Hello to all diamond people,
We all know, there is huge issue with this great phone about Wi-Fi connections. While Wi-Fi is one of the reasons people choosed touch diamond, what is their disapointment when they find out wi-fi doesn't work as it should.
I am talking about problem I am experiencing by myself - I am unable to connect to my home WPA secured and encrypted network. If I turn the security off on my router and wireless network becomes open, there is no problem at all.
But who wants unsecured, open wireless network at home, so all the neighbours can download whatever they want through your network?
Nobody.
During my research throughout forums I have come accross many people, experiencing same problem, but was not able to find the solution to the problem, or what is causing it.
My aim is to gather as many information as possible to help to fix this problem, so everyone could use wi-fi on their own home WPA secured wireless network.
Any ideas?
What is your ROM and radio versions? I've no problem connecting to my WPA enabled network. Which WPA option did you choose? It must match the same WPA option on your router. There are WPA, WPA-PSK, WPA2, and WPA2-PSK, then there are also TKIP and AES to choose from. Try setting both Diamond and router to use WPA-PSK (TKIP) first, this should have the highest compatibility with other WPA supported devices on your network. And make sure you use a strong passphrase, you can use a WPA key generator.
Hey,
both router and HTC are set to WPA -PSK under TKIP encryption. I use my own network key.
The thing is, in wireless lan manager i can see htc does connect, but only for about a second, then it starts reconnecting all over again.
Sometimes it does connect and works for few minutes and sometimes it does connect to router, but not to the internet. It drives me absolutely mad.
I tried Advanced Config -> Network -> WPA authentication - enabled/disabled, but still experiencing problems.
I have heard there used to be issues with ROMs provided by the network operators, but that is not my case.
ROM: DIB Diamond v 1.33
RADIO: 1.00.25.05
WPA secured
Hey,
If You want to use WPA secured wireless networks with Diamond go to Settings-Wireless LAN-Power Mode and there set Power Save Mode to Best Performance. It works
Sorry for my English...

I guess it's probably not your ROM, since the DIB Diamond v1.33 is based on the newer 2.03 ROM. I was wondering, do other devices on your network have the same issue or it's only the Diamond? Connection dropping can be many reasons, and one of them is the router itself.

I don't have any problem even in Power Save mode.
Somewhere I have come accross the information some routers (particullary Belkins) do have problem with windows mobile devices.
Today I wrote to Belkin Support, thay should reply in 72 hours mad, however we may know more.
Since I am using unsecured wireless network now, at least I have activated the MAC addresses lock - only allowed MAC addresses can connect to router now. What do you think, how secure is that? There is no encryption now, could someone see the sommunication between me and the router?
Which Belkin router are you using? Check if there is a firmware update, you may want to try that.
MAC address filtering should be ok for now, it can stop the majority of people who try to use your network, it will take someone with a bit more networking knowledge to gain access to your network, but most people don't have that knowledge.
Yes, people can capture any unencrypted packets and read them. But if you're connecting to a secure website through HTTPS or any other secure protocols, the packets are still unreadable. For example, in the browser, if it's written https instead of http on the address bar, those sites are secure. Most regular websites are not secure though.
I was having a similar problem on my Touch Pro a while back. My router is also set to WPA-PSK/TKIP. Although you said you tried it, the solution for me was indeed to go into Advanced Config > Network > WPA Authentication > Disabled. I then removed all previous wifi settings and then added them again, and it connected without a problem.
It could be that there's something else preventing your connection, but from what I can tell you should at least have that setting disabled.

its pretty secure, as you cant guess the password, you would have to get in and add your device to the list (which you would need the username and password for)

When I turn on my phone at work, the wireless connection (open unsecured) connects and works for a few minutes. After some time, it disconnects and without rebooting my phone, I cannot establish a wlan connection.
This is oly the case at work. At home it works flawlessly, but it is another network kind.
Anyone found a solution to this problem? I saw a lot of threads about this but no good answers.
I am using duttys v3.
Not sure. Perhaps there is some sort of time out on your work network for inactive devices, or dhcp ip releases or something weird and "networky" like that?
Or perhaps your phone is going into a power save mode if you are not using it?
Just general ideas, I don't have this particular problem
I dont think many people have this issue! you must not have a setting correct, try downloading KaiserTweak and adjusting the timeout and also take a look at the routers settings I find it strange that a business would have an open network for security issues

I work at the university, and the network is unsecure. You have to enter login and pass at a webpage to gain access.
I cannot reconnect at all once ive been disconnected. So it should have anything to do with kaisertweak or timeouts.
I have tried every setting and combination. I have tried to select work/internet settings. Ive tried to tell the phone its a hidden network / not hidden network. I have tried to use power save / performance mode. Ive tried to turn off 3g, bluetooth, phone (everything basically).
When I tap connect, it says connecting and then it immediately goes to "active" and tries to connect to another network (which I dont have access to).

