<rant>HD2 t-mobile brand screen protector.

Just for info, there's two in the box. it covers ONLY the screen that has the LCD. DOesn't cover whole face.
Never had issues sticking on these static type protectors but this one gave me hell. ruined both. the protector is slightly tacky. And will attact dust(like any like this) so make sure you're in a clean room. But both of my protectors wouldn't stick on the edges of the protector. and every time I tried to peel it up and putting it back down, it still didn't hold. Then dust got under it. augh. Ruined both. I wonder if they would take them back since both wouldn't stick on teh edges? Aww... they will probably say I'm returning it because I got dust under it.

i know how you feel! i bought them when i got my hd2 and i got the top two-thirds of the protector on perfect but then the bottom third somehow got dust underneath, it really not that bad when the screen is on but its still annoying. cant wait to get my invisibleshield on it tho!

I used invisishield on my ipod. Great stuff, but hard to get on perfect. 3 parts for a curved back and front only covers the LCD part? The front part sounds so unlike them. They normally have it going round buttons and everything.
But it's like putting tint on. You need to have a liquid to make slide just right.

i used invisible shield on my iphone, and it was fully protected. It did add grip to the device which i liked. Anyways, the maximum protection shield covered more than the normal full-body shield. It'll cover not only the LCD screen but all spaces around the hardware buttons and well as the speaker.

I also got these same screen protectors and was dissapointed when it did not cover the entire screen.
Trick to putting on screen protectors.
1.) Make sure the screen is completely clean of all smudges etc.
2.) Use a can of air duster to remove any small dust particles that might be stuck on the phone. If you don't have that then just take a piece of tape and remove any dust particles or dirt from the screen. This is the most important part!
3.) Line up the screen protector on the screen where you want to place it.
4.) Peel back the backing of the screen protector as you lay the screen on the device. Start from the top of the device and work your way down. If need be take out a credit card or another hard piece of plastic of some sort to push out any air bubbles that may occur as you lay down the screen protector.'
5.) Enjoy a job well done.

It's interesting to note that all the previous posts are (I assume) from US members.
You get a screen protector with the phone and we here in the UK don't.
I have heard mention that when some EU units have been returned for screen problems they have been repaired with what has appeared to be a plastic version of the screen.
My phone is now coming on three months old, never had a protector, never used a case and the screen is immaculate.
Can anyone say if theirs "feels" like plastic?

My TMOUS HDC HD2 is definitely glass.
I didn't bother to use a screen protector (didn't even know there was one supplied)...it isn't necessary on a glass screen.
Its very hard to scratch glass...you would need a very sharp object, made out of a very hard material (harder than glass), applied with a lot of pressure. I've had my iPhone for 3 years, and the glass is flawless on it. The aluminum housing is scratched, dented, and dinged up, and the LCD panel has a little bit of bruising on the top left corner BEHIND the glass...but the glass itself is immaculate.
Apple actually pulled the screen protectors off the shelves from the Apple store because they felt they were unnecessary..and frankly anyone who pays for one on the HD2 or iPhone wasted their money.
You'll actually see more imperfections on the screen by applying a screen protector...they have a tendency to attract dust, bubble up, and flat out get dirty. The only maintenance you need to do on a glass screen is polish out smudges and finger prints.
The biggest peril to glass touch screens is cracks from falls....and if your HD2 suffers a big enough impact, a screen protector or 'invisible shield' won't do squat to keep it from cracking

glass or plastic..either way.. i was soooooooooooo confident i wouldnt scratch mine, until about a minute ago when i was in the process of wiping the glass(plastic) screen before putting on a screen protector, i noticed a little scratch...great. Should've put on a protector sooner...
From now on, I willl be putting on a screen protector unless the screen are made out of crystal sapphire or something..

We actually do not get an included screen protector. Only the black gel case, which imo is quite crappy... loose and flimsy

I bought the Maximum Protection and it covers almost everything besides for around the buttons on the bottom, volume rocker, camera, Micro USB/ 3.5 Headphone jack, and the finger nail grove on battery cover. I also would like to note that my TMOUS HD2 did not include any screen protectors in the box.

Sorry imo I have to disagree with you about the included gel being loose mine fits quite snugly and until my zagg comes in I prefer to keep it in the gel...not as slick & keeps the screen(when face down) off the flat surface.

A tipp for all you guys getting dust under the screen:
I always apply a new screen protector in my bathroom after showering - the steam in the air (the more steam, the better) binds most of the dust particles and makes it A LOT easier to get a perfect result!

I agree, I used to do this back in the day before Zagg came around. It works great.

I have read with other products people use a drop or water/soap water before applying a screen protector. Has anyone used this method on this device? i am concerned that the water will somehow ruin the device. I know it's only a drop or 2 but wanted to get some feedback first before i tried it.

Very Good Screen Protector

Hey all,
A little headsup I found an awesome screen protector. Thought I'd post it as theirs been an influx of "MASSIVE SCREEN SCRATCH" Threads.
This screen protector is military grade, does NOT scratch.
The only downside (could be an upside for some) is that it requires soapy water for install.
I have this screen protector and can not tell you how happy I am !!!

