I am new here and to SmartPhones. I like Captivate because it has low radiation.
I am impressed with the activities I see here and on CyanogenMod. However, these give me cause for concern regarding the energy level required to accomplish them. Linux is good but I am returning to graduate school in the fall so I am concerned regarding the requirement of these phones and OS's. I would appreciate it if some of you could explain why so much work occurs with Android. Is much of this activity born out of the decision of carriers to control OS releases to specific phones? I see this as a major factor presently.
With that said, it does appear Samsung blew it with regard to v2.2 and the Galaxy S phones. I am nearly embarrassed to inform you that I own two Samsung LCD monitors after learning of this negative experience.
Clearly, I void the warranty if I embrace the activities here but this just rationalizes the choice of a refurbished phone!

However, I also know my limited perspective can be biasing reality with this OS and these SmartPhones unnecessarily negative.
Oddly, my wife is considering the Focus because it would give her the MS support she needs with work. Regardless, it does appear we have found a few excellent Internet resources for these choices...I just want to ensure I am not getting in over my head.

To answer your question - why so much work occurs with Android, I would like to take the liberty of rephrasing the question - why so much work occurs with Android phones? There isnt one correct answer for this.
You are correct in saying that carriers and service providers like to cripple the phone before they hand it over to the consumer. So when you buy the phone you really are not using these wonderful pieces of technology to their fullest extent. Thanks to our developers here at XDA because of whom we can in reality free the phones that we paid much moolah for, so that we maybe able to use all of the fones features that have been designed to work in conjunction with the wonderful Android OS.
Secondly, the reason why so much work goes into the phones and development to improve the functionality of the phone is because that is what Android has been designed for. Consumer can customize the phone to their liking and does not have to get stuck with the proprietary, grid like systems like the ones iphone has. Phone manufacturers, and not just Samsung, obviously design the phones software in such a way so that there is always room for improvement. They bet their dollar on the fact that an average consumer will eventually buy a newer product when its released and marketed in the future. There is always something lacking in the product that is in the market right now and that is where all this work comes into play.
Now, whether you shud buy a samsung captivate or not and what the time requirement is, is totally dependent on what you want to use the phone for and what kind of functionality you would like to get out of it.
From what you said that ur not a person who wud like to spend a lot of time modifying or playing around with your phone, you wud still like the captivate. Samsung Captivate is a very nice phone overall. Its got almost everything that you cud want in a phone. In regards to apps included with the phone, you've got a decent selection along with loads of bloatware.... If there is anything missing you can easily find it on the android market.
If you're expecting that your GPS would work right out of the box, then the answer is, maybe - maybe not. and its not android's fault, its a samsung issue. There are multiple fixes for the GPS that you can find on the forum, that being said, if you plan on utilizing those fixes, like you said not only will you void your warranty but you alone will be venturing into that experiment on your phone and dev will not be responsible for any damage that may or may not happen to your phone. But then again no guts, no glory.
So all in all, if you do end up getting the captivate, i dont think you'll be utterly disappointed, but at the same time i dont think you'll be able to sit back either when you see all these new developments posted here.

I welcome any senior member of the forum to correct me if im wrong and/or make any additions to what ive said above..

My brother has a Samsung focus. It's buggy as hell, completely counter intuitive, and incomplete. Theres also no apps at all. He has like 3 different crappy youtube apps and sound boards.
And there's no CM7 to one day fix it.

ok lets slow you down there. first android is linux BASED not linux. there is no need to worry about OS/ device compatibility. the most interaction between the phone and PC are just file copying like through a usb thumb drive.
the next part regarding carriers/updates/samsung. you answered yourself, kinda, and backwards. Samsung didnt blow it.
Google android updates as much as any software does - to make things better.
they release to manufacturers so they can make it work with their hardware.
Samsung released on time, BUT TO THE CARRIERS.
the carriers then take what samsung gave them and add their carrier specific settings (APN ect) and applications (bloatware).
ATT blew the update timeline.
Sometimes manufacturers release their finished product as "source code" untouched by carriers.
the long process is necessary in each step to (attempt) to make a perfect software package that will work with each phone/carrier out of the box for the end user. so it is unfair to say "born out of the decision of carriers to control OS releases to specific phones"
XDA works off of source codes and carrier releases to make our custom updates.