I have worked out the problem.. first if its a WPA enterprise connection, make sure its set to WORK and not INTERNET setting. it will work. my only works with schaps versions not duttys
on my old pda (Acer N50 premium) I had the same problem with my unis network... it would only work (if at all) for a few minutes then nada... but at home it was absolutely fine, quick stayed on and totally responsive... I wonder if it has something to do with the rubbish way unis run their IT...?

Many do not have this issue.
According to what's being said here by the indiviuals with issues, you're having problems connecting to a certain network...not all networks.
If it were all networks; your device, settings, equipment or rom would be the common denomenator. Since it's one network, it's that network.
Just because a network is or appears to be available, that doesn't mean that you can connect to it.

no, it could be the phone software. Lets says that a string is added to the registry if the network you are connected to disconnects you; a string that makes the phone cancel connections to the network. And lets assume that the network disconnected you because there is a hidden firewall in the phone software that blocks ping requests, thus making the network believe that the connection is lost and thus disconnecting you. Then we have a moment 22, which is basically something wrong with the phone.
As some readers already pointed out in this "wasted thread", when changing the rom (in one case) or when changing settings from "internet" to "work" (in the second case) there is a great possibility that this problem in fact has to do with phone software and not network.
In my case, it just happens to be neither of the mentioned solutions or any solution that I have found in other threads.
One thing you may want to check is that your wifi is set to max performance. The issue may also be that there is a DNS cache issue, in most cases it can be resolved by manually reconfiguring the connection.
I have been successful in configuring my phone's WLAN to connect to everything from open APS's, WEP, WPA, RADIUS and AP's with proxy redirects, so I can tell you that as with most cases, it's human error.
I have tried max performance.
How do I resolve a dns cache issue? Manually reconfiguring the network did not help (only thing that helps is a reboot).

Hi.
I recently bought my s730. Quite pleased with it, but one thing bothers me.
When i connect to my wlan at home (zyxel_2602hw_d1a WPA-PSK TKIP) i'm able to connect to the router, but I don't seem to be able to get an connection to anywhere outside my own network. I tried using Live Messenger, IE, Opera and Skype, but nothing happens.
When I'm using GPRS or EDGE it all works smoothly.
Any suggestions?
Do you have your connection set to automatic or only through your phone network? I have seen a few problems with that.
Also, double check that you are entering wep or any other security protocol correctly, took my 6 tries before it would work, it looked like it was connected to the network but it really wasnt (just personal experience with this phone.)

I do have the connection settings in both IE and Opera set to automatic. I's there somewhere else I have to change settings?
I'm quite sure i typed the password correctly. I also checked the client list on the router and the phone showed up correctly.
Gah, cant remember where I saw it but there was a setting in the phone itself for what to connect to.
Another thing to try under the wifi connection open your saved connection and go into it and see if you have it set to connect to the internet or just to the private network under "network type" in the Wi-Fi sub menu of Wlan settings. Its late and I cant think right, i'll see about checking more into it later...
I solved this problem - change your WLAN security on your WLAN router only on exactly MAC adressee (no any WEP) and your Wings is allowed to connect and all will be OK, work OK - Skype, IE, Opera. Problem was only to find MAC adressee my Wings
Wing + WRT54GL
Hi!
I have an S730 and a Linksys WRT54GL router. I've tried to use wlan with my phone, but it doesn't working. I want to use WPA2 with AES without Radius. Is the WPA shared key (router) same to network key(phone)? without security and encryption, it's working well.. I cannot see any syslog. That could be so easy..

