How To Guide [GUIDE] Wifi antenna fix - Redmi 9 Power / 9T

I want to share a permanent hardware fix for the wifi antenna I found on 4pda. I did this on a 9T of a family member and it worked.
So if you have poor wifi reception with your Redmi 9T you might want to consider this fix.

Some remarks:
- shutdown the phone
- remove sim tray
- the plastic back cover must be removed. Be very carefull not to damage the on/off/fingerprint cable still connected to the back cover !!! Take your time !!!
- leave the fingerprint cable/button alone, no need to separate
- try to restore the sealing strip around the camera block before reassembling
- use sharp tiny knife to seperate the wifi antenna connectors in the back cover (pink arrow), make sure they don't connect anymore
- when placing the back cover back on the phone do the side with the sim tray first, else you bend the sim tray opening in the cover
One video on how tho remove the back cover:
(I prefer plastic tools and my nails to seperate)
Hope this helps. All at your own risk.
Cheers

you can guide by video , as well as the effectiveness of the above method. I also tried other ways but it didn't work

How do you want the Signal to improve? Like you, you just Almost gutted it.. You just have to cut it in the middle a little bit.

No video available. It's very easy and straight forward. Do not mess with the contacts on the motherboard. Hope you manage to salvage them.
The wifi antenna is just a sticker on the back cover. To make the cut is very easy. No force needed. Be gentle.
I flashed latest official crDroid 7.15 A11 (https://crdroid.net/juice/7) but I think the wifi problem is mainly hardware (antenna) related. I don't like A12 (crDroid 8.x) at all but tested it and it also works fine.

Is that Redmi 9t? It looks different to my photo. The procedure is to electrically seperate the contact points of the wifi antenna (sticker) where they connect to the mainboard pins.

Now I have WI-FI on the Road outside of my Home. Before the fix, the connection was immediately Lost.

Here, I found some video detailing how to fix it. You can either add solder to the antenna or jump some wire to it. The video showed the owner already soldered the pad but it becomes weak again. This is Poco M3 but it's basically the same

@Skcyte thanks for the extra tip. The trick in the OP did it for me and is much simpler to do.
Note: If anyone executed the trick from the OP you are welcome to report the result here. It will help others too!

it could be that the new one is from different matherials that somehow block the signal (iron threads , ferite threads...) , if you have the old cover you should check if the signal is better with the old one. If it is possible use the one from a friend ... just for tests ... its strange because the other ones sold should be tested to work with the phone....but it's all mass produced in China , so .... anything is possible
one more thing, do you use HTC stock ROM (vanilla) or did you flash some other ROM from this or any other forum ??
did you change the middle housing also? because you do know the gps antenna is a sticker stuck onto the middle housing you might have forgotten to take it off and put it on the new housing.

or in full
oscilators, condensators , ICs ... not likely to fit in a sticker
but as I said , maybe the new cover is from thicker matherial or some ferite-like one that chops the signals and they give bad reception (sending also).
Thank you for your answers.
I changed the front cover, the middle and back cover, also the leds, speaker and all keys.
The new housing is by TIM (Telecom Italia) could be the material as markojan says but I don't think so. I will try to change back all, and will tell you what happen.
Where is exactly the GPS antenna?
Thanks and see you
Both the GPS and Bluetooth antennas are in the sticker. Somtimes if you are not carefull peeling off the sticker from the old cover it could've damaged the copper etching which is in sticker which acts as antenna.
Try if you can get replacements (I didnt find any on a search). Alternatively try checking again and try replacing the copper with some aluminium foils used for packing foods. It should work fine.
Based on what you tell its certainly the antenna is damaged or not in 'contact' with board behind.
Good luck!
Problem solved, the gps and the bluetooth are working again. The problem was with the medium housing, the new one (white) has not got the two golden contacts, I supose this two contacts must be the antennas.
I've replaced the medium housing for the old black, and covered with front and back white covers.
Thanks

Weak Wifi and GPS, any advice or help?

Alright, so I have been fairly certain that I caused this problem but I wanted to make sure.
My gf dropped her HTC Vivid and broke the LCD and digitizer. I ordered new ones on ebay, both an LCD and digitizer, and installed them. The only problem is that after the installation the wifi and GPS on the phone were extremely weak. The wifi only works about 10 feet from a router, any further and it just doesn't show up. The GPS just says locking on target forever. I'm pretty sure the damage was caused by me and not by her dropping it, but I can't be sure. Wifi seemed to be working fine even with half the LCD and glass obscuring the view of android.
Even though I was pretty sure it was a hardware thing caused by me, I was scared to take the phone apart again after getting it all nice and put together so I tried unlocking, rooting, and installing CM 10.
CM10 works great, but the Wifi and GPS issues remain.
So I guess I need to take it apart again and put it back together very slowly and hope that this time any loose components or what not are put back into place properly....
Does anyone know where I can find any schematics online so that I can be sure to be EXTRA careful with the Wifi and GPS antenna? This way I can also inspect them to make sure they aren't damaged.

