Have an used Pixel 5 here which was labeled as sim locked (carrier unknown ). I'm not sure if it really has sim lock or if the mobile connection is defective. When I insert my SIM it asks for the PIN and then the correct carrier is shown under network settings - there is no signal however.
How can I make sure it has sim lock and it's not a HW defect?
If it's locked - is there a way to find out the carrier which it is locked by?
More general - how is a sim lock indicated to the user when inserting a sim from another provider?
I've sent the phone to google for repair (Connectivity problem). They stated that no defect was found which would support the sim lock theory. Is there a way to know for sure?
If Google Repair team says there are no defects (assuming the team that handled it were competent), then it most likely is a carrier locked phone. I've never used a locked phone before so I'm not sure what to look for but if you can find out which carrier it's locked to, you could try inserting that carrier's sim card?
If you get a signal, then swap out the sim card to a different carrier and if it doesn't work, then it's definitely locked.
I don't know which carrier it could be looked to and how to find that out. When I enter the IMEI at the start of the repair process in the google store the device is identified as "Pixel 5 (128 GB, Just Black, without SIM-Lock)".

Hi All,
I apologize in advance if that has been posted and responded to, but my searches have been unfruitful. My boss has the Motorola Droid 3, stock rom, NOT rooted on the Verizon network (in NYC). He will be traveling abroad to the mid-east and contacted VZW Global Services and they provided him with the SIM Unlock code.
I then proceeded to insert my AT&T SIM card into his phone and booted it up - in anticipation of the SIM Unlock Code screen so that when he gets to his destination country, all he'll have to do is insert the SIM card which he will purchase there.
Unfortunately, no such screen appeared. I was able to access the phone's other functions and was even able to go into Settings>Wireless Settings and switched the device to GSM/UMTS only (from the default 'Global' setting). Still, nothing occurred. I then forced it to search for a network (even though automatically connect was checked) and believe it or not, midway through its search, the phone completely rebooted on its own. I thought that maybe NOW, when the phone finishes loading, that it will ask me for the SIM Unlock Code. Well, it didn't. The phone just booted up normally and indicated that there was no service (bars with the red circle and slash through it).
We called Global Services back and they claimed that we will not see a SIM Unlock code for any US-Domestic carrier SIM cards (sounds fishy to me) and the SIM Unlock Code screen will appear ONLY when a Foreign/Non-US Carrier SIM Card is placed in the phone. My suspicion is that the Global Services rep doesn't know the difference b/t his a** and his elbow and was just saying anything that seemed plausible to get me off the phone. It would be VERY BAD if my boss travels to his destination and operates on the assumption that this will work once he inserts a foreign SIM card and for it not to work at all.
Any thoughts/insights into this would be VERY much appreciated and if this topic was already discussed on another thread, I would very much appreciate the link to that thread.
I have seen similar topics on other phone model threads, but none of the instructions in each of those respective threads had a solution that seemed applicable to this specific problem.
Many MANY thanks in advance!

You should most certainly see an unlock screen with a US based sim card. I used an old deactivated T-Mobile Sim card to get my unlock code prompt. try going to the phone dialer and enter *#*#4636#*#* - give it a sec and a menu will come up. In the menu scroll down a bit and you'll see a network selection bar. Tap the bar and select GSM Auto (PRL). You should immediately get a popup or perhapse after you back out of it. If not, scan for networks again. If it still gives you problems - PM me and we'll get it figured out.
network SIM unlock screen missing for T-Mobile US
Folks,
I am experiencing a similar issue as the original poster. No matter what I do, I can not get the Droid global (stock rom, v2.3.3) to attach to the T-Mobile network. If I follow the instructions"
*#*#4636#*#* - give it a sec and a menu will come up. In the menu scroll down a bit and you'll see a network selection bar. Tap the bar and select GSM Auto (PRL) ".
I see the screen momentarily flash the t-mobile network, then switch back to indicating that the network type is CMDA-1xrtt. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.
BTW this sim works fine in a BB Bold 9000. Also it is just a simple voice/messaging sim - no data plan.
Never mind - after more research, seems I have a phone with the US carriers locked out. - off to see if I can update it

You can follow the guide to have the phone work and it will fix that.

You need to use a foreign Sim card, not an American one because Verizon disabled access to all other American gsm networks

I was to access the screen you mentioned however I was unable to get it to ask for my unlock code, any ideas?
I had the same issue. The unlock code was already put in. Though this may be, there is more you need to do to have it working on US carriers like AT&T.
The guide is here