Did you check network settings? I mean e.g. if you don't use DHCP server and you didn't fill in right settings phone may connect to network but may not get outside. I know it can look like "lame" question, but sometimes even a master can do a newbie mistake..

usually it is in section WLAN Advanced setup - WEP Encryption - disable and in WLAN MAC Filters - active + allow asotiation with table of adress your Wings - aply . I have Zyxel Prestige 660HW.
I'm sure that DHCP is active, and that I get an IP.
I tried disabling security on my router, but same problem. Connects to my router, gets an IP but still nothing works

Your DNS are also provided automatically? Or could you ping (through some app) to any IP address of any server on the internet? If you succee, then we can look for a mistake with DNS.

wifi problem
hello everybody,i have tried several times to connect to my router at home but no chance at the end i got this warning saying:
cannot log on to the wireless network this network requires a personel certificate to positively identify you.
Hi,
I have just got the Diamond and I have two main problem.
1) Although I have connected the Diamond to my Home wireless network, there is no data transfer. Opera can not open pages, Youtube can not start even I can not update weather?
2) When I connect the Diamond to the Laptop / PC, all PC's and Laptops connected to my home network (wireless) drop from the connection and never connect again?
Thank you for your kind help...
I have same problem with my Diamond.
1) go to: startmenu->settings->connections->Wi-Fi->networkcard/adapter->and make sure that it says "my networkcard/adapter connects to internet"Also at the same tab open IEEE 802.11b/g Compitable Wi-Fi Adapter and try to a static ip matching the one your pc uses. (not sure about it since i can't recreate the problem atm..)
2) Try the thing I suggested in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=417664 (plz use search next time)

Thanks for your reply, but both of solutions do not work for me...
Any other suggestion?
Thanks for your help..
Try turning on wifi, then go in LAN WIRELESS and change in "improved performance"
All of this do not work for me too...
Go to Wireless LAN settings and there to power mode and set yo best battery.... that worked for me.
in "settings => connections => WiFi" is "Connected". In "Wireless Lan" there is Connected too... In log on my router there is MAC adress of Diamond as associated and authorized. All seems OK. But on Diamond do not work any internet connection (Weather, web, etc...). With Active Sync works fine. Laptop with the same settings works fine. But Diamond with WiFi... no way :-(
Any other suggestions?
Same problem after i made ROM update from 1.7... to 1.93. before works fine. no other software is istalled.
Been having an issue with connecting to my wireless network also for the last week. My phone is from orange in the UK. My wireless router is an Dlink 614+ on Virgin cable broadband.
The Diamond would connect intermittantly but then say 'not avaiable' after a period of time, or when trying to reconnect after diasbling/enabling wi-fi in the comms manager. Also, after restarting my router the device would connect for a while but not seem to 'hold' it's connection.
When the device was 'connected' I could not get opera/youtube to load a page, even though I could see the diamond in my router's log showing it connected with a leased ip address. What made it so annoying was that every other wireless mobile device/laptop I have owned has connected without any problem at all, leading me to beleive there was a problem with the phone. Again, this was rather frustrating as the phone was detecting avaliable networks but just not 'holding' the connection nor 'using' the connection in opera/explorer etc.
After searching on xda-developers and other forums for a possible known issue, I tried all the various suggestions including;
i/ increasing to best performance under power mode in Wireless LAN settings
ii/ Hard reset of router (even though other wireless devices were connected fine)
iii/ trying static rather than dynamic ip for my diamond in router settings
iv/ disabling any security/encryption on my router
v/ entering DNS settings in manually into my diamond
vi/ changing 'connect to' under wi-fi neteorks to 'Work' rather than 'the internet'
vii/ tried various roms
and other suggestions I had read about - all which didn't make a difference!
I was about to send the diamond back to Orange (here in the UK) but decided to give it one last go and change my router. I bought a Netgear WGT624 for 25 quid from PC today world and my diamond connected
straight away without an issue, and opera/youtube/messager all connected straight away to the internet. I have not lost connection once. So thats how I resolved it - obviously my device did not like 802.11b (on the original dlink router) even though all previous smartphones have connected fine and the diamond's wireless adapter is labelled b/g.
Hope that stops anyone wasting a week like I did, I would try it out on another router before making any decisions because the chip in the diamond seems a lot more picky to what it connects to than anything I've used in the past!
cheers
Linksys WAG54 is OK, Freebox is not perfect
It really seems to depend on the WiFi router.
I've had probems with my French Freebox (my ISP's ADSL+wifi router) using WPA2 AES. It would work fine, for half an hour maybe, then it would stop. It says it's connected but there is no data transfer. You can switch WLAN off and on, soft reset the phone... nothing will do. Then it will work again later on.
I downgraded encryption to TKIP and i experienced the same problem.
But then I've tried my old Linksys WAG54G router, using the exact same encryption protocol and key and it works perfectly (for hours)!
I've also tested free access (Paris public Wifi, Mc Donald's...) and they work fine.
As my ISP wifi box does not let me have a look at all the settings (beacon time, etc.) it is very difficult to tell what makes it not-so-compatible with my Diamond... But there must be something.
I've been running 6.1 ROM (Official) now for a month or so and am using a program on my Tilt that uses a lot of data...so while I'm at home I thought I would allow it to use my WiFi router instead of my 3G connection.
I turned on the WiFi and it can "see" my router's SSID. I enter the WPA-TKIP passcode and tell it to connect. It just sits there saying "connecting to network" but never completes the connection to acquire it's IP.
I have even gone as far as setting the IP configuration manually (Static IP) and the TILT keeps trying to connect to the network.
I have a DLink DI-624 that I have had no problems connecting the WiFi when I was running ROM 6.0.
I have done the following in trying to troubleshoot:
- Turned OFF Turbo on the Router
- Configured router for AutoChannel
- Configured TILT for Best Performance
- Rebooted Router AND TILT.
Still no go...Ideas?
I sometimes get this after flashing a new rom. It seems to affect the way it connects to WPA networks but not WEP or unsecured.
You can try changing your security to WEP and see if that works.
But when I need to solve this I usually have to do a Hard Reset and then connect the WIFI first. When it does this the phone seems to be able to auto-detect the network type (i.e without me needing to select it as WPA) and after entering the passcode it can connect.
Yep, go to WEP, this should be enough for most people and has never given me a problem.

