Question Ethernet Tethering with Power delivery adapter - POCO M3 Pro / Redmi Note 10 5G

Recently upgraded my redmi note 10 5g (EU version) to miui13 and android 12 manually from the about screen.
I can use ethernet tethering but cannot charge.
If i charge i cannot use ethernet tethering. SO 1 option at a time.
My samsung s21 allows both. so I can charge phone while connected to ethernet with the same adapter below
The adapter i have is "StarTech.com USB C to Ethernet Adapter – 3 Port – with Power Delivery (USB PD) – Power Pass Through Charging – USB C Adapter (US1GC303APD) "

Is there a setting in the phone to allow both charging and ethernet connection ?

Did you find a solution for this? I'm facing exactly the same issue with this adapter: https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B09MQDWP6H
Without simultaneous charging the ethernet tethering option is nearly useless for this phone.

No solution
xiaomi phones with MIUI don't allow ethernet tethering with Power delivery. Maybe in the future they might add this.
I'm not sure about other xiaomi phones which allow custom ROMs like ArrowOS would have power delivery + ethernet tethering.
I'm not a fan of custom roms.
I'm sticking to my samsung S21 fe 5g and works perfect.

Man, that's annoying. Only bought the phone because it should run as a 5G modem haha
Just ordered a bunch of other usb-c hubs and ethernet adapters but when you say there is no chance This is so stupid.. SSD and Ethernet is working but not charging? Are they stupid?

I hear you I also use my phone as my backup internet.
I have tried it with 5 different ethernet adapters does not work with note 10.
All 5 adapters work with my Samsung phone.

Perhaps you can list all adapters here, so if someone is so desperate to try it on his own, he can at least buy another one.
I tried these, nothing worked:
1. RUXELY USB C to Ethernet Adapter, PD 60W
2. Belkin USB-C/Ethernet Charger Adapter 60W PD
3. SZPACMATE USB C HUB, USB C Adapter 10 in 1, Docking Station 100W PD

Didn't try to flash a GSI rom, since I'm not so familiar with flashing und building GSI roms.

I see.. My mi 11t Miui 13 can't do both Tethering and power delivery... And I thought my hub is defective. Can anyone recommend cheap 5g phone that supports ethernet tethering and power delivery at the same time ?

Xiaomi 11T Pro Ethernet Tethering

Hi , just been battling with the same problems. Trying to use a tablet running android 11. Exactly the same experience.
Lan / data works fine, single usb lead power works fine... but just cant work out how to make the ethernet + power delivery usb-c adaptor play nice...
i need this functionality for a prototype i am building. Any help appreciated

Got it working on Poco x3 pro after updating to ArrowOS. Even on USB 2.0 10/100 Mbit/s ethernet adapter internet works slightly faster than with USB tethering, latency and jitter parameters are better too.

Hi i have redmi note 10 pro. after connecting the usb-c ethernet adapter, I still have the Tethering via ethernet option inactive why? adapter damaged?

Does Droid 3 Support OTG?

Does Droid 3 support OTG like SGS2?
Wow no1 has replied...
The drivers and phone is capable like any other - Not officially, plugging devices into the phone will not work, nor windows wont give you full host access with out using mass storage mode.
There is a little application called Droidexplorer which works in a similar fashion to otg, but also allows access every part of the phone (root) when simply plugged in even when the phone is set to charge only mode.
Excellent app if this is what your looking for, look it up.

maybe trick
Maybe any trick USB OTG for droid 3 use application like q5 memory manager?
somone get it working=?
OTG works perfectly with a modded lapdock, with the keyboard, touchpad and 2 USB ports all interfacing via USB. The stock ROM even supports mounting and unmounting flash drives as shown by a screenshot in this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=25111643&postcount=29
But I could never get it working with an OTG adapter. That same OTG adapter works fine on my Touchpad so thats not the issue. Its possible that the Droid 3 needs +5v Vcc to be connected, because when its on the lapdock its charging as well as providing OTG. This is different from my Touchpad which refuses to charge when in OTG and doesn't even need Vcc connected.
ok, thanks
but i only wanne use that otg adapter with flashdrives ;/
Hi,
I use ME863 that could support OTG but Just need through an Usb hub
that has external power supply.
I think Droid 3 should be ok, too.

