Keeps force stopping apps without permission - Google Pixel 4a 5G Questions & Answers

Hello guys, So I have a pixel 4a 5G and it keeps force stopping apps even while there open. The app that's really the issue is PDANET, It will randomly close it even if I keep the app open with the screen on. I've turned off all the adaptive battery features, as well as given PDAnet "Unrestricted" Battery access under battery usage.
Any advice on fixing this would be appreciated, I'm willing to go with a different rom if thats whats needed...

[Q] Working for better battery life

Hi all,
I've been working on getting my XT862 to give me more life on the battery. I've rooted and debloated using psousa's stuff, but I'm still not where I'd like to be. I've noticed a few interesting things:
AOS is showing as the top user in the battery monitor. Currently it's at 32% with my display and WiFi bringing up the rear.
Even though I've run the debloat script as root and confirmed the rename of skype.bourbon and motoprint, these things still start up. How is this possible?
BetterBatteryStats shows that the suspend process is my main battery user. How does one fix that?
Any advice on what to look for?
best route is to install a custom ROM and try different ones out for battery life. I would suggest Maverick ROM also make sure you wipe battery stats after installing a new ROM and fully cycle your battery.

I'm guessing suspend is another way of saying System Idle.. if you wanted to get rid of that, make a nandroid backup of your system (via bootstrap or safestrap) and experiment what system apps/services you can freeze (via Titanium Backup) without getting force closes on the stuff that you use. I have about 30-60 system apps/services frozen depending on the ROM that I run. I have no force close issues, and my system idle uses about 1 percent of the battery per hour.
Additionaly, if you are using the CDMA network, force CDMA mode, likewise from GSM/UMTS, if you are using it, force it, do not use Global, as it will have both radios running and searching for service.
Disable the use of wifi when you aren't using it (there is an option to auto turn it off when the screen turns off, however this may cause worse battery life if you are using data as it will try use your mobile network, requiring more power), if you wish to leave it on, increase the scan time interval (i made mine 10 mins, up from the stock 45 seconds)
Auto brightness (it isn't really that bad...)
And get the app called juice defender. Once you set it up it controls all of your wireless stuff. Like turning wifi and 3g off when you turn your screen off, etc.

If you use Wifi often, it is a good idea to check your Wifi Sleep Policy. To do this, navigate to:
Settings > Wireless & Networks > Wifi Settings > Advanced Settings (hit menu to access this) > Wifi Sleep Policy
I have mine set to 'Never'. By default, it was set to turn off the wifi when the screen went off, so any background apps that run and use data default back to the mobile connection. When you turn the phone back on, it turns the Wifi back on from sleep mode. By changing the sleep policy to 'never' you prevent this disconnect/reconnect to Wifi cycle.
This helped my battery life when connected to Wifi. Let me know if it works for you.
Thanks to all
Thank you for your replies everyone. I'll have to get TB and start freezing stuff. What confuses me though is how a service like Verizon Apps or Skype Mobile gets started even though it was renamed ".bak" by psousa's script. Also, I've noticed that when I run the restore bloat software, I don't get back all the apps in my app drawer. I'm not sure why that is.
Is it possible something got screwed up if I ran the debloat script twice? I see that it does a bunch of mv proggie.apk proggie.apk.bak type work. If the first file wasn't found, is it possible that it overwrote the .bak with gibberish?
My WiFi sleep policy is never because I have WiFi all day and I like Google Talk a lot. I'd be happy if I could get WiFi/Display as my top users, just AOS seems like a bug.
I'm on UTMS so it's forced to that all the time.
Maybe the answer is to try the mods. Or maybe SBF to the stock and try again?

[Q] Assist Driving GPS Battery Drain?

I know when using Assist Driving I need to leave GPS on or else I have to keep toggling GPS for it to actually work while driving which ruins the point of the app. How much of a battery drain do you think the Moto X has while leaving GPS on, I have read it has a low powered sensor and was wondering if anyone had any information.

Android is the only mobile OS where you HAVE to switch off GPS when not using it, if you wish to get acceptable battery life. ios has a VERY simple yet effective method for managing GPS by simply allowing the user to select which apps are allowed to use GPS. The user selected apps are only allowed GPS access when the user accesses those apps. As soon as you leave the app, if it tries to access GPS ios says NO THANKS JEFF. Battery drain while using GPS is also less than half that of Android in my experience. It's because Google makes a lot of it's money from data mining (collecting your personal info and location to sell to advertisers) the google services are constantly wanting to know your location so that Google can make their ad dollars with complete disregard to your battery life/user experience.
While I love Android, it does have many shortcomings, and it's incredibly idiotic GPS management system, or lack thereof, is one of them.
If you use GPS a lot, and you're dead set on using Android, you can get an NFC tag and set it to switch on GPS once the tag is in range. There are various apps that can do this, I forget which one my buddy uses.
I leave gps on all the time and have excellent battery life. Would it be better if i turned it off? Perhaps. I'd get even better battery life if I turned the entire phone off. What is the point of having a feature rich phone if you have to mess with turning things on and off all the time?
You can opt out of most of the location services mentioned in this thread. If you do that; gps only uses power when an app requests a location. The driving assist is a great app with great features; one of which is never having to worry about turning it on and off. Turn it on and enjoy the phone's features.