Unfortunately I can't change my network to WEP. My network is not only my home network but also used for my wife's business...so for security reasons I have to keep the security up.
Drop the security just for a test and see what happens.
I am using the official ATT 6.1 ROM and it works just fine on my wifi, first with WPA-PSK then with WPA2-PSK. You could set your WAP to WEP (say that fast 3 times!) for a 5 minute test and see if it connects. Does your phone connect to other Wifi hot spots? What does ministumbler say about wifi in your area? You may have some interference with a neighbors wifi.
Well...I know that my issue is not limited to my router at home (DLink DI-624). I'm experiencing the SAME issues at work as well.
At work I'm using a NetGear WGT624 v3.
- The security is WPA-PSK (TKIP)...just like at home.
- Broadcasting SSID on Channel 11 (Fixed). There are no routers in nearby offices (I've checked using a wifi scanner on my laptop).
- I've configured a static IP in my Tilt and it just sits there at Connecting...again same as what happens at my house.
- I have also tried using DHCP with no joy.
I'll try the WEP at home to see if it's a WEP/WPA issue.
Unfortunately if it IS an issue...I don't think I'm going to get much joy from HTC on releasing a fix. Maybe there will be some way around it though...I hope!

Here is what I have set in my TILT...
Connects to: The Internet
Hidden network: NOT checked
Ad-Hoc: Unselectable (Grey)
Auth: WPA-PSK
Encry: TKIP
Use IEEE: Grey (Non-Selectable)
EAP: Grey (Non-Selectable...but Smartcard or Certificate IS in the box)
(Still at work...will test WEP when I get home)

Ok...Now I know for SURE that this is a WPA issue with the TILT running the AT&T ROM 6.1 (Official).
I changed my home router from WPA-PSK (TKIP) to WEP.
Made the needed changes in my TILT to change it from WPA to WEP and entered the correct key.

I change nothing in the router except from WEP back to WPA and again I'm stuck at "connecting" on the TILT.

Is a backing up everything and doing a hard reset too much hassle? Make sure you connect to a WPA Wifi first before installing any other programs. Its the only way I could fix it... =/ As recommended I always do another hard reset straight after flashing a new rom now.
Hey...someone...somewhere has mentioned that there might be a WPA issue in relation to removing the AT&T Bloat. Is there anything to this? I HAVE removed my bloat on my Tilt.
I don't want to have to re-Hard my Tilt...but will if I have to...but only as last resort.
What fixed with my DI-624
I found that I had to upgrade to the newest ROM from D-Link. (I had original ROM from 5 years ago.) I found that the PSK password (using WPA2) could NOT contains shift-numbers such as $, %, #. I converted the symbols to numbers (and letters)and it works fine now. I have had no problems since.

My home router is a DI-624 Rev E. The ONLY Firmware for the E Rev is 5.00 and I'm running it.

