[GUIDE][CM9/CM10] Battery Optimization

Some of this advice is based upon our current understanding of bugs in CM9 and how to best workaround causes of battery drain until the developers are able to fix their causes. If you have suggestions for further improve this guide, please reply.
Power Saving Options
Google Talk is logged in by default.
You probably did not want this? Go into the Talk app, hit Menu button and Sign Out.
Turn off haptic feedback and touch sounds
By default the phone vibrates when you touch menu options or type on the onscreen keyboard. Vibration uses a lot of power. Sounds when you touch the screen also use a little power.
- Settings > Sound > scroll down to System
Dial pad touch tones - many users like it, others turn it off so it is silent when dialing the phone to avoid bothering other people.
Touch sounds - default touch sound is very subtle so many choose to keep it. You can save a little power if you turn it off
Screen lock sound - also subtle, I personally keep it.
Vibrate on touch - strongly recommend to turn this off if you want to maximize battery life.
- Settings > Language & input > Android keyboard > toggles to the right of it
Vibrate on keypress - turn this off to maximize battery.
Alternatively, you can make the vibration much smaller in Advanced settings near the bottom. Keypress vibration duration settings of 5ms is nice. It is a tiny reaction you can feel from pressing an onscreen keyboard button.
Turn off LED Notifications
- Settings > Display > Pulse notification light
Blinking LED notifications are nice. Unfortunately, the Epic CPU is unable to sleep while blinking the LED because it relies on software timers. For this reason, it is strongly recommended that you turn off LED notifications entirely if you wish to maximize battery life. As measured by CPU Spy, maximum CPU deep sleep can jump from 65% to over 95% with this option turned off. You can still hear the notification chime and vibration when you have an incoming message.
- Settings > Display > Pulse low battery light
You may also want to turn this off for the same reason. If you do not, the battery will drain even faster when the battery is already low.
Put Wifi to Sleep while phone is sleeping
- Settings > Wifi (touch the icon on the left) > Menu button > Advanced > Keep Wi-fi on during sleep
Strongly recommended to choose Only when plugged in. The behavior of this option is different from Gingerbread. Rather than turning off the wifi, CM9 instead seems to put it into a semi-sleep state. Data is turned off, but it can recover very quickly when needed. If you want Wifi to turn off entirely, Juice Defender Plus or Ultimate edition is capable of controlling Wifi sleep states while the screen is off. It is uncertain if Juice Defender disabled Wifi really uses less power than semi-sleeping Wifi as set by CM9.
No Signal? Use Airplane mode
- Settings > Battery > Cell standby
If your Time without signal is a high percentage, then your phone's radio is using extra power trying to find a cell tower that does not exist. If you are in rural areas with weak or no cell signal, your phone uses significantly more power as it tries to find a cell tower. Enable airplane mode in order to conserve your battery until you return to civilization.
Turn off Facebook Notifications and Background Data
In the Facebook app, hit Menu > Settings. Uncheck Notifications, and it also turns off background data refresh. This allows Facebook to fully close instead of always running in the background draining your battery and using some previous RAM.
If you want Facebook and its background service to die completely, use this procedure.
- Settings > Developer options > Kill app back button > Enable
From now on, when you are done using Facebook, hold down the Back button. This will completely kill Facebook until you run it again.
Turn off Data and Sync when you do not need it.

Why should your phone be busy while the screen is off?
Juice Defender - understanding the benefits and drawbacks
Reduce the number of applications that start automatically.
Apps you install will sometimes (and in most cases) have triggering events to start those applications in the background when certain events are triggered. In most cases, it is safe to disable that app from automatically triggering and instead launch that app when you want it as you normally would. By reducing the starting of applications, I have found that I also save battery because, well, my phone is doing less work and less work equals more battery.
I have seen some apps autostart even though you have disabled autostart events for that app (unclear yet why that's happening). If you find that is the case, and you want to stop it from running, try moving that app to the SD card using a program such as DroidSail along with disabling events. Why? Apps on SD cards at present do not receive the on_boot_complete event. Please note, this may break some functionality such as widgets.
In order to decide what to disable, you need to understand how you will use the app and whether you need it to run in the background. You can use an app such as Autostarts to control the startup on Android (At the writing of this it costs $1.03 USD).
When selecting apps to disable autostarting in Autostarts, stay clear of ones highlighted in Yellow as they are system apps.

After Startup
Connectivity Changed
Other events can also be disabled but remember, by disabling events that start apps, you can be breaking the functionality that the app gives you. For example, disabling ‘after startup’ on an app such as AdAway will render the webserver that runs as part of that application to not run on boot. Be smart, but disable what makes sense.
If something doesn’t work right and you are not sure what you disabled for that app, simply uninstall it and reinstall it.
Stop syncing things that you don’t use regularly.
You can always manually sync them when you need them.
Access the menu here: Menu -> System Settings -> Accounts and Sync
For example, I use Gmail, Google Contacts, Google Calendar, and Google Browser regularly so I let that sync. I disable Google Currents, Google Docs, and Google Chrome Beta because I rarely use them. When I want to use them (once every couple weeks), I start the app and sync them manually.

Finally, someone with a little bit of sense, even on the N4 I use most of those tips and get 2 days of battery with moderate use.

Here it seems to do miracles, lots of persistent services that refuse to close (e.g Poweramp in my case) are automatically hibernated with Greenify.

[Q] How can i disable the daily Stamina message?

Every day my phone recommends using the stamina mode to extend my battery life. How do i get it to shut up? Disabling the ecocontroller app didn't remove the message.