I c, U have to use Non-US SIM CARD. otherwise U have to unlock the US radio first. but if U having trouble to pop the SIM Network Unlock Code screen, just put non-US SIM and set the mobile network from global to gsm/umts. these also apply to those whose troubled with subsidy lock, so they can input the code.
Worked for me with tmobile or att sim card in the phone. You have to backup rename the build.prop file in the system(Rename the old build.prop to build.bak) put the new build.prob file in the system, restart the phone and wa-la, it will ask you for an unlock code. Enter it give it 15 or so sec reboot the phone, select GSM/UMTS and wait 30sec to 2mins you will receive a signal.
Hello,
This is my first XDA forum post. And I am sorry for it to be about a trouble question.
I've recently bought a Xperia TL Lt30at that is AT&T from ebay.
Anyway, I am planning on using it in Mexico from time to time, since I live near the border, so I bought another carrier's SIM (Telcel) and was to unlock the phone.
But now that I called AT&T to get the Unlock pin number (for free) they told me the phone's imei was blacklisted.
Questions:
Can I still unlock it to use in Mexico with Tecel carrier even if the IMEI is blacklisted on AT&T?
and, Why after inserting Telcel SIM into the phone the SIM NETWORK UNLOCK PIN screen does not show? Do you know why this is not showing?
Could it be that the blacklisted IMEI is not allowing the Unlock pin screen to show after inserting another SIM?
Many thanks in advance

hello;
insert at&t sim card, dial *#*#7378423#*#* after this there will be several options shown, choose "service info" and then "sim lock" , there will be listed 5 things , first one is "network" , if you wanna know if your phone is at&t locked, there should be 'x' between [ ], like this [x] network and the number, maybe 5,4 or three, this last number shows the attempts left for network unlock; if there is no x between [] this means that your phone is unlocked for all carrier ; if there is x between [] and last number id not 0, you can unlock it! just search by google ,there are several websites which offer unlock codes for amount of money, you only provide imei code , and they generate code" to see imei , dial *#06#;

Thanks for the info. I've already done that and I checked the IMEI number, that is how after calling at&t to unlock my phone they notified me that the IMEI was blacklisted.
The phone has 10 unlock tryouts left.
Do you know if this is causing the phone not to show the SIM NEWTWORK UNLOCK PIN screen after inserting an invalid carrier SIM? Because I can reproduce this from any video I have seen.

no , blacklisted imei is not the reason ; when you insert invalid sim, what is happening? does your phone detect sim and is there any signal?

That is the thing also. I had a regular size SIM card from another carrier, I cut it using a template to fit the Xperia TL that uses MicroSIM (I tested that it still works on phones that use the regular size) and when I place it inside the TL it does not recognize the SIM like it is not there.
Could it be that I need to get a real MicroSIM from another carrier to display the SIM UNLOCK NETWORK PIN screen?

yes of course, you need good micro sim card, phone does not detect sim card because it is not well cut; if the phone works perfectly with other sim it means that there is no damage to sim slot; i also have got xperia lt30at; I cut micro sim using template and it worked fine; when there is no sim card detected, the SIM UNLOCK NETWORK PIN screen will never appear
Thanks for your help, I have gotten a new microSIM from my carrier and it works. Seems the other one was very old and not even cutting it would have worked.
Now it does display the SIM UNLOCK NETWORK PIN screen after inserting it.
Yo don't know if you unlocked it yet but I just unlocked one for sell n it can't be blacklisted cause all the networks have the imei number n it won't allow the phone to work?

How to check SIM lock status of the phone (besides sticking in the other carrier's SIM card)?
Usually, as you mentioned, you only need to insert a different SIM card. However, it depends on the phone's Imei status, if it's clean or not. And on the network on which the phone is actually locked.
You can check this guide to see if your phone is network locked:Mod Edit
VERY Odd Problem - SIM Card Locked, Requesting PIN. Only on This Phone & SIM Combo
On each boot, the phone asks for "SIM network unlock PIN", and otherwise will read "No SIM card" in the notification bar.
What's odd however is this phone is unlocked. It's an AT&T Nexus 6, and was previously working under Cricket Wireless. The SIM card is from Mint Mobile, and works with my unlocked LG G5. It's only this phone & SIM combination together that's causing issues.
Trying to access APN settings gives the message "Access Point Name settings are not available for this user".
I've tried factory resets, as well as full flashes back to stock, etc.
I've never encountered this before, if anyone has any ideas or input I'd appreciate it.
Sounds like it is NOT unlocked. Since Cricket Wireless is an MVNO directly owned by AT&T, it makes sense to me that an locked AT&T device may work on Cricket.
Test with a friends SIM card. The Nexus 6 works on all carriers in the United States- Sprint, Verizon, Tmobile or AT&T. If their SIM card does the same thing, yea this confirms that it's locked. Buy an unlock code, it should only be a few dollars I reckon.
edit: also please note there is a difference between an unlocked/locked bootloader and unlocked/locked network. They are NOT mutually exclusive.
I have a rooted Note 9 SM-960f/ds I was using on verizon and I went to switch to a Tmobile sim card and it's asking for a sim network unlock pin. I didn't set one up nor should it be locked to verizon.. to I need to unroot and do a factory reset for it work.

I had something similar with T-Mo iPhone when my phone was roaming on ATT due to poor T-Mo coverage. When I returned to T-Mo coverage (even rebooted phone) it still didn't work. I had to call T-Mo & they provided me with a SIM-specific unlock code. Such a bunch of crap to go through.
Good luck.

the f devices shouldnt be carrier locked, at least not for USA carriers. Are you sure its not talking about a sim card lock? if ti is, many sim cards pins are 0000, 1234 etc etc, but you only get 3 tries before it locks it down and you will probably have to get a new sim as that usually burns the sim (not literally burn, its just the term we use as salespersons of cellular service when a sim is no longer usable for a multitude of reasons)
ZeroXO fixed my phone I guess it was somehow network locked and it was a hex edit that was wrong. but he fixed it and all is good
