Is anyone having an issue where the data network drops from 5G to 3G upon receiving a phone call?
On S21 Ultra, Telstra network.
Have tried Network Settings Reset without assistance, and the telco claims everything is enabled on their end.
I'm also unable to find the VoLTE toggle under Network Connections and cannot enable call waiting - I wonder if this is related.
EDIT: Turns out it was indeed a carrier issue. Resolved with call to Telstra.
It is definitely related. If no VoLTE is set, network will always switch back fron 4G or 5G to 3G to support the incoming call.
Setting to use VoLTE (or 'call via 4G') should be under Mobile Network settings.
You may want to check with Telstra support, as VoLTE may not yet be activated for your device/subscription or apn settings are not correctly set.
@OnnoJ Thanks for the reply. The call via 4G toggle is missing from my "Mobile networks" setting page. I've seen others have a similar issue, but have not found a solution as yet.
Can't believe it - called Telstra again and they now found VoLTE was NOT provisioned! They fixed it on their end and all is working.

Hello,
I've searched the forums and haven't found an answer to this issue I'm having.
I have a Huawei P10 Plus VKY-L29 model and I'm having issues connecting to LTE on T-Mobile US. In areas where is it supposed to be LTE, the signal displays "4G+". I know there's the argument that 4G+ is LTE but then there's the problem where other people are on LTE and I will be on 4G in the same area. Also, whenever I make a call (whether on 4G or 4G+) before the call begins to ring, it will revert to nothing higher than 3G and then connect the call. This is an issue because my phone will also not receive calls unless 3G is available (which is not always the case) and will send the caller straight to voicemail and I will get no notification that they called unless they leave a voicemail. I assume this is a VoLTE (Voice over LTE) thing. I want to note that I do have the Virtual HD call move enabled in Dialer settings. There is no VoLTE setting in the device though. I was searching for the engineering code for Huawei devices in case there's a "LTE/4G/3G/2G" option that is not enabled but have not found one that works for this device.
My device is not rooted.
Please help!
Thank you!

You have to check your carrier whether they enable and support VOLTE for P10 plus. My carrier in my country only support few mobile devices for VOLTE and including P10. VOLTE is a service provide by carrier. Not phone. Hope it helps.
I'm experiencing issues with VOLTE on T-Mobile. My phone switches immediately from an LTE+ DATA connection to HSPA the moment a call is placed. Of course, VOLTE is enabled on the settings side. I'm running an unmodified system, upgraded to PIE.
I've been on the phone with T-Mo to make sure the APN is correct (nothing special to mention here). I've also tried different connection combinations using the *#*#4636#*#* with different results but, even though the phone connects really fast to DATA (LTE+), I cannot get VOLTE to function in any case. On the other hand, WiFi calling works just fine.
On a chat with Razer, they just told me that VOLTE is unstable with T-Mobile and, to disable the function altogether from settings.
Before I give up, I'm asking the geniuses here for ideas or experiences? Any ideas anyone?

I hope this can be figured out. Im waiting for my Razer 2 phone delivery and also on T-Mobile. What OS are you running? Android Pie?
Yes, I'm on Pie.
Good news! with today's update (3-20-2019), my phone is using VOLTE technologies to connect audio calls. Phone calls sound immensely better now (the "HD" icon shows up during the call and the "LTE+" connection indicator in the status bar remains through the call).
I bought a SM-N960U1 unbranded US unlocked model, and I immediately updated it to Android 9. THEN I inserted my T-Mobile sim, and I have wifi calling. I did all of this a few weeks ago, and I never really questioned it all until today.
I'm posting this now because I read that people cannot get wifi calling to work on their unbranded model unless they flash carrier firmware.
And this is what I've found. When I make a call while connected to wifi, I see the little wifi symbol on my phone symbol, as if the call is a wifi call. I have a toggle for wifi calling, which works! If I toggle wifi calling off and make the call again, no wifi symbol on the phone symbol. When I look in settings > connections, I do NOT have items to set wifi calling and VoLTE. However, I can search settings for wifi calling and I will find the Samsung 'Wi-Fi Calling' app (com.sec.unifiedwfc 6.0.33.47) RUNNING!
So, it seems I have wifi calling working on T-Mobile, with just the Samsung stock firmware and not the carrier firmware. Which is great! No carrier bloat.
I just tested my wifi calling by starting a wifi call and then walking out of wifi range, and it definitely works! At the edge of wifi range, the call broke up, handed over to the cell tower, and became noticeably less clear. I'm stoked to have wifi calling without carrier bloat.
I might investigate further if there are some settings I can toggle over adb (wifi preferred, etc)
It depends on the carrier. T-Mobile does support all of its services, including WiFi calling, on the N960U1. Some other carriers do not. Always check with your carrier before buying an unbranded phone.
I also just discovered that toggle button text is CLICKABLE, and I can access Wi-Fi Calling SETTINGS when I tap on the wifi calling toggle's text, which gives me the option to turn on/off wifi calling, wifi/cell preferred.
So I have Wi-Fi Callng, can change settings, all in the stock non-branded firmware of the SM-N960U1.
AWESOME!
Hello, I've only just finally figured out that while my unlocked pixel 4 xl connected to wifi, i cant receive calls, I can receive while i am using the phone with WIFI, but once i leave the phone go to sleep and connected to wifi, then my phone can not receive the calls and unreachable.
I have tried to change the network mode to 3G while i am connected to wifi, and it seems solved the issue.
While i am not connected to wifi (LTE) i have no issues at all.
I have unlocked Pixel 4 XL with Jan update (latest build) rooted through Madisk, stock kernals and everything
is there any solution to this? I've searched through forums and this subreddit but have yet to find an answer. Any help would be appreciated.
Maybe try turning off wifi calling if it's enabled?

