I love my Mi 11 Ultra. It's a fantastic device and the rear screen adds a fun element to a seriously, beastly phone — but I found it ridiculous that Xiaomi completely cut off access to any other apps besides their own when it comes to allowing notifications on the rear screen. No more! With some inspiration from GuyWithRootedPhone and his Mirror2RearUltra app, I created my own app that allows you to select any app on your Mi 11 Ultra to send notifications to the rear screen.

Update 3.6: Android 13
Hey everyone! I apologize for the delay in updates, but I've been running another ROM and just busy with life. I came back to the newest version of MIUI to find the app wasn't starting the service and investigated. Many of you may have had the issue of the service never seeming to start. The issue stems from Android 13 automatically denying the posting of app notifications without explicit user consent. Being able to show a notification for the service is vital for Rear Notifier's function. To remedy this issue, I've added an additional required prompt to use the app so there's no confusion. From my testing thus far, everything seems to be working as expected.
The update is under review to the Play Store as I type (6/14/23 1:38 PM UTC).
Thanks for your patience!
Bugs squashed:
• Android 13 notification issue resolved (service will start now)
• Fixed issue with GIFs where setting the speed didn't affect the rear screen GIF's speed
• Optimizations and improvements
Bugs/Concerns
• Whenever a notification is sent to the rear screen from this app, it will cause the default clock to disappear until the native rear display apk chooses to refresh itself. At the moment, there's no way that I'm aware of to bring back the native clock on-demand, but that's what my own implementation of the clock is for
Developed and Tested on:
Device: Xiaomi Mi 11 Ultra (Obviously)
ROM: Xiaomi.EU 14.09.0 Stable
Android Version: 13
MIUI Only!

Feel free to send me any ideas or issues you have on different MIUI versions and I hope all my fellow Mi 11 Ultra brethren enjoy!

Future Ideas:
Since the default clock is super buggy when using this app, I was thinking about adding my own customizable clock feature in the app, but I have a lot going on right now
so that isn't feasable at the moment. When I have time, I will most likely add it to the app in the future.

That's strange...it supports Android 12 and up and I double checked to make sure it was allowed in the Play store (of course it was). Also, I uninstalled my dev copy just to see what the Play store said and it allowed me to download it.
I'll attach the latest version that I just sent for review on the Play store minutes ago.
When you install it, and Xiaomi comes up with the "App from an unknown source", make sure to toggle on all the toggles to make it everything works properly.

In order to use the app, make sure you click the 'Start' button at the top right. You should then see a persistant notification in your notification shade. Clicking that starts the notification listening service. If you don't start the service, the app is useless. That's what the message means Try that.

@Chr0m3Chaos enabled all permissions and selected Whatsapp & Messages ....but still the "services" fail to start on MIUI 14 error: please start notifications services first and the "START button" beside APPS circles endlessly. Tried rebooting but still doesn't seem to work for me.

First: Great idea, i'm waiting for long for some app like these. The crappy rear screen for me never never showas any notification from apps and timeout didn't work at all.
But second: I managed to start the service and send a test notification, but didn't get some messages from apps. But i couldn't set some apps as apps list is empty, it says fetching apps and then nothing. If i type in search field (say i type telegr..), i can see app field for a very little moment and it disappears. And (but sure, thats what you stated above) the rear clock is gone till i disable and enable it in settings.
So again, great idea and great app, but seems it needs some fixing (and own clock would be great as my timer doesn't work and sometimes clock stays forever using battery ;-) )
I'm on latest xiaomi.eu weekly (A13), so maybe thats the problem yet...
Many thx for developing this app, looks promising

Dang that's a weird one. If only MIUI wasn't so flakey with literally everything. I've had multiple people saying it worked great on the newest MIUI releases and a few where it's completely random bugs like that. Not sure what to say without logs though.
As for the clock — I have actually just coded a working implementation of the clock that has the same look and layout w/ the color gradients completely customizable along with a mostly-working weather screen. This will be in a vertical view pager implementation for easy access. I attached a mockup of how those will both look for most part.
I still need to code the UI for customizing the clock and weather though. Expect to see an update in the play store in a few days