there are ways to return your phone without them knowing what you did. dont worry too much about your "voided" warranty.
before i felt comfortable flashing I took about 3 days reading my A$$ off! and currently im off on workers comp. so that was 3 FULL days. even then i had issues and mistakes and my phone was out of service a few nights! but that is part of the fun.
you do not need to be the type of person to constantly update your phone to buy it. tens of thousands of people have this phone on stock firmware and it fully works. the extra effort and time that we here at XDA and cyanogenMOD do is more out of fun, and customization. Many would argue function as well, as we do sometimes fix things *better* than google/samsung/carriers. but things willl *usually* still function on stock even if on a basic level.
you only need to put in as much as you want to get out of it
so timeline,
flashing custom roms/themes PROPERLY - under a week
cutting and pasting roms frankenROMS - under a month or 2
creating - vast back knowlege of programming, ect YEAR(S)
regarding wanting to update often, not every update on XDA to your rom is necessary unles it fixes something you didnt have.
Each Android/Carrier update, would be recomended (or the XDA counterpart) as each new android version (not rom) contains the most updates/fixes. so if you were running a 2.2 (custom or stock) rom it WOULD be worth upgrading to 2.3 when available (custom or stock). but you dont NEED to update your custom rom every couple weeks when they put out their minor update on the same base rom (2.2 for eg.)

My concern is now recognized (and conveyed to others...) as not wanting to be required to become a developer to make my involvement with a SmartPhone constructive. Samsung, Android, XDA looks very good to me. As you mentioned, my reading has begun.

I am a big Fan of Intel and love the fact that I can now get an Intel phone.
Till now i have held off buying one because the one before Motorola X890 was the Orange San something phone, which was un-unlockable, un-rootable etc.
Currently the community for Moto X890 is small, not many developers to bring custom roms or to give a lot of support.
So I am still a little concirned, if i get the x890 is it easy to root?
is the "ARM app translator" good enough to give good performance?
Is it easily un lockable?
Do you think its a phone for just early adopters, until newer models come out which maybe more popular and have a bigger community?

You exactly pointed out the arguments for my decision not to buy this phone.
What I like:
- the size (best fit of screen size compared to overall size)
- very good looking
- not a plastic toy
- battery capacity
- speed
What I dislike:
- no gyroscope
- no glonass support
- screen appears sometimes blurry
What I'm afraid of:
- according to experience long time to get next 4.1 update (4.2 ?) from manufacturer
- small community for custom develepment
I would say for people who simply use their phone, the razr i is a very good choice. For people like me, who want to play around with customs roms and functionality, it's probably not the best choice. Therefore I decided for me, not to go with Motorola.