i was able to get OTG working with a powered hub. last weekend i cracked open my hd dock for my droid 3 and added a $3 usb hub from monoprice.com. i now have 3 external usb ports that work flawlessly. $16 wireless keyboard/mouse combo from Gigabyte works like a charm from the couch with a 40" screen. hdmi+OTG+charge all work simultaneously.
the hdmi in the dock is just a pass-through so leave it alone. the wires for the usb port are labeled on the board. i crossed the brown(sense) with the bare ground. moved the r-w-g-b wires to there respective holes on the pcb for the hub. there are 3 empty holes on the pcb for the hub witch you can easily determine one is for power and the other 2 are ground (like there was an option for external power that didn't get soldered on the board). i ran wires from the power and ground holes i found on the hub to the original red and black holes on the dock pcb to piggy back power. i also relocated the led to a new hole in the front of the dock.
i also played around trying to get dock mode to work at the same time(if you actually want that). it seems if you only momentarily ground sence wire bur leave it hooked to the dock it will go back into dock mode but all devices that were initialized seem to keep working. you could in theory hold down a button after docking to initialize the usb accessories than let go to put it back into dock.
i also tried to find a way to get the audio out port to work (under the assumption it functioned like a usb sound card) but in the end i gave up as i cant think of an instance i would use it as the audio already feeds through the hdmi port. i would like to know if anyone gets it working though.
Got it working as well
Just wanted to say that I got it to work with a similar setup as kaiw1982.
I bought a powered usb hub and installing 2 apps to get mass storage support:

Hello,
I have a Droid3 and will be retiring it soon. I can use it as an XBMC media center IF I can get ethernet to work on it. My WIFI connections are NOT stable enough to broadcast live 1080p TV although SD TV does work.
Have either of you tested a USB-ETHERNET adapter with the droid3?
Thanks

I don't have one but I'd give it a low chance of working since support for USB devices on anything older than Android 3.x isn't that good. About the only things that work are mass storage devices like flash drivers and HID input devices like keyboards and mice.
I can confirm that the D3 supports otg, with or without a usb hub, but BOTH the phone and usb device must receive 5v from the same source.
OTG cable is also required due to the grounded ID pin.
I finally got around to ordering a proper OTG cable, I bought one like this:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009YPYORM
It works, some devices seemed to work okay without the hub, but best results are achieved using a hub. Then its just as reliable as USB support is when using a modded lapdock. Keyboard and mice work, mass storage devices like flash drives work, and surprisingly the Files app supports them and gives an eject option in the notification bar.

Dell Streak 7 Host OTG Adapter for usb devices: Game pad, usb drive, mouse, keyboard

You can buy a Dell streak 7 usb otg host cable (100% working): -
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=221061467218
there are other sellers listing the same items, and you can check it on ebay, I live in canada and ordered from china. It took around 15 days to deliver.
I recommend buy a usb female to dual (2) male usb Y cable: -
http://www.ebay.com/itm/USB-2-0-A-F..._USB_Cables_Hubs_Adapters&hash=item27ba21e9e4
steps to follow:
1. Root your dell streak and install USB OTG Helper.apk from android play store.
2. Switchoff dell streak 7,
3. Connect dell usb host cable (pdmi to usb otg adapter) to male connector of usb Y cable, and then connect usb device to female connector of usb Y cable.
4. Switch on dell streak 7.
5. After, Dell streak lock screen, connect another male connector of usb Y cable to power source (Dell Ac adapter).
6. go to usb otg helper and click on mount, it can may start adobe reader, don't worry.
7. go to es file explorer, and your drive is usb_drive_1.
Thanks & Regards,
Sahota
If the streak 7 is on the dell dock which has a micro USB input on the back... is it safe to assume that the docks power could sufficiently charge the streak and supply enough juice to a otg micro USB y cable to two female? I want to have a keyboard with a built in mouse pad connected, and have a 32gig flash connection available simultaneously
Edit: forgot to point out, dock is hard wired in my car, and thought it obvious that the dock would bypass the need for the 30pin. Just trying to learn if anyone has been successful at getting the streak to host through the oem dock.

