Don't you need two radios to have two lines active at the same time? You mean switching between phone calls or merging two different phone lines on one call? I do think MEP is functioning on the P7 but only DSDS. Also I'm not sure if you can have dual eSims and a physical sim or only 2 working at once. Curious to see the specs on this too.

I mean DSDS with two eSIM at the same time. Right now only combo possible is eSIM + physical with older pixels. There are rumors of MEP implementation but explicit dual eSIM support (DSDS) is not mentioned anywhere officially.

It looks like dual eSim is supported. They are implementing it rather quietly but it should be there according to all accounts I've read.
Dual SIM (Single Nano SIM and eSIM) on the official google spec page
Looking for dual eSim not necessarily dual anything else.
When I tried to activate the second eSIM on my new Pixel 7 it told me I should turn off the other active eSIM, it did not suggest that turning off the physical SIM is an option.

Thanks, and I wonder why they are delaying this. I think the iPhone latest has it already. I'm hoping the 7a will have it at the get go. That's what I'll be getting if it comes in at 6.1 again.
It works fine on my phone, AT&T and Tmobile (esim)
I have 1 eSIM and 1 regular SIM running. It does give me an option to add an eSIM, bt I don't want to try it because setting up the first one was a nightmare and I don't want to lose it.

Dual eSIM no longer works. It was removed from Pixel 7 over a month ago.
That said, back when it was working you could only use a total of 2 lines at a time. Either 2 eSIM or 1 eSIM + 1 pSIM.

I've read that it will have a traditional SIM slot as well as the eSIM slot. Previous versions didn't allow them to be used simultaneously. Sounds like the 4 will allow that? I currently use a Note 9 international version with Dual-SIM in the US with T-Mobile & AT&T. Wondering if I purchase through T-Mobile (or direct from Google) - can I use them with the eSIM and AT&T with the nano SIM?
Thoughts? Guides? Links to more info? Much appreciated!
The word was it would be DSDS rather than DSSS. I've seen no confirmation of that yet although the commits are there and a Google engineer openly commented about ongoing testing. I'm hopeful but also looking for some confirmation.

Not 100% sure what you're asking but if you tell it to "ask every time" you dial then a screen will pop up asking you which sim you want to use when you dial a number. You can change that so that one is the default all the time but then to change the dialer sim you will need to go back into settings.
Yeah, that's the Pixel 3a method, I have one so I'm familiar with the options. Samsung has a similar base setup but if you don't set a default it puts 2 dial buttons in the dialer, one for each line. Doing that you can simply dial off of whichever line you want on the fly instead of having to select from the toast. It's a cleaner setup that saves a step. I've been hoping it made it in because it was an acknowledged feature request. Maybe next time...

Oh got ya. That sounds cool. I'd like to see something like that. Definitely would save a bunch of dialing steps. The toast is problematic at times.
Has anyone gotten T-Mobile to work on eSIM with another carrier on a physical SIM? According to a XDA thread on Pixel 3a XL, they did this.
I have T-Mobile working on the physical sim and Fi working on the e-sim, but it's not simultaneously.
In Italy next week i will ne able to try a eSim... I will update you
Can confirm I could not transfer my eSIM to T-Mobile by giving EID. The tech support claimed it needs to be a T-Mobile bought phone. I bought an unlocked Pixel 4 xl. I wonder if the boot or system img tailored to the T-Mobile versions could get the eSIM to work.
TMobile does not support esim yet, according to TMobile. I tried to get a Tmobile purchased 4xl to use the esim.
So, if I'm GoogleFi I can have my GoogleFi account running from the eSim and also get an additional SIM from GoogleFi and have both slots active with Google Sims? Is that correct?

I know they are planning that but not sure if it's active yet. I thought I saw it coming in 2020 but perhaps they pulled the trigger already.
Dual connect for FI is not yet active on pixel 4/xl. The firmware is coming this or next month

Why did you need tech support? It looks pretty straightforward to me. Scan the code and install eSim number. I wonder if I can use a physical sim for one Verizon number and the eSim for another on Vzw. Then I can drop Fi finally.
I needed tech cause my current number is attached to an iPhone esim and I needed them to be able to transfer the number back to the Pixel.

