For starters I just got Mi8 and am planning to go for Havoc or Pixel Experience there is a Pixel Port too I'll have to try which is best close to stock but with gestures features and full fledged Gcam support

I have seen many threads where newer folks are victim of their devices getting bricked and paying for fix?
Why isnt there a proper guide thread to avoid these obstacles and spread awareness out ?
I know there are certain partitions you need to backup too e.g efs in case of lost IMEI there was a thread Its hell I have been through it with a Samsung Device,There was a guy who messed up his phone sensor files?
But most of all EDL and Devices getting brick so lets address the elephant in the room

Part 1 ( The OP is general info ) Below the first couple of comments have detailed steps for AOSP.
Be extremely careful, unfortunately this community doesn't have a lot of highly active professionals.
So definitely double check any advice that you are given, or that you find. With that being said there are definitely several members that are mature, knowledgeable, friendly and overall fantastic.
If you need help, feel free to ask me anytime, I haven't had a lot of time to use XDA recently. But if I am around, I am always willing to help. As long as your account is bound to your device, unbricking is pretty easy with these phones. If you want to avoid a brick, avoid brand new builds, test software etc. Some of the recent issues actually stemmed from the 7.11 china developer rom which had a major issue.
if you want to use Miui with zero ads, and every single feature, then Mi-Globe is pretty great, and solid on a week to week basis.
As far as AOSP, I feel that in my experience that Syberia is practically always highly stable, but it's a little plain compared to some other roms. I also liked Pixel 3, Bootleggers ( Newer version) and Havoc. ( I used Havoc in the beginning of July and loved it, that build is fantastic)
I haven't tried a lot of AOSP roms on this phone yet. So that is all I have
Addition to that, the main issue is people are using Miflash to flash a ROM from bootloader. DO NOT USE IT.
Just use the flash_all.bat in the fastboot rom zip, it's easy. Miflash chooses to lock bootloader by default, and if you don't change it, you'll need to use EDL to fix your device. People usually forget about it, and will whine here to be able to unbrick. Don't be one of them
Don't relock the damn bootloader. It's unnecessary, and dangerous on a Chinese machine.

We ok that to unlock bootloader on mi8 we have to use mi "flash" unlock tool. Right?

Yes, that is the only way to unlock. he was talking about using Mi Flash to flash roms, which may seem to be user friendly which it is but is also extremely dangerous because the the option to lock the bootloader is checked by default. If using it make sure that its unchecked and you should not have any issues.
Personally, I prefer ADB if flashing via fastboot or TWRP with a OTG flash drive.
Also there is a tool that is excellent that I have also used many times, its called Tool all in One ( TAIO) After your bootloader is unlocked, you can use TAIO for many functions, including keep your PC's ADB platform tools, up to date, and providing system wide access. You can use it to remove encryption, flash recovery, root, roms or to restore to stock. It definitely worth installing if if you only use it to keep your drivers, and platform tools up to date.

My device is Global Mi8 bootloader is locked for now I still have some hours left I'll be able to unlock it by 26th
miflash_unlock prompted to bind my account from developer option for unlocking,I did so it will be bound to my account and ill be unlocking it for first time I believe i bought it used but previous owner seemed to have know info about ROMs though
I have been using Pixel 2XL twice followed by Nokia 8 so I am much more inclined towards AOSP stock experience the two feature I would love to have from MIUI are the
1)MIUI gestures
2)MIUI Dual Apps (I am aware of Play store alternatives but clash of clans doesnt work as good on them as on dual apps )
I know gestures are on Havoc
guess you guys have been playing around with your mi8 kindly guide me to right directrion what ROMs you guys prefer and why ?
how would you prefer to flash a ROM do I need to back up any partitions ? if so which app should use for it ,Ill surely back up everything via TWRP for sure
also the encryption thingy should I sign out my google account before bootloader unlock and other stuff?