No, the dock does not work for OTG purposes. The dock is wired the same as the USB data cable, which is different from an OTG adapter. That's why you can't use the USB data cable with just a USB gender changer for OTG purposes. The only way to use USB devices with the Streak 7 is with an OTG adapter and a USB Y cable with two male USB and one female USB ends and plugging one male end into the OTG adapter and one male end into a USB AC adapter to supply power for the USB device as the Streak 7 does not supply power over USB. You also need to power off the Streak 7 and then plug in the OTG adapter and power it back up then plug in the USB Y Cable, USB AC adapter, and USB device. There are two useful apps on Google Play for setting up and using USB devices with your Streak, or any Android device. One is USB Host Controller to monitor when the device is plugged in and working, and the other is USB Mass Storage Watcher which allows you to set an option for auto-mounting USB flash drives when plugged in.

Is there any solution ? Together with an external ssd the Streak would make a wonderful car music and movie station. Without external power - not so much.
I am capable of modify or add some cable. Couldn´t it be done like that ?
And thanks for your quick response.
Zorbas
I'm not 100% so I could be wrong, but I don't think it's possible. By the way the OTG adapter seems to work you have the choice of USB functions or charging. you have to power off the device and plug in the OTG adapter then power it back on to get it to work, and once you unplug it and plug the data/charge cable back in it turns off OTG functions and you have to reboot again. I know the data/charge adapters and the OTG adapters are wired differently (that's how the OTG adapter enables USB function on boot if plugged in) so you could try taking apart both adapters and combining the pin connections of the two. I'm almost positive this won't work though. Plus if it did I'd imagine we'd already see them available just like the OTG adapter.
Sent from my Streak 7 using witchcraft
If you want to both charge and use otg you need an official dock as that's the only one with all the pins exposed (as in available to the user).
I'll have to (re)check, but I believe it can both charge and accept otg devices.
Dock charging is serviced by different pins then the normal usb charge. afaik only the official dock has an otg port, generic docks dont.
It might be possible to hack a cable to do both, but the sold ones are not wired to do this by default.
The dock will not support OTG without modification though (maybe that's what you meant). I've tried without modifying the wiring and it will not enable OTG.
Sent from my Streak 7 using witchcraft
My 2nd gen dock does without modification, you are using the actual OTG port correct? And you're providing power right? The S7 will not provide power period.
Of course it requires using a custom rom as the stock rom doesnt support OTG.
I've been able to use otg and hdmi out on my tv simultaniously, I dont recall if it can charge but otg definitely works.
My dock only has the mini USB data port, HDMI port, 3.5mm audio jack, and power port. The mini USB port does not work for OTG. Maybe it's because my dock isn't second gen though, I don't know if it's first or second gen. Yes the stock kernel does support OTG. I have stock 3.2 and OTG works perfectly with the OTG adapter.

As far as I'm aware:
Gen 1: Designed for S5
Gen 2: Designed for S5 and S7
And both contain the following ports:
Dock power connector
USB-OTG (usb mini-AB female)
USB-Slave (usb mini-b female)
Line out
Speaker out
(see wikipedia for usb port definitions)
I have not heard of a version not containing both usb ports.
I personally have a 2nd gen dock and I believe that my info is correct for the 1st gen dock.
Could you provide pictures of the dock/original box? By what you're saying it's an official dock from dell I assume?
Yes official dock. Only one mini USB port. it supports both Streak 5 and Streak 7, it has both clear plastic pieces that support the phone/tablet standing. Came with Dell AC USB power adapter, Dell mini USB to USB make cable, and Dell power cable (barrel plug to male USB).

