I will have my Droid 3 tomorrow! I am upgrading from a rooted Incredible, and I am super stoked! My husband got a Blackberry Bold with his upgrade because he wanted a physical keyboard, but with the BOGO for the D3, plus the fact that it has a slide out keyboard and the HUGE QHD screen, he is coming back to Android!
Honestly, the only reason I was rooted was to overclock, but there will be no need with the D3 (for now). I researched the benchmarks on this device, and they are amazing!
Anyway, here I am, from the Eris forums to the Incredible forums, and now on to much bigger and better things in the D3 forums! WOOOOO!
Right there with you!
Except mine arrives today, Waiting impatiently for the UPS fella. I live a mile from the UPS sorting facility where they load up the brown trucks, It's been out for delivery since 7 this morning. Tisk tisk.
Umm. I can't seem to grasp it on why people think that the moto droid 3 is a beast. Mu cuzz has one and my stock LG G2x makes it look slow. Then I fire up my faux123 kernel and oc to 1500. And well you know... sry for the response. Plus your battery life is gonna really suck...lol

12 hours of heavy use and still have 20% left. Bad battery life? What?
Just ordered mine today, eagerly awaiting it's arrival.
This is my first smartphone too, upgrading from a MOTORAZR2.

I was waiting yesterday for 12 hours, I left to donate plasma, and it arrived 10 minutes after I left. I was sooooo annoyed. Anyways I love this beast. Smartbench I get Productivity: 3500 and Games: 2500. It is an amazing phone.

I looked up stock benchmarks for the G2X, and I've gotten a few Quadrant scores that are close to it (only about 20 points less at my max, and 90 points less at my minimum), and of course I'm still stock since there's nothing for our phone yet. So yes, this phone is indeed a beast. And the battery isn't that bad, with a decent amount of usage today (downloaded a few apps, played Cut the Rope for about 30 minutes, texted quite a bit, made a quick phone call), I'm still at 80% after almost 11 hours. Choose a better (or worse, really ) phone to argue against next time please
EDIT: Looked up some Linpack scores for the G2X, the Droid 3 kills it in both single- and multi-threaded modes
Lol... I had to do it.
Lol I love getting things stirred up. I just thought I would aggrivate a few people. But really, my cuzz phone dies in 5 hrs. Must have been a bad batch.

Depends on how you use it. Any higher end phone will choke in five hours if playing a lot of Flash and other high resource apps, non stop.
Haha! I think my husband secretly loves it!

Just ran a benchmark.... 34.94 mflops with half battery and a few things going on in the background. Not bad considering my rooted Eris never hit 6 and my rooted Incredible never hit 20.

Try smartbench, again I get 3500 productivity, and 2500 games, I do task kill about a minute before I run smart bench.

if you think about it.... your are unlikely to keep the phone for more than 4 years
google keeps releasing software updates every few weeks
and some of us might not even be alive by 2030
I can't honestly see this as a viable concern, but it's pretty interesting nonetheless. If I have this phone in 2038 though, something must have seriously went wrong.

Major issue. Easy to rectify, but if not addressed, all our electronics will not recognize years after 2038...
Just like y2k, could be a major issue, but it won't be because people recognize it and will fix/patch it. 64bit computers already mitigate this, but phones, watches, etc. all would need to be 64bit as well...
Major problem is that most devices have one 32-bit register to hold time. Ether need to ADD another register to get two 32-bit registers to hold time, or increase the single register from 32 to 64 bits.
or...?
On my ST15i the calendar it's up to 2100. But if i try to set an event using that year, the date goes back automaticaly to 1970...
Non issue; once the world ends in 2012 there will be no need for smartphones.
In all seriousness though, I'm sure we'll have another Y2K scare and they'll manage to fix it rendering all the people who stock up on water by the jug and jars of pickled eggs feeling empty.
Until next time..!

Hey guys,
I have a really bad battery drain the last days. Today, my phone is unplugged for about 12h and I only have 16% left. the screen was activated for about 15min and it was "awake" for about 2 minutes. I should have at least 50% left. Today, after I unplugged my phone I left it alone for about 2 hours.. when I unlocked it I lost 20%! I usually need 20% for wachting a 2h+ movie. A week ago it would still be at 95-99%. I don't know what's the problem, I installed what I do always and the sync. settings are the same as always. I made my phone S-Off and updated the firmware to 2.24 a few days ago.. could that be the reason? I had no issues. That's the third day with this bad battery drain.
I installed wakelock detector and it shows that Facebook would be the problem (and google services also) so I turned off the auto sync. .. maybe that's because of the update 2-4 days ago. My phone also has been fallen from 40 cm height but no recognizable issues Can someone confirm that the firmware update or facebook update are causing such an awful battery drain? I guess it happened after I installed Maximus7 v10.. I'm now on Viper.. same settings as always and I´m using them for months. That's weird, I hope somebody can help me to find it out.
Same here... Ever since the 4.2.2 update my cpu gets stressed a lot, battery hot, and battery life worse than before. Especially on custom kernels I noticed. Different governors don't help, and if I underclock it will use more cores at the new max. frequency and lag a lot

What R U Guys ROMs on?
I was getting some bad battery drain for a while around the time I moved to 4.2.2. Assuming you're getting a lot of Google Services wakelocks, this might help (it solved my issues). Force stop and clear data on these apps:
-Google Services Framework
-Google Play Services
-Maps
-Google+
Then delete your Google account and sign back in (you need to do this or your account will be borked by clearing data).
I think the update may have created some issues with the services framework so that it syncs more than it needs to.
I'm on Renovate M4. Completely clean install, so I don't think the above is relevant, but I'll try anyway
I already had this ever since I tried viper 1.0.0

To be very honest, I never thought about those... Could be the problem, though it's not probable. I've done lots of clean flashes and kept on having this, and now I think about it, I always used custom kernels. This one time that I don't, it's ok
But every single custom kernel having this issue also seems a bit odd, to say the least.
I tried every single kernel available for 4.2.2, with and without OC and UV

I usually give it 2-4 days, depending on how bad it is and if I have much time to flash. So far faux was the worst, I used his recommended battery saving settings and it resulted in heat (44-47℃ light use) and instability, so that kernel was gone the next day

Very true... Plus year or so ago Google noted it was giving manufacturers the code preview way early to help transitions and one of those was HTC.... Doubt it takes 90days....
Only way I can see it taking that long is if HTC needs/wants to change/add something decent in size/structure...
I am very excited for this update! But I agree with people above, I am sure we will have it before the 90 days