There's a primary bootloader that we consumer know of and there's Qualcomm's Emergency Download Mode bootloader (EDL) , since Mi8 has ARB(Anti Rollback) downgrading the phone gets it bricked to EDL mode requiring EDL authentication to my understanding thats why edl is a thing(since its just emergency bootloader for oems to work with) I have not experienced it personally so I don't know whether it bricks that way or not but ARB and EDL authentication are a thing with Mi8 from what I have read in different threads

EDL is Qualcomm recovery mode, it's the mode that you must be in to restore a hard bricked phone.
As long as you are careful you should never need to worry about EDL. Basically, you place the phone into a mode that the computer is able to recognise port 9008, once that is down you can use 1 of 4 techniques to restore your phone. Unbricking Xiaomi's is actually very easy to do, as long as the device is bound to your account.
The big issue is that unscrupulous Chinese vendors, used their own account to unlock bootloaders of Mi8's and other Xiaomi devices, then installed the Global Miui ROM and then sold the phone as new to unsuspecting western customers and at a lower price than western outlets such as Amazon. These vendors marketed the phones as Ïnternational versions" when they were actually Chinese devices and not the Global version that the customer thought they bought.
When these customer's used programs such as MiFlash to upgrade their phone's their bootloaders were locked and the are unable to log into their Mi Account to restore the phone. Remember the vendors unlocked the phone, so these Mi8's were bound to the vendor and not the final customer. This is the Primary reason why Xiaomi makes us wait to unlock the bootloader. Finally, ARB is potential issue, but it hasn't been implemented yet on Global devices.
So do your research before flashing anything and you should be safe.

I'm a bit concerned about my mi8. Since several weeks now the phone is getting so slow to boot, even into recovery mode !
For exemple, today before starting to see the havoc logo spinning I count more than 20 spins. Months ago it took only 5 or 6, 2 weeks ago : more than 8... Etc.
When phone is started first apps tha usualy open really fast (Viper4fx, gsam battery monitor, magisk notifications) are so slow to open. Some other apps same thing the moment I open them.
What do you think about that ? At first I thought my battery is dead. It charges as fast as usual. Discharging is like before I'd way. Not worst for sure So I hope Its nor that.
I'm using battery charge limit (the app, nor from havoc sertings) to stop at 81% and charge it always when the minimum reaches 40%. So for battery life I think I'm doing things well.
I'm still on pie. Please, see the attached picture to look at my version.
I'm wondering what could cause this big issue.
I'm used my make lot of backups with twrp 3.3.1-1. Sometimes 2 per days, sometimes none in 2 or 3 days and so from the day I unlocked the phone and installed my first and only rom : havoc. Sure I installed several updates but no other ROM and I stopped updating it cause it worked really as I expect it should. So...
Also, making twrp backups are Soooo slow. Generaly it tooks depending of the size, between 90 sec and 140. Now it takes more than 6 min !!
So before doing a last backup and do anything I wanted to ask what you all think about that before doing a clean install update/upgrade.
Do you think it worth the try ?
I tried to clear caches (both) in twrp. Nothing :/
I'm afraid I killed my phone memory or battery. Don't really know.
Last thing, maybe an important one but don't know why it would... I installed notify & fitness and sleep as Android for my mi band 4 and I noticed my phone getting slow during this period. About N&F it was on 12.27.2019.
The firmware was updated way after that issue... And of course I cleaned all app caches manualy, not using some weird app to do the job.
Sorry me for this long SOS, and please forgive my bad english. I'm starting to being crazy. OK, the phone works but oooh boy, Its slow.

Your rom software is out of date. if you truly want the best experience on a daily basis. There is no doubt in my mind that Xiaomi.EU is still the absolute best experience overall.
It is light years better than the Global stock Rom, all of the bloat has been removed and it has some of the Pixel AOSP features integrated into the Rom. but yes it's still miui. For me that is a good thing because I am a fan. It sounds like you have never tried Xiaomi.EU so give it a shot. I guarantee, that if you keep it installed for a few days, you will not want anything else unless you are just bored. Wait until the new update comes out, it should be late today or tomorrow. by the way, you will average about 7.5 -8.5 hours SOT.
On the other hand, if you are content with Havoc, then migrate to the latest, Its pretty great but the battery SOT time is bad right at 4 hours. This can be improved by changing the kernel. I tested the LawRun_x5.0-60hz kernel and it improves SOT to 5.5 hours, and the OS gennnerally runs better. Other Roms are also good, but lack the abundance of features that Havoc has. A comparable heavily feature rich rom is CRDroid.
If you want to stay on your current rom, then clean your caches, and at least upgrade the kernel. That alone may be enough to improve your recent performance. i dont think you phone is going bad. You likely just have some corruption, or too many processes running in the background.

