Current root with magisk SM-J327P (other versions might work idk) - Samsung Galaxy J3 (2017) Guides, News, & Discussio

This is how you can get you J3 rooted with magisk on latest firmware. I only have the sprint version, Im not sure if it will work the exact same on others but i cant imagine it be all that different. this is not a ROM however it is fairly simple.
if you brick your phone im not responsible, this is completely your doing.
First step: Prepping your device
backup any data you want to keep on the phone, even if you do not think there is any still look
this can be done many ways, none of which are going to be listed here. also enable OEM Unlocking in developer settings
Second step: Download the needed files
links are here:
Odin: https://forum.xda-developers.com/attachments/odin3-v3-14-1_3b_patched-zip.5158507/
TWRP: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=745425885120715171
Magisk: https://github.com/topjohnwu/Magisk/releases (raname FILE_NAME.apk --> FILE_NAME.zip)
Im not sure if patched odin is needed but it is what i used and it worked ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Third step: Flashing
Un-tick auto-reboot in options tab and flash the twrp tar file in the AP slot. Then boot into recovery and under wipe, tap FORMAT DATA (this will wipe the internal storage)
After that flash the magisk.zip file under INSTALL, leave any settings to their defaults and let it run, it will take a few minutes
Once that is finished you will have a rooted J3 with android 6.0.1
This may have already been posted but i didn't see if it was. for all i know this is one of the most typical rooting methods so generally it shouldn't be anything new.
As for devices, i know nothing. if anyone with a j3 other than sprint lmk
Lord forbid anything goes wrong you can download the stock rom and flash back with odin

[EXPERIMENTAL] Flashing on G900A_OC4 - 5.0 Lollipop

FlashFire - Play BETA - PREVIEW
1. Join the G+ community using the same Google account as you're using for Play on your phone/tablet Here.
2. Sign up to receive the BETA versions from Play Here.
- Use the link provided after sign-up to download the app
With the amazing work by @Chainfire we are blessed with a what seems to be almost perfect replacement for SafeStrap. Yes, this is still in Beta and you should go into this expecting to soft brick your phone every time when flashing something with this. That's why we need some brave souls to test the limits of FlashFire for our poor device.
If you would like to help contribute to see what we can flash with this application here are a couple tutorials on flashing by @muniz_ri
http://forum.xda-developers.com/att...w-to-update-to-g900aoca-5-0-keeproot-t3076803
http://forum.xda-developers.com/att...-to-enable-native-tethering-g900aoc4-t3078561
If you come across anything that you can flash from the smallest things or even ROMs that you have found compatible please share the knowledge here and I will try to put it in an index that others can see through this beta testing and early phase of Android Lollipop for the G900A.
ROMs that have been confirmed to be flashed and working:
G900A_OC4 5.0 Stock Rooted Android Lollipop by @muniz_ri
Miscellaneous things that have been confirmed to be flashed and working:
Native Tethering by @muniz_ri
300 Fonts for Lollipop and KitKat by @nitol
Titanium Backup's update.zip file
Remote Play Installer
Notes:
If your device stays at the black screen when you try to flash something simply pull the battery out. Then, boot into recovery and wipe the cache partitions. That should allow you to boot your device again after failure.
If you find yourself in a boot loop and downgrading back to NCE you can restore your 5.0 backup while on 4.4.2 (if you made one like you should have) by following my tutorial in the following link. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=60095108&postcount=21
Here is what I know so far about FlashFire's capabilities on locked bootloader devices:
- Will run on Android v4.x.x/5.0.x.
- Will not trip your Knox Warranty Flag.
- Will flash ROM's (use "flash .zip or ota" option).
- No AROMA installer ROM's.
- Caution! FF flashes to the boot partition, i.e. flashing custom kernels will result in soft brick!
- You can drop a Full Odin .tar or .zip file containing the raw images onto your device and it will flash system, kernel, cache, and recovery (will not flash modem, non-hlos, or bootloader) (use "flash firmware package" option).
- You can flash the remaining partitions via a .zip at the same time or via your PC using Odin.
- Flashes .tars with unsigned images, e.g. system.img.ext4, modem.bin. (use "flash firmware package" option).
- You can also flash individual (un-.tar'd) images, e.g. recovery.img, boot.img.
- Flashes .zip files, e.g. mod's, SuperSu Update.zips, etc (use "flash .zip or ota" option).
- Makes Backups of and Restores all partitions.
- Wipes partitions.
- Injects Root.
I will add here as I test and learn more.
Also want to add a note of caution....if you are a noob and don't have much experience with these things don't rush in. Best to sit back until safe and responsible guides are created. I for one am not at all sympathetic to those that don't take the time to read and understand before jumping in.

