Just recieve mine yesterday. More than 10h SoT in a single charge. ¡Insane!
For some reason all the real consumers are having great battery life but it is not reflected in benchmarks tests done by the "reviewers".
Can you compare your battery life with similar usage on the phone you used previously ?

Well only reliable review so far has come from gsmarena.. all other tests are amateur/random tests, but gsmarena has a history/experience and most importantly reliable test pattern judging from my own experience.
Phones which score in between 80-90h in gsmarena battery test (https://www.gsmarena.com/battery-test.php3) are top tier 1 phone in terms of battery performance in real life based on my experience. I change phones almost as often as socks , so my statement is valid.
From my personal experience and usage pattern phones, which score in between 80-90h in gsmarena battery test, have SOT of at least ~5 hours in the heaviest of usage and up to ~8 hours of SOT in more relaxed scenarios. Like for instance OP5 constantly gives ~5 hours of SOT, but when you have long youtube usages together with heavy usage you reach the mentioned ~8hours of SOT.
My usage pattern -> Mostly whatsapp, youtube, chrome, some Spotify and Waze with BT, Location, SYNC always ON.
True the battery life is among the very top league in any case where there are only few top range phones (mid-range phones are not a fair comparison).
That said the we have yet to get an explanation as to why the bigger 4000mAh size battery advantage is not reflected into battery life advantage against other competitors despite Huawei promoting it big that they have a 4000mAh against their competitors. Also why the promised 30% better battery life than Mate 9 is not showing yet. I am eager to read the Anandtech review which is the best in breaking down the details when it comes to explaining all this but on the other hand im hoping they wait 1-2 months for more stable rom before doing their tests.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-10/how-to/battery-life-thread-t3695518
I only use 'daily use' to check the battery life.
I try my best to use it as a normal person and after that i use it how i use it (heavy).
I'm not a fan of benchmark and software to test smartphones, it doesn't always give you the right answer...
Didn't the moto z play get a bad battery review from a benchmarking review site? I used that phone heavy for almost 2 days on a single charge. it was insane!
Even though gsmarena review of Mate 10 pro is not out but they have updated their specs and the battery test score is listed now. Mate 10 pro gets a 96h, making it an undoubted beast in battery life. So if all true, then the FHD+ oled combination did help over the Mate 10 standard. And also for comparison, the smaller 5.5 inch display Mate 9 pro which was QHD had a 87h score.

Yeah Anandtech is the best. Made me buy my Mate 8 though the 10 is coming because it's obviously a huge improvement over 2 generations. I bet they will have a review up by January. Bit late but thorough as usual.

I had the Mate 8 9 and 10. Have to be honest, the battery on the 9 sucked but the 10 is amazing. I was initially reserved but just the other day i was down to 25% by end of day and i have about 4.5 hours SOT. This was a first for me and i did not do any tweaking. Ive never had a phone go past 3 hours SOT and i have cycled through a ton of phones. So if you're an out of the box guy with only a few simple tweaks like wifi, bluetooth and gps off, this phone is going to be a dream. I left the screen at 2k mind you.
So can we all agree if the Mate 10 gets an average of 5hrs + of SOT then this is what is expected of a 4000mAh battery?
Is SOT the best measure for battery life or is standby/usage hours (eg: 16-18 hours use) the better measure?
I get mixed SOT between 5 - 7 hours max.
My usage is around 17 - 18 hours max.
I would say I am a heavy user.
How on earth people get 10 hrs SOT baffles me.

just learn to ignore that its always been like that (user posting crazy,in-explainable SOT times), even with phones which have the ****-yest of battery life out-there.
I look at this the following way - if my phone has +5.5" screen I am more than happy if I get ~5-7hours of SOT during heavy usage

Even if that were to be true, I don't care as long as I hit ~6-7hours of SOT with my usage pattern.
Don't get me wrong. I am not trying to challenge/refute your statement or the result you can reach. See, usage patterns vary from person to person, therefore I tend to reserve my judgement whether this or that phone is bad in terms of battery life before I actually use it. The only source I do trust judging from my own experience is gsmarena battery test -> any phone that has gsmarena endurance rating in between 80-100hours will be great SOT/battery life performance wise for me. Phones in that endurance rating range have always been great in terms of SOT considering my usage pattern and I consider great any phone that can do ~6hours of SOT on a 5.5"+ screen . That's about it.
p.s. one great example of SOT results was my experience with OP5. With regular daily heavy usage I was getting ~6h of SOT on single charge, but when I mixed in super long hours of youtube that same cycle would be give 10h of SOT, but it would be rather misleading to claim that OP5 is a 10h SOT phone, since its simply better @videoplayback in terms of battery consumption.. usage patterns differ from person to person and the results vary a lot depending on what the particular device is better at..