Description:
LED Flashlight is a simple and free flashlight app. It uses the LED light on your phone as a light source (the light used by the camera when taking photos).
Unlike some other flashlight apps that just show a white screen, LED Flashlight can give you a much brighter light.
Even if LED Flashlight is a very simple app, I took my time to polish it and make it the best in the marketplace. I included some special features, most of them not available in other flashlight apps:
Shake to toggle - you can shake the phone to toggle the flashlight
Camera button to toggle - you can use the camera shutter button to toggle the flashlight
Disable lock screen - you can disable the lock screen so that the light does not turn off by itself
Constant light - the LED light does not flicker like some other flashlight apps
Please note that this app will not work on devices with xenon flash or devices that do not have a flash at all.
User reactions.
Some people complain that this app does not work on HTC Mozart. Yes, it does not, because this phone has a xenon flash. Sorry, but there is no way to make a xenon flash light up constantly. I don't have such a phone but I think even the built-in camera app cannot do that.
Version history:
Version 1.1
[New] Flashlight toggle sound introduced.
[New] More settings added and "settings" menu improved.
[Changed] "Prevent lock screen" is now enabled by default.
[Improved] Shake sensitivity adjusted to a more appropriate level.
[Fixed] Crash on some devices when no internet connection is available.
[Fixed] Minor UI fixes.
Version 1.2
[NEW] Live tile settings introduced.
[Improved] Minor UI improvements.
Discussions.
I welcome any feature requests, bug reports or just random thoughts.
Thank you and take care.

As written in description, this app does not work on HTC Mozart. It is not possible to have a flashlight on this phone because it has a xenon flash, not a LED one. I doubt you will find any flashlight app for your phone.
Sorry.

An explanation of the required permissions:
contacts - not really used but is wrongly detected by the Marketplace
camera, microphone, music and video library - those are needed by the flashlight itself, I doubt you will find a flashlight app that does not require those. This is because the constant ON mode for the LED is part of the video functionality. And video = camera + microphone + video library.
movement and directional sensor - this is needed to enable the "shake to toggle" feature. You can switch the flashlight by shaking your phone. This is done using the accelerometer sensor.
data services, phone identity, owner identity - needed for ads. Any ad-enabled app will have those.
If you have some concerns let me know. There is certainly nothing harmful in all those permissions.

Mate, your explanation of the required permissions is totally misleading.
"Because this app is full of ads": The app has a single ad at the bottom of the screen, clearly seen in the screenshots. Yes, this ad could come either from Microsoft, from AdMob or AdDuplex. Who cares about where it comes from?
If you are a developer, which I presume, you should know how ads work. You request an ad and the ads provider either gives you one or fails. If it fails you ask the next provider to give you an ad. This is common sense. Any sensibly written ad-enabled app does it like this.
Even if only one of those ad providers was used, the same permissions would have been required.
"author added all existing advertising solutions for WP7" - you make it sound like a bad thing. Can you please explain what's wrong with that?

Yep, I can try. It's definitely not good: adding more third-party code (what uses internet connection and contains a bugs) is directly affecting to your app performance and stability. Second, using a bunch of different ads providers will not increase your ad unit performance (likely to vise versa). Try to find my topic at Q&A about ads. And third: there are about hundred flashlight apps on market (with similar functionality) and your app must compete with them. Having so many required permissions for that simple app will hardly contribute to this.
BTW, it's just my personal opinion, all up to you (however I'm also not 100% sure - should re-read Microsoft and Google service agreements).

You obviously tried the app. Have you noticed any unstable behavior or performance problems? If yes, please let me know. No one has reported anything like that. While your statement has truth in it, everything depends on the developer taking care of all exceptional situations and handling them properly.

I could argue with that, but in any way this only concerns me as a developer and not poeple who use my app. Developer feedback is always appreciated, but please don't make it sound something bad for all those who just want to light up their way. I will try to find your Q&A thread, a link would be nice.

True, many flashlight apps out there. I have written in my first post how my app differs and what is better. I just checked the two most popular flashlight apps in my marketplace, they require the same permissions, except the "movement and directional sensor". They do not need it because they do not have the "shake to toggle" feature. As I wrote this is unique for my app(well, I haven't checked them all, but still).
Thanks for your opinion.
No, I didn't tried your app yet: just downloaded and looked what's inside. I'm still using my old LED flashlight written about year ago, and it uses two caps only: ID_CAP_MICROPHONE & ID_CAP_CAMERA, and has only 10 Kb size It based on Dave Amenta's code (like all of that kind apps) with a little add-on. If you interested, you may try to search XDA for my or Dave's post about year ago.
As I said before, it's just my personal opinion, not a criticism or app review (if you going to publish something on the public forums, you should be prepared for the different opinions).
First of all thanks for this app! Ive used a bunch of them at really like this one.

