I'm trying to add an app to be exempted from cache clearing because it deletes my data when I try to clear cache using the cleaner. Problem is, there is no button to add exceptions.
Edit: for some reason, the video won't be uploaded.
Here's my reddit post containing video for context. I tried asking there but the answers didn't help.

I use SD Maid pro... gets stuff others miss and never has caused critical data lose or file damage.

I'm trying to figure out why my phone is so low on space. I hardly have any apps installed, but it still says I have about 6MB free. Some of the apps have downloaded extra things they need to run (like this translator app), but all of that is stored on the SD card to my knowledge.
What is the fastest way, short of naming off every app I have to you guys, that I can figure out what files or files are taking up so much space on my phone?
go to settings, applications, manage applications ..there hit menu and sort by size .. you might find out that your browser and market cache are huge. select them and hit clear cache

yea the cache for many apps can do that to you
simplest way to avoid that is by moving cache to the sd card (just search for a guide, there are many )
Well surprisingly, no cache was that big (just a couple of megs). I can't really figure out what's so big on this thing.

do you use the google maps a lot? When you organized it by size were there many apps over a meg?
Root your phone and use Apps2SD and stop worrying about the lack of space.
Have you used any kind of program to backup your apps before a flash? The only way I know of fixing it is to get into recovery and do a FRESH wipe and fresh reinstall, then manualy add all your apps back. Should clear things up.
Hi for a while now the gallery app seems to show me duplicate images of up to 5 of the same image.
this happens to only a few folders but is rather annoying to have to scroll through 5times the amount of pictures to get to the one i want.
does anyone know how to fix this? or even what the problem is?
atm using Doc rom JPO v7.5 on i9000 no lagfix, hardcore's speedmod kernel with tweaks on, no BLN.
go gallery, select all and delete them. then re-import your pictures. easiest to get around. probably some thumbnails cache that screwed up.
yeah i'll give that a try, thanks
This has been happning quite often on my phone, what I do is just delete the image cache on the andriod folder and stop the gallery application and use clear data and lastly clear the data on media provider and reboot, 100x faster than moving over thousands of pics.
I've been having this bug ever since going to froyo, am currently on JPO.
I have my camera set to store photos on the external SD, the camera folder for the ext sd card in the gallery app just keeps duplicating photos in that folder.
So I may have 100 odd photos but after a while ill end up with 6 copies of each..
Such a nasty bug... its really annoying to have to scroll through so many duplicates to view the latest photos you took with the camera
Just noticed you are on docs rom too, so am i... and thats when i started having this bug...
is it happening with only one folder for you?
Same problem here... Currenty using Doc's v9 but issue existed on v8.
I have up to 16 copies of each (!) photo in my gallery.
Clearing thumbnails and application cache solves the problem but only until the next reboot.
Could this be a filesystem bug?
Edit:
Tried without lagfix, but issue still exists.
For some reason deleting .thumbnails en clearing cache doesn't work anymore. :-(

this actually worked for me!
Now let's see how it long takes for it to happen again.