You can do the same with Tasker.
You don't have to turn GPSooff, ever. The only time the receiver is pulling power is when you see the icon in your pull down bar. If that's not there, GPS is totally off as if you toggled it off yourself. No power draw. On a n4 I can lose 3% over 8 hours idle, GPSleft on.
A rogue app is the only thing that could be problematic, if its initiating the gGPS while screen is off and you'renot ppayingattention. But this is rare almost extinct if yusing any mainstream app.

SnapDragon battery guru

This might seem like a question but its not.
Personally what is your opinion on the snapdragon battery guru? Like does it help you out at all?
Any comments on it? I Tried it on my HTC before i broke it (had it for 2 months lmfao) and it was in learning mode and started doing crazy stuff to my phone like turning things on and off and it got annoying but im thinking of using it now since my htc got like 16 hours of battery and i only get about half of that now even after tweaking everything.
Im currently not using it but yes it does help a bit
In my experience it wakelocked my device quite a lot, especially if you move around too much (work, travel). It's whole operation is based on user location, so it has to wake your phone to fetch location and do whatever it needs to do. In the it was a ****ton of wakelocks.
Your experience may vary, try it out yourself and monitor it with wakelock detector.

thanks to the wifi problem that comes with kitkat i have to keep my location on "device only" and the app keeps asking for 'location services required'
It Helps
I have been using it for months now. It does help with battery life. I like how it automatically refreshes apps based on usage. I have tons of apps but very few i want to refresh automatically. The low power mode is nice to get the most out of my remaining battery without me having to turn off everything and dim the screen manually.

What root app can keep idle use in check?

Galaxy s4, honor 6 and now mi5. All of my android phones have had terrible terrible standby battery life. Wifi, Google services, location services, that android media service.
It's like whack a mole. As soon as I freeze or uninstall one app another pops up. I have tried more than 20 different apps to stop the idle battery use. The one thing that worked for me was Leandroid that automatically turns off data connection after screen off. This doesn't work in miui though.
So TL;DR how do I stop idle battery drain. I just installed the latest unofficial rom. I know as soon as I install Facebook/messenger the drain will start. Recommend an app (rootl
Thank you
Out of the 20 apps, did you set up Greenify with Xposed? Through settings, you can enable agressive doze.

Bluetooth drain

Morning all
Probably a silly question but while Bluetooth is on - myy s10 doesnt go to sleep and the battery drains very fast.
With it off its fine.
Unfortunately I use BT for my sony wireless buds and Galaxy watch.
Are there any tweaks to help out with battery life?
Its connected to the watch all the time while im wearing it so is this something i need to get used to?

Hmmn. I keep mine on to connect to my Xiaomi Mi Band 5 though I notice it Bluetooth does turn off occasionally. Hadn't noticed S10e draining faster (it does seem to still go to sleep) but maybe I haven't been paying enough attention. I'll be interested in any replies.
Try disabling all power management.
Load Karma Firewall. Android Services and Goggle Play Services* are big offenders.
Unfortunately if your on Q or higher Karma's logging feature doesn't work. This shows you real time what's hogging the internet and battery.
Another reason I'm still on Pie.
* enable briefly to access Gmail etc.
I have been using Better Battery Stats to keep an eye on it.
While BT is on the CPU sits at 1.95 at over 90% of the time I've tested it against.
With BT off - it does goto sleep and battery is loads better.
I need it on for the reasons above but its a right hog.

Disabled all power management.
Try clearing apk data and going back to factory load.
Clear system cache on boot menu.
Disable any 3rd party apks other than Wearables using bt.
Start locking down apks that don't really need internet access with Karma Firewall* until you find the hog. Probably a system apk and the drain may actually be from constant internet traffic. Misreporting which apk is the culprit isn't uncommon as many have related dependencies.
*if you're running Q or higher it's logging function is disable I believe. It works fine with Pie and is an important tool. Otherwise you'll need to do it the hard way. Thanks Google, you suck.
Android Services, Google Play Services, Google Backup Transport and Google Framework are all hog candidates. Best to package block the last two and clear apk data on all but Android services as needed. This what I did to take my 10+ running on Pie.
