Disable randomized MAC address - Huawei P30 Pro Questions & Answers

In one of the updates, Huawei seems to have defaulted all WIFI connections to use a randomized MAC address.
This causes issues for WIFI networks that I use which require me to register my MAC address because they use MAC security.
There may have been an option to disable this in the past, but I can find nothing in the settings.
Is there any way to disable this?

Go to WiFi and hold your finger on the network you're connected with and change its settings. First option under the password is what you're looking for.

Wifi connection issues

Hi all,
After connected to wifi, I still could not get any internet connection. Anyone knows why? Is there any additional settings i need to check/uncheck?
Thanks.
If your router/access point has DHCP enabled, there shouldn't be any additional settings.
On the TFLO Settings tab, open "Menu" -> "Wireless Networks", then "Advanced". Is "Status" associated, and a valid IP for your network?
DHCP IP assignment
I had a hard work of IP assignment with my Diamond initially. Could connect to Wifi with all of those security configs (WEP/WPA/WPA2) but could not fix IP. I had to change IP lease time from 3 weeks to 3 hours with my D-Link 624. Than it worked perfectly.
Hope it helps.

Hi,
My status is associated, and there is IP address assigned. I wonder what's wrong. The funny thing is, my Asus P750 is able to connect and surf.
Did you solve your issue? If not, try to change WIFI power management to max performance.

Wi-Fi and WPA secured wireless networks.

Hello to all diamond people,
We all know, there is huge issue with this great phone about Wi-Fi connections. While Wi-Fi is one of the reasons people choosed touch diamond, what is their disapointment when they find out wi-fi doesn't work as it should.
I am talking about problem I am experiencing by myself - I am unable to connect to my home WPA secured and encrypted network. If I turn the security off on my router and wireless network becomes open, there is no problem at all.
But who wants unsecured, open wireless network at home, so all the neighbours can download whatever they want through your network?
Nobody.
During my research throughout forums I have come accross many people, experiencing same problem, but was not able to find the solution to the problem, or what is causing it.
My aim is to gather as many information as possible to help to fix this problem, so everyone could use wi-fi on their own home WPA secured wireless network.
Any ideas?
What is your ROM and radio versions? I've no problem connecting to my WPA enabled network. Which WPA option did you choose? It must match the same WPA option on your router. There are WPA, WPA-PSK, WPA2, and WPA2-PSK, then there are also TKIP and AES to choose from. Try setting both Diamond and router to use WPA-PSK (TKIP) first, this should have the highest compatibility with other WPA supported devices on your network. And make sure you use a strong passphrase, you can use a WPA key generator.
Hey,
both router and HTC are set to WPA -PSK under TKIP encryption. I use my own network key.
The thing is, in wireless lan manager i can see htc does connect, but only for about a second, then it starts reconnecting all over again.
Sometimes it does connect and works for few minutes and sometimes it does connect to router, but not to the internet. It drives me absolutely mad.
I tried Advanced Config -> Network -> WPA authentication - enabled/disabled, but still experiencing problems.
I have heard there used to be issues with ROMs provided by the network operators, but that is not my case.
ROM: DIB Diamond v 1.33
RADIO: 1.00.25.05
WPA secured
Hey,
If You want to use WPA secured wireless networks with Diamond go to Settings-Wireless LAN-Power Mode and there set Power Save Mode to Best Performance. It works
Sorry for my English...

I guess it's probably not your ROM, since the DIB Diamond v1.33 is based on the newer 2.03 ROM. I was wondering, do other devices on your network have the same issue or it's only the Diamond? Connection dropping can be many reasons, and one of them is the router itself.

I don't have any problem even in Power Save mode.
Somewhere I have come accross the information some routers (particullary Belkins) do have problem with windows mobile devices.
Today I wrote to Belkin Support, thay should reply in 72 hours mad, however we may know more.
Since I am using unsecured wireless network now, at least I have activated the MAC addresses lock - only allowed MAC addresses can connect to router now. What do you think, how secure is that? There is no encryption now, could someone see the sommunication between me and the router?
Which Belkin router are you using? Check if there is a firmware update, you may want to try that.
MAC address filtering should be ok for now, it can stop the majority of people who try to use your network, it will take someone with a bit more networking knowledge to gain access to your network, but most people don't have that knowledge.
Yes, people can capture any unencrypted packets and read them. But if you're connecting to a secure website through HTTPS or any other secure protocols, the packets are still unreadable. For example, in the browser, if it's written https instead of http on the address bar, those sites are secure. Most regular websites are not secure though.
I was having a similar problem on my Touch Pro a while back. My router is also set to WPA-PSK/TKIP. Although you said you tried it, the solution for me was indeed to go into Advanced Config > Network > WPA Authentication > Disabled. I then removed all previous wifi settings and then added them again, and it connected without a problem.
It could be that there's something else preventing your connection, but from what I can tell you should at least have that setting disabled.

its pretty secure, as you cant guess the password, you would have to get in and add your device to the list (which you would need the username and password for)

[Q] IP setting in HD7 (WIFI)

hi everyone,i bought HD7 last night and i have a problem with wifi.i want to connect my HD7 to my wireless routher. i must to set my HD7 IP.i can see HD7 IP but i cant change it.how can i do it? thanks
There is currently no way to set a Static IP address in Windows Phone 7, you'll have to wait for an update to come out that allows this.