One of my questions about FlashFire is will it work on encrypted phones? My work phone is Verizon GS5 and SafeStrap would not work because of my encryption, so I'd be very interested in updating that phone without losing root if it will work. Thanks for all your work!
I attempted to flash Alliance ROM 7.1 from the International Forums.
My Steps:
1. Downgrade to NCE
2. Root
3. SuperSU
4. Install FlashFire
5. Set up FlashFire in the following order;
- Wipe
- Flash Partitions and Bootloader
- Flash Alliance ROM
Everything looked to be working perfectly, but it was getting stuck on the second boot screen. Going to try it again, but after I finish installing Stock Rooted 5.0 again. Maybe it will work then. Only one way to figure out.
Great thread. I'll have a deodexed build up in the next few days then start adding mods and working on other things

Tried to flash Allience in zip/ota and after it wipes it says that it is installing the .zip file for a second then it stops and reboots. Could this be a bug from FlashFire or the ROM not compatible?
Maybe try a dirty flash of the ROM?
I grab a stock ROM directly from G900F, make G900A boot.img and system.img.ext4 into tar.md5. Flash as package in FireFlash along with G900A_OC4_Stock_Partitions_wOA1_BL.zip. Works out pretty well. Just need to disable KNOX with Titanium Backup (for some reason SuperSU doesn't detect KNOX being present) and use Root Explorer to get csc through.
However haven't figured out how to enable VoLTE yet.

I tried the dirty flash. Just stuck at black screen. I let it sit for 25 min then did a battery pull. Rom did not install. I'll leave it alone tonight before i have to stay up all night fixing a soft brick. Haha.

That is some very useful information. Can't wait to give it a go tomorrow! Time for some rest.
Do you have SQLite Editor? Maybe VoLTE can be implemented though it.

@Nyxerosoir It's not that the option that is not there. It is just I am not able to enable it (grayed out) or it says "VoLTE is not supported by your current software version. Contact customer service for more details." if I try to enable it on quick settings.

A general principle to keep in mind is when flashing ROM's at the very least the kernel needs to match the system, i.e. 5.0 system requires the G900A Stock 5.0 kernel, 4.x system requires the G900A Stock 4.x kernel. The matching G900A Stock non-hlos will likely also be required in order for the ROM to work correctly.
I finally managed to get the font package by @nitol to work. The first time I ended up with a bootloop, but then I tried wiping dalvik and cache and flashing. Worked like a charm! Updated it in the OP for the index.
Can i upgrade from custom 4.4.2 to stock 5.0 via flashfire without needing a pc odin to flash bootloader and modem ? (I have G900F so unlocked bootloader)

Rooting my Note 3

First off I would like to say that I am brand new to this forum and to modifying android devices so please bare with me as I am a beginner. So my initial question is what is the best way to root my ATT Samsung Galaxy Note 3 SM-N900A running Lollipop 5.0? I've tried some one click root methods but none ever seemed to work for my phone model which brings me to the whole Odin program. I've been hesitant to use Odin for rooting my device because I don't want it to wipe my data which brings me to my next question, what is the best way to backup my android device and restore it when it is rooted? Again I would like to say I am a beginner so please bare with me, any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you're running stock lollipop, there is currently no method to root the phone without rolling it back to KitKat (NC2) and then rooting and upgrading to a pre-rooted lollipop stock. You need to use odin, there's no escape.
1. Backup your data/apps from the internal storage since you'll lose everything from your internal storage (use MyBackup pro or a similar app), although it won't be able to take the backup of apps' data since you don't have root access at the moment, but at least it will backup apks, messages, call log and other stuff. Make sure you set the backup path to extSD card if you run MyBackup Pro.
2. Download odin from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2711451
3. Download the stock odin flashable NC2 files from here:https://mega.nz/#F!wg5wRQrQ!vR7a6pze9dgSWjbaRSyhWA
4. Put your phone in the download mode; it can be done through pressing the volume down and home button simultaneously while powering up the phone.
You'll notice that the 2 starting characters of the files (BL,AP,CP and CSC) are the same as the options found in Odin. Load the files in Odin as they match with their downloaded counterparts (ie. BL in BL, CP in CP, CSC in CSC and AP in AP) and flash it.
5. Initialize the device afresh and let it boot.
6. Once the phone boots up and you've completed the crappy startup questions, install towelroot (https://towelroot.com) and root your phone. Install supersu and busybox from playstore and install them. Download and install safestrap (http://forum.xda-developers.com/devdb/project/dl/?id=7216)
7. Download the pre-rooted OC2 stock rom from here: https://mega.nz/#!qc8QHI6T!_8x88BL-ivTM0yj5uhbmNITernym8HMr2VKJJZB9JeE
8. Download SuperSu zip from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=3478515&d=1442612185
9. Download the OC1 Patch firmware from here: https://mega.nz/#!fQ8nSbbA!qzw9IzKf6BzwY0IOHGjGFOmV1QgWoYv-AV4NsjyuiT8
10. Download the OC2 Patch firmware from here: https://mega.nz/#!iF8xBS6Z!XQNgLscWM5SOOddlkunQYBCQp2QO03raEMN91sF1g34
11. Download Xposed framework (optional) from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=3454433&d=1440761913
12. Download OC1/OC2 fixes/patches from here (download only the ones you think you'll need): http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-3-att/development/8-24-15-t3185574
13. Put all these zips in a single folder either in your internal storage or on your extSD card.
14. Run safestrap and reboot to recovery.
15. In the recovery, go to advanced wipe and factory reset your device.
16. Flash the zips that you've downloaded in steps 7-12 in the following order:-
Flash main ROM
Flash SuperSU
Flash Xposed (optional)
Flash OC1 patch firmware
Flash OC2 patch firmware
Flash OC2 Addons/Fixes
Wipe Dalvik Cache
Reboot
17. It'll take a while to boot since the ROM is de-odexed, give it 15 mins or so, and when it boots, you'll have a rooted OC2 lollipop firmware. Enjoy!

