering. Sometimes even when I enter the correct pattern and the animation moves dots and timer away, I can still draw unlock pattern on the hiding unlock dots, and phone will vibrate in a very laggy manner.
Currently I'm running with no screen lock as even "swipe" still cause the unlock process to be very painful. Is this a known issue for LOS or is there a way to fix it? I saw a post says the battery should be replaced if phone is laggy. Is that a possible cause?

This isn't a known problem.
From what did you upgrade?
Which build are you using?
Did you do a clean install?
Which gapps are you using.
Do you have Expanded Desktop enabled?

I was using Stock Android before, but I fully wiped everything before I install.
15.1-20180508-NIGHTLY-shamu
Yes.
I got my GApps from Open GApps, but didn't remember which variant but most likely nano.
I actually have this enabled. I'm gonna disable it and see how that works.
After turning off Expanded Desktop the issue seems to be gone. Though when turned on again after some times the lag is still somewhat exist.
there's a Xposed module fix for this http://repo.xposed.info/module/fr.merams.r.deepscreenoreo
Summary: is it normal for the unlocked lockscreen to never appear? I only get the locked one. If I turn off the screen and turn it on before the lock timeout, it's at the last app instead of at an unguarded/soft lockscreen.
Details:
Every other Android phone I've used has a separate display timeout and lock timeout. Meaning, if the display turns on before the lock timeout, there is an unlocked lockscreen (that you can just swipe away). It doesn't actually lock until the lock timeout.
But this phone....only ever gets the lockscreen after the lock timeout. If the display tuns on before the lock timeout, it's already unlocked and in an app. You can sort of get around this is by enabling "power button locks instantly", but that totally defeats the purpose of the lock timeout. What's worse is that it does have the normal two separate display and lock timeouts like every other Android phone, but still somehow has this weird instantly-in-an-app behavior.
So basically, it lacks an unsecured lockscreen. Did I mess something up or is this normal?
The only explanation I have for this is that Sony disabled the unsecured lockscreen due to how hard it is to accidentally turn on the display (since the button is recessed).
Please, anybody? In other words, is it normal that the lockscreen to only appears after the lock timeout ("Automatically lock" setting) and that there is never an unguarded lockscreen?

Accessing that area can be done on Samsung devices aswell. This is not a security flaw, that area is meant to be accessible from lock screen so if you need to turn flashlight on or similar things without needing to unlock your device.
But if you pick some of the buttons it will request you to unlock the device to do the action. Only some of the buttons can be used while on lock screen.
On Samsung if you touch WiFi, Bluetooth, mobile data and position tracking on lock screen it will then request you to unlock the device to be able to turn them off or on.
After checking my Asus Rog phone 2 I see what you mean now. It seems Asus didn't add such security, which they should.
