Bought Pixel 5 form Aliexpress a month ago and now I'm facing a green tint issue. On low brightness and dark colors (especially gray shades) the screen becomes green. Moreover, while switching refresh rate from 60Hz to 90hz the screen is bliking. Sometimes this thing pisses me off.
I've been searching the whole week and found some people solved this by switching to popular custom kernel. But I couldn't find what kernel exactly.
Maybe someone out here know what kernel to choose (or maybe there is another way to solve this?) A new display cost half the price of the phone, which is not the solution I want (
I have a similar problem. My P5 has a uniform green tint, regardless of the brightness. I recommend flashing any kernel with RGB control and lowering the green channel until you are satisfied.
As for the blinking problem when switching refresh rate, I suggest enabling Developer Options and toggling "Force peak refresh rate". That way your phone will stay at 90Hz.

I notice this particularly when on white screens. But every few seconds the screen tints VERY slightly different colours. It's a very subtle change but basically every 3 seconds or so, the screen goes from having more of a blue tint, to more of a warm tint. I'm wondering if my phone is faulty or if it's some sort of optimisation in the software. I have the screen power optimisation turned off, and auto brightness turned off but it's still doing it. Again, it's only very subtle. Do you think this phone should be returned? It's running Cassies ROM v4. Bought it from Expansys in the UK (but it came from france). Really appreciate any advice on this as I need to decide if it needs to be returned.
Hi everyone, as you should know the Asus Zenwatch 3 has an AMOLED display. From my understanding this should mean when displaying the colour black, the pixels should be turned off completely (like on my S7 Edge).
I was looking at my watch in a pitch black room with an ambient watch face displaying a black background and it appeared slightly reddish. Compared with my LG G Watch R sporting the exact same watch face it was clear the LG had the black pixels turned off but not on my Zenwatch 3.
I've attached a couple of pictures taken with my phone of the Zenwatch 3 in a pitch black room, one with normal shutter speed and the other with a 2 second shutter speed. Evidently the 2 second shutter speed shows that the display is in fact not turning off the pixels. The pics were taken when the watch was charging and in ambient mode with a watch face set to true black only.
Can anyone else confirm that this is the case and maybe a reason why? I'm worried that battery life may be affected by this with always on display enabled.
Lastly on a side note, are the black lines that aren't illuminated something to worry about?
Mine is the same, including a similar set of dark lines. I've seen others on Reddit report identical concerns.

Noticed this too, thought I was crazy lol...kinda waste of an AMOLED screen.
Hmmm ok at least I'm not the only one. Hopefully Asus is able to change it in a future update.
Yeah it is weird, black watch faces aren't truly black. I think they did it so watch faces can blend into the color scheme of the watch, if you notice the color overlay on the app launcher
That's because of auto Brightness. Turn it off. This impacts battery life. I observed this on very first day after the purchase. Using manual Brightness since then.

I just tried disabling Auto Brightness but the red tinge of the black background still exists.

It doesn't happen with me. If I turn off auto Brightness the blacks go complete black. Do you have live display turned on your phones? If so try disabling it. May be this setting depends on your phone. All I can confirm is if I turned auto Brightness off amoled works perfectly.

Not sure what you mean by live display but I just have a stock S7 Edge. I prefer keeping the auto brightness on for my watch so I guess I'll have to live with it.

Live display is when some ROMs allow the screen to have a tint at night time so the blue light from the screen won't affect your eyes at night
Me too have similar display and black line like that.
Glad I'm not the only one with this condition.
I also have those black lines, was about to get a replacement but since I'm not the only one and it doesn't affect overall performance or aesthetics its fine.

