LineageOS is a free, community built, aftermarket firmware distribution of Android 11, which is designed to increase performance and reliability over stock Android for your device.
LineageOS is based on the Android Open Source Project with extra contributions from many people within the Android community. It can be used without any need to have any Google application installed. Linked below is a package that has come from another Android project that restore the Google parts. LineageOS does still include various hardware-specific code, which is also slowly being open-sourced anyway.
All the source code for LineageOS is available in the LineageOS Github repo. And if you would like to contribute to LineageOS, please visit out Gerrit Code Review. You can also view the Changelog for a full list of changes & features.
======================================
The only purpose of this thread is to provide and share updated packages of Lineage 18.1 for Mi 5S, which are built and signed following the official instructions, so:
No software is added or removed afterwards.
There aren't any changes in functionality.
Some bugs may get fixed, and others may appear. You can review the changelog in the link above. No support will be provided.
Use at your own risk.
I also want to thank unicastbg for his support for making these builds possible
======================================
Installing LineageOS from recovery, coming from other ROMs
Read also the Additional information section.
Official installation instructions from Lineage.
Updating LineageOS from recovery
Read also the Additional information section.
Download LineageOS installation package.
Reboot to Recovery.
Flash the package.
Reboot to System.
Additional information:
You may also want to have some Google stuff, so you will have to download GApps as well.
In order for the FP to work, choose "pico" for Android 11. This is the ONLY variant that has worked for me.
You will have to flash this package right after the ROM and BEFORE rebooting to System.
For example, assuming that you already have a custom recovery installed (https://dl.twrp.me/capricorn/) and want to start from scratch, these would be the steps to follow, but they can vary depending on your current configuration:
Download ROM and GApps pico.
Reboot to Recovery.
Wipe Cache and System partitions.
Flash ROM and GApps in a row.
Wipe Dalvik and Cache.
Reboot to System.

Good Job xD
Fingerprint is working pretty well! Use Pico GApps if FP doesn't work for you.
Thanks! Mi 5s still resists!
How is the battery performance in this ROM? And which Kernel would you recommend?
Speaking about battery, it really, really helped me find what's consuming it by opening a terminal and using either "top" or "htop" commands. This gives you the most CPU hungry processes in real time. A text based process manager, a sort of speech. Finding and "fixing" those applications resulted in a much better battery life. Turned out I had a file explorer app that was consuming 90% of the CPU. Uninstalling it made the phone way more responsive.
But this was a 3rd party app, not included in this build.

I haven't found any issues regarding battery performance, just like LOS 16.
As per kernel, I once tried builds with 4.4 and my device got hotter, that's why I'd stick to 3.18.

Thank you for answer and support 18.1 version of lineage. I wish you Marry Christmas and Happy New Year.
Likewise, merry Christmas
@archipepe - Thank you so much for reviving the Mi 5s! Have just installed your ROM and it's working great! Was seriously considering ditching this phone and buying a new one on account of the lack of LineageOS support, but I think I'll now stick with it for a while longer. Would be great to see LineageOS 19/20 on it at some point!!!
For what it's worth, I'm using Core NikGApps and the fingerprint sensor does not work. No big deal though, since I'm happy not to use it.

If the fp sensor of your device is fpc and is not working on los,has following to methods to fix:
(choose one of them! not all !!!)
1. edit /system/build.prop and change ro.boot.fingerprint=goodix to ro.boot.fingerprint=fpc
or
2. rename /system/lib64/hw/fingerprint.fpc.so to /system/lib64/hw/fingerprint.goodix.so
reboot your phone
then fpc fingerprint should work~
Here it comes! Thanks for your efforts!

Either China Stable or China Developer (EDIT : It's developer). I looked at it this morning and saw only 1, but now I see 3 lol.
But one of them definitely is 7.6.8
Gonna wait for some reviews here (benchmark performance, battery life, etc) before I jump in.

maybe a stupid question, but could the camera from LineageOS on the Mi6 be exactly that good as on MIUI? or isnt that possible?

