Hi all.
I hope this thread is ok.
I have previously tried to flash a custom rom on my Mi 11. I've followed all the steps but most roms fail due to the file not being recognised in CMD or Powershell. I've ran these as administrator and it still won't work.
One or two of the roms recognised the file & looked like it was going to complete the flash until I got an error saying:
Failed to flash - target API level is 3. Has this happened anyone before?
Also after having to flash a fsastboot stock rom I can no longer install system updates.
If anyone can help, I'd be really appreciative as I'm so frustrated with MiUi. Can't open Gmail attachments, videos won't load on certain apps etc.
Thanks very much.

The bootloader must be unlocked.
For Aosp rom or Xiaomi EU rom use TWRP https://androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=321497
For stock rom use https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/flash-tool-guide-use-xiaomi-flash-tool.4262425/
I should have mentioned that my bootloader is unlocked.
If I flash TWRP, can I install a custom ROM? I can't see any mention of TWRP on custom roms, just flashing via fastboot.

This version of TWRP for a12 was released yesterday.
Some AOSP roms have their own recovery but you can use this TWRP.
The twrp is just an extension that avoids typing command lines.
Just use the twrp following the instructions of the OP of the rom you want to install.
The start is always the same:
Twrp/wipe/format data type yes/reboot Twrp=CLEAN FLASH
then flash as instructed by the OP.
For requested imgs, gapps etc.
Excellent. Thanks for your help

Hey guys,
I was trying to unlock my phone and install a custom ROM so I installed TWRP and everything was going smooth until I tried installing a custom ROM. In TWRP I hit "Install" and click the zip file for the ROM I want (PureNexus) and it says "Invalid zip file format! Error installing zip file '/sdcard/PureNexus.zip"
Does anyone know what the problem is? I can't figure this out. This is the first time I'm doing anything from the bootloader so I'm a bit of a newb. I would be fine going back to stock everything if it means my phone will turn on. I tried installing the official image from google (7.1.1) and I get the same zip error.
So where I'm at is I do not have an OS installed on but I do have access to TWRP. In the command prompt on my desktop it recognizes my phone when I type 'adb devices' but it doesn't do anything when I type 'fastboot devices'.
Any help is greatly appreciated. I'm scared.
Okay, so I figured out what fastboot was and I was able to install Google's 7.1.1 stock image using the command prompt. I was freaking out for a few hours and even though I didn't get the custom ROM I wanted I'm really happy I didn't brick my phone. I've never done anything like this on my phone so it was a fun learning experience
I'm still curious what I did wrong and why TWRP couldn't unzip any of the zip files (PureNexus, Google Stock, etc). If anyone knows I'm still interested in learning what I did wrong.

Yes, and the Google factory image isn't meant to be flashed that way. I guess the Google OTA image might be flashed from TWRP, but I haven't tried it.
TWRP will flash an image (. img) file if you set it to by tapping the img button. If you don't have that set and try to flash an image it will error. If you have it set to img and try to flash a zip it will also error.
1. Unlock the bootloader.
2. Install the latest TWRP recovery.
3. Wipe.
4. Install the required ROM.
To go back to stock firmware, just download the relevant factory firmware zip, extract it and run the script. I think a readme file is provided in the zip explaining how to go about it.
Cheers! Happy New Year!
Hello everyone, I am trying to install the latest Global dev ROM on my Mi8.
I bought the phone from Gearbest and it arrived with the latest Russian stable ROM and unlocked bootloader.
The thing is I think the person who did all the above messed something up because I can't install the ROM I want using the standard procedures with TWRP, XiaomiMiTool or Mi Flash.
TWRP
When I try to install TWRP (version 918), when I reboot with the reboot command and use the flash command, I see some random errors (couldn't get max-size report for example) or the command does nothing, so I am not able to install it.
XiaomiMiTool
The program recognises the phone, I select the global dev rom, it makes its checks, then it tries (failing of course) to unblock the already unblocked bootloader and I cannot proceed any farther
Miflash
Booted the phone in fastboot, found in the program list, check "clean all" only, when I click flash the phone goes into a black screen with a "press any key to shutdown" in the top left corner of the screen
Any advice on how to resolve any of these problems please? Maybe something got corrupted like the boot.img or recovery.img?
I can provide with some screenshoots and photos and list of commands I was using if it's going to be of any help
Thanks
Install adb and flash it through.

