need some ques for firsthand users...is it laggy or smooth...hearing a lot of complaints about it...
go ahead, best phone at this price
There are touch issues with many of them, mine had also gone back to the service centre for touch repairs. Careful where you buy it from, you might not get warranty option
regret, i brought it based on its excellent specifications.
worst phone i ever had (china version).
better to buy xiaomi than lenovo, better of the worst.

what happened with your phone? the phone was pretty good in my opinion, did everything so well, i wish the camera was better but for the price its good. I only started the have touch issues after i dropped it from about 1.5m on concrete. I had the indian version but they are identical with different names and boxes
This phone is good..
If this phone is not good then xda won't let it have its own forum..
All those developers don't develope their rom or
They don't give all those supports..
For me its awesome..
You want the truth? Here you go!
I'm an end user of this phone myself and it is literally the worst phone I had ever experience because of this Phone I had to learn how to root and install custom recovery which I never done before in quite a while on the get-go. Not to mention that I had to learn about Xposed because it lacks customisation options. The Official OS sucks the worst trully! I prefer Nexus ROM by Dr. Root better. Specs are ok for the price and if you use Nexus Custom ROM as mentioned previously you will have a lot of free space for RAM. If you are a normal end consumer who wants it easy either look for another phone OR buy an iPhone, but if you have interest in technology and wants to customise your software, look no further this is by far the best cheap phone I used so far.
Here are the MUST you need:
1) Interest in android
2) Tech Savvy
3) Learn to root in anyway possible i.e. One-click root, SP Flash tool and/or adb fastboot
4) Learn more about Xposed framework
5) Learn to flash custom recovery using mobile uncle (or anything similar), SP Flash Tool and/or adb fastboot
Optional but very effective that you don't need the previos 5
6) Have a friend that can do number 1-5.
Once a gain and I quote "If you are a normal end consumer who wants it easy either look for another phone OR buy an iPhone, but if you have interest in technology and wants to customise your software, look no further this is by far the best cheap phone I used so far.". The Official ROM is full of bloatware that hogs your RAM thus choosing a Custom ROM is compulsory.

No mate, you didnt have to learn it, you chose to do this yourself, you couldve simply used a stock launcher, but you didnt, you had youtube reviews showing it all, but you ignored that and still purchased the phone. The stock one isnt bad and the stock OS does not suck so dont go ahead blaming it because you didnt like it and made poor decisions.

if someone is looking at buying this phone, why would they opt for an iphone which is 5 times the price?
OP its all about preference, if you have a price range and cant go higher, go for this phone, keep in mind, it has no app drawer, but you get used to it, also if you want an app drawer or stock feel, you can always install a launcher like google launcher or nova. This phone is very good for its price and i would highly recommend it, just be warned about the touch issues many users are facing
stock OS is one of the biggest sh*t (chinese version).
the moment it is connected, if u r lucky using wifi, otherwise data connection cost money wasted on all the bloated malwares downloaded.
worst of all, lenovo game center, apps/games applicable to china only.
if it is ROW (Rest-Of-the-World) maybe better, no gapps for chinese version.
local radio (ota) cut-off every 15 minutes.
speaker too small and soft, always missed call in my pocket.
heat up every fast.
everything in chinese widgets/themes/fonts...........
weather only in china cities......
lists continue....unable to uninstall bloatware, some unable to disable............
block all bloatwares permission to data connection/wifi/auto-start run/background-run still some able to auto-run............
how good can stock os be?
nonsense, it is so bad, tats why custom roms are put up on xda......
ps;
since i had this phone, there r several major updates (chinese version) in just a few months. this will never happens to any phone makers, reasons is very simply....too many sh*tty problems.
op if u r not tech savvy or know basic linux commands, get yourself a xiaomi. at least they provide google installation apps, world-wide recognitions (not limited to regions eg. china, india, russia) and lesser problems from the go-start.
pss;
i had to use Mediatek engineering mode app to boost volume level, risk damaging to the phone speaker or my expensive head-set.
psss;
one last sh*t from lenovo.......install lenovo usb driver......it will load chinese malwares.
pssss;
i promise this will be the last of my sh*t......ROW (Rest-Of-the-World) does not means the WORLD, it meant for india and russia. if u live in these countries, its ok to buy.

