Question Switch from EEA to Global ROM - Redmi Note 10S

Hi there,
Is there a way to switch from eea to Global rom? Unlock bootloader or not?
Can you help me (How-to) to do that?
Thanks for your help!

just unlock bootloader and flash the global rom

Thank you for your answer!

speaker sound stuttering-
does anyone else have this fault??
i think i will try the 13.0.8.0 mi global rom first. if i ever get the bootloader unlocked.
and if it still has the problem or i find im missing something vital from the eu rom. (i can live with google stock messages and dialer).
i will have to downgrade to the 12.5 eu rom. until the eu rom is fixed.
because its intermittent. it starts off ok and the gets randomly worse over time until my phone is restarted, its very hard to replicate and its a pain in the ar#e to send logs and record timestamps. xiaomi know its a problem, so its their problem to research.
this has put me off xiaomi, it seems that their European customers are not as important.
does anyone else in europe or worldwide have this sound stuttering problem when playing media through the speaker, over mobile data or wifi? i drive 8 hours a day, and its nice to have music or a dab radio station to pass the day.
what rom are you on if you do.
it does not happen with my old moto z3 play.
all i get is a stock reply from xiaomi.
ive sent them sound logs.
ive factory reset, cleared memory, used an app killer etc. reinstalled bbc iplayer, amazon music, spotify etc.
turned off memory extention.

desire c restarts itself randomly

I bought my desire c back in june of this year on PC mobile prepaid in canada. I go to college in the USA so I network unlocked the phone and put my att gophone sim in it and all was well for 3 weeks then out of the blue it just started crashing and restarting at random and after every crash reboot I would get a notification saying submit crash report to htc. I did this several times but I think with such a cheap low end phone the reports fall on deaf ears. I factory reset it and everything worked for a day and a half then it started happening again.
All the apps I have installed now are:
adobe reader
apex launcher
app cache cleaner
barcode scanner
battery solo widget
chrome
cloudskipper
crash report
google drive
facebook
fast reboot
go keyboard
media scanner
osmand
shazam
simplenote
slacker radio
sms backup+
textplus
wifi manager
zite
I don't know which app may be causing this. I'm totally stumped and i can't have a phone restarting like this. I may miss calls or texts
in the process of a reboot
I really hope someone can finally find a solution to this issue. All I seem to find when looking it up are abandoned threads with no solution

crap can this get moved to troubleshooting my bad
If you are running stock rom, then flash Prometheus Sense Kernel. That might solve your problem..
Second link in my signature..
I never heard of installing a custom rom or kernel being the answer to fixing an issue with stock. However I was thinking of sticking maybe cm 10 or something on this phone since I hear wifi now works. Is there a program similar to odin on samsung devices but for htc phones? I have never flashed anything on a non samsung device.
Is flashing a kernel the same process as a rom?
Another thing I noticed is the phone doesn't reset itself when plugged in. However if I leave it unplugged, the next morning I will be greeted with the send error report to htc message indicating that it had restarted at least once overnight
does it matter if the phone is canadian or not? I remember my old samsung had issues because I use an american rom on it.
problem

I unlocked the bootloader, rooted, flashed CWM and installed prometheus kernel have not had a random restart in 3 days (knock on wood) hopefully it won't start restarting randomly again. I downloaded the 800mhz version too so the increased speed is a nice bonus.
Thank you very much I think you saved me from having to buy a new phone!
I don't really understand why this fixed it and why the issue would randomly start happening.
However if it starts happening again I will install cyanogenmod 10 or something and if it still happens then I think the phone is defective

Thats great. I thought you'd already unlocked and rooted your phone. Isn't that a prerequisite for network unlocking? If I'm not wrong..

How does the region setting affect my phone on Android? + Europe GDPR question

Greetings everyone!
Yesterday I have finally purchased this awesome device (Mi 8) and one of my most desired feature was the face unlock. After I unboxed the package, I have sadly seen that there is no such option in the settings. After a few-minute research I have found out that face unlock is only available in a few countries (China, Russia, Indonesia, India AFAIK), which is a really dumb thing imho. (I mean, the expensive hardware is literally inside the device for nothing). So I have changed my region to Indonesia and voilá, the face unlock setting appeared in my settings (with a few extra apps as well. well at least I can download themes too). Long story short, I have browsed everything, including Play Store, websites through Chrome, etc but couldn't find any aspect where the region setting would change anything at all. No Indonesian content at all (except for 1-2 Mi apps, which I literally never use). Could anyone tell me how region setting affect my phone? I couldn't find a single answer anywhere.
Also, as far as I know some Mi services are unavailable in the EU since the GDPR regulation (Themes store, etc.). Did the company disable the face unlock for the same reason? Are there any information whether these apps + face unlock will ever be available here, in Europe?
Thanks for reading through my little tale and thanks for answering as well. Have a nice day! Mi Community rulez! :highfive:
I Think app like netflix and anything like netflix will be affected based on region... Using Indonesia region you will get content on netflix but specially for Indonesia viewer....
Hey, I just bought Xiaomi Pocophone and I'm facing the same issue, so I set my region to India and I'm looking for the same answer. Do you have any new info regarding the region settings affecting something on your device, coda00?