Seems weird, but I could be on 1 of the 2 things: display efficiency or resolution.
Resolution, strangely, didn't affect other phones that much.
But this can be testes with EMUI by lowering it to FHD, according to other members here.
I can't verify this, but when I buy this phone, if it's possible, I'll definitively lower the resolution. (I can't notice the difference)
The non pro is still almost no where to be found in Europe, right?
I found myself seeking threads in these forums about different ROM's and SOT obtained. The results were way different between different users, some claim to get 2.5h SOT some 5h SOT under normal circumstances.
Under normal circumstances I never get more than 3h and I suspected that my worn battery (598 charge cycles according to "Charge Cycle Battery Stats" app) was far from the original 3000mAh.(Thats a manufacturer stat obtained in perfect conditions, real world must be around 2800mAh)
I needed to measure the capacity left in mAh,so I bought a USB ammeter power meter (Keweisi white digits, but you don't need it, I'll explain later).
Using the Power meter, to measure properly you need to avoid thermal loss and power loss when charging:
- Note 5 completely discharged at 1 or 2% battery left.
- Disconnect the Fast charge option in Android.
- From start to finish keep the note 5 Switched off.
- Use an USB low power charger, mine was charging at 0.8A
Results: 1800mah that's far from the 2800mAh(3000mAh) when new.
(Same test I'm getting 2200mAh out of the original 2800mAh on my old Galasy S5 Neo.)
You don't need USB ammeter, Android has a builtin ammeter calculator(estimation).
Today I depleted the battery (2% left) of my note 5 again (Rom based on Android 7.0) and under battery usage I added all the "Computed Power Usage" in mAh giving the next results:
mAh
557 Cell standby (I worked underground today)
333 Screen 2h53m (30% brightness and auto brightness on)
271 Device Idle
221 chrome
203 Android OS
43 Google Play Serv.
39 Androyd System
27 Youtube
20 Yahoo Mail
20 Wi fi
17 com.android.systemui
Total: 1751mAh
This result shows that the phone itself makes a good estimation of mAh juice available in you battery.
As an anecdote I run the same test that Jerryrigeverything in YT with his Note 5(6 month of use): Playing a 2k video in 100% brightness( auto brightness off) with sound and in Flight Mode(not even wifi). He gets 6h20m, I surprisingly get 6h. But those test are only worth to compare Note 5's
Conclusions(my own and humble): Surprising degradation of my battery, specially compared with the results obtained in my S5 Neo. According to "battery university" (a good scientific source of information about Lithium-Ion) I might have shorten the life of my battery abusing of the fast charge mode.

That's the next step, find a good provider and compare capacities.
What I know so far is that there's 2 different battery models:
EB-BN920ABE The most common, but most reviews complain about being 4 or 5 mm shorter, ...less volume less capacity.
EB-BN920ABA Difficult to find, It seems the original replacement according to this picture:
https://ae01.alicdn.com/kf/UTB8YQ_yanzIXKJkSafVq6yWgXXa0.jpg The original is the right side one.
I found a Canadian provider who seems serious (free of fantasy marketing) who also ships worldwide, it looks like the original, (or a extremely good copy) I'm going to take the risk and try it:

How did it go? Those eBay batteries tend to be pretty bad in my experience.
Finally someone else is concerned about note 5 battery capacity, i replaced mine with an original one in feb 2018 from a nearby samsung service center for $40, i used Accubattery app to measure and compare the battery capacity of the old vs the new battery.
After two years of usage and fast charging enabled in all of charge sessions, the old battery was giving me 76% (2291 mAh) of the original capacity, while the new one is giving me 89% (2675 mAh) right now, the weird thing is that it was giving me 90% right when i purchased it, i dont know if this is normal or not.
As for SOT, the old battery was giving me 2.5 hours on average, with an average of 17 hours of total usage, the new one gives me 3.5 to 4 hours with an average of 20 hours of total usage (disconnect at 100% from charger and drained to 1% or 2%)
Hope you find this post helpful