Tearing down the phone isn't the problem. I need to know exactly what is related to wifi and GPS to make sure I pay extra attention to those parts. I can't seem to find it yet.
edit:
I took the whole thing apart again, I put it together piece by piece very carefully following every breakdown and the Wifi and GPS are still incredibly weak and not working properly. Ideas?

Looks like BT+wifi share an antennae and GPS has it's own. Both towards the top. My guess is it's just a metal tab that makes contact by the pressure from the case, but I haven't had mine apart to confirm that.

[Q] How to check manufacturing date

Hi all,
I recently aquired a used Z1 and wanted to check if it is indeed only "1 Month old".
Is there a possibility to check this? Somewhere in the firmware or with a serial# etc?

Look for this Number at the back side somewhere in smallish letters:-
Inside the micro sd card slot will be a sliding sticker. use your long nails or a pointed screwdriver whatever, to pull it out
14W15 (as an example) that will be 2014 week 15
Thanks
14W04 (on the FCC sticker)
I bought it in September, so it makes sense, thanks for telling me.
Also it had 103 charge cycles on the battery, that also might work with 3 months (~90 days).

Would you be able to provide a photo of the 'sliding sticker'? I'm not finding it.
I'd rather not remove the back plate to view the info sticker unless I really have to.

I wonder why Google didn't show me that info page in the first place when I searched. Heh. Thank you, both, for helping me out on this. I almost hard the darnedest time seeing it.
Looks like this device was built in late week 40 of 2013, although it was only unboxed earlier this month - as mentioned by it's previous owner. Though somehow I doubt that because the left loud speaker was inoperable, unless that was a manufacturing defect...

Sorry for replying this late, but you're somehow mistaken on the left speaker thingy
Our Z1 only has one LOUD-speaker on the bottom righest area. Though you can turn on the upper speaker as well with a mod also available on XDA. I have been using it and the mono quality speakers have become stereo; without a doubt a must thing

My rooted-stock ROM has dontbelive's stereo mod cooked-in, but only the other day did I come to realize what you just mentioned there. I knew what the mod did, though somehow it escaped me why I had it. It can take /considerable/ time for things to click. Silly me!
But hey, good to point that out anyway! I'm sure it'll be notable for future reference

Remove the NFC card

Hi All
Sorry if this is in the wrong place but I guessed you were the guys to help me... Want to remove the Near Field card from my Nexus 5 and my question is...
Will the phone boot up, and work, without it
May be daft but don't use it, don't like the idea and would rather plug a speaker into the headphone jack rather than use anything wireless...

Hi..
Wondered if I might get this kind of answer....
The question was an honest, if bizarre one, as looking at the strip down info on here it showed the near field card as a plug in...
I did just genuinely want to know if the phone still worked/booted without it as someone may have... lets say... not plugged it back in properly after a rebuild... or even had a try to see what happens....
As the 5 is my only phone I just wanted to ask rather than do...

Or else the most easy but forgotten solution, is to stick a little piece of insulating tape, but any other would be ok, over the NFC contacts . Phone will boot no problem, but even if I m ok with this strange question, I can't understand how NFC is related to headphones... Maybe you want to hardware disable Bluetooth? The easy solution this time is...
The same, just stick a piece of tape over the Bluetooth antenna contacts, but in this case I can't tell you if it will or will not damage the Bluetooth controller if you leave it activated in android.

Man, that is beyond far fetched. A bit paranoid to say the least... Should probably remove your wifi, bluetooth, and cellular modules and antennas as well, rip out your wireless charging receiver, throw away any wireless chargers you own, and throw away your home router, and move to an area with zero cellular reception.

Thank you. I've already watched that video in the past, but it doesn't say what these are.
They also look like plastic instead of metal, so I'm still unsure if I'm missing something or not...
My speculations are that those are the connection for wifi antennas. Last year, I was changing the LCD, ive made some research that on some cheap LCDs they dont have that connector, and that people are complaining their Wifi becoming non-existent after using that screen. I brought the OEM one that costs abit more, about 27 USD in aliexpress and i notice no wifi issues what so ever (apart from the distance being ****, true to its original condition lmao). Another guess is that its for the touchscreen grounding i guess??

That would make some sense... my wifi performance on 2.4GHz is just miserable, it struggles to find the SSID even if I'm standing next to the router.
Interestingly enough, the same router puts out a 5GHz SSID and that one is mostly fine.
Now, if these connectors have something to do with wifi I still can't seem to find the parts online. Only the coaxial cable shows up, and I thought that was the only antenna connector for wifi...

I think you need to refer back on the original part of the screen. From my knowledge, these are a part of the frame of the screen assembly, so you can always transfer the OEM/Original old parts to your new screen. Or maybe next time make sure to buy the oem version that has complete features like what i did. I hope it helps!