Whoops! my memory was playing tricks with me, it only has one port.
But we have the same dock, that's the 2nd gen dell dock.
As I said though, you can do otg though that dock as long as
you have a rom that supports otg (stock roms do not)
you have a powered usb hub (as the S7 does not supply power)
an approporate cable
The 2nd gen dock (and I believe the 1st gen also) has a micro usb-AB port, and not the standard micro-usb B port.
It's one of the few devices fully in-spec for usb-otg. (nearly all devices are out of spec in that they use have a micro-uub A female port and yet support otg, otg devices were always supposed to use micro-usb AB female ports, but micro-usb A is depreciated now)
You're 'supposed' to use one of these:
To properly use otg, but you can functionally get away with using a Mini-A male <-> Standard-A female.
This is what I used and I can confirm it works as long as you meet all 3 requirements up above.
I'm not sure how important it us to use a Mini-A male <-> standard-a female instead of the more common mini-B male <-> standard-a female.
If you dont supply your own power, the S7 will simply not detect anything at all.
Even with a powered hub it took a lot of fiddling with it to get it to initialize the hub (hub turns on if it detects a host, and it took much time to get it to power up).
I can only confirm that a keyboard and mouse work though, none of the roms are set up to accept drives (mostly config issue, not inherently unable to).
Edit: I had already dicussed this in a previous thread, repost:
TheManii said:

Left is a mini-A connector, right is a mini-B. Thusly the 2nd gen dock can accept either and you can use either host mode or slave mode.
I assume host and slave both use the same pins on the dell 30 pin port, if that is the case then I guess you cant use it as both a host and slave at the same time.
The original standard used mini A/B ports and connectors. The current standard is to use their eqivilent micro A/B ports and connectors. This is the proper way to do USB-OTG support.
Off topic: micro usb OTG cables are technically out of spec (if I am understanding it correctly).
The host device should have a micro-AB port if it supports hosting and the cable should be micro-B <-> micro-A.
The point of A ports and connectors is to physically indicate the device is capable of OTG support on that port. Otherwise you would have to randomly guess and plug things in to see if it'll work or not (at the hardware level, we'll completely ignore software support for now)
The above two cables are techincally out of spec, though the USB-IF isnt going to raid their factories and stop them or anything.
Is the proper way with usb-mini, I cant even find the equivilent usb-micro cable though. Admittedly it's rather useless though, as things such as usb keyboards and flash drives are perfectly compatable, but never have a port.
I use a mini-A male <-> usb-A female cable, which is a close compromise.

I dont remember how much testing I did on stock roms, I spent most of it testing on ICS (i think?, it was months ago)

I have recently got myself the Dell Official HOME Dock for my Streak 7 (4g version, Stock HC, rooted). I also have a "mini USB male to USB female" like the one you have shown. I tried connecting my Flash drive using these, but obviously it would not work.
So I wanted to understand:
What custom ROMs support OTG?
What exactly do you mean when you say a "powered usb hub"? Do you mean I need a USB "Y" cable and have one male connected to the power?

Flashcast without externally powered OTG cable (No invasive cable cutting required!)

Note: You will still need a NON-POWERED OTG cable though, but there's no need to cut it.
Having only a non-powered OTG cable and eager to hack my Chromecast, I went looking for other cables/adaptors lying around my house in an attempt to find an alternative. Here's what I came up with.
Things you will need:
NON-POWERED OTG Cable
Male-to-Male USB Cable
USB HUB
Steps:
1. Connect the micro USB end of the OTG cable to the Chromecast and the other end to the male end of the USB hub.

2. Insert your Flashcast thumbdrive into one of the ports of the USB hub and the Male-to-Male USB cable into another port.
3. Insert the other end of the Male-to-Male USB cable to your preferred USB power source. (I used a portable charger for convenience sake.)
There are many other possible solutions depending on the cables/adaptors you manage to find. The point I'm trying to make is, instead of sourcing for a rare cable days or weeks of shipping time away from you, an immediate alternative might just around the corner waiting for your discovery.

Did something very similar myself too, has worked using 2 or 3 hubs. Worth noting a cheaper crappy hub is far more likely to work for this than a posh expensive one, as some have protections to prevent power going the wrong way through the hub, as I believe this is specified in some of the standards.
Literally right Before reading this thread I successfully rooted my Chromecast with this method, but to note my usb hub is powered by an ac adapter, i assumed this was a requirement.

This will only work if your hub will backfeed. I had to use a external hard drive power y cable.

Sadly, mine didn't come with an AC adaptor, had to improvise. Like what hearnia_2K said, most cheap hubs should work, and posh ones will likely come together with an AC adaptor anyway.