I did use Xiaomi MIUI for very long time. Since I got my first Redmi Note 4. As you well said, I did switch to custom ROMs for what you said.
Regarding SOT... And the reason why I didn't update anything on my Mi8 its because with this version of havoc and this kernel. Gsam bat monitor tells me now : 9h41 (5h58 Max) and before my issue it was 11h !
So, to answer you : before asking here I also trying to update the Rev kernel but lot of things didn't work anymore. Like unlock the phone with my fingers and I think its pretty much normal as Havoc as evolved so kernel did the same and is not compatible with older version I think. At least, mine...
Honestly I tried lot of things to make my havoc super speed, smooth with a great battery and I was happy with that

I don't know what to do cause I'm not 100% sure that starting from clean MIUI or custom rom will fix it. What if not ? I'll "forced" to reinstall "everything" (I'm aware of backup apps but dont wanna use them) even if I saved all important stuffs
And if I badly revert to the last MIUI (I never reinstalled MIUI after a custom ROM. I know there is good tuto, but...) I could break it and I'll loose everything. For now it works, slowly OK ^^' but I rather that than taking a risk and found what is the cause of my problem.

The current version of Havoc already uses the Revolution kernel, and its part of the current problem so use something else. The Law kernel that I mentioned is extremely good. but so are the others latest release such as Mipa and Twisted. and no fingerprint issues with these kernels.
As a longtime user you do know that anytime you switch the kernel that you should remove all passkeys, screenlocks, face unlock etc.? This could explain the slowness, you have encryption issues.
Android 10 is much improved over pie, except for the battery 11 hours SOT is unheard of on Android 10. Except for 1 guy claiming 11 hours on the ION rom. I tried the rom and it is good. but I am only getting 7 hours Sot, and the Rom is like Lineage, just the basics. No fingerprint issues.
You truly need a full clean install, including formatting storage. just backup your files first.
Xiaomi Miui? Did you mean Xiaomi.EU? if not Xiaomi.EU , then you really should try it, you wouldn't know from a past experience. This is Miui 11 on Android 10 and its flawless.

Yep, I note all what you said to me. But to be honest last year anytime I switched from kernels to kernels I never had to reset screenlock etc. Last year cause as I said once I found the kernel which suits me I stuck with it.
So I can state its note related to that cause I didn't change it since month trust me, just tried the last kernel one or week ago to be sure if it was the cause or not. Just installed and uninstalled apps since.
look at this screenshot you'll see what I meant about SOT which was better month ago. :/ Maybe I didn't explain well...
I'm not against trying any roms including xiaomi.eu perhaps (I do have links for this I think but any link is appreciated just in case. I just download the lastest stable 11 from xiaomi.eu if its what you have in mind) but I want to be sure if it'll fix what I'm facing. You know ?

You posted a question asking for help, but then you dont want to try anything because you tried things before. Yes, its true that Magisk is sometimes persistent, but it depends on the release. it is safer to remove the passkeys.
But if you really think about it, what would cause the phone to cool down, ignore the battery stats especially from Gsam it's often very wrong, I use it too, for years and in your case you are getting good SOT because you have a zero % for the phone. It's almost like a Sim card isn't installed? Every rom will provide extremely fantastic SOT when a sim card isn't being used. If you have an active sim card then something is wrong with the monitoring because Gsam is showing 0%, it should show something even if you havent made a phone call for days.

I still think that you have encryption or corruption issues and its bad enough for your to make a post about it. FYI : The battery dying doesnt slow down the phone. Yes, some stock roms, notably Apple intentionally by choice changed the kernel core settings automatically on aging batteries. Hence the huge controversy a couple of years ago, that isn't happening to you.
A dying battery doesn't slow down the phone, evn cold solder joints do not slow down the phone, they keep a phone from booting to system and to recovery. The only thing left is corruption or thermals, which on this phone good luck editing thermals because they are mostly encrypted. The remaining possibility is corruption, post your log files and lets see what's actually going on.
Again, what would slow down your phone even in recovery?
It's always thermals, or corruption. Slow to start up, even in recovery.: We can rule out thermals unless your battery temp or cores temps are extremely high. This leaves corruption. if its slow while booted into the system, then you may have apps or processes crashing and you are not aware of it. If that is true, then eventually the phone may stop booting up altogether. If its thermals causing overheating you should truly resolve this issue immediately before actual heat damage occurs. Did you ever flash display refresh rate mods? If so your DTBO partition could be the issue....corruption.
Use this program to provide an app list : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.onyxbits.listmyapps ( Weed out any unknown programs that you may not realise are installed. Post the list along with complete logs. Once you see these crashes, that I am sure the logs will show: Do as I suggested earlier: wipe and "format" your phone. Then later use best practices and remove passwords before changing kernels