Thank you for this, but this is the same guide I followed.
After I use the flash command either nothing happens or I get an error.
The image below is after I waited 5 mins
OK.I recommend you TWRP 3.2.2-0711 wzsx150 from LR.TEAM linkhttps://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-8/how-to/recovery-twrp-3-2-2-0703-t3812600
,and also i recommend you insted of Global rom the EU rom.Its many language included and have better performance and camera.
I resolved this problem changing pc with USB 2.0 ports.
Hi everyone, I really need some help. Took my phone to I.T shop to have it unlocked and EU rom stable put on. I got my phone back with TWRP on it saying no rom. I know nothing about this kind of thing and now I am stuck. Is there someone who can fix this remotely for me?? Thanks in advance
In twrp Click install and Check in the download folder in case it's not in the root folder, if there is no ROM there you could fix it yourself by flashing the last fastboot ROM from a bat file or cmd line
i think it was 12.5.5 or something like that and then you can update to EU 12.5.12 stable via twrp
AND NEVER USE THAT SHOP AGAIN LOL

Thanks for your reply. Could this be done remotely. I really have no idea how to do any of this stuff which is why i first went to a shop. Im happy to pay for a good outcome
Anyone who flashes ROMs could do it in a few minutes via team viewer or something.... But it maybe beneficial to learn for yourself
It's really simple, you've already done the hardest part if you've unlocked the bootloader and installed twrp
Just put the phone in fastboot mode and then plug into PC and click on the bat file
Download: MIUI 12 stable update rolling out to several Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO devices
MIUI 12 stable builds have begun rolling out to several Xiaomi, Redmi, and POCO devices. Head on over for Recovery ROM and Fastboot ROM download links!
www.xda-developers.com
Select your phone and download the MIUI stock ROM. (Do NOT extract it.)
Boot into Twrp and wipe and factory reset.
Move the miui stock rom to the phone.
Select flash and select the zip file.
Swipe to flash
Then download and flash(move to phone, flash) the 'ARM64 Android 11' Gapps(Google apps) https://opengapps.org/
Then reboot.
All data will be lost. If you want to keep your photos and videos, before doing everything, go to twrp , connect the phone to a pc, and move the 'Dcim' folder to the computer side.
If you have a working TWRP, just use it to flash latest EU version, format data, reboot system. Done.
Then if you want to go back to a stock ROM, flash it via fastboot or twrp depending on the ROM format you download.

If he's stuck in twrp how can he download a ROM to flash? I don't think you can transfer files to a phone that doesn't have a ROM to flash via twrp
Fastboot first from a PC cmd maybe the only way to get started
He is asking someone else to do the process he doesn't know anything about these things (and I don't understand why buying a phone to make things like this if not capable). Anyway go on YouTube and check people doing the process, I don't think is difficult watching a guy and copy what he is doing
I am replying to close this thread. He contacted me over telegram. I took a look at his phone and the phone is not being detected in fastboot mode on his pc. Maybe hard bricked or in edl mode. Also his twrp is not accessible. So i suggested him to contact the edl guy and he fixed the phone.
So ask mods to close this thread?

I know it's closed as such but in twrp, I can copy files from pc to phone. He could have done the same. BTW, I'm using the very first twrp that many wouldn't install but my phone is recognised in Windows while in recovery. This might help someone else
Got the bootloader unlocked..should've read more & implemented over a proper guide.
long story short:
stared with magisk apk..when phone was fine.. then got into bootloop;
quickly downloaded & flashed the global (lime) MIUI V12.0.5.0.QJQMIXM;
installed twrp; should've done this before.
wasn't able to copy anything into internal storage.
Used Twrp to wipe phone.. & flashed the stock_global_miui_(lime)12.0.5 boot.img in fastboot
because twrp was saying "unable to decrypt fbe device" on internal storage
formatted using twrp.
booted properly but setup says device is locked because associated with existing mi account can't open wifi but was able to activate device upon entering password on mobile data setup completes but device restarts frequently & still unable to access wifi
I think it has something to do with "unable to decrypt fbe device"..
should I try flashing custom rom boot img?
please don't ban me..tell if I did something wrong, I'll correct that..
..
Edit:
MiFlash-tool Worked
Flashing other compaitable custom Rom also worked
..
Had twrp wipe the whole phone and the format the partions
& then flashed in fastboot & everything was normal.
..
FBE device encryption is basically storage encryption that prevents dirty flashing miui rom via fastboot.
this can be avoided by implementing proper procedure of magisk & use of lazypatcher.
Thank you so much.. @Cursader & @zoel.fahmi for pointing me in the right direction.. godbless
[solved]
Currently I'm running Miui just like a new device.
I will make another guide thread on rooting systemlessly & flashing other custom rooms... if I succeed I will link it here..
Try to reboot bootloader
then flash twrp
wipe everything and format the data partition
reboot to twrp again
then flash custom rom
If you're flashing miui again, your phone bootloader will be lock again and you need something like lazy2flasher if you wanna keep miui with twrp and magisk etc.