So in the other thread someone was saying how TiBu was requesting root over and over. I've actually seen the same issue since 2.5.4. It appears Superuser isn't remembering who it gave access to. Just to prove it I downloaded easy root checker. Clicked Verify root. Superuser prompted for permission on behalf of root checker (and I left remember this app checked) and I clicked ok. I clicked verify root again and it prompted again. Previous to 2.5.4 it seemed like superuser wasn't in use, and Permission Manager was the default root management on MIUI. Permission Manager requests root upon every reboot, and with the manage root option selected doesn't manage root. If you'd like any other information just lemme know (I feel bad just asking seeing as I'm a developer, but have zero experience in the Android ROM world and don't know where to start)
Edit:
Forgot to mention I've done no wipe, full wipe, Aroma, and Standard and I'm still seeing the issue. I'm going to try switching ROMs and switching back now to see what happens.
I use the standard version, and got the Super User permission loop error. I tried open Titanium Backup Pro and was promted to allow/deny the request. However I decide, it just keep pop up asking, and only stop when I FC the app. When I check the Super User permission, it have like 10 entries of the same app.
That's the 1st impression for 5 min with the new build
Th3bill, I would do a log of the wifi error but I already went back to my cm7 rc1. What do I do to log so next time I test, I can do it for you guys?

I just noticed that myself. I'm working on some stuff for Kitchen Sink, then I will devote some time to this issue. It seems like the permission gets granted for the given session, then forgets. I even checked the log within the superuser apk, and it shows it requesting my permission and granting root explorer permission the 6 times I just did...LOL
Don't feel bad making a recommendation. That's how I got to doing what I am now. 3 months ago, I didn't know any of this, so ya never know...maybe you'll be dev-ing before you know it I am open to any and all RESPECTFUL comments or concerns. That is my one requirement...
Do themes fully work on this one? I remember the past version didn't.
Your work is brilliant and the ROM is amazing, but here are some issues i found, which you could add to the 'not working' in the first post.
-The fingerprint sensor doesn't work (no surprise)
-The camera force closes when switching to the camera to the front and back (but when you open the camera app again, it has changed the camera to the front/back)

SOME of the themes work. There are very few FULLY functioning V4 themes at this time. 2 were posted on the old thread. If you look there, you can see them

I have the build redone and will be re-upping it tonight. For now, these 2 fixes should correct the issues
here's one fully functional theme that im using http://miuiandroid.com/community/th...01-for-miui-ics-builds-update-02-05-12.16417/
For some reason memory card access on PC won't work?
Also overall the rom feels quite laggy, though I know it's supposed to be as smooth as butter. Help anybody?

Starting from the development ROM version 6.1.14, the official phone BootLoader has encryption that would have BootLoader lock. But, this ROM doesnot contain BL lock

Thanks for the reply and the ROM but i'm having some problems:
1. No key board, only speech to text
2. Only Chinese and English
3.A lot of Chinese bloatware
Please help
Thanks for this ROM. I installed it today so I haven't got much to say but here's a small review (kinda):
1. Firstly I tried to install micro Gapps but there were no normal keyboard, there was only option - speech recognition so I downloaded AROMA installer and configured Gapps as I like: surely I installed Google keyboard so I could proceed and also changed some stock apps to google apps (camera, dialer, gallery, google pixel launcher). PS. ROM has only english and chinese langs.
2. As always, google play services app crashes until all permissions are given to it.
3. There are some chinese apps that can't be uninstalled by default app manager but they can be easily disabled.
4. ROM has been quite stable for the day duration, location and GPS are working.
5. What's not working for me (might be different from others because of Gappse I installed): live lock screen, clean notifications/recent apps by shaking features, accidental wake-up prevention, also there are some rows with @ and numbers after it which lead to settings app crash. Added: Facebook messenger constantly crashes, APN settings hang.
In total, ROM is stable and fast, definetely a daily driver. Would be nice to have some fixes and it would be a really great ROM! Also I can provide screenshots if needed.
Would be great to know if root is avalaible and how the battery life is. Thx

This ROM is rooted, root menu is available from developer options menu. Battery life depends on profile that is used (from battery saving mode to performance) but if balanced mode is considered, I would say battery life is just a little bit lesser that in MIUI.