It is working on some pie ROMs. For example on havoc 2.9 it is working fine. And also it is working all miui ROMs. Maybe for Android 10 ROMs you need Android 10 firmware. But I think it will be released tomorrow by Xiaomi eu team. Thanks.
thanks a lot..been waiting for this for so long.
rom is very smooth, bitgapps works fine, magisk works, viper works
though its a first build, still a few notes-
- battery percentage and styles doesnt work
- network indicator in the middle cut by notch
- expanded desktop option is not accessible.
thanks
First of all thank you for your work.
I'm facing an error message on every reboot.
Also trebuchet stopped working message after changing the language and using full screen gestures.
Camera does not work (did not even try GCam as the rest of the ROM is so immature you have to roll back anyways)
GApps installation a nightmare
Whatsapp does not link with Google Account
Thx for picking up the work!!! Really apreciate it and hope it goes stable and eventually official.
Your source code link only does somehow not link your work on the rom. Can you add the device specific sources ( I guess it is https://github.com/daniml3/android_vendor_xiaomi_lavender, https://github.com/daniml3/android_vendor_xiaomi_lavender) ?
Looking at the fork history am I thus right to assume that this ROM builds on and tracks the recent developments on PE ROM?

The base of the trees are taken from PE yes
OTA update from 1/2 version to 1/3 version caused boot loop. The phone kept going to recovery. Clearing caches did not help.
I do have magisk installed. Maybe that's the issue? Clean install of 1/3 version worked fine.

LineageOS is working on a fix so addon.d will work and there wont be the needed to reinstall GApps. A workaround for using OTA is disabling auto-reboot after OTA in recovery, or just when the phone auto reboots, press volume up button to boot again into recovery.
Does this ROM need Gapps to work or can it work with microg? I tried installing LOS 16 without Gapps and I was never able to get it to boot without Gapps.

Reporting Bugs
DO NOT Report bugs if you're running a custom kernel or you installed Xposed
Grab a logcat right after the problem has occurred. (Please include at least a few pages of the log, not just the last few lines, unless you know what you're doing.)
If it is a random reboot, grab /sys/fs/pstore/console-ramoops and /sys/fs/pstore/dmesg-ramoops-0. (Do not bother getting a logcat unless you can get it just before the reboot. A logcat after a reboot is useless)
If the problem disappears after running "setenforce 0" from a root shell, grab /data/misc/audit/audit.log

Anyone having issues with google drive auto-closing (won't launch)?
Yes buddy... i had the same issue and the phone stuck onto Qualcomm:Crash Dump while booting.
I would have to again install TWRP 3.4.0-2 and it would boot up.
But this magisk-debug.zip works

Is the kernel source closed for the moment, last commit in device repo is also from 1st September. Must be some valid reason. Your device sources are key for other custom roms.
@LuK1337 you are a great developer, would really appreciate the local manifest in op if all the dependencies repo does not get synced automatically on build start. You do all the hardwork but some people get very happy just after compiling the rom from your source. Some like me want to add desired features on it. OP6t is about to be an EOL device, you are the only saviour for us.
Bdw, great job done with eleven bring up.

The question was not for me, but I would still like to share something: There are no kernel/config changes needed for R (https://android.googlesource.com/kernel/configs/+/refs/heads/android11-release/r/), so 17.1 and 18 can use the same branch without problems.
This rom is amazing and so smooth all we need now is to pass safety net and if gapps can be included battery life is amazing and very fluid I tried other 11 Roms but this one is very smooth just need to pass safety net and is there a telegram group ?

Yes. In fact no other canary / debug build works for me except the old one that you linked to. All the updated ones, and Magisk 21 all result in my phone booting straight to Fastboot. Uninstalling them make the phone boot again. That one from September works fine for some reason?

I have had great success in using the Magisk-Modded.zip from the SyberiaOS project, that can be had here:

You might try that and see if it works for you. It should.