I've bought RAZRI recently. As every device it has pros and cons. In my opinion main pros are:
- fast processor which delivers smooth experience especially regarding everyday use,
- S-AMOLED screen useful enough even in bright environment with reasonable energy consuption,
- 2Ah battery which serve well the purpose and enable 2 days of average use,
- rough construction with last Gorilla Glass technology,
- Motorola's HW reflected its long experience period and great position in the industry,
- superb picture and voice in all applications,
- limited bloatware preinstalled,
- price considering that RAZRI is in fact hi level phone with some limitations as:
- Motorola offers possibility to unlock RAZRI's bootloader but you must apply for the key and after receiving the key your warranty is void,
- and that's not all:
following its user hostile policy indicated in previous development Motorola implemented track regarding rooting the phone (regardless of locked or unlocked bootloader) into stock recovery menu which is not removable yet,
besides Motorola removed voip from the ICS system and implement defective tethering and VPN,
- those limitations are implemented regardless of contracted or contract free relationship. I believe that at least Motorola clearly indicated that it intends to implement those restrictions in all future devices. We have yet to see what the others producers are up to regarding this issue.
Otherwise Intel processor performs well and I haven't found any limitations or malfunctions which could be blamed on the processor. Navigation, sensors, internet, video, audio, etc work well, fast and smooth.
The community of RAZRI is small but it is growing. Some of members, especially mattlgroff expresses excellent skills in development therefore we can expect custom ROMs soon.
As it is claims in forums unlocking the bootloader and rooting should not be the problem. I decided that I'd wait with rooting and firstly upgrade the phone with stock Jelly Bean.
I had Defy+ before too and I'm aware that such perfect community and development as could be experienced with this phone could not be expected for RAZRI soon.
Hope that I help to make your decision easier.
Right now I'm using OP5T. Thought of buying 6T but after looking at the vivo nex, I've attracted by it's design. BBK is a brand which owns the Vivo, Oneplus and Oppo. And the launch of OP7 is just weeks away with the design which I was expecting it to be. And I'm a guy who doesn't like selfies not gonna use the popup camera a lot so no worries about the mechanical part in my phone.

If you don't bother the pop-up cameras, On previous itself you can go with vivo nex or Oppo find X. why you should wait for OP 7 pro.

I'm a user that came from the 6T to the NEX S Global. It's a great phone, gorgeous if you ask, however 1+'s OS is way better and VIVO's update is really slow, also you can't unlock the bootloader. We're still on Android 8.1 while the chinese version is already on Pie.
It's a great phone, I really enjoy it, but I'll probably go the 7 Pro because I'm afraid how VIVO will handle future updates.

An Oxygen OS from Oneplus, you can get a smooth Android experience. And Still you can experience the stock android with some additional features in Oxygen OS. I never used that Color OS and all.
I'm a user both Vivo Nex S from last summer and 2.5 months I'm owed also Dual display as well.
Chinese version both of them.
I'm really enjoying both phones never bothered me ios style Funtouch and I really appreciate many features and customization option offer natively that Oxygen does not offer.
With Pie Vivo offer much more customization with AOD that Oxygen not ever had.
Also maintain battery saver mode with location while oxygen removed badly that option.
Also Vivo offers saperate notification sound alarm from ringing soung alarm very convenient and useful feature always appreciated when using Samsung devices.
Also one great feature is the dynamic lockscreen magazine with very rich wallpapers each time go lock screen you get wonderful and high quality photos.
To me Vivo of screen gestures works much better and user friendly than Oxygen does.
As long you setup the phone properly(removed Chinese bloatware very easily through setting menu that Vivo let you uninstalled almost everything, and some other stuff through adb) you are gone enjoy super smooth experience, exceptional stability and comfort and great battery performance.
Never had issue with notification as well as long uninstalled Vivo battery management witch is very aggressive and give all permission to app to work in background as by default Vivo is killing them.
The only benefits of Oxygen compared to Vivo or Oppo is the ability of rooting your device and all the potential open with that freedom.
For example I'm a big fan of substratum themes and testing several mod, tweak and custom rom and one of the basic reasons of buying oneplus 7 pro.
I really like have under full control the software experience.
Of course I'm buying it because I like full screen experience without any stupid notch or punch holes that I hate and never had issue with pop up camera (actually rarely I'm using front facing camera so I prefer being always hidden)
And of course the huge battery capacity of 4000 and the very promising new screen are all give me extra motivation of purchasing 7 Pro.
So as you can see I'm big fan of BBK group and their smartphone and prefer it over Samsung or Huawei devices as it's closest to my needs much more and really like of testing new design approach offering with unique character

Yes, Some of the features that you mentioned is not available in Oxygen OS. But everyone knows that Oxygen OS software smooth experience is way better than other BBK group phones. Many people including me doesn't like the Color OS and funtouch OS like they're copying stuffs from iOS but in Oxygen OS you can get an unique software experience .