All in all...it just seems strange to have to HARD Reset my phone to get something like this to work again.
Hi guys!
I have a Touch Diamond 2. It's great and certainly an upgrade from my Touch Cruise!
I have a strange problem though. Whenever I try to connect through 3G (T-Mobile Netherlands), immediatly after it makes the connection, it gives the dialog 'cannot connect etc'. 3G is truly connected but no data is coming in.
Now I have found where the problem lies, sort of. 3G works fine when I don't configure my home Wifi connection. Whenever I configure that, 3G stops working. It doesn't matter if Wifi is turned on or off. 3G does have a dynamic ip, where my Wifi connection requires a static IP. But I make all these settings in the Wifi part of the configuration screen, the IP details are under the 802.11 b/g network card.
This used to work flawlessy on my Cruise. Anyone have a solution? Thanks!
good morning. as you are with tmobile i'd suggest you are having the same problems as me with tmobile uk. for some reason tmobile sets up a proxy server in your 3g data connection setup, this caused huge problems for me but clearing it solved them all.
try this first and see how you go.
Possible, but where exactly do I change the proxy settings of the 3G connection?

Hey that's a coincidence, just read the same question at GoT
I have similar problems.
Now and than my HSDPA connection works good, but at some moment I just can't reach any website.
Disconnecting and reconnecting to HSDPA sometimes helps, and sometimes I just have to wait a few minutes and than it works again.
I also tried another DNS (OpenDNS) but it doesn't solve the problem,
Proxy settings can be found at (I assume your dutch):
Instellingen> Meer> Verbindingen> Verbindingen> Mijn proxyserver instellen
At my TD2 is no proxy set, so thats not the cause.
Hope sombody else can help!
Do you have a static IP for WIFI as well? I kinda found out that setting WIFI on dynamic IP solves the 3G problem, so somehow they must be connected. But this should be able to work, it's almost as if 3G 'takes over' the static IP from the WIFI settings, but the connection settings from my 3G are offcourse set to dynamic.
I had exactly the same problem with my D2. I also had it on my Cruise with the later ROMs. The official HTC 6.1 ROM did not have this problem.
I experience it when I set up my wifi 802.11b/g network card in the phone to have a static IP address and set the default gateway. If I use DHCP there is no problem.
Setting the wifi card up on the phone DEFINITELY screws up the cellular data connection.

With my dear old Wizard (MDA Vario) I had no problem at all with the same settings!
yup thought i was the only one with this problem need a fix for it soon man otherwise we are gettin bumped for not havin the settings coz we on t-mobile
I solved it temporarily by setting Wifi to dynamic IP, but this prevents me from connecting at work. I'll send HTC an e-mail, let's see if they are willing to hot-fix this one
for me i find that the web sites work but any app that requires to go online ie facebook, msn, sky fire etc jus dont work wen you try to connect online......... stupid t-mobile
My connection problems are gone.
Maybe I (we) encountered hickups with the T-Mobile proxy-server....
maybe You can help me.
I have a MDA V (germany T-Mobile) and i can not connect to my AP here at Home.
I have a ASUS WL500g configured as AP behind my Firewall/Router. All other device in my house, a Laptop, a Netbook and a 'WII' working fine!
All get the IP from the Router, the AP works transparent.
D2 will not connect. The Mac-Address from the D2 is configured in the AP, and i can see the router statuspage and see the MAC of the D2 sometimes in the list. But only as "associated" and never as "associated authorized" as the Laptop here in example:
-------------------------------------------------
Stations List:
-------------
00:23:76:yy:xx:xx associated <-D2
00:1C:BF:yy:xx:xx associated authorized <- Laptop
--------------------------------------------------
I configured a lot in the settings, but i cant get the D2 online with wifi.
Can someone plz help a bit?

other question: if i manage the problem some day, is it possible to configure the Networksettings of the D2 device in the way that the device only use USB and te WiFI-Connection to access the internet? I hat it that the device use mobile-internet connection without asking me to do so.
Same problem

I was experiencing the same problem, only with the difference that I am using 3 different Wi-Fi adapter settings every day (for 3 different networks - two with fixed IP and one with DHCP enabled. Most elegant solution that I came up with was a small, but very handy application called "WiFi Profiles". Settings for WiFi adapter are easily changed by choosing a profile that you want to use and applying it. Before you disconnect from WiFi network, you just set adapter to DHCP, and after that your GPRS/3G/HSDPA connection works like a charm. By the way, I am proud owner of Touch HD but I am using Dutty`s Topaz based rom V3.4 XTREME SHIP.