Firstly, thank you so much for taking the time to reply and put this tutorial together for me. Secondly, since I am not experienced with any of this I do have some follow-up questions. My first question is what is Xposed framework exactly and do you recommend it? On step 12 you linked a thread with a plethora of downloads available so could be more specific of which files I particularly need to download in my case? In step 16 how do I flash all of the listed files? By this I mean will I be in something like Recovery or Boot Mode that allows me the option to flash them or what? Also, will there be an option to "Wipe Dalvik Cache" because I am unaware of what that is and how to do that? Sorry for my abundance of questions but again I am new to all of this. Thank you again for all of the help you have allotted thus far.

Issues with latest official TWRP 2.8.7.0 for Galaxy S3 4G I9305 and how to fix it

Hi everyone,
some who frequently read the forum may know already that there are issues with the latest official TWRP for the Galaxy S3 LTE. The recovery partition on the Galaxy S3 LTE is too small for the latest recovery provided by TWRP. The partitions are messed up, you won't be able to mount /system and /data. Some users couldn't even flash their preferred ROM. As of now the buggy recovery is getting fixed.
I am not responsible for any damage, losing data or weird behavior you encounter while doing one of the following steps. As reported by several users step 1 was the way for them to fix their phone. Be sure of what you're doing. Make sure you know how to boot into recovery/Download Mode to do these things mentioned here and how to use odin. If not, XDA users have provided several guides. Use the search.
If you already flashed the faulty recovery, flashed a custom ROM with it and your phone ends up in a bootloop there are several ways to fix this issue.
1. Via odin and official stock firmware - please note: You might lose all your data you have on your internal storage
Download the latest official Samsung firmware from sammobile or look on XDA for provided stock ROMs by the AMCHA team. Boot your phone into Download Mode and flash the official firmware via odin. If you're done, reboot into stock recovery (which will be provided after flashing the stock firmware), perform a factory reset and let your phone boot up once. First boot might take some time, so be patient. Although the first boot might not be needed, do it anyway to see if your phone is still in a bootloop or suffers from other damage. If the phone boots up fine reboot into Download Mode again, flash TWRP 2.8.5.0 or any other latest custom recovery (preferably the recovery the maintainers recommend in their development threads) and flash your preferred ROM. Your phone should now work as it should.
2. Via stock based custom ROM (if you haven't flashed any ROM via TWRP 2.8.7.0 already - please note: You might lose all your data in this process as well
Some users managed to get their phone working by flashing a stock based custom ROM like AMCHA or N4 Elite. If you only flashed the buggy recovery and didn't flash a custom ROM this way should be the step you should try first. Download any stock based custom ROM and flash it via the faulty one. If your phone boots up fine, boot into Download Mode and downgrade recovery or use any other recovery recommended for the ROM you're using. If you encounter issues or weird behavior with your phone go with step 1.
3. Via flashing a fixed TWRP 2.8.7.0 - please note: You might as well lose data
In this option you can flash a fixed version of TWRP which an user of XDA has provided. Many thanks to StdBarbarossa for his work. Unfortunately in his build you cannot mound your SD card via PC as it's not working at the moment. Make sure you have all the needed files already on your SD card. For some users this way was working for them. Boot your phone into recovery, click on install, change from .zip to .image, choose the Alpha17.img, install it by swiping and reboot your phone into recovery. Perform a wipe (preferably a factory reset, cache and dalvik cache might be working too) and see if your phone boots up fine. Here the same: if you're still facing issues go with step 1.
Link for the TWRP Alpha17 2.8.7.0 https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B-tlso-zNf9NMWlMMFpiYmYwTzA/view
I have gone through the same issue. In my case I only managed to get my phone working again with step one as I had flashed a custom ROM via the buggy recovery and ended up in a bootloop. As stated, others have managed to fix their phone with either option 2 or 3.
Link for the fixed TWRP is provided in the spoiler.
If you're not sure about something ask here first before you might brick your phone. If you know any other way to fix this issue feel free to post it here.