LineageOS is a free, community built, aftermarket firmware distribution of Android 9 (Pie), which is designed to increase performance and reliability over stock Android for your device.
Updating LineageOS from recovery
Download LineageOS installation package.
Reboot to recovery.
Flash the package.
Reboot to system
Installing LineageOS from recovery, coming from other ROMs
Download LineageOS installation package.
Optionally, download an application package add-on such as Google Apps (use the arm64 architecture).
If you are not in recovery, reboot into recovery:
With the device powered off, hold Volume Up + Power. Keep holding both buttons until the “MI” logo appears on the screen, then release.
Now tap Wipe.
Now tap Format Data and continue with the formatting process. This will remove encryption and delete all files stored in the internal storage.
Return to the previous menu and tap Advanced Wipe, then select the Cache and System partitions and then Swipe to Wipe.
Sideload the LineageOS .zip package:
On the device, select “Advanced”, “ADB Sideload”, then swipe to begin sideload.
On the host machine, sideload the package using: adb sideload filename.zip.
check
TIP: If the process succeeds the output will stop at 47% and report adb: failed to read command: Success.
(Optionally): If you want to install any add-ons, repeat the sideload steps above for those packages in sequence.
info_outline
NOTE: If you want the Google Apps add-on on your device, you must follow this step before booting into LineageOS for the first time!
Once you have installed everything successfully, run ‘adb reboot’.

The purpose of this thread is to continue the support of Lineage 16 for Mi5S.
I am no developer, therefore I can't promise fixing bugs or changing the functionality.
The builds are done the official way and no software is added or removed afterwards.
My target is to do a build at least once a month.

Changelog (for all LOS16 devices): https://www.lineageoslog.com/16.0
Tanks for this one, before i test it, what is best ROM you all use on mi5s, right now i am on PE-10, didn't update it for like 6 months. Now i want fresh installation, and i don't need latest anything, just OS that works, it is as fluid as it can be. So:
-this
-PE10
-PE11
-Official LoS16
-Unofficial LoS18
-or something else, what is best right now? Did anyone test more then one ROM.
Official LOS anything is gone for Mi5s. LOS16 was official, but due to the fingerprint issues it will never get 17.1 or 18.
I personally use LOS16 because everything works. And we still have regular security patches.
I have tried briefly the LOS18 and found it's not to my liking.
This is what I wrote in 18.1's forum (Link) based on my experience:
Well... Not sure if related somehow to Viper4Android, but the fingerprints are getting deleted after some time. And after restart. But when present, I think it unlocks faster than compared to LOS 16. However there are a few design features of Android 11 that made me switch back to 9.
Viper4android currently not working.
Apps that rely on fixed SU folder will fail.
Cannot disable Camera - Lens Cap app.
Cannot record calls. There might be a better app that does it ok, but I haven't searched much.
And finally - cannot limit the battery charge percentage - have it charged to 90% for example. I've tried with Floppy kernel as well.
The only thing that I really miss is the EIS that we had in MIUI. But the customization there is very limited compared to Lineage.
I haven't played much with other ROMs, maybe PE has it all sorted out and EIS and the fingerprint reader are both working just fine...
I've been waiting for a security patch for a while, but I think that was it for LOS 16. Had some blind hopes since we got updates after the official end. I'll be checking for updates for a while and if such appear, will update the build.
Update - to my surprise we got security and other updates!
Hmmm i tested this one, for now i found just one problem, if you unlock phone with pin, home button is "fingerprinet sensor" and not home button until you put finger.
And i got problem on install, i couldn't use OpenGApps aroma version (there was 2 problems, it asked for android 7 version, and then asked for arm not arm64 version, and any of this didn't work), othere openGApps versions worked. After install i have problem, banking app doesn't work (tested on othere phone, it works), so probably something from google is missing, if i don't find what i will must go on PE ROM. On install i used pico GApps (i really dont wan't googles bloatware), i will try with FULL version of GApps tonight, if it doesn't work i will must go on othere ROM-s.
But it is "ok" ROM, for now.
We got the July security updates today. I'll do another release tomorrow (done, forgot to update this post).
Using 3 banking apps, haven't had problems so far. About GAPPS, I've followed the official links and got the Nano version.
Hey guys, are you still using LOS 16 on your Mi 5s phones? Is there still need for up to date builds? I'm asking this because if it turns out no one's using this LOS version, then there's no need for newer builds. Like or reply if you want to continue receiving updates. I can also make custom builds with custom software installed, as per your liking. AdAway built in for example.