you can use custom rom from Poco M3 since it's used the same SoC (662)
here : https://forum.xda-developers.com/f/poco-m3-roms-kernels-recoveries-other-develop.11969/
check the thread name Poco M3 / Redmi 9T or unified or codename like citrus and lime
whats the difference between Lime, Citrus, & Juice..
Mine is Lime
Juice is Lime & Citrus I think..
So will Juice work on a device which previously ran Lime?
..
basically can I install PixelPlusUi_Juice
or should I first try the lazy2flasher.. & @zoel.fahmi
where do I get lazy2flasher
If anything goes for me (RedmiNote9Pro) i just use miflash to flash original miui and start all over from there, might not be the quickest method but is easy and reliable

If the bootloader unlocked and you can go into fastboot you can flash stock rom and It's just like it came from the store! Here you have link for your convinience: https://c.mi.com/oc/miuidownload/detail?guide=2
MiFlash-tool Worked..
(its the best tool for bringing mi devices from rom mess back to scratch new)
Flashing other Rom also worked..(pixelui)
juice = lime + citrus (works for both)

Hey everyone
I recently got this phone and went through the bootloader unlock process.
I then tried to follow the instructions on this page https://wiki.pixelexperience.org/devices/rosemary/install/ to get this rom installed but somehow ****ed it up.
Everything went well until I tried to flash the recovery img from this page: https://get.pixelexperience.org/rosemary (i downloaded the 13 plus recovery img).
I flashed the img via fastboot but after that I got stuck in fastboot. The phone is stuck in a bootloop when I try to reboot into recovery or normal boot. The only thing I can get back into is fastboot.
Would really appreciate any help to get the phone working again. Im not new to android custom roms but Im new to xiaomi phones and Im a little lost
Thanks.
OK nevermind I successfully got the phone booting again with miflash tool by reflashing an official firmware...
Greetings!
You can install the rom via adb sideload too. Put on some random recovery (see my tutorial here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/twrp-on-android-12.4522273/), and start adb sideload.
Then,
adb sideload insert_package_name.zip

Greetings!
As this phone has an MTK processor, we don't really have a recovery image, it's stored in the boot img I suppose. That link, you can download the official rom to this. DISCLAIMER: There are two types of ROMs listed here, one type is fastboot, that you need now in order to flash it through a computer for example. The another type is the recovery rom, that you can flash from recovery like a magisk package, or anything flashable zip, or with adb sideload.
https://mifirm.net
You should choose global if you are in Europe, but it's suitable for devices in the US or USA probably, ony feature differences are here between an EEA and Global rom.
Also, if you install pixel experience recovery, you can install the firmware by going into recovery, and do it via sideload. Or, you can try flashing the rom with TWRP (tutorial linked below), but then you won't able to install updates automatically.
One question: Did you checked in OEM unlocking in developer options before flashed PE?
Hope it helps!
Yeah, I did checked the oem unlocking. I think the reason why i failed because my bootloader probably updated and I forgot to check. You need bootloader version 12.5.16.0.RKLMIXM to install the pixel experience. Also thank for help
Greetings!
You can install the rom via adb sideload too. Put on some random recovery (see my tutorial here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/members/gurtnyi.11842195), and start adb sideload.

Can I do that on newer firmware or should I roll back to version 12.5.16.0.RKLMIXM? And if I roll back then I need to unlock device again?
I think you can. I've flashed it successfully on the latest version too. Currently I don't use PE but it was good for me.
Well, regarding to the unlock, it's not a big deal, you don't have to wait 168h again, once you've firstly unlocked your device, you can re-unlock it again, and again, no matter how many times, you don't have to wait a lot again.
But depending on how you rollback it,
I mean, with xiaomi flasher (i think that's its name) you can choose between clean all and lock, save userdata, and clean all, but in the first case, it'll lock back the bootloader. With SP flash tool (if you need, I can provide a link for the modified version of it, that doesn't require an auth file, but if fails, you need a python script, I can link that too), as I remember it won't lock back the device, but I'm not a 100% sure
Hope it helps!

Happy to hear that!
By the way, yes, pe recovery is better for sideloading, or eventually any not stock recovery. Also, if you install PE recovery, you can apply updates automatically, and in the future you won't need to flash it manually.