As I said I'm not having issues both skin like them the same for what their offer.
I'm totally disagree for smoothness experience,both skins are the same.
Never experienced any lag with Funtouch or loosing smoothness over time.
Same setup,same app,same usage both skins.
As for copying ios it's matter of personal preferences only.
Some people like it some others not.
It doesn't have any impact on smoothness or stability.

If the in screen fingerprint reader is the same as used in the 6T get ready to be dissapointed, you are spoiled with the FP reader on the 5T

What's wrong with the fingerprint scanner on the 6T? Mine works fine, it has also been stated in a few articles and tweets that it will have a 2nd generation improved Fingerprint Scanner.

Nothing is "wrong" with it, it's just a much different experience than the lightning fast 5T reader.

What issue are you facing??
I often wonder if people who complain about FP readers know that you can register the same thumb/finger multiple times for better detection. 5 digits can be registered and they don't all have to be different.
Mines absolutely bloody fantastic as well. Can't complain.

Why is your finger moist/wet, is it a regular thing for you? Kinda of like people complaining it doesn't have an IP rating. Instead how about you just don't take your phone for a swim.

Who said anything about swimming with the phone? Dont assume, it makes you look stupid. Sweat, rain, washing your hand. I dont get how you cannot comprehend those things? Do you want me to draw pictures for you?
Im so tired to read all the comment about bad things about this phone , i mean i personally doesnt habe the perfect phone , i came with some problems too but then i realize u will NEVER find this phone good enough when you only looking for it mistakes . Dude u should be happy own this phone , since the others can only dream for it . No phone is perfect ? You think iphone is better ? Or any other brand ? Well please use the others , and im sure you will do the same , you will found that all phones have their own problem , probably to make the phone perfect for you , you just have to accept what it is and be happy with it . Or buy a new phone that you consider better , and lets see did u complain too or no .
imo phone will get better in updates
As with everything else from phones to cars you'll only find people posting about the faults, you never get people posting about the good things. That's fine though.

Well, tbh there's no such thing as perfect in this universe. Everything has flaws, flaws that make it unique.
Considering a phone, i believe, mobile companies tend to provide us with best of their hardware, however they do still lack behind when it comes to software. It may be appealing but it always lack certain features, tweaks, mods.
That is where custom roms comes in place.
We have Resurrection Remix - tweaking at it's extreme.
We have Lineage OS - stability at it's extreme.
For me, my perfect phone would be the flagship phone with a custom rom. What else you want huh? Consider Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G with Ressurection Remix, regardless of the fact that it has such a huge name XD.

Try disabling -all- power management... destroyer of worlds
Developer options>standby apps, all buckets should show as active otherwise power management is active.
Be careful what apps you limit background data to and -don't- allow background battery usage as well.
It's most likely a settings misconfiguration... play with it.
I share the same feelings with this post. I think that moaning without really looking for any solution is useless.

Yea for sure... Only sadly the cameras wouldn't function at their max potential... Which kinda makes the mentioned roms unnecessary. :/

Yea. You are right. They should import the stock camera apps in those roms for that to work.

Keep playing with it. Took me close to a year to fully sort out my Note 10+.
It runs extremely well now.

My version is up to date. All software update installed. Am i missing something here or it is what it is?

Check your display settings>screen mode.
Not sure what your options are but the "natural" setting produces truer rendering.
The vivid mode looks way oversaturated.
You may have more options in Developer options but probably not.

Hello, thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, i am only using the "Natural" option. There is just too much noise on the image even though there is enough light not to force the phone to use high ISO.