You could remove password under data/system/locksettings.bin But it's better to just go the settings//security/ *.* < remove whatever you have setup : prints and face unlock first before, pattern or pin.
Another good practice for Android 10, should you go there is :
Extract the boot image from the rom
Place it inside the downloads folder.
When ready to flash root, patch to the boot image first, ( this links the existing system binary credentials into the boot image)
Boot to recovery flash boot to boot
Then flash magisk > then boot to system and you will have no issues whatsoever with root.
Afterwards, if you decide to flash different kernel, Magisk is more likely to stay stay persistent.

Did you fix it? Because it's happening to my Mi 8 too. It's exactly the same issue, the phone takes a long time to boot up, to open apps and even to boot into TWRP
I have that issues on my mi8
I had this problem with me before and I solved it by flashing the last official ROM, Now the problem happened to me again and I do not know what is the reason behind it @tsongming

I recently had some issues with my phone as well. I was able to get my phone back to normal functioning by flashing the latest stable fastboot rom using the flashall.bat method. (dipper_global_images_V11.0.3.0.QEAMIXM_20200118.0000.00_10.0_global)
I kept everything stock for a few days even recovery, to ensure once that everything was back to normal.
Next I flashed the latest OrangeFox beta recovery, and I highly recommend the latest beta build over any other version of Recovery, it will decrypt when official Twrp will not. It is now more up to date than the LR Team version, and all of the bugs have been solved by DarthJabba. In fact, he even added a script to work around poorly designed startup scripts, which are suprisening not consistent between the wide range of custom roms for the Mi8.
Today, I am still using Orange Fox, ( OrangeFox-R10.1_002-Beta-dipper) and the latest stable Magisk. I no longer have freezing, unexpected shutdowns, slow starts, or poor battery life. My issue was without a doubt corruption, and bugs with the mid february version of Xiaomi.EU. The last 2 releases have been solid.
Since this weekend I face the same problem. Every action seems to bit slower than before. And I don't know what I did that resulted in this problem. The last thing I remember I installed was the new Miui12 live backgrounds. But I deleted them again.
I'm on stock since some weeks.
But I don't want to install everything from the beginning again.
Do you know how to solve the problem without wiping everything?
Edit: As I think about it, it seems as if the caching of the apps doesn't work as good as before and the killing of apps is too aggressiv.
But what did affect it?
Edit: I found the solution for my problem.
With Android Battery Historian was able to find the process that made the trouble.
It was the Miui wallpaper carousel app. After deleting it the problems were gone.

it's a hardware issue and it's going to keep coming back, i spent the last two months trying to resolve it but i gave up.
it seems that UFS chip malfunctions on a lot of F1 and mi8 phones.

Sorry for repling only now guys...
Thx to all who proposed to solve my issue, I will tell you what I did to fix my mi 8.
I did a crystal clean flash :
- downloaded & installed last miui image using miflash
- used "clean all" at the bottom right (be careful to not choose something else like "lock boot loader ")
- then you'll need to flash recovery (twrp), then format data by typing yes. Then copy from where you want your custom rom, flash it flash magisk and boot.
I did this several months from now and my phone is like just new!
No issue at all since.
I guess installing lot of different kernels like I did before must have broken something and hopefully this could help if you dont have more serious issues.
Ps: battery is more than ok and there is no hardware problem.

I can confirm this.
I have been unrooted on stock for a few months now and have had no problems since then.
Hello, I have the slow issue (Androbench app with poor performances) after several dates when I have rooted my phone: Mi8 Chinese version with stock global ROM.
After unroot the phone, several days after, the phone works fine with Androbench app with good performances.
I need root my phone to use Magisk hide for Google Pay in order to avoid the Google block for contactless payment.
Can anybody help me about the understanding of this behaviour?
I do not know the reason why the phone is slow after root and why the phone works fine after several days after rooting.