I'm in the same boat as you. My battery life blows and I am looking for a decent replacement so I don't have to buy a new phone. How did that one work out for you?
Hi all.
I have written a comment to another created threat in mi 9 forum, but I would like to read your comments here too.
I'm having battery draining and SOT problems with my mi 9, like I said in title (like most people I think).
I have tried everything to improve my battery life in my mi 9, and It's not bad at all, but I was expecting better performance for a top xiaomi smartphone with sd 855 and 5 months old in spite of the fact that it has "only" 3300mah battery ...
I'm not a heavy user and I try to get max SOT and minimum battery drain in all my phones, because I don't like changing smartphones very often and I like to take care of it.
I came from a Moto G4 plus, and I had 5h of SOT in 48h without high standby drainage (maybe 1-2% of drainage overnight in 7-9h) with a 3 years old battery and worst hardware and software. In mi 9, I'm getting 5-6h of SOT in 48-72h. Not bad at all, but standby drainage is awfull. It loses 20-25% of the battery every 48h (3-5% overnight), and in a smartphone with such a fair battery it's a problem. If I'm not getting great results with not heavy use and my smartphone is new, I don't want to think in 2-3 years + mid-heavy use ... I have tried everything (full wipes, reinstalling, the most powerfull battery saving, etc) and I don't have great result. Standby drainage is very hight compared to other phones (I have tried a friend poco f1 and I had 10h in 48-72h with 1% overnight drainage. It was awsome).
And now the question ...
I'm thinking of changing my mi 9 for a huawei mate 20... I still have the 30d Amazon refund and I am not comfortable with my phone's battery.
- Mate 20 pros vs mi 9: +700 mah battery and more efficient, the best ips panel without burn-in problem, and fingerprint sensor behind the screen (no like too much in-screen fingerprint at all).
- Pros mi 9 vs mate 20: sd 855 (but geekbech it's very very similar, and antutu winner is mi 9 only for gamming but mate 20 still on top), unlocking bootloader for mi 9 (better comunity in xda, but if emui works well I think I don't need custom rooms, the problem here is Trump/google vs China ... but now apeares to be solved and we would have newer updates to Android Q), wireless charging (I don't use it because smartphone is hotter when charging 3-5º vs cable+1,5a charger, It takes more time to charge with elevated temperature), not jack (better for waterproof), maybe very little better cameras in mi 9 and little better results, 4 months younger (very little difference) and It's the top phone on xiaomi (mate 20 is the little brother because we have mate 20 pro, 20x, p30, p30 pro and we will have soon mate 20 and mate 20 pro; and that could be worst because we will get latter uptdates in mate 20).
What do you think? Would you change mi 9 for mate 20? Reading your comments. Greetings.
If your looking for better battery life I'd say get the mate 20. I've had mine for just under 3 months. Best damn purchase I've ever made (purchased way below retail during trump ban). I consider myself a medium to heavy user (I don't play mobile games however). With some useless features turned off and some fetch services disabled. I can easily get 8-10 hrs on screen time with this phone, it's the best battery life I've ever had, prior I was getting 4hrs with another Android phone.

Just a month ago I had Poco F1. On the battery Sot was similar to the 20 mate. Night drainage in Poco 1-3%, mate 2-5%. Mate saves better on screen on. Performance similar to Poco. If I had to exchange Mi9, it was on mi9t Pro.
Hi, thanks for any help.
I'm between a mi 11 or a OnePlus 8/9 pro and the only thing I'm concerned about is whether MIUI might be a bit buggy or 'incomplete' feeling - seen mixed things on the forum. I've read many of the reviews so know most of the basics re battery / camera etc.
Generally with the stock ROMs do people find they have any frequently annoying issues?
It's also a bit quieter than other phones with custom ROMs - is that because it's a newer handset or is it unlikely that these will be developed?
People generally happy with their purchase?
Thanks for your help

What do you mean?
For me mi 11 is the phone with best battery life of all phones I had. I think battery is very good, but probably if you are a heavy gamer it won't last that long. But then no phone will last 2 days with top performance. It is like wanting a race car but no gas consumption.
I find the battery life good enough I get around 6-7 sot that must be around similar to other high end using similar spec also don't forget this actually is cheaper , fhd 120hz , fhd because I cant notice the difference
The battery life is really not that bad.. It easily lasts me through the whole day, with 5-6hrs of SOT (120HZ, 1440P resolution always on) Also the included charger is really fast, so even if the battery life is not the best, it can be easily fully charged in 35-40minutes.
Hey guys , I'm near a week with the OnePlus 10 Pro ,Chinese version flashed with NE2215 EU rom ,but I'm not sure if it's only mi idea or my life battery ir worse than average ,I'm using Oxygen OS 13 right now, and coming from an Asus ROG phone 5 with 6000 mAh battery, so I'm not sure if maybe the conversion to NE2215 from NE2210 hasta some relation .
So if you can share your average SOT and detail the model of your phone I will appreciate a lot .
I've already made a thread about SOT, it's difficult to see threads these days seeing as XDA had made forum changes and done away with the long established categories.
My average is 8 hours with a max of 10 hours 41
I actually use gsambattery to get a better realistic screen on time usage for my device.
Android new way of showing you your screen on time is very deceptive in my option.
For me battery life with this device has been ok I get like 4-5 hours screen on time with like 20-15% but I expected better with the larger battery and the LTPO2 screen that they brag about. And this is with AOD off.
