Hey guys- I recently bought a new 2023 Honda, and had the OnePlus 8, which the android auto worked one time and quit- I then went and got the OnePlus 10 Pro thinking this would help- out of the box it never worked with my car.
I was considering that maybe developer options being on may be an issue but I can't find any information on it.
Any feedback would be appreciated!
Welcome to XDA.
Simply turn off Developer options and it will revert to its default settings.
Awesome, thanks, I'll give this a shot

Turn Developer options back on and try playing with the USB settings. Double settings on both devices.
Ok I'll give that a shot, I considered it but I hadn't changed anything from the standard before- I was moreso curious if it limits the USB functions to something like ADB if developer options are on,

I have a 2018 civic and the mode ex file transfer charging etc when plugged in matters. Forgot which one works right. But try different one in the phone when connecting.
USB debugging can be on 24 7
With USB debugging enabled, restart your phone to confirm it stays enabled. Then, when you plugin phone, use the Photo Transfer option. Might get 2 popups on phone, just wait until the prompt is there and choose Photo Transfer. Cars are dumb and do not like USB Debugging (even if disabled), because the ADB driver loads up first and breaks the initial connection.
I drive a Jetta and it happens on so many different phones/cars. Some car and phone combos like different configurations. You would think the one that says Android Auto would work best... Not even in a 2023 vehicle lol.

On older Windows Mobile phones you could delete the codec for Audio and leave the one for phone. Maybe you could do this on older Android too, I can't remember.
Now it's just a Check Box to disable it.
Problem is, every time I start my car it gets re-enabled when it connects the phone. And sometimes will even start the music player on the phone. even when that source is not selected.
Car is 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee with 8.4AN Nav package.
It's Nav is no where as good as the Nav in the phone.
While this isn't an answer for bluetooth on the whole,
On the 8.4, go to the bluetooth settings, go to the second tab on the left for audio device, and disconnect there (while leaving the phone connected). As long as it has seen that once, I don't believe it attempts to reconnect it again unless you tell it to specifically.

I've done that, It will reconnect next time you start the car.

good luck with this though
I'm not sure if this applies to HTC phones but on samsung ones you can longpress whichever pair device, select options, and uncheck media. This should disable music and should still alow phone calls to come thru

I think that's what the OP meant when they said:
"Now it's just a Check Box to disable it."
If not, that's entirely valid

Correct. I can disable it fine. Until the next time you start the car and it rechecks it.
On every rom I've tried so far, the OK Google voice command sometimes works from the lock screen, sometimes not. When I go to check the settings for voice control, the"Always on" and "Personal results" are grayed out and obviously I can't use OK Google from the lock screen. But then sometime later the options are back and no longer grayed out. It works when it wants to and I have no control over it.
Is this a known bug? Or is there some custom rom setting that's interfering with voice detection? Very strange.
I thought it depended on whether the device was charging or not

No it doesn't. The Nexus 6 has the always listening feature like the Moto X. It's just weird that's been broken on 3 different roms.

Anyone have an issue where the 1st time you initiate the okay Google command that it brings up an unsuccessful web search? I have to initiate it a second time and it works. If I uninstall the Google search update everything works fine. Only when I update it do I run into this issue.
try wiggling these toggles? might help?

Actually yes, I have done that. But it's only a temporary fix. I don't see why, after wiping my device 3 times, and it still keeps happening. When I switch roms, I make sure to do a complete wipe from twrp (factory reset, then advanced and hand select wipes except internal storage, then wipe cache and dalvik before reboot into new rom) I don't understand why 3 different roms have the same issue.
At this point, I'm so happy with Candy rom that I can overlook this issue, but it's just nice if everything would work as intended.

i miss this, now all android dose is automatically connect to usb mode without asking me and thats annoying and not very safe.
if i cant have back that prompt can i at least have a way to make android ask me to connect to computer first in MSC or MTP mode?
preferably without any third party app please.
im using stock rooted 5.1.1 LP on my xperia Z1 c9602 (Unlocked bootloader)
When you connect usb cable to the pc, there is a notification about this. Just pull notification bar down and click on that message. There is two options to choose...
Sent from my SM-N910C using Tapatalk
On a Xperia z1 there's no 2 options. Only one and one option is to disconnect from computer or if you have it enabled to disconnect from USB debugging

For choose between msc and mtp
For choose between msc and mtp go to settings/xperia connectivity/usb connectivity/connection mode.
I hope it's what you're looking for
I'm not familiar with Xperia devices, but there's always a way. On most Samsung devices, for instance, it can be accessed either via a dialer code or by re-enabling a preference in Settings that was removed. If the solution that @somereta provided doesn't work, I'd recommend first using Nova Launcher or something to create an Activity shortcut, and browse through the Activities for Settings to see if there are any related to USB mode (and if they work). If so, then re-enabling the option will be fairly easy.
Nope. Still dosent work. I noticed on aosp roms it asked us connected, would you like to connect USB mode?
So I'm sure maybe. Small edit enables it. Perhaps build.prop..

Decompile your settings apk, and look for USBSettings smali. There may be more than one, in different folders. If there aren't any, look for any smali files with USB in the name.
Once you've found that/those, search each file for "removePreference". For each instance (if there are any), look at the lines directly above it, and you should be able to tell which preference it's referring to.
If you find any that sound like they're for the option you want, just remove the entire corresponding removePreference line (and make sure there are no more instances of it anywhere else in the smali), recompile, and it'll probably be there. If you do that and you still don't have the option, or if you don't have any USB related smali or removed preferences within those smali, let me know and we can move on to something else.
Sorry I can't be more specific, but as I said before, I'm not familiar with Xperia devices, so I'm not sure where exactly the appropriate files/lines will be located, or if they're names are slightly different.
Since upgrading to Marshmallow, my USB connection settings won't stick. Whenever I connect by USB to my computer, it automatically goes to "charging" mode. I have to manually switch it every time to MTP. Anyone else notice this? Is there a fix? Not a big deal, but kind of a pain!
Try changing it in Developer Settings...

Changing the setting in Developer Options doesn't stick either. It still reverts back to "charging" when reconnected.
Edit: My possible fix (below) didn't work either. After a while, it reverted back to just "charging". Back to the drawing board! If anyone has any ideas, please let me know!
Found a possible fix! Hoping it holds up. Settings>Developer Options> turn on USB Debugging. Then in USB Configuration, choose something other than MTP. Once that stuck, I could select MTP and it stuck. Seems to work fine and connects as media device now.

Did you ever resolve your issue? I have the same problem with Nougat. It's Note 8.0 though. Thanks
I have scoured the internet for answers on why my developer options won't turn on. I'm running a note 8.

Hate to ask such an obvious question but, are you aware the developers option shows up at the bottom of the main settings page, just under "about phone"?
Failing that, if you download this app from the Play Store, it should hopefully give you access to developers options menu, seeing as you have already enabled it by clicking on the build number 7 times
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=options.developer.com.developeroptions
I know where developer options should be, it's not there.
Also the app is telling me to turn it on

Did you tap on "Build Number" more then 7 times in about phone/software info.?
Keep on tapping it you'll see a toast message at bottom of screen counting down to 0 the it will say developers options enabled. Then back out of settings and reopen settings and scroll down to bottom. Might try rebooting the phone.
Worst case scenario is to do a BACKUP and factory reset. Not necessarily needed but who knows.
