Hello,
does anyone know if Android Auto is finally available on the new models of Toyota?
I'm interested in Toyota Yaris (which models exaclty?) available in Italy.
I've read a lot of articles about Toyota agreeing on adding Android Auto support, but haven't found anywhere more details about which cars/models and when.
Tx a lot.
The Toyota Yaris (With GPS) Touch & Go 2, has it's own OS (based on QNX).
I don't own one with the GPS module, So i Got Toyota Touch 2, but not Touch & Go 2 (1200€ upgrade).
I tried to connect My Galaxy S9+ with Android Auto to the Toyota USB, and the only thing I got with android Auto on my Smartphone, is a black screen.
I thought I'd create a topic dedicated to this.
Please chime in on this thread if you have the following scenario:
A Galaxy Note 9 (Snapdragon) - SM-N960U
Your Note 9 is updated to PIE via OTA
A Double-din head unit
Are using Android Auto
Your connection to Android Auto is wireless - No USB Connections
If you meet these conditions, what head unit are you using? Please also detail the quality of the wireless connection. vs wired.
I'm interested in Wireless Android Auto for my note 9, but I also do not want to suffer a massive drop in sound quality, like I do with my current Bluetooth setup, which is currently tape deck to aux (my main problem there in terms of sound quality), then aux to Bluetooth.
I have a Note 9 (N960F) and my head unit has Android Auto but sadly have to have USB plugged in. Would love to not have to if possible
I happened to see this Article on Yahoo! News. As a disclaimer, the title looks like it was written by a drunk person.
Samsung Galaxy and Note phones now support wireless Android Auto
In otherwords, I'm scratching my head, wondering why it's worded "Samsung Galaxy and Note phones", since Note Phones are also Samsung Galaxy.
Hello everyone.
I have the sony XZ1 Compact with Android 9 and I'm not available to connect it to my car with android auto.
Apparently, no one can with this configuration. Is it right? Is a way to do fix it? New Rom, Downgrade, ...
Thanks for your answer.
Loïc
P.s. I tried a few cable, it's a phone issue.
It has worked for me the past 6 months. I am on Android 9, Android Auto 4.2.591434-release with XZ1 compact. Does it work with other phones on your car?
Hi,
On Oreo i had problems with low in-call volume, but on Pie everything works fine without any issues.
Pie 47.2.A.10.45, AA 4.1.590944, XAV-AX100 unit
Hello,
I also have an issue with Sony Xperia XZ1 - Android 9, Android Auto 4.6.593324 - I can't connect it to my car - Kia Niro.
I have tried also with my phone to another car, it also doesn't work.
I've tried with another phone Samsung Galaxy S8 and works perfectly with the same cable. It seems that the issue is with my phone.
Is there a solution for this? Did someone succeed with a Sony XZ1?
Thanks in advance.
It works for me. Android 9, build 47.2.A.11.228 with Android Auto 4.7.593824-release
3rd party cable used in several of my company's fleet vehicles, 2017-2019 Ford Escapes

Hi
Sorry these are probably stupid questions, but I'm having such a hard time finding answers for them.
Is Android Auto a proprietary system that only works with Google's software?
If I have a rooted LineageOS phone without Gapps, will I be able to connect my phone to a car with Android Auto?
Is Android Auto just an app that runs on a smartphone? Then I would guess I should be able to get any app to display on the car's screen? Based on search results I'm assuming that's not so easy, or maybe not possible at all. Then what's the technical limitation preventing me from displaying whatever I want on the head unit and getting input from it? Is there encryption involved?
Thanks in advance.
AA is a client-server app. The head unit of your car should be compatible with it, that is, it should be manufactured to support AA. From the phone's point of view, the AA app should be installed from Google Play store, if the OS is less or equal to Android 9, or it is built-in the OS from Android 10. I do not know if AA could work in your OS, but you can try. Download the AA apk from apkmirror and try installing it. If you do not have a car with an AA compatible head unit, then don't even think to try.
Not all apps in Google store are compatible with AA, they have to be built to work in AA.
In principle, what AA does, is mirroring your phone's display on your car's infotainment display.

Thanks. By client-server do you mean phone-car or phone-car-internet?
I'm less concerned right now whether I can get the apk working or not, and more whether I'll be able to develop on it in the future.
Is the Android Auto app open source? Where is the source code?
Basically what I'm asking is "Can I develop my own software to run on my phone and interact with the car's infotainment system without using any proprietary software?"
My car doesn't have Android Auto. I'm trying to decide whether my next car should have it, or whether it's going to be doomed to be obsolete 3 years after I buy it and I should just get an older model without Android Auto.
The client is your phone and the server is the head unit supporting AA. If internet is used by the apps, then you'll need an internet connection also, but AA itself does not require internet. The only thing it does is mirroring.
If your car does not support AA, then your only option is to replace / install the head unit with one that supports AA.
As far as I understand, AA is open source: https://source.android.com/devices/automotive/start/what_automotive
So you will be able to develop apps that will run on AA too. But you will still need the support on car's head unit. AA works wired (usb cable connecting your phone with the head unit) or, in the newly-released Android 11, wireless, provided that the head unit supports it. It should work wireless in Android 9 and 10 also, but only with certain Google or Samsung devices.