Hello, I have the slow issue (Androbench app with poor performances) after several dates when I have rooted my phone: Mi8 Chinese version with stock global ROM.
After unroot the phone, several days after, the phone works fine with Androbench app with good performances.
I need root my phone to use Magisk hide for Google Pay in order to avoid the Google block for contactless payment.
Can anybody help me about the understanding of this behaviour?
I do not know the reason why the phone is slow after root and why the phone works fine after several days after rooting.

Didn't try to unroot it if there is a difference like you describe.
Can't help you with magisk hide. I don't use it.

Hello, yes in my case. Sometimes, with wipe all, internal storage included, the problem it solved.
Recently I have the issue again without root: only with custom rom flashed. Several times the issue was reproduced out of my habitual site during vacances.

I have a Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 Pro, and yesterday I made the grave mistake of hitting that "update" button. What used to be a close to perfect smartphone turned into a pile of trash with about 10 GREAT functions REMOVED. Instead they added 10 new phone-destroying functions which make this phone close to unusable for me at the moment.
That being said, I obviosuly want to downgrade my phone to the version it came with apparently is V12.0.15.0.RKFMIXM (Global). Is it safe to downgrade to this version from the version I'm on now 12.5.1? Even if it's not safe, could you please tell me how likely it is that my phone ends up bricked?

If you have updated it using Official Updater app, then there is a high risk of bricking your phone. It depends on ARB index.
Try flashing Fastboot ROM using Mi Flash tool. If it's not safe to downgrade, Mi Flash will prevent you from flashing it.

I have not, because I have not received the update on my device yet. However I don't expect them to fix these god-awful "updates" in the next update, hence I'd rather just downgrade, which I'll probably try to do tomorrow. 12.0.15.0 was absolutely perfect (the version it came with) and I KNEW I shouldn't have updated ((

I have another Xiaomi I don't care about which ALSO has the horrible 12.5.1. Since I don't care about this device I'll try downgrading it tomorrow, and if it works I'll do it again with my Redmi Note 10 Pro

Can you tell me your biggest complains? What I don't like about my current version is the 10 seconds always on display, and not being able to select an icon pack for the system launcher. Do you have those features on 12.5.1?

No, installing a Fastboot ROM requires your device to have an unlocked bootloader.

DON'T update! Here's a list of the worst ones:
1) They REMOVED the progress bar from the media players on the lock screen, so now you CAN'T scroll through music and audio directly from the lock screen.
2) The screen automatically shuts off after 5 seconds after receiving a notification and there's NO WAY to increase it, making it impossible to read more than 1 notification.
3) When swiping/deleting the last notification the notification screen automatically closes REGARDLESS if you had a media player or something else you wanted to check out, so now they're forcing you to open it up again every time you close the last notification.
4) The notification screen now has a non-removable "No notifications" text, as if I needed someone to TELL me that. Completely unnecessary and ugly as crap.
Note that these are NOT bugs, but features, so if you update you're never getting these features back.
I use a smartphone when I work and this crap only makes things harder for me! Downgrading today!
EDIT: These are ONLY my main issues, the whole update is super buggy and laggy ALL AROUND, so be prepared to add aother 100 bugs and glitches to that list!

The recovery rom is for TWRP, fastboot rom is of course fastboot flashing.

I downloaded the fastboot load because it's easier to install. Great news, I downgraded my Redmi Note 7 without issue and it's working flawlessly! Then I tried unlocking my Note 10 Pro, but it's telling me to wait 168 hours. Can I use it during that time? Because I kind of need to.

I thought you were asking about the method that described in the link I shared, which needs Recovery ROM. If you have unlocked bootloader, you have plenty of possibility.

Yes you can. But don't touch any options in Developer settings related to unlocking procedure. Specially do NOT logout Mi Account.
If you are going to unlock, you should try MIUI EU ROM first, It might solve your problem.

Sorry I mean after unlocking your bootloader, you should try EU ROM first (before flashing official ROM).
These threads have to many things going on, and now I am thoroughly confused. I just want to go to global from stock T-Mobile. I have downloaded so many things and I don't know what to use or not use. I have network unlocked and my bootloader is unlocked. I can enter fastboot and fastbootd.

There is no way to do it as of now. No one bothered making a conversion from T-Mobile to global with the 10 as there is no reliable MSM tool in case something were to go wrong in the conversion process. The most you can do on the T-Mobile version is unlock and root right now. I personally would love to be on global instead of T-Mobile firmware, but I doubt it will happen with the 10 Pro (although there is work being done on getting a useable MSM tool currently, so who knows).