Back to stock

Hy
I see that a lot of people (so did I) had problems of going back to stock, so i wil write a little guide for doing this.
I am not responsibility i anything goes wrong.
Before starting you need the following:
Odin3-v3.07 => you can find it here (CF-Auto-Root)
firmware => http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/
Before we begin, we need two files. The firmware that you have downloaded and also a file rom this firmware called hidden.img.tar.
Open your firmware with winrar and extract the file "hidden.img". When you have this file rename it to "hidden.img.tar"
Now we can really begin
step 1: (optional)
go to recovery (Vol+ & home & Pwr) and wipe your phone.
step 2:
Open Odin as administrator and put your phone in download mode ( Vol - & home & Pwr)
Click on the "AP" button and choose your firmware.
When the firmware is loaded click "start". The firmware will now being flashed on your phone. Most likely you wil get an error after a while when it was flashing the "hidden.img" file (no stress
step 3:
Unplug your phone and reboot it again to download mode (nothing else will work at this point) and connect it again to your PC. In Odin click again on the "AP" button and choose the file that we have created before the "hidden.img.tar" file. When loaded click on "start".
You don't get an error this time and your phone will restart and your phone is being flashed. when your are stuck at a bootloop, go to step 4
step 4:
Put your phone in recovery mode (will look a bit different if you had custom recovery before) and wipe your phone back to factory settings
I hope that this can help other people who where stuck trying to go back to stock
That's a good guide, thank you, worked for me flawlessly.
It might however be good to add: be patient on first boot! It takes ages
Hmm I am not sure. But for me the step 3 was not needed. I did not get error for hidden.img
Is it OK ? I was following your guide did everything as you wrote here till step 3 but during flashing the error was not there
Hope it will be working. Right now it is doing the first boot so waiting and waiting. Hope it will work as I need to return this phone to my older brother who borrow it to me. And I want to give him the phone as it was when he gave it to me.

thanks for replay T_M
now i know my model is SM-G800FZKADBT so i can only download rom for this model - yes?
Sorry for pulling this old thread from its grave.
I have wiped my Samsung S5 min (SM-G800F, DBT) completely, i.e. all(!) partitions and also did a "format data", since no data worth to keep were on it. Then I started Odin as admin, placed the official latest Samsung FW (G800FXXU1CRG3_G800FDBT1CRE1_G800FXXU1CRG3_HOME.tar.md5) in the "AP" field, had only "Auto Reboot" and "F. Reset Time" under "Options" ticked, and nothing under "Pit". The flashing worked without errors and the S5 mini rebooted. The "SAMSUNG" logo was blinking for about 10 minutes, but I was already warned that this first boot may really take a while. Finally, the device successfully booted into regular/stock system.
Now my questions:
So far, have I done everything right to go back to stock? I have not tampered with a "hidden.img" or "hidden.img.tar" file, hence this question.
Next, I would like to flash the latest official TWRP. Is it right to put "twrp-3.3.1-0-kminilte.img.tar" in the "AP" field of Odin (as before for the stock FW) and flash it? I would this time not select "Auto Reboot", but instead after successful flashing, plug the USB cable, remove the battery, place it back, and start the S5 mini (SM-G500F) to recovery by holding power + home + volume up. Correct?
Finally, I would lake to have Magisk. Is it right to place the official "Magisk-v20.2.zip" on the external SD card (oh, I wiped that before, too) and to flash it from recovery (TWRP) and then reboot the device to system?
Do I have to enable the developer options and (also?) ADB debugging for any of the aforementioned steps?
Thanks a lot for your helpful hints.
PS:
Stock worked nicely. Then I enabled developer options, ADB debugging, and flashed 1. TWRP (step 2 above) and 2. Magisk (step 3 above). Booting to system took much longer while a message about Android being started and App No. x of y being optimized. Since stock ROM contains tons of crappy apps, this took quite a while. I wonder why now (after flashing TWRP and Magisk) the system sees the need to optimise apps. Ah, is it because I also wiped cache and dalvik cache from TWRP after flashing Magisk? Maybe this was not needed, I dunno...