Hello,
I have the same situation: LineageOS (Android 11), no GApps, no google services, no Google Account, No Google playstore.
When I understand you right, I only need the Android Auto apk. (and of course some apps, that support Android Auto, like Mapfactor navigator, Spotify...)
The Android Auto app (which mirrors the GUI of my user app to the Cars display) doesnt need neither a mobile data connection nor any of the Googel services (google push and so on).
Can someone confirm this?
This thread is dedicated for AAWireless users.
AAWireless is a device which allows you to transform your existing wired Android Auto compatible unit into a Wireless Android Auto unit.
General chat, experience sharing and community support should be expected as well as support from the developers of the product: @Snirpo and myself.
Hi, I am an AAWireless beta tester and have been helping test the device.
I have four phones that I use with AAWireless.
Samsung Galaxy S20 5G [Android 11]
Samsung Galaxy S20 FE 5G [Android 11]
Moto G Power (2020) [Android 10]
LG Q7+ [Android 9]
I have a 2020 Hyundai Palisade with the 10.25 inch head unit.
I may be able to help with questions that you may have here.

I'm also an AAWireless beta tester;
I've tested Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Lite;
With my Kia Rio from 2017

En anglais, si tu plait.
Today I received AAWireless box. It works flawlessly on Lenovo P2 with Android 11 and with 9.2″ screen MIB2.5 unit in VW Passat B8.
Thank you very much Emil and Chiel !

Where can I buy AAWireless so that I can become a user? Indiegogo sold out
I got it mine today and except the issue with VPN (which is btw linked to Android auto and not to aawireless), it works flawlessly with no issue at all. Wondering if there's a way to create a sort of tunnel for AA on the VPN but I already wrote to my VPN service provider.
Awesome work Emil and the whole team there!
I received my device today and it worked out of the box! I love it!
I only had one time the problem, that my headunit suddenly completly restarted. I dont know why (maybe the Tap limitation option? I have this disabled via AA AIO Tweaker and in the AAWireless options).
I will report if this happens again.
I wonder if the device records some diagnostics data and send it automaticly to the developers for troubleshooting.
Headunit: Seat MIB2Std + Nav (5QA035846B)
Smartphone: Oneplus 8T (Android 11)
I got the dongle today. While my phone shows that it is connected to Android Auto, the grass unit of my car doesn't do anything (as in the Android Auto launcher doesn't show)
Tried all combinations of USB mode and Pass-through, clearing data of Android Auto app (Pass-through option made the dongle bootloop), unpairing phone from head unit via Bluetooth. No luck.
Phone is Pixel 4
Car is Nissan Qashqai.

Headunit restarting problem happend 2 times in 15 minutes again.
@Emil Borconi, Thank You for all the great work and for starting up this thread so that we can chat, it's much better than trying to do this over the Comments section on Indiegogo.
Hi Everyone, I'm in the waiting queue for my AAWireless, but I am currently running AAGateway on a rooted cell phone and it is working beautifully (with the occasional hiccup). I anticipate that AAWireless will solve the minor, sporadic issues I see with AAGateway.
I received mine couple days ago aswell.
It worked right of the box with zero issues.
The connection is fast and stable.
This is with Pixel 5 and 2017 VW Passat B8 with discover media (MIB2).
Hello, i got Mine some days ago and i am excited Like Most Other Users.
I have no Problems and the Connection is very fast and stable.
Never ever an USB cable.
Thank you for the good Work.
My configuration:
Hyundai i30 pde 2019 with Touch Display
Pixel 5 with Android 11 (Not rooted)

Hi
I also got the box and it works perfectly with my Oneplus 8 Plus and my Kia e-Niro 2021.
Unfortunately, the entire display is not used for Android Auto and there remains a black area on the right that cannot be used.
Is there a way to use the entire screen?
And great device and great Jop!
it works like a charm!! really thx so much @Emil Borconi !
samsung s21 and peugeot nac (3008)
got mine yesterday and i only had some troubles with netguard (VPN "firewall"), since i disbaled the rules for aawireless and android auto it is working.
Pixel 4 XL
Ford Focus MK3
I just received a notification my unit has shipping. I guess I will be one of the first to confirm if this works with a 2020 Subaru Forrester along with my OnePlus 8T+ 5G (KB2007).
I also received my AAwireless a few days ago and am having problems with my Xiaomi Mi10 phone. However, my wife's phone, a Huawei P30 Pro, didn't cause any problems at all. So it's up to MIUI again. That may be safe, but it is extremely annoying with peripherals. Does anyone know these problems with Xiaomi and maybe can help me?
II have no regrets and was one of the first to support on Indiegogo and I would love to do it again!
Edit: Car is a Kia ProCeed GT 2020.