Just bought a Belkin powered USB hub from local Walmart on clearance for $4. Thought it was a bust till I took jercb123's advice and used a Y USB cord from one of my external HDD's.Used the other end of the Y cable plugged into one my phone wall chargers and took with first try. Thanks for this.
Did I screw up?
I went out and purchased a non-powered otg cable and before reading any posts( I know I should have read thru this thread a couple of times, but I didn't) I started connecting things to each other. the light on the chrome cast was white then it went red. I unplugged everything then connected the chromecast to my TV via HDMI. the screen said it was updating and got as far as 10% before I unplugged it. I waited a few minutes then plugged into my tv again and the screen said updating, 0% then 10%. I unplugged it again.
A couple of facts to consider:
1. I did not yet down load the new image and burn it to a usb drive.
2. the chrome cast, before the latest connection to the HDMI of the TV, was still
not updated.
Did I some how allow the update to happen? what should I do? do I give up on rooting this for now? Thanks for your answers and help!!!( I hope I made some sense!)

Once the update has been downloaded, there is no easy way to root the device. The only way to get out of recovery mode is to let it update, unless you're willing to disassemble the device. If you are that desperate to root, you can attempt to force a USB boot by using the method described here. However, that method is quite invasive and possibly dangerous, and I can't be held responsible if using it breaks your Chromecast.
Hmm i followed the methods mentioned here but flashcast isnt getting loaded My chromecast is new and hasnt been turned on since I ordered it last month ( I've been away) so its still new in the box. I also have a USB 4 port belkin hub with its own power source. I have that plugged into the wall...cable to the hub....USB stick in 1 port with the flashcast bin loaded onto it....other port has usb cable to chromecast which is then hooked to TV. I hold button on cast and connect power..Red light comes on..(still holding button)....nothing happening...I got like 3 dots on my screen but nothing happens even after holding down for 30+ seconds. If i dont press the button on cast and connect power..then it just boots normally ideas?

The Chromecast needs to be connected to the USB-B port of the hub using a regular OTG cable. See my post here for more information.

Then it dosnt turn on. I put the chromecast with a regular OTG cable connected to it connected to usb to mini B connector to Hub....flash drive in other of the 4 USB ports on hub...and port was powered with power cable that it came with.
This is the HUB I have

In any case you can't have both the chromecast and the flashdrive on the ports - they cant communicate over the ports. One of them must be on the male end of the hub.
Any chance to get this working without a male-to-male usb cable? I have an unpovered otg cable and few powered and unpowered usb hubs.....
thx

It may work with certain powered hubs. Use the OTG cable to connect the USB-B port of the hub to the Chromecast, plug your USB drive into one of the USB-A ports on the hub, and then connect the hub's power. If the Chromecast turns on, you should be able to hold the button to boot from the USB drive.

Hmm seems non of my hubs is able to backfeed the chromecast to turn it on so no other way than wayting for the Y otg cable...
Male to male usb cable seems to be more exotic part of any household than regular or Y otg
do what i did, i had a few spare male /female usb cables, i chopped 2 up and took the male ends and hooked them up together then taped them up XD it worked great !

can you show me a pic of your hub, it might be the one i have, i have this one
So I soldered a male to male usb cable but still no luck - d-link or belkin hubs I have are not able to pass the power to the otg...
Probably no other way than wait for the Y otg...
find a pic on google of your hub, cause if you look on mine the power plug is that little first one on the short side the mini usb , i hooked the unpowered otg cable to that and then to my Chromecast, then i put the usb drive on the big usb port on the bottom and the usb cable that would deliver power to the hub by connecting that one to the usb port on the top port of hub then to my pc. at first i was doing it the other way around and it wouldnt take, i would get those dots and a white screen then once i did it like that it worked.

Samsung Dex (generic)

Yesterday I received a Rocketek Dex station from amazon, I purchased it for 26.99 thought I would post on here because I think its pretty good.
small and cheap it can fit in your pocket dont need to buy that huge Samsung dex station for over $100 either.

I also use this Bluetooth keyboard/mouse pad to use with the dex, It is one of best I found, because it has metal back very thin, and light. The metal back I never thought would be able to find on a keyboard/mouse like this.