For root? Just use the global patched boot.img and boot into OS, go to Magisk and perform a direct install. No issues at all with root on T-Mobile firmware. I've been rooted ever since they allowed us to unlock the bootloader and get our tokens.

Yeah, technically should work. Unfortunately the risk is too high without having the MSM in case something goes wrong. Especially if it's your daily phone, like it is mine. But if anyone wants to give it a go, let us know how it goes, just know it could brick your phone and there's no current way to restore it without sending it to OnePlus or paying a scam artist to restore it.

Can I get my boot.img off of my phone or do I need to download it? Also the 10 pro is not listed in the software on the oneplus website. Where can I get the official stuff I need? Im happy with just root for now, I just want to use Magisk and do the updates......

The only downside I could see then it's that we don't even have the full T-Mobile firmware to flash back to in case it starts to flash global but then failed. I'm tempted to take the plunge and try (would be nice to be on Android 13 now instead of waiting months for T-Mobile to get the update) but just don't want to end up bricking with no way to recover. Also, in the past I know people were using the MSM to convert to global or EU, does using the global downgrade script alone work for converting? I might take a look at your guide for the 9 series and try with the 10 pro. I guess I can always send it in if it does brick, still have my 9 pro I can use in case something goes wrong.

That was only fixed with an MSM Tool modded to get me back on regular global 9 firmware.

Well I'm taking the plunge so I'll update after if it's successful or not. Was able to delete all the COW partitions and start the flash no issue, so just have to wait for it to finish.

I will say this is my 2nd 10 pro because I did this exact method being described and it flashed rebooted all that but when trying to open any app I was greeted with a message that said.. "this app has been disabled due to security".

Yeah, don't think it's going to work. Can't fully get out of the setup screen (or if you do it just stays at black screen only able to pull down quick settings and not enter options or anything). Wiped after flashing and won't work. I guess I could try using Fastboot Enhance to flash some of the global update zips and see if that does anything.
From what I've seen and read, switching regions on this phone is quite easy. You just need to use the full downgrade zip of that region and flash it basically. No messing around with FBE. NE2210/3/5/7 all share the same hardware, the full downgrade zips are actually interchangeable from what I've read/seen. There's only been one full zip for NE2217 released, IIRC, so the process to go back would involve a lot of upgrading incrementally. EDIT: I was wrong. There is no true full T-Mobile NE2217 ZiP available.. really sad.
But to go to/from NE2213 to/from NE2215, just take the downgrade zip, with a fully unlocked bootloader, and local update it.
Someone can correct if I'm wrong, but this seems to be the method most people have been using with success. That being said, as said above, root is very easily achievable by just BOOTing a patched global boot.img if you just want to root and maintain your original software.

I haven't really heard of anyone converting the 10 due to lack of MSM. Also, haven't seen any full zips for the 2217 (T-Mobile version), so if you have a link to it that would be very useful. Also on 2217, you can't flash from in system as it's disabled in firmware (unless the separate apk works).
Stalk the forums enough, I think I've read every post here since I got the device back in March. There's a handful of people here successfully converted regions without any extra work. I believe there are actually 2 now for 2217. Here and here.
EDIT: As mentioned later in the thread even these are not full images for NE2217.

True, you won't need twrp or any recovery at all to flash gsi.
Step to flash twrp/recovery is optional if you want to get rooted because fastboot doesn't have sideload function. Unless you go for KernelSU, it's a different topic.
Nowadays twrp function starts to decease, unless you need to dump/backup partition without root. I use included recovery from rom for A/B dynamic device

I bet if the buyers smart enough, they'll mostly will pass buying this. The price is closer to almost a mint second hand of Poco F4, offering almost better in everything except for maybe the main sensor (ov64b vs. imx766). And here we are Poco F4 has already a headstart in custom rom community.
And if you're willing to let go the OIS, Poco F3 isn't that bad either, price nowadays should be the same, its only disadvantages are slower charging and again, main sensor (imx586 vs imx766).
And the last, not to mention that Poco F5 is just around the corner... That should put some coffin nails to Redmi note 12 Pro.

What I said was: if you're looking for a particular good phone with a good custom roms support, and if you want it now, or very quickly from now, Poco F4 is already here, and its price is very close to Note 12 Pro with same feature and even more potent SoC. And if custom roms in Poco F4 aren't adequate, there's also Poco F3, its community is more active than F4, new one old stock F3 should be priced similar to Note 12 Pro, only if you're willing to loose the fast 67w charger and OIS in Note 12 Pro.