No, thats grey.

I assume you do not want stamina mode, so try turning it on, but change the setting so it only activates at 1% battery.
That should disable the notification, at least in theory.

Sounds reasonable, good way of thinking..

I had the same annoying problem – but after a long search I was able to find the solution for it:
With the App "Notifications Off" (Free in Google Play Store) notification settings can be set for each app - even for system-Apps (hence root privileges are required for this purpose).
The annoying notifications about "my Xperia" and STAMANIA mode (App "Eco-Mode Controller") can be disabled easily!

How to disable System UI "your battery is full" notification?

Posting here as I haven't heard back in the S10+ forum:
I don't recall seeing this on my Note9 running Pie, but with my S10+, when the battery is full, a second battery icon is pushed (left side next to the time) when the phone is plugged in and battery at 100%. According to the notification details, it is System UI / Battery Full. Unfortunately I cannot disable any of the System UI notifications.
Any workaround?
Update: System UI on the Note9 doesn't have a "battery full" trigger, hence why I've never seen it. Definitely something introduced on the S10.

Hoping to find out as well. I did set mine to Silent, removed app icon badges, and disabled it on the lock screen, but I believe it still shows on the notification tray and AOD

Any updates to fix this annoying problem? I just want to disable everything to do with the 100% fully charged activation.

I'm using AutoNotification to block the WiFi Calling notification.
- choose "Notification blocking"
- select the process causing this notification
- Enter the exact title or message
- done - after tapping ok, the notification should be blocked.
It works without any issues and I didn't notice any battery consumption by this app

Solved - tasker not starting when phone is switched on

Hi,
I have a profile that switches my phone to do not disturb when I get to work but for some reason the application doesn't start when I switch on my OnePlus 3t in the morning (stock OS 9.0.4). Profile kicks in if I start the app. Any ideas what is going on? Tried to switch off battery optimisation bit that hasn't helped.

Have looked at those links again and will try to see if the locking thing sorts it. If not I'll try to toggle off the advanced battery settings to see what it does.
Just noticed that both tasker, the auto apps and lastpass has the option to manage battery usage in the background greyed out. Could this have something to do with it. Can't figure out how to change this. Have checked 5-6 other apps and they allow me to change this setting.

I think I have solved this now. Tasker seems to be running happily in the background after I locked it using the padlock icon you get when you click on the three dots you see when you switch between apps or want to close it. It is even playing nicely with battery optimisation turned on.

Since locking tasker with the padlock it works fine both with battery optimisation on and deep cleaning.

Question [Origin OS Ocean] How to get push notification from various apps (like social and messaging)

Like the title say, I'm in trouble getting the notification of any app I install : I disabled vivo.pem as suggested in one other thread and allow notofication per single app (that were turned off before) and last disabled the background battery optimization for those apps.
No luck after all, as nothing show up when I send whatsapp mess e.g.
Any ideas?

I had to use the uninstall command on vivo.pem to get my notifications to work, disable didn't help me on the latest firmware.
Also, check the app permissions, hold down app, info, app permissions.
Turn off (remove permissions if app isn't used)
Single permission settings (turn all on the switches), you can also review permissions
Go back 2 screens and select notifications, select all sliders and then check your desired app notification is going out via priority display.
Finally go to settings, battery, background power consumption management, and change the setting for the app you want to not sleep by choosing high background power usage.
So annoying, I know, too many settings and easy to forget one

Thanks for the time spent in the long answer; however still no notifications on the tested app (whatsaap) with all the reccomended settings.
Is since 2015 I think that I don't have a chinese firmware phone and the things have changed, in fact, before, was enough to install play store and all the notification were received without further settings.

i also did every setting as told and my Notification for especially WhatsApp isn't working at all.
Sometimes it does, but then all of a sudden it just refreshes when I open the App itself.
I even put it down in the Bar with the 5 Main Apps, in hope those would be refreshed or kept alive in the Background.
Not sure anyway what you mean with uninstalling vivo.pem.
Suckz kind of, because apart from that it really is a great Phone... aside from Android Auto not working.

You have to plug in phone on computerand run ADB command to uninstall vivo.pem.
Vivo.pem is a system that aggressively shut down apps to save battery power, to much shut downs and notifications stop working.
Check the thread "Origin Os initail review" on here and you will find out how to do it. Takes only 10 minutes

After doing the uninstalling did it stop the issue?

I uninstalled, rather than disabled, their power saving vivo.pem, ensured all my apps had priority permissions for notifications, disabled battery saving, and added them to 'autostart' in their respective permissions, and I get proper notifications for all the social media and messaging apps. The only small glitch come with Google Messages which won't display notifications in system wide dark mode. You can get around that by enabling the 'chat bubbles' option in Google Messages settings as they do work in dark mode.

Notifications are not the only issue , i cannot select Mock gps location app in Developer Mode ...
I press on the app i want to use ,but nothing happend , the app is not selected .
Anyone noticed that too ?

There is no need to uninstall vivo.pem, I think. Just some few steps:
1. Go to recent apps and lock it.
2. Settings -> Apps & permissions -> App manager -> WhatsApp -> Permissions -> Single permission settings -> Autostart and Startup enabled.
3. Settings -> Battery -> Background power consumption management -> WhatsApp -> Select high background power usage.
4. Settings -> Battery -> More settings -> Disable Sleep mode.
Works fine for me.

Do you use Whatssup? after the latest OS update it cannot connect to linked devices