Once applied, all bubbles disappear within about 24 hours. Once its fully dried and bubbles are gone, its virtually invisible !!
It feels lovely to touch, you can feel it but its not a nasty feel like some of the other protectors. Almost the same sort of feel as an Xtreme Guard, but less rubbery !

I'm planning to buy a screen protector and I might choose this one, can you tell me about how effective it is against fingerprints and smudges?

Well, I have a XtremeGuard screen protector which is also a soapy install screen protector and I must say it's nice. There are some major downsides like smudges and an orange-peel effect which happens if you don't install it correctly (also happens when you do install it correctly, but minor). The only way I can remove smudges off this thing is with water and a micro-fiber cloth which isn't something I carry around with me everywhere. That being said, dry screen protectors are the way too go. They can be cleaned easily (meaning smudges can be removed with your sleeve) and look better when the protector is installed on your device. I've gone through the Zagg Invisible Shield (the one OP posted), XtremeGuard's screen protector, and a normal screen protector and the dry one is the best in my opinion.

Hey, it hardly shows any finger prints at all. I've cleaned it once since install (month or two ago) and that was just a wipe with my jumper sleeve. Much better than the others such as the XtremeGuard mentioned below.

Hi, I also have an extreme guard on my HOX and I agree with your comment. However, and this will sound weird, try this:
Rub the finger prints in, with your finger. Untill they are really smudgy and horrible, then get your jumper sleeve and just wipe the smudge fairly hard. I'm telling you this works like a charm and gets rid of all finger prints !!

Tempered Glass Screen Protector Touch issue

Okay so I have the device for over a month now and only now I managed to find a screen protector for it. But as soon as I applied it, the bottom part of screen won't respond to touch anymore unless I am touching the metal bezel. So basically if I try to use my phone as it lies down anywhere, I can't. I'll have to pick it up in my hand. I then even tried with a different tempered screen protector but the issue remained. Though the touch works perfectly fine without the tempered glass on.
I understand how capacitive touch screens work but I believe if the touch works fine without the screen protector, there should not be any such issue with it. Is my device defective? Any help would be appreciated.

I'm having the same problem in a lesser degree. Since putting a tempered glass, the very bottom of the navigation bar is unresponsive (while I didn't have any problems before putting the tempered glass on). I'm using a cheap tempered glass so it's been my guess that it's not a good quality product, which explains the touch screen issue.
I didn't try another tempered glass since I got used to using the top bar of the navigation bar so I don't know if the problem occurs with all tempered glasses. I bought a couple of plastic screen protectors if I get tired of the problem.

Did you try touching the metal bezel and then trying whether the navigation bar responds aptly or not. In my little understanding, touching any metal parts provides earthing to the circuit and facilitates transfer of electrons thereby improving touch function.
But I have never had any such issues with any of my previous devices.

No, it doesn't change anything. It's the first time I'm using a tempered glass on one of my devices so I don't have any point of comparison.

I don't think the Motorola Service Centre is going to be of much of a help here as the device works just fine without the screen protector on.
Guess I'll have to find some plastic screen protectors and trust the Gorilla Glass 3.

Same with me, putting a tampered glass on made the bottom right portion of the screen very unresponsive, after taking it off, the sensitivity was fine.
Anyone know of a good plastic protector?

I took off the tempered glass and put a simple protective screen and the difference in screen responsiveness is amazing. It feels like a totally new touchscreen!

It would really help if you could tell where you got the simple protective screen from.
No matter the device has gorilla glass 3 protection, but I still don't want to keep the screen exposed.

I just bought the cheapest matte protective screen I could find on Amazon here in France. I don't remember the exact reference, just that it was coming from Germany (I usually buy protective screens made in Germany, I've never been disappointed so far).

