It's bad enough that Samsung apparently doesn't allow any 3rd party apps to access the telephoto lens. Man, I just want to have some fun. Especially considering that the telephoto lens are noticeably better than the default "wide" lens in my opinion.
Is waiting for a S10 compatible version of Samsung's Expert RAW app my only option?
bump!

Hi guys!
I was just wondering if anyone has had the chance to mess around with the Telephoto lens/algorithm to get more options or to be able to use it in Pro mode?
Or does Samsung have it locked down pretty tight? The reason I ask is that I find it odd that Samsung doesn't utilize the telephoto lens in Pro mode even scenes with more than enough light.
I was also reading an article on how the iPhone 7/8 Plus does a similar thing to what Samsung does where in lower light they use the main lens and digitally crop it but 3rd party camera apps have the ability to select between the two lenses.
Come on Samsung, open up your camera API!
Note 8 telephoto lent raw
I have the same problem... Isn't possible show in raw with the telephoto lent in pro mode.. Is there a third party app that allow to' shoot in raw with THE telephoto lent?
Just felt this needed a bump!
yeah i have problems with it as well. bought a zhyun smooth 4 gimbal for video because it has a zoom wheel and samsung wont let the zhyun camera app or filmic pro to use the tele lens, or 4k. so annoying.

So ive been taking pictures with my beloved Note 8 for some time now. And the only thint that bugged me is how I need to have some distance just to capture a wider view. I got annoyed and thought what if I buy a wide angle lense? Has anyone tried using one? And what brand do you recommend? Ive been eyeing the products of Aukey and they seem to be good.

I'm going to a concert soon and I'm also looking for a Len's that snaps onto the phone but one that zooms in without sacrificing quality. I'm going to a few concerts this year and being able to zoom in would be awesome.
Hi ... I am a photographer that picked up a few lenses for my Note 8. I have the new Moment Wide from Moment. I also have their case for the Note 8 to mount the lens. It is very sharp and has excellent image quality. I can recommend it. I also own the Moment Fisheye (ultra wide lens). I would recommend that you only get the Fisheye as a second lens. The Wide is extremely useful, the Fisheye is a special purpose lens (but it is nice quality and is sharp). For a tele lens Moment makes a 2x tele, but I own the Sirui 60mm it is also a 2x tele lens. Since the Note 8 has a 2x camera module, why would you want a 2x lens? Because you can use it on the primary, higher quality camera module in lower light. The Sirui is sharper than the Moment 2x. It is very sharp. The Sirui can use the Moment case because it has a lens mount that is very similar to the Moment lens mount.
If I was only going to buy one lens, it would be the new Moment Wide. But, the new Moment Wide and the Sirui 60mm is a nice combination because it gives you three focal lengths to use. The standard lens in the Note 8 and the two additional lenses.
I don't know if you are shooting stills or video. For video I also have a DJI Osmo Mobile gimbal and two Moment counterweight (50 g., 100 g.) so I can use the lenses on the gimbal and still balance the extra weight of the lenses. This combo can create very smooth/stable video.
Good luck.

The Moment site has many sample photos of the Moment Wide lens; here is the link:

You can switch between the standard camera lens and the Moment Wide without any loss of sharpness. Images will be of similar sharpness, just much wider. The Sirui 60mm tele has sharpness and rendering that is similar to the Moment Wide.

I use to ask and every seller says: "it is compatible"... I'm afraid to buy because I want one with really good quality, at least good lol.
MOMENT is the best quality lens atm ! No Regret
Hi volks and p20 pro experts,
i wonder if my 3xtelelens really works or not.
If I zoom 3x and block the 40mp lens with my fingers and let the tele lens free, I see nothing.
Also I see no noticeable better shots when shooting 5x zoom with blocking the telelens or blocking not.
Do anyone know if this is normal behavior, or is this a brocken telelens.
I am on CLT-L29 8.1.0.131(C432)
Thank you all

Depends on the conditions. Blocking lenses won't help because it will be using sensor data from all the lenses to get the best shot. You may just be blocking the lens that is showing you the preview on the phone screen.
Mine works and if I block the tele lens I see nothing, but bear in mind that you have to focus at something far for it to work or else it uses the digital zoom with main sensor. You can note that the tele works but seeing the ois starting to work in your display. I usually takes one two seconds to switch lens

You can check the EXIF data from your shots to see which lens was actually used (the small i-Button in the top left, when you're viewing a picture in the gallery). If it states f1.8, it was the "normal" lens, if you see f2.4, it's the tele lens. Note that closeups will always be taken with the normal lens. If you want to shoot a close up with the tele lens, you need to be farther away, like at least one meter.
Hi,
Any methods or mods to change the camera lens on the live view mode. Actually my live focus on note 9 uses the telephoto lens. I think is much better to take Photos with the telephoto lens.
Any idea to change the camera lens for telephoto lens.
I want this too... telephoto is better to take portrait photos.
The S10 5G actually gives you the option to use the wide or the telephoto as the primary lens for the live focus mode. Maybe it will come to the S10 and S10+ too in an update?
That's a miss in S10. I need it too.
Is there a way to get the Super Macro mode to work using the 5X lens?
On the P30, I can use the 3X zoom lens with super macro, but on the P30 pro, I can't and can use the 1X at best.
So the P30 can zoom in much further in super macro mode.
The best lens for super macro is the wide-angle
Super Macro is based on the ability of the camera to focus at a short distance - the way the 5x telephoto lens has been configured is with the aim of long-distance focus, so it physically cannot focus on something closer than a certain distance. I've not tested it myself, but believe it to be about 1m-1.5m away from the phone.
As above, though, the wide angle lens makes for the best Macro shots in my testing.