Turning off the auto brightness is not a solution. Its a pain if you had to adjust the brightness all the time
The first issue regarding contrast settings is that on 10.2.28 at least, if I set the phone to "standard contrast", sometimes upon waking it, it forgets that setting and looks exactly as if set on "automatic contrast", even though standard is still checked. Just confirmed this as my screen looked rather blue, changed to "automatic" and it remained identical, then I changed it back to standard and it finally got the desired white balance.The point of "standard contrast" is that it should be CONSTANT, not ever changing... I've got the phone 4 days ago (enjoying it overall) and I've got to ask if this has been an ongoing issue or is it new in 10.2.28?
The second issue is that with auto brightness OFF, the phone still bumps to max manual brightness when the sun shines directly on the sensor. It's not as annoying as the first issue but I'd rather it would not do that. This is how the mi 9 behaved since release or just a new bug?
Ultimately, can you guys point me to the most effective way of reporting bugs to xiaomi?
I'm on the same rom version... I don't have any issues with contrast changing like you said but I'm on increased contrast at all times... There's no way of disabling the screen boosting brightness in sun light regardless of auto brightness settings... It's sunlight 2.0 mode and actually boosts the brightness higher then the max on the brightness slider.
After lots of research, I finally found a solution, but its temporary.
Download & Install ScreenDimmer (Dims Notification Too) By Etsang From Play Store.
Keep the auto brightness off, and device brightness @100% (Or Above 50%), install app, give permissions and change brightness from app according to your usage, thats it.
I think red tint is a software bug, not a hardware, because at last the motive is to decrease the brightness (dim the display) without red tint. App is also doing the same. The only difference is it has no red tint.
This works but if advise against using it. It records your inputs.
More to your point of it being a software bug, I agree. I wats always under the impression that they could fix it by adding blue in software based on the light sensor input. I noticed that if you put your phone in grey scale (in notification tray) that the grey for the icons in the tray that are toggled on, are actually grey while the other have a red tint. Normally the toggled on icons are blue when not in grey scale. The fact that it can show grey properly under these conditions as well as the one you described shows software could address the issue.

Yeah, actually the brightness mechanism of oleds and LCDs is different, lcds just have a backlight led that would get brighter or dimmer pretty straightforward, but OLED's case is different, getting brighter or dimmer means showing different frequencies of the same color so our eyes can see that color brighter or dimmer, thats why when you turn the brightness of an oled panel down you still dont feel the way you do with a lcd
Long story short, this tint issue is most probably caused by wrong calibration of different brightness levels but still, i would take my hopes up with asus...they dont have a good history of customer support at least in their mobile phones section

I knew this was a software bug long time ago. Since I noticed even night mode did same problem too. That's who I found out this is software defently.

like other OLED phones, the ASUS Zenfone 8 suffers from PWM flickering in lower brightness. If you ever wondered why your phone seems flickery, unsettled or straining to the eyes in low brightness, this comes exactly from PWM flicker in the OLED display. (It's high frequency flicker so you won't notice immediately, but might be able to cause fatigue or eye strain, it is different from person to person) Dxomark had an article about this issue.
The ASUS Zenfone 8 has an option to enable DC dimming to mitigate PWM flickering in low brightness, according to reviewers and the display manufacturer. Stupidly, however, it is an option, not enabled by default. (Also only available in 60 Hz, but that's a minor restriction IMHO) In can be found under settings in stock ROM. But in my custom ROM (LineageOS), this option is not available anymore.
I am wondering if anyone found out a way to enable the DC dimming option in custom ROMs as well, maybe programmatically via. a control file, from command line, adb or whatever. Would be great to get this feature to non-stock-ROM usages as well.
I found out something, at least a workaround.
Dimming is actually quite straightforward in OLED displays, since there is no backlight. A grey value of 20% RGB in full brightness is the same as a white value (100% RGB) in 20% brightness. Literally. They are the same. In regular LCD displays, this would not be the same; there would be a huge difference in contrast between full backlight and reduced backlight.
Now, since PWM flicker only occurs in lower brightness settings, we can "trick" the display, set it to max. brightness and instead dim the display by just reducing all the RGB values by the percentage the display should be dimmed. The result will look exactly the same just without PWM. At least I haven't found any differences, also the colors are still very accurate despeite OLED displays are said to have lower color accuracy when dimmed via. DC dimming.
There exists some apps to replace the "hardware dimming" with "software dimming":
* [APP]OLED Saver (flicker free backlight dimming, no PWM)
* [APP] AMOLED PWMfree
I tried the first one (OLED Saver) and I am quite satisfied. I even found the custom brightness adaption way better than stock Android, since it reacts faster. And the difference between PWM and no PWM is really noticeable. Reading text in low light is much more pleasing now, much easier to the eyes, I can recommend you to try it out.
A drawback is that both of these apps reduce brightness via. a full screen overlay. Since most of us here have rooted phones, a much better solution would be to dim the display by modifying the system color settings. Similar to apps like CF.lumen which use this to implement night sight. Unfortunately, I haven't found an app doing this for brightness regulation. If there exists one, please let me know, it would be the ideal solution!
If custom ROM developers are reading this, would be a great feature to add to any ROM It is very straightforward to implement: Just decouple brightness regulation from the display driver; and reuse the brightness signal to alter the system color settings. I am sure that the ASUS DC dimming option does something like this as well.
