[Q] PC not recognizing USB?

Anyone else having problems with your PC not recognizing the phone? Even after selecting mass storage in the usb settings, when i plug the phone in to the PC the little usb notification in the notification isn't showing up.

Have you installed the Samsung drivers?

yeah i've tried installing the drivers. the phone isn't even putting the usb icon in the notification tray anymore. just starts charging and that's it. i go to usb settings/mass storage and nothing. any ideas?

I got that too, I just put the usb cable in another usb port on my computer and tadaaaa: problem fixed

I had this issue and read in a forum (not sure where wish I did to give credit) where u need to format your internal SD memory (the built in 16 gig SD) I did that and it started to work again.

How about Menu > settings > applications > usb settings > ask on connection.....

I had/have this problem sometimes too. choosing "ask on connection" usually works. I find that if you select anything other than "mass storage" then exit out, then go back in and choose mass storage, it works again.
Usually only have to do it once after a factory reset or on a new phone

I find my connection to be hit or miss. The pc picks up the drivers fine but doesn't mount the phone as a drive. Kies is a pain to get going too. I read on here that you need .net framework 4 and also no file names over 16 characters, and without kies I think you need to be in debug mode on application settings. I still need to try the short file names and see if it improve it but I never really hook up to a pc anyway, my father has win 7 and I have kies on his computer. I have linux mint 9 on my own so I rarely get to fitz with it on a windows machine.

I'm having this problem, can't get usb debugging mode to turn off. It immediately turns on when I turn it off. It's as the just says, "yeah, you can uncheck it, but I'm gonna leave it on."

Nexus won't show on my computer when i plug it in

It was showing up fine, but when i rooted it, it wont show up anymore.

Have u checked Dev settings to see if USB debugging is checked?
If it is, plug the phone into ur PC, then turn off USB debugging, and turn it back on. Your phone should prompt you to enable connection to the PC. Check the box to accept and you should b goof to go. (That's what worked for me)

did u install the right drivers? its kinda picky on windows 8

nope, it is not showing nexus 6 on mtp, i can only access in camera mode.

I had this and it drove me crazy. My laptop was also playing up so in the end I re-installed Windows (8 Pro) on that which solved a host of things and now it sees my Nexus 6.

wow you did this really ? this is my office computer so i cannot risk it. I use airdroid work very good and fast

Go to Device Manager and check if you can change the Nexus from ADB drivers to MTP. If it doesn't show MTP driver as an option, I had to switch off USB Debugging under Developer Options for the Nexus before Windows gave the MTP options. Otherwise, I'd try installing one of those Universal Android Driver tools.

Connecting to a pc

I'm on the latest update (8.1.0 may security) and I'm trying to connect my 7 plus to my PC, but nothing happens. The PC doesn't install any drivers and my phone isn't showing up in devices. I'm not getting the notification I'm supposed to get on my phone either, the phone is charging though. I have tried to connect to different PC:s as well.
Does anyone else have this problem?

Have you enabled developer mode and set USB debugging to on? Otherwise drivers or not the PC will not communicate with the Nokia.

Yes, USB debugging is on. I have tried connecting without it aswell.

When the phone is plugged into PC make sure
that on the status bar it is not showing charging on USB but MTP (file transfer) other than that it must be driver related.

Well that's the problem I think, Im not even getting a notification in the status bar that im connected...

As Stransky said, did you enable File transfer or MTP from notification bar on the phone?
You won't get notifications on PC if USB is set for charging only.

As I said earlier, Im not getting a notification on my phone when plugging it in.

Exactly same problem here, my Nokia 7 Plus only says charching and I don't get a notifiaction. My PC also doesn't react.
Have you found any solution yet?

Unplug the cable. Enable developer options, then find "default USB configuration" and change it to mtp. Replug the cable

since it doesn't even recognize that the device was connected to the pc, it was a guess. you can also try to plug it into a different USB port. for me, it did recognize the connection itself but it did not install the MTP driver properly. i just manually installed it from here: c:\Windows\INF\wpdmtp.inf (right click and install)

Going to settings -> System -> about phone, and then find the 'Build number' option, several click it until system ask for password to enable developer mode. After done this, return to settings -> System, find the 'Developer options' and click it, and enable the 'USB debugging' option. Now using the command 'adb devices' will show our phones.

Well I had same issue with Nokia 6.1 plus running 8.1.0 but I was using 3rd party cable which din't support data transfer except charging phone. So I used OEM Foxconn original charging cable and it quickly detect my phone and installed driver itself. try changing cable and turn on USB Debugging if needed.

Try a different cable. I had the same issue now and the problem was the cable I was using wasn't fit for data transfer. When I tried a cable which came with the phone it worked.
With the old cable I tried all the suggestions and nothing worked. I would connect the phone to my PC and it would only charge but no option to choose USB mode (file transfer).
Tried another cable and the USB mode option came up straight away. Hope it helps someone

Show the folders by default after connecting USB

I have lineage 8.1 ROM (but this applies to other roms too). When I connect USB to the phone, the folders won't appear instantly. First I have to pull down status bar, then click on "Android System - USB charging device", then I must click there again because it says "Tap for more options", then I select "Transfer files" in the next window. So connecting the phone to the computer needs 4 extra touches on the phone, which is very annoying. With my 7 year old Galaxy S2, if I connect it to the computer, the storage will appear instantly, I don't have to set anything. Is there any solution to show the folders by default after connecting USB in Nexus 6?

i don't think it is a problem. stating with marshmallow (android 6) and windows computer you have to pull down quick menu and allow file transfer. one extra step. i think lineage os added those extra steps.
also your galaxy could be on older version of android.

On my Nexus 6 running ABC ROM I can change that by going to Settings --> System --> Developer Options --> Select USB Configuration and selecting "MTP (Media Transfer Protocol)" but it seems to revert back to "Charging" frequently.

Pixel 4xl can not transfer files to pc

When i connect 4xl with my pc (win10)does not makes me available the option to see the folder of pixel in order to drag and drop music or videos.I search every option but nothing...I did not have any problem like this with op7t or note 10 plus...Do you have any idea?Thank you

What type of cable are you using? USB A to USB C works best.
Has it ever recognized your phone? Normally your pc will install the proper drivers on it's own. If not, you may have to download them yourself.

I use oem cable c to c!My pc when i connect it makes the sound and it recognises pixel 4 xl the problem is tha never appear pixel 4 folder in windows search.

Do you have the drop down notification that allows you to change to data transfer?
And, I still would try a USB A to USB C cable.

Do you have a USB A port on your pc? If so, try the cable suggestion. The OEM cable is not that great with data transfer on the pixel line.

I have the same problem.
Could you fix it?