Agree. I am using it for some time now and have had no issues at all.... Works as Sammy's Dex.
Does it work for Dex? Because lots of the reviews online say no.
I have a KSWNG unit, which looks similar. It works great on my Nintendo Switch, but I am having some issues with it running Dex. It requires power to load Dex. Without power, it only does screen mirroring. When I use external power, my full USB port stops functioning. I can only use either/or.
Yes works with dex, turns on dex on note 8
Are you running stock Samsung firmware?
Is external power required for Dex on your unit?
Can you charge AND use USB while using Dex?
My Note 8 is using CRA9 Oreo, requires external power to turn on Dex (screen mirroring without), and adding power will disable the Full USB port.
So I can do screen mirroring with my keyboard/mouse, OR Dex using the phone as a touchpad.
I am on 7.1.1 I am not sure if it runs without external power.
It has 3 ports 1 usb c to charge 1 HDMI 1 usb
Then a male usb c to connect to the phone
I am asking if you can charge AND use the USB port for external mouse/keyboard.
All of the reviews I've seen/read say that the Rocketek only uses Dex without power, however I think Samsung is trying to kill off these 3rd party adapters by requiring Power during use, which my adapter disables the USB port.
Can you confirm you can run Dex while charging and using a USB mouse?
I just told you it has 3 ports one usb, one usb c, one HDMI, what else would you do with a usb c then to charge it, then a usb c male to plug into phone did you look at the pictures look at Amazon at all or the reviews you can answer your own question
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B0...C_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=dex+note+8
I use this one. It's ridiculously tiny and well made; the USB C that plugs into the note 8 folds into the back of the hub. Works flawlessly with Samsung dex with and without power. I'm on Dr. KETAN'S N5 ROM. I use DEX MAX free app to allow all my apps to display full screen. Everything is perfect.
I have one too. It doesn't show the charging light, but it does in fact charge. I'm using a lightning charger. I also have a K400 hooked up and it works well. I have all 3 8 series phones and it works fine. For sure not as robust as the dock, but I keep mine I a case.
EDIT
Using it now. It is a fast charge. I have never used it with a "slow" USB wall wart.
Do any of these support ultrawide monitors (2560x1080)? I have the DeX Station connected to a LG Ultrawide display, and I end up with vertical black bands on both sides.
Or perhaps this is a software limitation, rather than hardware.
I believe it supports same as normal dex, so what ever the normal one can do, 4k I think is possible but could be wrong
It seems interesting. Is it possible to charge the phone while the dock is being used as Dex?
Does this still work? I heard Samsung updated it to no longer work with 3rd party stations.

I'm on January security patch and just used my generic Dex yesterday, also another question above, it (fast) charges at same time when the unit is plugged into a fast charger.

Running a Note 8 with Oreo and have a generic USB-C to USB dock that I got off of amazon and Dex is working great. Even bought a usb-c extension cable for it (just came today) and it all works brilliantly.

OTG flash drive not working on Note 9?

I recently purchased a Sandisk 128Gb “duo” OTG memory stick – the sort with both a USB-A and a USB-C connector – to transfer files between my Note 9 and my PC.

It works fine on my PC and on my Galaxy S8+ (it is recognised as soon as I plug it in) but my Note 9 fails to see it. I’ve tried having it formatted as both FAT32 and ExFAT with the same results.
As far as I can tell, both handsets are configured the same (Settings > Developer Options > USB Configuration is set to MTP), the only difference is that the S8+ is running Android 8.0 and the Note 9 is on 8.1.0. Both have the 1 October 2018 security patch installed. Neither are rooted.
Using the OTG Troubleshooter app (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.homesoft.otgtroubshooter&hl=en) on the Note 9 gives me two green ticks (“USB Host Support” and “OTG Detected”) as well as two red crosses (“No USB Device Detected in Linux” and “No USB Device Detected in Android”).
It’s obviously not a problem with the stick (it works fine in the S8+) or my USB-C socket (OTG Troubleshooter recognises when it is plugged in), but I’m all out of ideas for anything else to try.
I've only tried to hook up a pen drive to the Note 9 once using the adapter that is included in the box - it didn't work. The drive works fine in a windows laptop as well as a Roku.
My otg Kingston. 128gb works perfect on my Note 9
I had the same exact problem with the same exact flash drive. It only worked as follows
Change usb to charge device
Open Samsung file manager
Let it format the drive
Then it is working every time I plug it
Hope this helps

Thanks, but I don't really want to root my phone just for this. I think that the charging port is OK as I can charge the phone (and transfer files to my PC) using a USB-C cable.