OTAO DOUBLESTRONG tempered glass screen protector

Here is my review for the Otao Tempered glass Double Strong screen protector. This will be a Honest review(it lasted 3 days).
I give it a 3 out of 5.
I received the Screen protector in a nice padded envelope that had a nice cushion to it and once i opened the envelope I saw a nice little box surrounding a foam insert. It really is well packaged and the directions for installation were fairly straight forward. Open box, Clean phone, apply alignment tool, apply screen protector. Only nitpick about the directions is it never says anything about the plastic protective film on the back side that keeps it from sticking(straightforward common sense but still should have been at least mentioned).
Onto the actual installation:
I had issues with it lining up properly. It kept lining up slightly diagonal so the top left and bottom right corners would not stick properly(more on this later). I attempted to align it twice and both attempts were diagonal so either my phone was made diagonally or the alignment tool was slightly... not aligned? Other than that the installation went fairly smooth.
Features:
This like many other screen protectors claim case friendly. I decided I was going to put that to the test. My case of choice? Spigen Tough Armor. You know what? It ACTUALLY was casefriendly. It would be a perfect fit other than my alignment issues but it was not lifting any where other than those 2 diagonal corners( this is where the 3 days come into play). The amazon page claims scratch resistant and "Super anti-Fingerprint". I tested out general day today scratch possibilities such as keys in pocket with the phone and sliding the phone around on the screen(don't judge.) and i can say it IS pretty good with day to day items. At the end on my 3 days there was not a single scratch on my screen protector. I was amazed. As for "Super Anti-Fingerprint", Sadly that is not so good. Within the first 5 minutes it was COVERED in fingerprints. When the screen was off it was unbearable to the point I had actually flipped the phone over(remember when I said sliding on the screen?). Another thing I noticed that doesnt say anywhere on the product page is that it is a "Dot Matrix" type screen protector.
Gripes:
Other than my few cons listed above with the alignment issues and fingerprints. The screen protector is fairly well made. However... due to said alignment issues The screen protector was not sealed properly and will no longer stick to the phone. Thus leading me to my next test, Durability. I, like a lot of you, am certainly not going to do a drop test on my phone to see if the screen protector does its job. Instead I did an off the wall method. After the screen protector no longer stuck to my phone I placed it on something raised(notepad if you must know) and dropped various objects onto it from 6ft away. It survived. So I did a bend test. It takes ALOT of effort to break one of these, but once it did break I noticed a problem. Its only a 2 layer protector. The phone itself will be protected from glass shards incase the protector breaks since the inside is a seperate layer HOWEVER the glass is right on top. It is VERY easy to cut yourself once it breaks. I think they could have added another thin layer to protect the user from glass. That layer would also help with the finger print issues aswell.
Final thoughts:
All in all its a pretty good screen protector. It does its job well, Protecting the screen. Some of the other claims it makes though... not so much.
My score? 3/5.

Sometimes the actual screen protectors are not cut straight,.not just the alignment tool.
Ive never had much success removing and replacing a screen protector due to possibility of dust and contamination etc. Your review is great, since it's informed me that one cannot install this screen protector on first attempt due to either the tool or cut of the screen protector. Which in turn for me is a major fail.

stock screen protector

Hi,
I'm enhoying this device right now and I want to discuss the stock screen protector - it comes actually with two - for the small screen and for the large screen.
1) I'm not sure if I want to remove the protection of the small screen. The protector looks solid and I might to keep it on it.
2) The protection layer on the large display feels not that good as it is probably not a glass one? Samsung told that removing is possible (by samsung not by user!) but they dont recommend it. I dont like fingerprints and I dont like moving fingers on it (dont know proper english to describe it)
so anyone here who removed the protection layer on the large screen or the small screen?

Yeah, I like the idea of that screen protector... but man does it get fingerprints and grease on it. Makes it look terrible. I will hold off as long as I can but I think it will eventually come off.

I picked it off (from around the camera cutout) on day 1, no issues here. Screen feels much better (almost as good as regular glass phones), and it looks much cleaner.
Far easier to get the smudges off with a microfiber cloth now. I'm much happier with the screen protectors taken off!

Are you going to get another one?

I wonder if applying an olephobic coating to the installed protector would help at all?

The feel of the big screen protector is awkward, but I'd like to keep it on. It kinda feels like a self healing layer. Had a tiny dent in it but after a few hours it was gone...

I have removed the protector from the small screen in the day 2. I'm considering to remove the protection from the large screen because my fingerprints are all over it and I do not like the touch of this protector. The only thing I want to know (and I will wait) after a month of using someone who took it off if there is no big issues (of courtse I can live with some small scratches as maximum usability for this phone will be 2 years anyway)

I'm so tempted to take the inner protector off. Hate the "sticky" feel of it. Not smooth like glass.... Looks like it's a stretchy rubber like material. Hate to risk it though

No scratches. When I have it open I'm careful to not drop it of course. I have the phone in pocket and I'm careful to not have it with any other things which would get in between the phone.
The feel of the screen is like you touch glass - no more sticky plastic cover nonsense.

I removed the inner screen protector:
1. It was easy (just used a piece of paper to lift protector near camera hole). Peeled off like any other protector.
2. It no longer feels like a sticky rubbery screen, it feels like glass.
3. Fingerprints are no longer the big issue. It obviously has an oleophobic coating.
4. Any fingerprints are removed far easier.
5. The screen does not feel fragile. Without any protection there's a possible risk it will scratch easier but as long as you avoid anything abrasive on your cloth or in your pocket etc I am confident it will be fine.
Incidentally, I think microfibre cloths that are too fluffy should be avoided as they trap fine particles of grit. I use the ultra fine ones, usually used for glass care.

after week of no inner protection - still no scratches and still the feeling is like pure glass experience. I did not need to clean the display besides getting rid of dust by very slightly using my cloth.
I had removed the protection by just using fingernail around the camera slowly peeling off the layer - you cannot do any damage if you are just careful and pulling it too fast for example. It is easier than it might look.

one week in is not a concern -- several weeks from now chime back in...

Can someone please show me how to install the Verizon outer screen protector? It looks incredibly complicated. Pulling Tab 1 and pressing halfway then pull tab 2 while pulling bottom yada yada yada. Jeez.