Try resetting camera data and clearing system cache.
Any case or cover that could be interfering?
Otherwise it may be a firmware or hardware issue.
SOLUTION TO DELAYED-NOTIFICATIONS:
Enable USB debugging on the phone.
You just unzip the file provided here in your PC: https://www.xda-developers.com/install-adb-windows-macos-linux/
Navigate to it via terminal.
Then, after you connect the phone to your PC, run:
./adb devices
./adb shell dumpsys deviceidle disable
That'll fix it for sure.

I could not get my GMail, GCal, and other notifications to come through properly on Pixel 5's Android 11 OR S21 Ultra's Android 11.
This has apparently been an issue that many an Android user suffers through silently -- and, some don't even know that this is happening to them. I guess they're embarrassed to publicly state that their mobile OS is subpar.
When you get an e-mail or if a calendar event reminder is coming up, and even if your phone's screen is OFF/locked: you should get an *instant* notification. No delay whatsoever.
Well, if my screen was off/locked, I wouldn't get these notifications or it would take 10+ minutes to show. But, once I unlocked my phone: boom, notifications. And, sometimes even if my screen wasn't locked, there would be a serious delay or no notification.
After spending loads of time trying to fix this problem, me and my friend finally stumbled upon a solution: ./adb shell dumpsys deviceidle disable
A reboot eliminates this setting modification, by the way.
Do not tell me that instant e-mail notifications are not necessary. Many of us work jobs that require them to be instant.
No end user should ever have to go through this. iPhone users certainly don't go through this.
If Google doesn't care about Android users, then, why should I, as an Android user, care about Android too? Just switch to iPhone, I guess.
Google pays Apple $10bn+ every year and makes better software for iOS than it does for Android.
Just look at the damn widgets that iOS users get.
So, $10bn/year plus the cost of the software developed to cater to iOS users.
This makes Google a simp cuck to Apple, nothing else.
Would Apple ever return this favor? No.
Therefore, Google management is a simp cucked by Apple, nothing more.
We are fools to be using this OS.
If Google is willing to subsidize my iOS software updates and experience to the tune of billions of dollars every single year -- then, why not just switch?

Wish you all the best, and a happy life with your new iPhone. Life is short and there's no point putting up with what you hate.
I can see you're really upset about a lot of stuff on Android. You do make some very valid points about what's broken in Android. And I guess any of those can trigger a person ebough to make them switch to iOS. But I think it also has something to do with the user's requirement and not the OS alone. If there was just one "best" OS, nobody would spend more than a thousand dollars on an alternative. It's good to have a choice, and in your case, I'm glad you've exercised that in favor of what you think with add more value to your life.
I've had both iPhones and Android phones for years and both of them offer 90% of the same functions that you'd expect from a good smartphone. The remaining 10% is where you have to make a choice. There are many things to choose from: stability vs experimental features, customisation vs familiarity, update cycle, longevity, resale value, tinker-ability (I know that's not a word ), app support (there are some apps that only support one or the other OS), and the list goes on.
My childhood friend and me bought matching MacBook Pros when we jumped ship into the Apple ecosystem with an iPhone and an iPad. We were "sick" of android, and wanted a taste of the premium life that the fruit promised to offer. Five years on, he still uses all his Apple gadgets and has added a homepod, an apple watch and airpods to his growing apple inventory, whilst upgrading the the latest idevices every two years. Me on the other hand, went from MacOS to a bootcamped Windows installation after a year of purchase and don't even boot into MacOS unless I have to use Final Cut Pro. My workflow goes best with Windows, no matter how good MacOS may be. On the other hand, his doesn't - he's completely iin love with the Apple way, and that's fine.
Same with iOS. I kept the iPhone for 2 years before trading it in for a OnePlus because I hated being told that there was a "correct" way of doing something and only that way was allowed. I couldn't live with an OS that denied me access to my device's filesystem! That, in my opinion is a basic requirement - but this may not be the case for everyone. I like a robust notification system and I've found the Android implementation head and shoulders above what Apple offers. I like third party app stores and the ability to sideload apps on my phone. I can't get that on iOS. And the best part - if I don't like something on Android, it's possible I can fix it with some workaround (like the one you posted). I agree with you that no end user should have to do that, but regardless, it can be done if you want to. No such possibility exists on the other side of the fence. So I chose to live with the shortcomings of Android as opposed to the shortcomings of iOS - simply becasuse the former were more acceptable to me than the latter, not because Android is better or worse that iOS. It just offers me what "I" want in a mobile operating system.
It may be the opposite in the next person's case - someone who values the other side of the equation more, like yourself. That's why it's good to have a choice.
But i sincerely believe that it's not so bad on the Android side of things. It is a very versatile and stable operating system offering a lot of flexibility and customisability on par with a full fleged desktop class operating system. In the end, it boils down to a blend of the OS and the user, not either one in isolation.