I never think it was a mistake, for me. It was good that I purchase the phone with faulty ROM since I get to learn anything and everything about android. It's a win for me since the specs ain't bad.
Buy it if you want some adventure with android.
one of the Best community for a mid-range phone.
I learned a lot of things by using this phone.
From flashing custom ROMs, using SPFlash Tools(Really helpful, helped many of my friends to recover from bricking.)
I suggest you to buy this phone.
I only ask the above because we have one unofficial ROM and zero modified stock ROMs and nothing to flash in case of emergencies, it's off putting for me to modify anything as I've nothing on my memory to flash should I need it.
Not being needy, just concerned that this flagship isn't getting the treatment it deserves
Well there's reasons for that. Phone just came out not long ago, not released in the US, and in a strange move Huawei have said in two months bootloader unlocking won't officially be supported basically killing development for this phone unfortunately. I wouldn't expect any major developers moving their ROM's to us.

Still find it odd, firstly with every flagship I've had and as you can see from my signature ( if you're viewing this on a pc ) I've had quite a few.
I have never once seen, after over a months release only one non official ROM available for a phone, the Sony z1 and the note 4 being the worst amongst every device I've had, the OnePlus and the HTC sensation being the best with the most.
Secondly there is a huge chance that Huawei will overturn their decision to allow bootloader unlocking, not only that but id have imagined that with today's developers whether or not Huawei allows unlocking, we would still have a hack around it S-Off for HTC devices springs to mind.
The US not being involved is a loss but at the same time, some of the best developers I've had the chance to communicate with here on XDA have been from all over the world, not too many from the US iirc so I'm not buying that.
I'm not bashing here but just a little concerned that not a single ROM had been released, I think it's a terribly sign for such a device to have nothing.
I've even been looking into making my own ROM myself, will know over the next few weeks if I can make that a reality or not, but as it stands I don't even have a starting base and the difference between devices unless debranded is quite stark and would probably end up bricking devices.
Such a shame, I sincerely hope it changes but I'm holding less and less hope as time goes on.
PS: I'm not sure but wasn't treble meant to be able to be used on this device too??
There are plenty of treble based ROMs and most of them should work fine.: https://forum.xda-developers.com/project-treble
Just flash them via TWRP. Otherwise Huawei phones have traditionally never had much independent ROM development.

Oh mate??? You might have just become my hero, I know literally nothing about project treble other than the fact that it may help with ROM flashing, but again have never done it..
Coming from the OnePlus 5 I never needed it.
Have you flashed any treble ROMs on this device ?
If you don't mind can I just ask.
If I flash something, how can I get back to my normal ROM if it becomes unbootable?
Update: @mrabcx
I tried to install a treble ROM, made a nand back up first and it failed to boot, restored nand and it's now back up and running.
I think we need a treble compatible twrp, does it even exist for the p20 pro??
I don't have P20 myself so can't answer that, but the phone is very similar to other Huawei phones such as Mate 10 and should in theory be able to boot Treble ROMs. I guess there could be some issues with clearing cache/wiping data etc. If you can post the details in the Treble ROM sections then I'm sure someone there will be able to help you out.

Yep I was under that impression myself, then I tried every single ROM there is in the treble section, not a single one booted.
Not only that but everyone there is trying to get it working on their phones so no one really cares for anyone else.
Not good.
Tried via fastboot as our twrp doesn't work.
Tried via twrp and the sand issue.
Don't get me wrong, i still love this phone, but it's just sad it is almost completely ignored by HMD
The potential of giving this device custom roms and mods has pretty much died out now, for them not giving kernel source and not even allowing us to unlock our bootloaders. rooting is also almost impossible unless you want to pay for a bootloader unlock key or stay on Nougat to achieve a temporary unlock.
It's been two years now, and nothing has changed their minds, and no huge progress was made for this device here in xda, there is actually one custom rom under development but i think it's barely usable, and it was never finished, we all know this phone will soon virtually die because of lack of software support after the 2-3 year period. If this keeps up, then there's no point for me in using this phone any longer, cuz i lived my android phones through root and customizations, and I'll get really bored if my phone can't get any of it. i thought HMD was kind enough, but they favor other higher end devices instead
GCam spared some of its worth at least, but it's only a matter of time before this device will be forgotten the way HMD forgot their purpose who broke the trust of a lot of Nokia fans.
The Nokia 6.1 might be my next phone, but after HMD's poor performance of "service" I'm having doubts now of me not ever creating custom roms for this.
If you have any opinions or if i said something wrong feel free to leave a reply below...
I've got a Nokia 6.1 and it is the best phone I've had. I enjoy using it on latest Android one pie with root. 64gb internal storage, 4gb ram :good: , I'm very happy with it
I recommend the stock rom over GSI ROMs but that's my personal preference.
Here is a list of a/b treble gsi's for Nokia 6.1