Keyboard, install a google keyboard or any keyboard from Play Store. Else, download APK in PC, transfer to the device and install.
Languages - not aware. Probably, removed.
Bloatware - was not expected. But, it was unofficial CM version from Chinese devs, so - it has come in.

APN issue. After entering APNs menu it just hangs and after short period of time crashes and phone reenables SIM cards.
Issue with @random_numbers tapping which leads to Settings crash.
It's very dissapointing for me that I can't add an APN since I have to configure it manually. I haven't tried navigation in google maps yet but I bet they're allright. Will find it out tomorrow.
Unfortunately, navigation didn't work or me. All permissions are given to the app but navigation won't start. Switching to AOSP 7.0 for now, not because of navigation but because of APN issue.

Used to be a known issue with the 7.0 AOSP version. It is fixed in 7.0 AOSP, not sure if it will ever be fixed here in CM13.
Now, I bought the device on the sale date ie. 30th April and the phone got delievered just the next day. I'm running on the Android 8.1 update with April Security patch as of writing this. From the start I've noticed some issues and lags here and there. They are as follows:
Swiping left on the launcher to get to the Google Now page (the default launcher that is the Launcher 3) and also on the Pixel Launcher 3 is very jittery and you can feel and see the lag.
The keyboard (Gboard) is also not that fluid and very very rarely it misses out on some letters of the words that I'm typing.
In Instagram, swiping for story is again very jittery.
The whole Snapchat app is super jittery.
Considering that this is an Android One device and running on Higher Mid-Range Processor ie. Snap 660, this is not expected in any way.
Camera is fine for me and some have also complained about the Bluetooth which I have not yet tested. Audio quality through the speakers and also through the headphone jack is superb. Battery is also very good. Getting 7+ hrs of Screen on time in a day's usage and around 5.5-6.5 in two day's usage. Also Google camera is working fine just download and install Gcam Tool app from the PlayStore so as to transfer and save the photos directly in the default Camera folder only.
Please let me know if you also are having the same issues and if there's any fix for them. I think Nokia will have to only push out an update to improve the overall optimization of the device.

Yeah. That's clearly optimization issues. Everyone's talking about these stutters and lags. Do tell about these stutters and lags to Nokia customer care so that they can fix them in next update. I am particularly worried about the audio quality through the headphone jack. Will get my device tomorrow.

Also, which was your last phone? If it was a very powerful mobile then maybe your expectations are too high. It happened to my friend ( moved from iPhone to S7 and was pissed).
2. Could anyone tell me if using Google camera is safe and how to get it. I don't wanna root though.

Google cam doesn't need root. There are many versions on the net. There's also a thread about the Google cam.

I remember reading in Pixel Launcher thread that recent changes in google app is causing inconsistent performance in launchers. I think we have to wait till google fix it or some workaround.
Apart from that I have not noticed other above mentioned issues in my device, so can't comment.
One issue that I am annoyed with is Headset Inline Controls not working while phone being locked. I am using PowerAmp and in-built settings are set correctly. I was not facing this issue on my previous device, so this seems to be device related issue.
If anybody knows any workaround please comment.
Stock android shoulnot have any sort of oprtimisation for any app ,, in contrast App shold be optimised for this . U cant see lag and stutter in most of G -APPS but hangout will stutter a lot. I have seen lag in my OP3T with sd 821 ,,, so

You should have received an update the moment you connected the phone to internet.
Stock android doesn't support system wide dark theme that can be turned on or off manually.
You can always use a 3rd party launcher. [emoji16]

I guess the phone needs time to settle down because we immediately load apps and every app instantly starts taking up ram. After sometime, the android system starts managing the system as to which apps need to be in background and which apps need to be killed based on our usage.
Also, initially the apps have to build up cache and that adds to lags.
I am using stock Android from an OEM for the first time and I am amazed with the smoothness of the UI. It just flows. Also, the vibration on this device is better than any other device I have used.
Also, regarding sound quality through jack, I don't know why people are bashing it. Probably, they don't know that the phone has an equalizer too which is turned off by default.