Honestly the holdup is probably on Qualcomm. Sahara is updated v3.x, so all firehose tools we've had stopped working. If MSM was leaked successfully, people would be able to reverse the new protocol, so QCom probably put more restrictions on OEMs to prevent that. Additionally, sources still doesn't seem to be released so nothing really can be built against. Check out any SD8G1 devices and the dev support currently:

Exactly, it got leaked but OnePlus put more protections around it. The thing itself is packed as well, I was able to start reversing it, and the protocol commands are COMPLETELY different. A lot of lower level things are much easier to reverse from dynamic analysis rather than static with vmprotect and other packers on. I don't really have time to do a full deep dive analysis on the protocol while not being able to even see it in action, just complete guesses. See https://github.com/bkerler/edl/issues/274 for a brief description in the 3rd post. Even if the loader is sent, the magic to start communication in firehose is now different as well, so after getting past sahara, now you have to deal with firehose.

Sounds like it is time to move away from Qualcomm then. I guess my next phone is going to be a Pixel after all. At least there I know that I'll get rapid updates that actually fix bugs rather than this nonsense with OnePlus that forces people to go to custom ROMs just to get basic functionality and a stable device in the first place.

Honestly I would just stick with OP9 on a supported stable rom of some kind and use it into the ground. Not sure what's going on but look at the dev section for Pixel 6 Pro, you got kernels, and that's about it, and it's been over 6 months since release already. The few roms that did come out are dying or dead.
If you don't care for custom roms to begin with, then samsung is always an option with an arguably better support promise than google

Oh no, I definitely do care for custom ROMs, I am *never* happy being locked down to what the manufacturer wants me to have which is why my last Samsung was the Note 5. If I got a Pixel, I would probably install ProtonAOSP (which is available on Pixel 6/Pro), use the Pixelify Magisk module to get back anything I lost, and be happy as can be. The only reasons I didn't go with the Pixel 6 originally were the reports of the crappy screen, the crappy Samsung modem (that's still giving people problems), and the crappy battery life. The 6 Pro was out because of the curved screen, the crappy modem, and the crappy battery life. My OP9 has none of those issues, just janky stock software complete with a massive and unacceptable SoC throttle and a buggy boot/fastboot implementation that makes it easy to brick.
I am happy with my OnePlus 9 now that I have StagOS paired with OOS12 C.48 firmware, there are only very minor issues and one major one that I have to remember to work around every time I restart the phone, but I am never happy for long and I get grass is always greener syndrome pretty frequently lol. I have been keeping tabs on the OP10P forum because it was originally going to be my next device (I only just got my 9 in February and I'm already wanting something new) but obviously the situation right now with OOS12 being a dumpster fire and how many people have bricked their OP10P trying to root it or change the firmware between regions... it's not a great sales pitch for sure when there isn't an MSM available and it sounds like there won't be for quite awhile, if ever.
There are so many issues with this phone and I started to hate the OnePlus. I'm definitely going to change my OP10 Pro to Google Pixel 7!