You need cash. Visit techmesto website.
It's business. HMD wants you to buy a new phone.
On the other hand, it was never popular on XDA. It's on the low-end side that was a little bit more expensive than any other phone with the same specs. There was no reason to buy it in the first place.
Good Morning,
i have no technical background but using software and Hardware. Keep hardware for a long time.
Joined as I replace with a xperia 1 .
I like the new phone and was happy with the price, but it has a catch.
I purchase a SO-03L Version with a disgustingly infected(couple dozen of stupid unisntalable apps &n services NTT DOCOMA operating system.
I like to use it via the german Vodafon network.
The device is sim UNlocked
I always would liked to use my phone with a selfchosen clean OS and as want to use the chance of the the device to try a custom os ( lineage OS or maybe the Pixel rom).
I am well aware that most Information are most likely already publish within this forum but I yet struggle to gather them to feel confident about flashbooting my precious device.
Anyhow, if anyone could direct me to the right thread or would even be willing to assist me via dm or similar I would appreciate it.

Moin,
curious about how active the community is. After using the phone "branded" by NTT, I still like the hardware, but the spammy and messy OS doesn't spark joy at all + I am struggling to connect to my german vodafone network without further steps.
even tho I did quite a bit of reading into custom forms, I never ever installed flash tool etc in the fear bricking my precious phone Had a fight with my girl and will proof this evening that I am capable of making that phone my phone.
I will gather and sort my steps and publish them here, if it work smoothly it will be documented and if I was a fool and f*** up to follow not even a dozen step manual, I deeply wish some veteran slides into my notifications >oo<

I am concerned as in XDA Thread ( https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/can-i-fash-xperia-1-so3l-to-global-rom.4436503/ )
the SO 03L brought up issues even tho some solve it with"poking the fingerprint sensor")^^
Step 1: Get smooth
Using a Dell xps 14 Win 10 connected to wlan and electricity and the phone is charged by 99%
No SIM no sd card card
USB C cable is proudly "donated" by an SCAN DISK sdd harddrive so should be a decent enough.
Next Step. BACK UP and factory reset
Another check for SIM LOCK issues and note of the IMEI

Recommanationas for a rom
I'm new to the world of root and I want to try different ROMS, custom kernels, debloat, etc. I'm fully aware of the risks that come with rooting my phone, and I'm ready to go. I have a Pixel 5a. When I check out the 5a forums, there's not much there. The P5 has all the action! I want to know if I substitute the Barbet images for the Redfin images, can I use the Pixel 5 methods on my 5a?

Right on. Thanks for the reply.. Why does the 5 seem so much more popular?
Because the 5 was the "flagship" device that year
The Pixel 5 and 5a share the same SoC, so the firmware is effectively the same between them. Still, for the sake of being safe, I wouldn't mix and match.
The only difference between the two is the 5 has 8GB RAM, while the 5a has a bigger screen and a bigger battery. Other than that, they're identical.
Thanks for the info.. How risky is it-- If the biggest difference is in the RAM? About 10 or 12 years ago I read an article about Android and it's capabilities through open source code, so I've wanted to root and mess around with ROMS and different firmware for a long time. Unfortunately, at that time I was in prison so naturally I didn't have access to a phone. I got home in 2020 looking to change my life so I've tried to at least make this a hobby. So far I'm somehow not very lucky in getting the right phones. I thought I finally did last year when I bought a Moto Stylus 5g from cricket. I paid the phone off, cricket unlocked it, but Motorola won't give up the unlock code. Then I got a Pixel 3 but it turned out to be from Verizon and they're haters off the jump, so that was a huge disappointment too. Finally, I have this Pixel 5a. Factory unlocked, incredibly easy as far as unlocking the bootloader and rooting go and I can't seem to find a custom ROM for it. I was able to flash to graphene OS, but there were some issues with my esim so I went back to stock. A couple nights ago I tried Bliss ROMs but I don't know what I'm doing wrong there but I can't get it to work. I got kind of excited about the pixel experience plus, but that guy doesn't seem to be messing around with it anymore, he says there doesn't seem to be enough interest in it. When I look at the Pixel 5 forum, they have all the bells and whistles! I don't have an education nor do I have the money to buy phone after phone. Especially some of the more popular brands. Unless I'm looking at a ROM that requires more of it, how does 2gb if RAM make such a difference? Also you replied to another question I posted. About locking the bootloader.. what happens if I lock it without having the stock and bone firmware?