Hey man! My unit doesn't exhibit any lag but i can't find face unlock and the option to remove onscreen buttons. Do you have them in your unit?

Used audio through a Bluetooth device (car Bluetooth) and of works just fine. Informing because I had read online on some other forums about the audio coming out through Bluetooth connection is breaking or muffled. But, on my device it is absolutely fine.

Similar to this or a shine effect only around camera or tens of other styles can be used to indicate an event such as charging, music playing or a notification to help you to know even who texted you just by a glance far from your phone.
some of you may know this app before and some may had struggled with it in its bad moment with a broken version but it did not stop improving and all got fixed and many more feature added.
Because this app has tons of options to customize your phone, even wallpapers, I will start by writing instructions for how to enable the basic options of the feature which this thread is about:
How To:
1- Search google play "AOE" or "Always On Edge" and install this ~6MB App
2- Enter section #1 "Main Settings"
choose if you want the LED effect to be shown within System Ambient Display or a separated screen
3- enable accessibility services and give required permissions
4- Go back and enter section #2 "App settings"
for when to light choose "when a notification comes" and/or charging lighting as you like
5- scroll to bottom and save.
6- Enter enabled apps section and make sure the app you will test with is enabled
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.used.aoe
Please give the app some time only once and then you will not need to even open it:
After testing please discover all sections the app can do what ever you need for such feature
like at the same place of step 4 you can enable Mixer which show all current notifications colors
and Reminder which repeat lighting every X seconds and let other options you may like.
in lighting settings section you can customize the general style of lighting.
the app is indeed complicated due to variety of options and I'm always working on improving it.
Battery Drain:
I use it personally for notifications only, all apps, while screen is on and off, reminder for 5 seconds every 5 seconds limited to 30 repeat and I got 100s of emails and messages and the app is not even on system battery use list. but in general this app can be used with no noticeable difference in battery usage and it can drain your battery in few hours. it depends on the options you choose, there are a lot of options to minimize battery consuming it basically depends on lighting time and enabled widgets.
in worst cases there is options to prevent the app from working if device is not charging and other 10s of options so you can set when the app should not light as when the app should light.
App brief description:
AOE contain a lot of features and options and all can be customized as you like, here is some of the main features:
Edge lighting can also be customized for charging, music, wallpaper and many other events
It can be customized to work in a highly flexible way with AOD clock or independently, or even both like Tap to Light feature.
Lighting can be around all screen or around front camera or both with many other lighting place options like LED style with variety of animations.
You can use it to show lighting effects for many events like notifications including missed calls of course, charging, fully charged, screen lock, screen unlock, headset plugged, listening to music ,
ongoing or outgoing calls, recent apps menu and flash after unlock.
You can customize lighting color, style, effect and place for each event, each app, each contact name or even each chat group.
Notifications light has more useful additional features like Reminder which the lighting will be repeated every period you choose and you can even choose to make a sound alert for notification reminder,
and Mixer which will iterate through all current notifications colors..
Brightness can be adjusted regardless of the lighting is independent or with Always On Display, on top of that you can set high brightness for lights and low brighting for AOD/clock widgets.
It has many options to restrict its job like prevent the app from lighting if device is charging, not charging, not in landscape mode, low battery, sleep time or to follow Do Not Disturb mode.
with a block list to prevent it from working for someone
AOE also support lighting in all screen states, turned off or turned on, horizontal or vertical.

I just tested out this app. When I get a notification the edge lighting shows up but it results in my fingerprint sensor not working when the notification light is going.

If you set lighting method with Ambient display or if you do not like the clock set it with Ambient display invisible then the app will function better generally and this will be solved.

For independent lightinh I'm not sure about this phone but on most phones it is just about touching the right place and it will be helpful to enable app settings -> how to close -> fingerprint icon to guide you where to touch. I tested this on samsung and xiaomi a single touch is enough to unlock as quick as if this app is not installed I hope you give it a try

If you mean showing notification title as a small text next to camera there is an app called super status bar it was made for this with detailed options
Lighting for calls already exist in app settings section -> when to light. it will light when making or receiving a phone call
