Android Q was officially released today for pixel phones, so does anyone have a guess as to when it will reach this device? Also, is there anywhere online I could find a detailed look at all the changes in the new OS?
It's not Android Q, it's Android 10. And that question is impossible to answer. 3rd-parties to Google don't start rolling-out these updates for at least a few months after initial release unless you're part of a beta/tester program.
Android Q(Globally named) aka Android 10 with One UI 2.0 in case of Samsung .... probably max to December or in worst case at the beginning of 2020... Most probably, as on previous updates(major ones), November this year...
My bet - February 2020.
Based on Note 8 and Pie release dates.
So 5 months to wait.
It's even less than half a year [emoji14]
Looking at the latest reports from Samsung we won't be getting an official version, but I assume people will port from something similar or build from source all being well?
I think Android 10 can release for note 8 , samsung was change the updates policy ,but the bad think is it only change after note 8 release , so may or not get 3 updates... s9 and note 9 Will receive 3 os updates
Is their any official news abt note 8 getting A10?

No have any official News if will receive or not, but samsung only updates 2 major os , samsung change updates policy to 3 major os updates but after note 8 release..
The thing I've noticed about Samsung though is that even though the next version of Android is released, the new flagship seem to ALWAYS be released with the prior version of Android ( note 10 with pie, this should have been released with Android 10). This means about a month, 2 or 3 months on they Officially upgrade it and thus have fulfilled their commitment of one major upgrade. About a year later out comes the next major upgrade and that model has now been dropped from the upgrade program. Seems a bit of a con to me, now they do the 3 major upgrades this might actually mean support for the full 2 year life expectancy of our phones...
Hope not! Note 8 its prety stable with Pie 9.0! Realy hope Samsung do not update Note 8!

Lets just hope that Samsung won't suddenly push an OTA that would slowly kill the device / make this device a brick, I owned the Note Edge Exynos variant (The OTA for Android 6.0.1 and their security updates slowly killed the device). Hope this doesn't happen to Note8, I am using Android 9 OneUI 1.0 (February Security update :silly

If that's the case then Android 10 would definitely possible for the Note8 via Custom ROMs and stuff, but then again Note8 is newer than the S8 (why would they even think of doing that). I still kind of get it, cause I believe S10 kind of got the Beta for Android 10 before Note10.
Isn't there a way/possibility to port the lastest Android 10 & One UI 2.0 based Note 10+ Rom for our Note8?
Hi! I'm seriously considering buying a refurbished Note 9 but noticed that Android 10 would be its second OS update after just 1 year and 4 months. Samsung's update policy is 2 OS updates with at least 3 years of security updates, does this mean Note 9 won't be updated to Android 11? This would be pretty bad if true. Just looking for someone to clear this up. Thanks.

Normaly in the past for all other models, things went as you said... 2, max 3 OS updates so maybe note 9 might have Android 11.

not sure what youre talking about. the note 9 has had constant updates all year on both the U and the F versions. To double check historical updates, you can look on sammobile.com/firmwares to see the last few releases. sammobile is pretty decent about keeping historical device links active.
Here is the link to the F version and there is a selector for the different variants as well right above the download links

I mentioned OS updates a.k.a Android version updates not security updates. Note 9 launched with Android 8.1, received Android 9 last year and Android 10 this year. That's 2 version updates already which is usually Samsung's limit (3 years of security updates not not withstanding). Note 9 based on past flagships shouldn't receive Android 11.

oh, you mean the separate versions of Android. You said updates, and they are starkly different things. Also, even within the Android "version" are releases which are also "Android version updates". Not trying to split hairs, rather clarify and help avoid people answering the question you asked vs the one you meant to ask.
So, the answer to that is very unlikely. Android releases are just a hair faster than the phone hardware releases and ive never seen more than 2 years of support on any phone, much less a Samsung one. Check my sig for currently owned Samsung phones.
Well you could see the history repeating it self, in this case we have note 8 wgich didn't get android 10, so i gues this will be the same with note9 when android 11 comes.
"We don’t have a timeframe as to when Samsung will start rolling out the One UI 2.1 update for these devices, but it’s safe to assume that the Galaxy Note 10 and S10 series will have priority over their predecessors. There are two reasons for this: one is the obvious fact that the Galaxy S10/Note 10 are newer, and the other is that the Galaxy S9 and Note 9 have only recently made the jump to Android 10 and One UI 2.0.
One UI 2.1 brings relatively few changes
Certain One UI 2.1 features that work hand-in-hand with the newer hardware, such as the option to switch to 120Hz mode, won’t be available on older Galaxy devices even after the update. Obviously, there are technical limitations that prevent some features to be ported over to older models. But other UI changes like the additional Screen Zoom options and/or Samsung Quick Share should be made available on older phones via the One UI 2.1 update.
We’ll keep you up to speed as soon as we learn more about Samsung’s rollout plans for One UI 2.1 on the Galaxy S9, S10, Note 9, and Note 10 series. We should be getting new info on the matter over the course of the next couple of months."
I found this on Sam.
The new software is available for the Samsung S10 with the official OTA from Swizerland.
Anyone knows more like a developer way to have in on note 9 before official release?
Why you need earlier i mean this way you void Knox and other stuff it will like a custom rom and also it will come soon so i dont need to rush anyway. This way i will have it original from Samsung
I hope it zaps the bugs that presented with the initial Android 10 update.
I wish they'd make their video player remember the last used screen mode. Sucks having to press Stretch after starting each video.
I read that they will not update note 9 to One UI 2.1. is possible to update the note 9 in a unofficial way?

no more updates see this https://www.sammobile.com/news/galaxy-note-9-galaxy-s9-one-ui-2-1-update-might-not-come/
This is ridiculous. We have a powerfull and expensive phone, from the most expensive line of Samsung. After only about 1.5 year from its release, Samsung will not update our device anymore?
Last "major" update. We'll still get security updates for awhile yet.
Updated Note9 to One UI 2.1 yesterday.
Does anyone know the apk file name for Samsung Music Share?
I searched via the web and looked through the packages via adb, but cannot figure out which one is Music Share.
Thank you!
I'm a software developer (mainly C++) and owner of various (older) Android smartphones. Especially Samsung S5 LTE (klte), S5 plus (kccat6) and S5 neo (S5neolte). I'm very interested in how to keep older smartphones up to date. So coming from lineageos.org I landed here as some older devices lost their official Lineage OS support. How can I contribute to keep (older) smartphones up to date?