Yeah, got same problem on JPM9 with speedmod kernel k9a.
Just tried suggested fix:
- delete all .thumbnail folders in image folders on both SD cards,
- stop gallery and media storage apps, then clear cache.
Seems to work fine now.
@Warrior_ZA:
Did you update your speedmod kernel from a version 8 or less? There was a bug serious filesystem bug in that kernel that might explain the problem.
i've noticed that this occurs a lot of the time when i accidently pull out the usb cable without safely removing the usb from the computer.
Adevem is right, something is wrong with the cache system.
The method i used to fix it was to just delete the whole folder and reimport the images again as suggested by Earlz.
however i think you can get away without deleting images if you delete the thumbnails in the android > com.android.providers.media > albumthumbs
i did it and it worked, so maybe you guys would like to give that a go.
hope it helps
the simplest i've found is to delete "Android" in /sdcard
settings > apps > all > media storage/content - fc and clear cache and data
reboot, wait for mediascanning and you're good!
I have determined that a lot of my low space issues in the data/data folder are from nearly 120MB of 'system data'. I was confused but willing to work around it since system data is usually pretty important.
However, I recently set up my wife's cappy just like mine (same ROM, Kernel, Modem) and she only has 8MB of system data in her data/data folder
So, now I'm looking to understand what system data goes into that folder. I know I could do a complete clean install to figure parts of it out, but if there is an answer out there it would be much easier than the pain of a clean install.
I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe all of your application data (cache & user data, but not the applications themselves) lives in there. If you go through your application list and clear the caches, or use a cache cleaner from the market, you should be able to free up much of that space.
The nice thing about the cache cleaners from the market is that they will sort by cache size so you can see which programs hoard cache space (*coughFacebookcough*)
I've thought of that, and 1 Tap Cleaner only shows 1MB in cache. In fact, since I haven't been using a lot of my apps while figuring this out, nearly all of them are 0 cache.
Is there something that 1 tap cleaner is missing?
Cache is the easiest way to free up space, but I believe all of your user data, databases, etc. live in there as well. If you move some apps to the SD card, I think it takes the user data with it which should free up some space.
You could also go through and clear the user data from apps that have big databases (like Facebook), but this will clear all of your settings and account info. Once you start using it again, this is obviously going to start filling up again but I find it a bit hard to believe that my username, password, and settings really need to occupy the 3.06mb that it's currently taking up on my phone. It must be accumulating crap somewhere along the way.
I've moved some apps to SD w/o really affecting the amount stored there. I have also cleared some data which did help, but doesn't affect the system data.
That's the strangest part. The system data seems to be ~120MB no matter what I do. From all I can find, I only have approx 35MB of actual application user data... the rest is listed as system data, which I can't break down any further.
I've heard of the contacts storage going haywire and taking up space. Have you tried checking and/or clearing that one? Obviously you'll lose anything you don't have backed up with Google.
If that doesn't help, I'm out of ideas short of wiping all of your data and starting over.
Huh... I'll check into the contacts one. I'll report back here with what I find.
Thanks!
Darnit... only 4MB was in contact storage... and it didn't seem to affect my system data.
I guess I'll start preparing to start over. I think I may have done a backup after i fresh installed everything... perhaps I could reinstall that and see what things looked like!
Thunderbolt adds a sqlite_optimize script which defrags databases. That may help reduce the size.
Any time I use Titanium Backup to restore my apps, I do it in chucks and never restore system data since I'm always changing ROMs. For chunks I mean restore apps+data only for apps that need it, then restore apps without for all the rest. Any apps which I don't run never save any data so it saves space.
I have the 8 GB model and over the past couple months it has really started to slow down. Everything from opening apps to changing the screen orientation to unlocking the device was really slow. It was nothing like the buttery smoothness I enjoyed when I first received the device. I recently fixed my lag by clearing the cache using a program called Clean Master. The steps I took are as follows:
1) Download and Install Clean Master from the market
2) When you open the app, there will be 4 choices. Select History
3) Give the app some time to calculate all the cache being used. When it finishes, make sure System Cache is checked and then click the clean button on the bottom.
That's it. After I did that I noticed a dramatic improvement in the tablet's responsiveness. I know that you can also clear your cache out in Settings > Storage > Cached Data. That may or may not do the same thing, but for me I used Clean Master and it worked.
I did a search and couldn't find this posted so I wanted to share it in hopes of helping others out. So for those of you with lag, give this a shot and let me know if it helps you out. If it does, maybe we can discuss why this works and what the root cause of the problem is in the first place.
u dont need to install 3rd party cache cleaner in android now (ICS and JB)
go to settings>Storage>cached data
click on it and clean it.
and please this is well known method so please use search before starting a new thread.

I have noticed that I have folder when cleaning cache by clean master with name Moment.me. I did run a full system scan using CM Security and nothing was found.
To explain this matter more in detail. When I open my bank app somewhat is creating an folder in emulated storage by name imagecache. Then when I scan cache using clean master, clean master is telling me that that folder is from uninstalled app from moment.me which I never had anyway. And this is only when I access my bank app. It's like it some kind of logger or trying to be a logger, by either keylogging or image capture cache something like that. I searched all Google to see what comes when typing Moment.me. Can somebody tell me what this is. It doesn't feel good knowing this. Second isn't uninstalled app being deleted from Android all the way. How can there be a left over and if no app. Who creates image cache folder? Which app does that when accessing bank app. And that antivirus doesn't recognize this stuff but recognize which app did that which was never installed in first place. Tell me what you know. Tnx
P.s I'm using stock lg l90 never rooted. Its on KitKat 4.4.2 have no shady app installed on my phone except that I tried yesterday opera max, some onvo data limiter not sure about exactly onvo but something like that and some other data limiter software. I think its with first in search. Blue icon. Please help