It works great, I've been loving it and it hasn't had nearly as much bugs as others have said with the hangs and what not. Everything feels super crisp, but I definitely agree with the overtuning optimization. Can't even background a game to send a text without it closing. Terrible.
So I'm already thinking I should have gotten the 9 Pro. More 5G bands, why the hell they got RID of a feature is beyond me, and actual custom ROM support, albeit very new. I'm sure given enough time the 10 pro will have custom roms, but the drought sure is making me feel like trading it in for the 9 Pro.
TL;DR Definitely considering trading in my OP10Pro for OP9Pro.

The phone is on point mate, the stamina and performance...even the camera is good (beside the lack of macro) video zooming is amazing and so smooth and stable, battery will last 3 days with little use or 10+ hours SOT otherwise, definitely 8+
Performance as I said is nuts. PS2 games? No problem, full 60 FPS which is a vast improvement over my 8pro, the 8 gen1 is superb, my phone's never got over 32-34c
I've read it's Qualcomm being bumholes, I've heard Devs just won't get it (waiting for the 11)

This would be the first time OnePlus has really dished out a dodo... Honestly the last time I felt like this it was with HTC, only we had ROMs to flash, I know things have changed and Google wants to go the way of Apple, probably to get a nod from corporate tools who couldn't care less and will still buy an iPhone anyway.
I know we only account for a small percentage of people who buy Android devices and mod them I think it was 5-10% maybe less. But it doesn't end with those numbers, every person on XDA (well a large number) are usually the designated IT as nominated by their mum/dad/sisters etc and we fix things for everybody, but we also influence what they buy so no that percentage is a load of old twaddle, if you couple the rooters with the people we influence and the people the talk to, then that number is a much higher percentage.
Just reminds me of the HTC one X when Nvidia got hold of it and locked it down, HTC never recovered from that, Samsung saw an opening and the Galaxy's S took over, I think the pixel or something else will do the same to OnePlus, have been looking at the nothing phone, it looks ridiculous but it there's a custom ROM scene for it then I'm heading that way after one year with this.

Honestly the last time I felt like this it was with HTC, only we had ROMs to flash, I know things have changed and Google wants to go the way of Apple, probably to get a nod from corporate tools who couldn't care less and will still buy an iPhone anyway.
I know we only account for a small percentage of people who buy Android devices and mod them I think it was 5-10% maybe less. But it doesn't end with those numbers, every person on XDA (well a large number) are usually the designated IT as nominated by their mum/dad/sisters etc and we fix things for everybody, but we also influence what they buy so no that percentage is a load of old twaddle, if you couple the rooters with the people we influence and the people the talk to, then that number is a much higher percentage.
Just reminds me of the HTC one X when Nvidia got hold of it and locked it down, HTC never recovered from that, Samsung saw an opening and the Galaxy's S took over, I think the pixel or something else will do the same to OnePlus, have been looking at the nothing phone, it looks ridiculous but it there's a custom ROM scene for it then I'm heading that way after one year with this.

This is happening atm, and my last op phone unfortunately. This brand was the pc of the smartphone world, modding and general feel wise but not anymore...

Nah, something else might come along but not Google. You can always leave it up to Google to **** something good up.
Though I wouldn't communicate it in the same way (please keep it civil folks), I do very much agree that OnePlus has become exactly what they were up against back in 2014. They've become massive hypocrites by shutting out the community that made them. There was so much amazing development on the OnePlus One, which I have proudly owned as a daily driver for over 3 years, that a lot of community invented/inspired goodies ended up in all Android iterations by all brands active in the market today. It was truly revolutionary. And this is how OnePlus thanks us today: with a knife in our collective backs. Under the disguise of "improving security" – which is an easy excuse for a lot of things – companies like OnePlus and of course also Google have been striking development communities hard. Why? Not willing to deal with any liability or unpredictable situations (shareholders like keeping things predictable) I guess. The cool thing, though, is that we're still here and we're still developing!
I currently have high hopes for Nothing. If it'll be anything like Bacon, another community revolution is just around the corner...