Yes, I am using. I installed lineageos 18.1 but it's graphical performance wasn't as good as 16.0, animation looked like stuttering it was awkward. So I installed your ROM. I preper vanilla lineageos 16.0 over prebuilt packages included.

Thanks for the updates. My Mi5s is going strong, battery life as good as ever. I run battery charge limit and charge to 80%, recharge from 40%. Get plenty enough use during the day and it's very quick to charge when needed.
Coming up to 5 years, of use, it's the longest I've used the same phone. With everything working well including my banking apps it does what I need!
While it would be good to have a later android version, 16 works well on this device - appreciate your time to keep it updated.

I appreciate your feedback! My Mi 5s is also the only phone I've ever used for that long. And yes, Android 9 is getting old, but it will run for an year or two more. And by that time our phones will probably have some hardware defects forcing us to move to something newer.
I am also still using the mi5s, I am on the last official 16.0. I appreciate your effort and will install an update now.

I've compiled the next build with the latest security patches. Uploading later today.
I tried to install your latest build.
I got a boot loop. After a couple of seconds the mi symbol again and again.. Then also installed the latest los 16 from january, to no avail.
Fortunately I managed to restore from backup, on the second try.

but android 12 gapps for android 13?
Thanks! I will use it as daily driver now. Everything seems working just as the last build from Android 12.
Please when you try to fix, on klte / klteduos,if you can, please fix to work on 3G only mode. On Android 11 and 12 and many other builds I tried from your custom ROM only 4G works but I preffer 3G as its more stable where I live. Thanks in advance

Running Quite smooth on a SM-G800W8 but Emulators like to run quite slow unless I hold my finger on the screen, Thank you.
Great news, thanks Khalvat. Would it work if i made a dirty flash over your android 12.1 rom? I tell you it cause gapps are the same. Thanks in advanced.
since the power button is not working on my KLTE I won't be able to install cuz I wake the screen with that button I will wait for a fix
Thanks so much for supporting our 8 year old phone! I noticed that adoptable storage doesn't work anymore (it did on 19.1). The option doesn't show up when you insert an SD card, it just says "SD card for transferring photos and media". If I manually format it with `sm partition <disk> private` then the phone bootloops (gets to lock screen for a few seconds then crashes). Just wondering if there is a plan to get this working soon, because I fill up my phone's space fairly quickly .
Thanks again for keeping our old phones up-to-date!

Same here, stuck on the LOS animation for an hour. Same as the last couple 19.1 builds (w/ or w/o Gapps). July 19.1 is the last one that works fine.
@kltelegacy - This is on klte. From the 12.1 thread - others (only on klte) had the same issue:
Unfortunately, on klte, both TWRP update and clean install fail to boot (sits on LOS animation forever), even w/o any Gapps. I had also tried MtG and OpenGapps 12L unofficial nano and micro, same thing. I had the same issue was on the Aug build, but Jul was fine. No SIM installed.

Thank you very much, Sir KHALVAT for your unpayable effort in keeping our beloved Samsung Galaxy S5 KTLE always running the latest Android release. I did a clean installation of the ROM and flashed the BitGApps version 1.4 as recommended, and since the first day I am using my phone without any severe issue. The installation through TWRP version 3.6.2_9-0 went smoothly, and so did the first setup of the phone through the wizard. All my data and configurations saved on Google Drive were restored.
Today, I noticed in one of the repositories on GitHub that SELinux will pass to ENFORCING in the next release of the ROM. I hope that the missing functionalities mentioned in the OP will also be implemented.
For all those users following the thread, please do a clean installation if you really wish to enjoy Android 13 on your KLTE device.
Once again, many thanks to KHALVAT and all those contributing in code and / or giving constructive feedbacks.
