Flash magisk directly with fastboot flash command, or flash twrp then flash magisk with it

Magisk is a root zip. It sounds like you are flashing SuperSU and Magisk. You can only use one or the other, not both!
Reflash stock ROM (or at least stock boot.img). Then flash Magisk. That's it.
Getting the error message that boot.img is modified is normal and expected in your case. SuperSU patched the boot image. Now Magisk is looking for the stock image to patch, and finding a patched one.
Hello, guys. I have an issue with magisk 19.3.
I flashed MIUI 10 Global version in my Mi 9. After that, I flash TWRP then reboot to TWRP install magisk 19.3 and reboot system, but not able to get in the system instead boot to recovery. Does anybody know why?
Any Magisk modules installed? In this case delete them first.
Cheers

No. I didn't installed anything. I just flash MIUI 10 and flash in TWRP, then flash Magisk from TWRP.
Flash ROM, boot system to setup, then flash magisk.

Hello, I have a Honor 9 Lite in n° build 9.1.0.127 (C432E6R1P4).
Can I root this and how rooting this, please ?
Yes you can, but you need an unlocked bootloader.
1- Unlock bootloader.
2- Flash TWRP using fastboot.
3- Use TWRP to flash 'Magisk'.
Et voila !

You can root this using canary module magisk. But you will not be able to use the recovery while it is rooted because in pie you do not have ramdisk to patch so we will have to patch recovery_ramdisk using the canary build magisk manager and have to flash the patched recovery_ramdisk to the recovery_ramdisk partition in fastboot, hence we will not have recovery, but magisk root will be available.

Where is this canary version? I flashed magisk but get bootloop from xposed. I just extracted my current recovery ramdisk and patched then flashed but as xposed is causing the loop it doesn't matter what I flash. A fix would be wipe and flash but I can't wipe at the minute. I haven't heard of canary though, do you have more info?

If you have TWRP recovery you can try to flash your current firmware using huawei updater tool without performing any wipe.
Which twrp you used? The one for emui 8.x, the only available twrp for honor 9 lite?

When getting a custom ROM and wanting to root it with Magisk, should I patch and flash the boot.img of the specific ROM or the boot.img of the factory FW

Flash TWRP or orange fox and then Magisk zip in the recovery
That's it
But of course the bootloader has to be unlocked
The boot img of the current ROM you're using like example boot img of Pixel Experience if you're using that. Usually the boot img is inside the ROM zip when you installed it. But this method is for devices without custom recovery. Of course it will work but I suggest to follow what Laptapper suggested to flash a custom recovery (orange fox r12.1_2 or twrp 3.7.0) and just flash magisk.zip.