You shouldn't need to manually configure your IP for the phone, the router will most likely assign your phone one if your DHCP is enabled (default on most routers). If you are wanting to connect it to your current home network and you have a wireless router, first you will need to go into the router configuration and set it to broadcast your SSID (if not already enabled). At this time the HD7 cannot connect to hidden networks (I don't see a point in hiding your SSID anyway, use better encryption, and a strong password with numbers, letters[upper and lower case], and symbols[if supported]). You can then use you HD7 to connect to your home network, once connected to your network go back into the router and look at your network. It should list all the devices currently connected to the network along with their currently assigned IP addresses. If you really need to, now that you know what IP address your router has assigned to your phone you can set your router to give your phone a static IP but really as long as you leave the router broadcasting the SSID your phone should have no problem connecting to the WiFi it should save the key and SSID, and it will get a new IP at regular intervals.

[Q]Wifi droping problem

I have problem: My wifi signal drop every 60 secs approximately,on every stock rom from JVQ to the newest JVU. Last rom where wifi works great was JVQ after that version i have same problem in every single STOCK rom,JVZ,JW1,JVU... (on CM7,ICS port,MIUI I dont have that problem).
Anyone know how can i fix it? (sorry if my english is not to good)
Known problem. There is a workaround however. Set your wifi routers dhcp lease time from 0 (or never) to, for example, 120 mins. Also remove ip address reservation (if set) in your routers settings.
Used to have the same problem at android 2.2, but the 2.3.3 update fixed it. I used to assign a static IP to my device at home, that helped for the time being.
I have INTRACOM JetSpeed IAD-Wp2 router and cant find non of these settings.
Try going to 192.168.1.1 in your webbrowser on your pc, and try getting access with username and password "admin". That should allow you to configure some settings, including assigning a certain IP address to your phone.
On your phone, go to wifi settings, advanced, and enable "Use static IP address". Then configure it's settings.
You should refer to the routers manual to find out the setting for the dhcp lease time and ip address reservation. Routers and their names for these settings can differ slightly from each other.
If you set static ip in your phones wifi settings, you may not be able to use wifi anywhere but in your home network.
So the problem is my router or the phone? All these solutions that you have proposed are not long-term right? It will help me just when I am at home but if I go out somewhere that settings will not be of some help right?
The settings I posted were looked up specifically for your router, milanche911. But indeed, it'll only fix it when you're at home; you'll have to turn using a static IP off if you're elsewhere.
Does it happen to you no matter what router you use? I only had it happen to me at home, at other people's places things were fine.
try this application
it is WiFi scanner and signal checker... in config is setting scan Frequency 0-30 seconds and including the radar and WiFi sources GPS locator ...
good luck.

If the issue is the "wifi bug" which has been covered in the leaked rom threads, the culprit is the phone.
As a long-term solution, there's no harm in setting the wifi routers dhcp lease time to finite value and removing the address reservation, so that the router is not forced to give your phone always the same ip. At this point, you should not change the ip to static in your phones settings, this is what will prevent you using wifi outside your home.
Now you should find a way to check these settings in your routers configuration.
Thank you people! Thank you for your help, the problem was that I had been logging into the router settings with admin / admin and I got the complete setup for just a basic settings. Trick was that I log in with admin / tzlkisonpk and thus get full router settings where I finally found the "lease time" setting. Configured for two hours and now everything is fine. Thank a lot once again! Cheers!
Glad it worked out

MAC randomization in P9

Hi All,
I've bought a WiFi repeater/extender with the intention of connecting to my P9 hotspot and connect to all my devices at home using my phone data allowance, but every time I switched the hotspot off and on again, it never connects back to the extender again.
Finally after some head bagging while trying to troubleshoot the issue, I've realised that the Mac address changes automatically every time I switch the Hotspot on and off, rendering the range extender useless!
After some google search, I've realised that is called Mac Randomization and it's a stupid feature.
I also tried a Samsung Note 8 and this doesn't happen at all!
Do you know a way to disable the MAC randomization on my Huawei P9 please?
Many thanks
Yes, on Nougat, Tethering hotspot changes MAC address every time it's turned on.
But I tested also with Oreo, P9 rebranded to Chinese AL10c00b540 - and on Oreo, Tethering hotspot keeps always the same MAC address.:
Three screenshots, for each test I even renamed the Tethering hotspot name, but it's MAC address remained constant
---
PS: For the matter of fact, MAC Randomisation is something else:
- Device should change its MAC address when connecting to different WiFi Access points / Hotspots, to protect its privacy
(not to change the MAC address for its own Tethering hotspot)
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.theregister.co.uk/AMP/2017/03/10/mac_address_randomization/
And regarding to that, both Nougat and Oreo do not change their MAC addresses when connecting to different WLAN connections, but always and everywhere connect with the same MAC addresses (you can test by installing eg Network Utilities app from Playstore)
Anyway, I don't know why on Nougat it changes iMAC address of its own Tethering hotspot (and why not on Oreo), and I don't see any settings to control that