Redmi Note 8 Pro is the most active for MTK device as far as I know, and for more two years consecutive after its release, it was ridden by a lot of issues. It was ironed out very lately, just after A12 out, and sadly most people has already moved out. Another one was Redmi Note 9 and Redmi 9, merlin and lancelot, again, most their roms stay on A11 firmware because latest A12 firmware gives a lot of headache. I've seen some development on Note 10s (evoX) and Poco M4 Pro (ported roms?), which those are MTK, but again, they're very slow and they had been released earlier than Note 12 Pro, but to be honest, those devices didn't bring the same attractive to Note 12 Pro.
If those aren't providing enough for arguments... Its closest rival is their own Poco X5 Pro, which again uses more common and widespread soc in custom rom community, the SD 778g, which it has some development on similar device such Mi 11 Lite 5g. Xiaomi 12 Lite also uses SD 778g, still hasn't seen any development yet.
tl;dr: there are many xiaomi devices, even the "flagship" Xiaomi 12 or Xiaomi 12 Pro, has yet seen any custom roms. I'd say: stick to existing community or any "its looks more guaranteed to be supported by community" devices rather than hoping this one would have one in the future.

Redmi Note 8 Pro is the most active for MTK device as far as I know, and for more two years consecutive after its release, it was ridden by a lot of issues. It was ironed out very lately, just after A12 out, and sadly most people has already moved out. Another one was Redmi Note 9 and Redmi 9, merlin and lancelot, again, most their roms stay on A11 firmware because latest A12 firmware gives a lot of headache. I've seen some development on Note 10s (evoX) and Poco M4 Pro (ported roms?), which those are MTK, but again, they're very slow and they had been released earlier than Note 12 Pro, but to be honest, those devices didn't bring the same attractive to Note 12 Pro.
If those aren't providing enough for arguments... Its closest rival is their own Poco X5 Pro, which again uses more common and widespread soc in custom rom community, the SD 778g, which it has some development on similar device such Mi 11 Lite 5g. Xiaomi 12 Lite also uses SD 778g, still hasn't seen any development yet.
tl;dr: there are many xiaomi devices, even the "flagship" Xiaomi 12 or Xiaomi 12 Pro, has yet seen any custom roms. I'd say: stick to existing community or any "its looks more guaranteed to be supported by community" devices rather than hoping this one would have one in the future.

You got the point, you are right. MTK are very slow in development.
I've flashed 2 GSI ROM (Acient OS, Project Elixir) today.
For somehow, I can't flash vbmeta because it made phone to bootloop when I tried to go fastboot on cmd. Project Elixir is lastest version and it have this strange bug that can't connect to internet via wifi even with VPN and DNS Change. Everything is working fine.
But those two ROM have same issue sharing that's brightness can't be decrease or increase and Screen is flickering in every 5 sec or so.
I didnt test camera with GCam since I've to prepare for my work trip. I may write more later about them.

Do you succeed to flash Elixir?? if yes can you share your exact way of flashing...I have bootloop on MI logo..I flashed at least 15 times with different setup without success..thanks

it seems that MIUI 14 cause big problems to flash GSI.. A downgrade to MIUI 13 can solve it

I did flash with MIUI 14 and successfully.
I erase user data,system,cache and A/B partition too.
I would use them if I have time to solve all the problem for myself and I think it's usable as daily rom.
The only problem I face is I can't flash vbmeta and it cause me bootloop to fastboot.
And important things is if you are in fastboot mode, phone screen show as FASTBOOTD
if not you are still in bootloader.
I use
Fastboot getvar is-userspace

That doesn't sound as a working solution.
Your are writing .... If I have time to solve all the problem for myself ....
So what does that mean ?
And .....
I erase user data,system,cache and A/B partition too......
is also stupid. In a and b slots are the boot, vbmeta, system_vbmeta. So if you erased a and b slots, it can't boot without boot partition.

I'm back from my trip and I will comment here my process and screenshots. I'm redownloading all tools and rom to my pc.
I'm one of the end user and I'm sorry if I confused you all with unclear method but I will try to describe every step I did.
I'm finding solution for screen flickering, auto brightness issue and no internet connection error.