[GUIDE] [VIDEO] - SM-T550 w/ debloated, xposed-free Marshmallow (Indian ROM)

Samsung Galaxy Tab A
Only for: SM-T550
A trick has been found which will give you root on a brand spaking new Marshmallow ROM for your SM-T550 Samsung Galaxy Tab A. This guide assumes the following:
That you know how to use FlashFire to preserve root on an official OTA update.
That you are aware of the functionality of SuperSU.
That you are starting the process from a stock-rooted Lollipop ROM w/ TWRP recovery installed.
That you own a PC with the correct Samsung drivers and ADB+Fastboot, that you've tested ADB, and it's working.
All of that said, let's begin.
Step 1
Make yourself a backup, both a nandroid in TWRP, and grab all of your important documents, music, videos, hardcore XXX, excetra, from your Internal memory and copy them to your PC. I am not responsible for the loss of data while using this guide.
Step 2
Go and download the French / Indian variant of the ROM on Samdroid. When you have inhaled 3 cups of coffee, listened to some vaperwave, banged head here a few times (on something soft, please. no liability for concussions), your download should be done. Samdroid takes a while, especially when you have a free account. You'll get the official tar.gz file.
Step 3
Copy the tar.gz firmware to the Internal Storage of your device.
Step 4
Get FlashFire from the Google Play store on the tablet.
Step 5
Open FlashFire and grant it root access. This next step is the use of FlashFire. Follow these instructions:
Tap the floating red bubble and select "Flash Firmware Package".
Navigate to your file on your Internal Memory (provided you remember where it is. If not, a rage quit is an option, unless you remembered where you put that USB cable. Deernit!) and select it.
Select partitions: boot, system, data, and cache. Don't flash the stock recovery if you don't want it. If you'd like a clean TWRP install, go that route and select Recovery, then after the flash you'll enter the bootloader from ADB and flash TWRP the normal way.
Allow wiping of the cache, and select the option to inject su and SuperSU before the flash.
Double check your to-do list.
Flash!
Step 6
Okay, so if your tablet hasn't hit a brick wall after the reboot, you're good. I would advise flashing the latest version of TWRP to keep recovery stable. If you somehow don't boot, you probably wiped your data and did not install the default GApps provided by the firmware. A flash of nano OpenGApps 6.0.1 arm32 in TWRP will fix this.
Step 7
One of two things will happen here. You will either:
Weep uncontrollably and start again with Samsung Kies, then Samdroid Lollipop, then root, then...ugh...nevermind. Just talking about it makes me want to cry.
- OR -
You'll be on Marshmallow with SuperSU, without xposed, you can reflash TWRP and go mod-happy!
The Video
I made and edited a 7 minute video explaining most of what I have covered, and proof that the process works.

Questions:
Q: Why not Odin?
A: Because signature checks and no root injection.
Q: There's already a US OTA?
A: You can do this OTA, but then you get the locked Marshmallow bootloader. After flash and boot there's no way to get root this way on Android 6.0.1.
Q: I'm bootlooping. Haaaalp!
A: Samsung Kies. Go download it, and revert to US stock. Odin-flash Lollipop firmware, root, rinse, repeat.
Q: Does this trip the Knox counter?
A: Yes, unfortunetly.
Q: Does this void my warranty?
A: What warranty? This tablet came out 2 years ago. But, if you got it extended...yes...yes it does
Q: Are you a bad person?
A: Everyone can be a good person, if they just try.
Q: I love you.
A: <- The donate button is over there...somewhere.
Q: I hate you.
A: Thank you.
Conclusion
Smash the Thanks button if this helped. Enjoy your bloatware free, rooted Marshmallow tablets!
Thank you to chainfire for the toolz, shabbypenguin for picking up the phones no one wants to (Alcatel, ZTE, my eyes in your direction!), ashryx for the dev love, and apophis9283 for the inspiration.
The bootloader isn't locked so you can actually just flash twrp then supersu.