Sounds like your phone is trying to make a call over Wi-Fi but your carrier (or SIM) may not support Wi-Fi calling. Where are you located and which carrier? Using the dialer, use the following code to check your provisioned status: *#*#4636#*#* If Wi-Fi calling is toggled OFF and you cannot change the setting (grayed our) then it will not work. Ask your carrier directly if they support it.
I have tested more to find out where the issue is happening, i connected to other wifis , and the issue was not reported, the issue the only in my apartment, and only when i am connected to lte, on 3g no issue, and once i leave my apartment, i can receive calls on lte normal, this strange, i was having the original pixel with no issues such, and my wife having iPhone and doesn't have this issue,i have tried her sim card (from the same provider) and the same issue
Now when i go home, i have to switch the network mode to 3g to be able to receive calls, otherwise it will show out of coverage.
I spoke with network provider, and they told this issue we with the phone, and its ture, since inwas using the same network in my original pixel, and the issue was never happened
Please help to advise.
Thanks

Turn off wifi calling on your phone. I had a similar problem with my unlocked pixel 4xl on Verizon and that solved the problem
I don't have wifi calling option enabled under mobile settings, my operator doesn't support wifi calling.

What is the provisioning status of Wi-Fi calling in the phone diagnostic menu ( *#*#4636#*#* ). Is the toggle on or off? Is it grayed out?
Its grayed out and toggled off

What country do you live in, and which carrier do you use?
I would do a network reset in settings under the reset menu. If that doesn't work, backup and do a FDR from recovery.

In my case, it's on and greyed out.
I am using unlocked Xiaomi Mi A2 running on RROS v8.5.6.
Hello
I just got this phone and set it up. Its a Global version 13.0.4 SKDMIXM.
I am on TMoblie USA - the phone is working great on LTE and 5G .
I am not able to see the Network preference under wifi calling where is can select Prefered Wifi Calling.
It appears that its running on default Prefered Cellular - because I can only see the VoLTE symbol on top.
Can someone help me in fixing this configuration to select Prefered Wifi Calling ? TIA

Hello, I'm using a 11T Pro Dual SIM India model with India SIM in Slot 1 and TMO SIM in Slot 2.
I have not found the specific setting to make Wifi Calling "Preferred" but, my phone does indicate Vo WiFi even when I have Wifi connected and Mobile Data turned on too once Wifi Calling is enabled as below.
Apparently the Voice Over WiFi Settings (at least here on my phone) only show up for SIM 1, does not show for SIM 2.
Attached are sample screenshots where the Settings are under SIM 1.
Steps to get there-
Settings > SIM cards & mobile networks > Click on SIM 1
All the way down, last Setting is "Wi-Fi Calls" to enable "Make calls using Wi-Fi".
Hope this helps.

Operators can disable this menu if they want to lock you onto Wifi preferred or cellular preferred. Does this only happen with this phone or does it also happen with the SIM in another Android phone?

There's a possibility of TMO-US not supporting WiFi calling on the Xiaomi 11T (Global), perhaps.
Although, I have been using various Unlocked phones (Nokia & Samsung) on TMO-US for the past few years & have practically never had issues with WiFi calling on any. Shall have to test it once I'm back. Won't be for some time.
Is your phone on the latest firmware? Try updating it to check if there's a new update available
which hopefully can solve your issue.
Couple of options to test, in case you have not already tested them-
a) leave WiFi Calling Enabled then disable the VoLTE feature and check if WiFi calling works?
b) disable Mobile Data, WiFi Calling enabled with WiFi connected and check if WiFi Calling works.
c) some users have had to ensure their E911 address is correctly in place on the TMO account too.

I had a working One Plus 6 - so I know TMO has VoWifi - I use it a lot due to poor reception at home .
The current workaround to force VoWIFI is
Turn On Airplane MOde
Turn ON WiFi only
then it works in VOWIFI with out any issues
I know I am missing a menu Item that can toggle this setting . I would prefer having that setting but its not a breaker for now . The phone works with all the Network features of TMO , LTE , 4G , 5G etc . No visual voicemail thats all.
Thanks

Thanks - this code is what got me to where I am now . I think from other articles - the mbn config may require some tweaking - but it refuses to give me access to it when i use *#*#663368378#*#*
Same access issue here too.
Wish you luck.
Pinging to see if there is a soln. in future.