Hello!
As far as I konw face unlock will be available in an uncertain time (at least that's the rumour, which I don't really believe), but I have found the perfect solution. The custom ROM called Xiaomi.eu offers the same MIUI system as the stock one, it has the same update schedule and there are no ads, or hindi/chinese content. You can also use face unlock with whatever region you want to use, since the base ROM is chinese and the ROM is hardcoded to a given region (probably Poland, but it won't affect the usage). Hope this helps. First I really didn't want to unlock my device, but boy it really does worth it for Xiaomi.eu.
EDIT: Sorry, I just realized I did not really answer your question @ShafiX94 was right, region affects some applications content, but most applications use GPS location instead of region setting, so it does not really affects usage. Instead of Xiaomi services of course, so on stock MIUI you'll see Indian content in Music player, Mi Video, Browser, etc. So every Xiaomi app ad will be hindi.
Wow, thanks . But that would mean losing my warranty, wouldn't it?

Well, theoretically yes. Technically, not really. You can relock the phone anytime after unlocking. It takes about 10 minutes. It is easily manageable to reverse the phone to its factory state in no time and even the service can't tell if you have ever unlocked or not. Also, they really don't care about software when it comes to hardware faults. And if it comes to software fault: well, as one of my phone repair worker friend would say: there is no software issue that couldn't be fixed at home.

Haha, okay, I'll try! I was scared because last time when I unlocked my HTC I was not able to relock it! Köszönöm.
I've been messing with the Region settings and found they affect all kinds of stuff.
WIFI - if you set region to Indonesia you no longer get 5G WIFI networks
Sound/Volume - as already mentioned gets set to lower max volume in EU countries
Face Unlock - Option is not available if you set your region to USA
Application - Different applications get hidden or displayed based on region
Themes - Get the message that themes aren't available when region is set to EU
What else did I miss?

Wow. Nice little research. I wonder why these infos can't be found anywhere. Thanks for the update. The face unlock and application part was clear but I didn't know about WiFi. Nevertheless, Xiaomi.eu is a way to go

OK google not working on EU rom

Hi all, after changing to EU rom from Chinese rom, I notice voice assistant won't stay switched on and is greyed out. I can use voice input for other features (keyboard, assistant) but to try set up OK google or retrain my voice, it is all greyed out in Voice Match settings.
Can't find any other threads for this or tips. All google results tips don't work.
Any suggestions out there?
I noticed the same! curious on what others have experienced.
+1 Me too
yup, same here! Tried a coup-le of methods suggested and eventually gave up. For now my fix is holding the AI button activates Google Assisstant. Also saves on battery drainage this way instead of the phone always listening for the magic words "ok google"
I never use this feature, but I can confirm that it's not working too on my device
EU rom is based on Chinese Rom, I have read somewhere their feedback about this. Generally, they can't make OK Google works on EU rom, at least for the time being. If you desperately need it, Global rom is the only choice.
If I bought my MI9 on netherlands, does it come stock with the xiaomi.eu ROM ?

No it comes with an official global rom.
xiaomi.eu is a kind of custom rom so you will need to unlock and flash it.
Mine is not greyed out, but when I try to enable "Access with voice match" it says "Something went wrong. Try again later" and it's not enabling.
Xiaomi.eu 9.4.25
Sent from my MI 9 using Tapatalk
Same here. Mi 9 global 10.2.28.0. can't activate access with voice match.

Is it better to buy a Chinese ROM over a Global ROM phone?

So I did some reading and I'm worried about buying a Global ROM phone, then accidentally locking the bootloader accidentally (it's happened in the past on other Xiaomi phones). So I was wondering if it might be better to just buy a locked phone with a Chinese ROM installed. Afaik, the Chinese ROM supports English, and it doesn't seem to difficult to remove the bloatware and install Google Play along with services- and this means I should also get OTA updates. Is there something I'm missing or should be considering?
Don't get the Chinese rom
just get what's recommended in your country, since it will support your GSM network without issue, have some patience you'll get all the updates eventually

If you're going to buy a Chinese phone then I would recommend getting it unopened with the Chinese ROM. That way you can easily link the phone to your Mi account and unlock it, should accidents happen in the future. Chinese MIUI isn't great for those outside of China. Yes it has English, but you'll get the occasional Chinese message still. Yes you can easily install Google Play, but it still doesn't play nicely with all Google services and may have issues with other Google products.
It would be better to install a global or European ROM, once the bootloader is unlocked, if you want to stay with stock MIUI. However to get everything working, like GPay, etc. you'll need to install Magisk and a few modules, which then gives you extra work with updates.
If you intend to have it rooted and to tinker with it, then the Chinese phone is the cheapest option and once you have installed what you want, there's no real difference where the phone came from.
If all you want is to keep your life simple, then buying the official phone for your region is the only easy option, but comes with a higher price tag.

Mi 9 network/wifi stability issue

Hello everyone,
I just got my phone back from after sales service due to my phone been softbricked (black screen, device not charging when plugged, ...) and by phone can boot now but it's bugging as soon as i put a SIM CARD in it.
When putting the SIM CAR in, phone is loosing wifi connection every 60 seconds (approximately) even right beside the router, and for the network, i'm stuck in EDGE and no signal stability either.
It's the same SIM CARD that was in before i sent it for repair, so the issue should not come from it (and it's working fine on my old Mi5)
One change they did is that they've updated the rom to the last MIUI 12 EEA stable rom, it was still on MIUI 11 global when i've sent it.
I've already wiped it and installed again the last update but it didn't work.
I was wondering if the issue was not coming from the EEA rom instead of the global rom, but i'm unable to install it since i don't have a computer anymore that i can use for xiaomitoolV2 and since it's still under warranty i would like to avoid unlocking it.
Is this kind of issue known ? could it be only software issue ?
Thank you for your help.
I didn't install any specific app that could have modified the settings and no specific app or setup is usually required with my network provider.

More than likely it's going to be software issues. Did you already any apps top modify system settings?