Thanks, but even when I change Settings > Developer Options > USB Configuration to "Charge", I still can't see the drive. I also can't find any way to format a drive using Samsung My Files (I assume that's what you mean by "Samsung file manager"?), even on my S8+ which can see the drive.

This compatibility list from Sandisk is seemingly/hopelessly out-of-date:
https://kb.sandisk.com/app/detect
With that said,it's hard to say where the fault lies.
I'd contact both Sandisk & Samsung, hopefully it'll result in something more constructive than finger-pointing.
FWIW,my MEENOVA USB-C OTG adapter works just fine on the Snapdragon Note 9 (SM-N960U,T-Mobile US version) using a Sandisk SD Card:
http://www.meenova.com/st/p/dash_g3c.html
Can you connect the to the mobile through the converter supplied with the mobile
Will the mobile see it?

Mate, I have 3 or 4 Eaget OTG sticks. They ALL work well on my Note 9.
I've used a 3rd party USB A to USB C adaptor to plug in a micro sd card reader and that works fine also. Also tested the Samsung adaptor that came in the box. Again no problems...
Not sure what your problem is but it sure is a head scratcher...
Thanks for the responses, which make me believe that it should work
I've done some more testing:
If I plug the memory stick (using the USB-C end) into my S8+ or my Note8, it is recognised immediately - so the memory stick is OK.
If I plug the the USB-A/USB-C converter which came with the phone into the Note9 and then plug the memory stick (using the USB-A end) into the converter, it is recognised immediately - so the socket on the phone is OK. (Although it works only if I plug the converter into the phone and then plug the USB into the converter, but not if I plug the memory stick in to the converter and then plug the converter into the phone).
But if I plug the memory stick (using the USB-C end) into the Note9 - nothing!
i have the same OTG and samsung 256GB USB C flash drive, i can use both without any problems in my note 9
OP. Any chance of trying the memory stick in another Note 9?

I don't know anybody else who has a Note 9, though I may try popping in to a phone shop and just see if I can plug the drive in to one (it will only take a few seconds to know whether it can recognise it).
I also don't have access to another USB-C OTG drive to try in my Note 9, but that would be the other obvious thing to do.

Where did you format the drive, PC or mobile....
If PC try doing it on the mobile after connecting using the adapter
Settings → Device maintenance → Storage → three dots top right → Storage settings → SanDisk usb drive→ Format
Once completed, unplug from mobile and try to connect it without the adapter

it does not connect using an adapter.
I formatted it with galaxy S7 (by the way it defines this flash drive), and nothing happens
I use the same otg. No problem here on note 9. Are you using phone case? Sometimes the usb isnt insert properly with case.
I think I’m about to give up on finding a solution, having tried just about everything (including the ideas mentioned above).
I’ve tried formatting the drive with the phone, using the USB-C/USB-A adapter that came with the phone. Worked fine, but the phone still didn’t recognise the OTG drive afterwards.
It’s not a physical connection issue (on the rare – and not repeatable - occasions that the OTG drive has worked in the phone, wiggling it around makes no difference). I’ve tried all my testing without a case fitted and the OTG Troubleshooter app that I mentioned above reliably indicates “OTG Detected” when I plug it in.
It’s not a faulty OTG drive – it works fine in my other phones (S8+ and Note 8). All are Exynos.
It’s not a faulty socket on the Note 9 – any other USB-C plugs (including the adapter which came with the phone and a USB-C cable connecting it to my PC) work faultlessly.
My best guess is that there’s some incompatibility – perhaps some sort of timing issue, but I’m not a hardware guy – between this particular OTG drive and this particular phone. The fact that the same combination works for some people here, but not for others, suggests that it’s just one of those strange compatibility issues, but without gathering a whole lot of data about what exact configurations work and which don’t, it’s almost impossible to troubleshoot - and there probably aren’t enough people here to gather sufficient data to do that.
This information on USB OTG may be helpful.

I don't think there is a USB otg flash drive
If I understand correctly it's the phone that can act as USB host or slave