Are you sure about that? When I transferred my phone number to another phone via eSim it just asked for my phone number (I think.. now I'm not sure exactly) but I had the activated phone turned off and then just enabled eSim on the new phone and the phone number was there. The old phone eSim was deactivated. I think the message was something like if you install the eSim here then all other eSims will be deactivated. Maybe with Verizon the process is different but it's basically the same as switching physical sims. You take it out of one phone, put it in another and done. Heck, turn off the iPhone and try to activate the eSim on the Pixel see what happens. (easy for me to say lol)

Could you post a link? I've checked on Verizon and there is nothing on using an eSim for the pixel 4. The only thing I see online is that the pixel 4 isn't compatible with eSim

Even from the link you posted it shows they're clueless. To have to go through that nonsense when it should only take a scan of QR code is absurd. I'll wait a few months for them to clear it up.

I agree. On an iPhone it's just a simple QR code scan and you're done. I'll wait until Verizon figures out how to do it right.
Last week I activated eSim with T-Mobile. I first had to call and tell the rep EID of my phone. Then I went to settings>network... and then next to mobile network, I tapped + sign and followed the steps. (I did open T-Mobile esim support page which had QR code or I could type some info myself.)

Yes, it did.
A day before, I put physical sim into an iPhone to test. Then next day I wanted to put the sim card back into my Pixel 4 and at that time I remembered about eSIM . Called T-Mobile and when the rep entered EID of my Pixel, he told that that the phone we talk on(iPhone) will get disconnected and it did. He did notify me if the sim is inserted into Pixel 4, to remove it... looks like it is best to remove the physical before connecting eSIM.
If I buy the unlocked from the Google store will Volte and Wifi calling work? I've known in the passed unlocked ones it didn't.
My google store stock unlocked pixel 3xl works with verizon volte and wifi calling. Visual voicemail does not work, most likely because I am on prepaid.
Do you have to do anything special for Verizon volte and wificalling or will putting a SIM in unlocked pixel 5 just work? I am coming from Pixel2 with volte but not wificalling
You have to enable both separately in the mobile network settings. I don't recall having to do anything on the carrier side.

You can just roll it into your monthly bill and pay over 2 years. No further credit checks either. Bootloader will most likely be locked forever though so buyer beware if you are into root. And if you wait until black Friday you can probably get a BOGO deal of some sort.

I went ahead and just preorderd the Pixel 5 Unlocked from google. Hope it works especially wifi calling.
Verizon's HD voice, volte and wifi calling work fine on my wifes unlocked Pixel 3 XL and my unlocked Pixel 4 XL. The unlocked Pixel 5 will probably be the same.
Volte and wifi calling work. Hd calling needs to be activated in your vzw account. Wifi calling works but has to have the radio turned off.
Now for the $64 dollar question: vzw has there own version and it seems Google's version won't do 5G on vzw. Why....?

I don't even know how I got involved with this discussion since I don't have 5G where I live but here I am anyway. So.. they actually do mention the Pixel 5 but as you say not the Verizon branded one. Reason being it doesn't matter whether you buy the P5 from VZW or not, they work identical. Here is the exact quote: "However, all U.S. Pixel 5 (model ID GD1YQ) and Verizon-sold Pixel 4a 5G (G6QU3) units will also be able to access high-band millimeter wave spectrum — supercharged throughput with extremely limited coverage." Which should probably put this part of the thread to rest.
As for wifi calling it was stated a few posts ago that you need to have the radio turned off for wifi calling to work. That is not the case, at least on my Google P4. Wifi calling is working whether or not I have the radio on or off. If the signal is good wifi calling is in effect.

if it's verizon and they are still doing on the 5 what they did on the 3, then probably no. On the 3, pretty sure the way verizon avoided issues with people running off with their not fully paid phone (using esim) was to have them made without an esim chip.

I'm well aware the 3 is a diff animal, and said as much in my initial post. And indicated that 'if it was the same as the 3', because I don't have a 5 and have no idea if it is or not.
All I know is that the 3, the vzw version, you can't enable it. And it appears the reason is that it simply isn't there on the vzw version.
I repeat again, for those that don't bother to look at the eniter 'context' of the thread, my reference is to the 3, not the 5. I'm only guessing the 5 vzw may be the same. I don't know that it is.
