Coolwalk downgrade - Android Auto General

Hi everyone,
I would like to go back to non coolwalk version of android auto.
I read that I should download 8.4. version. So I have downloaded respective .apk and the installation will never finish. It ends with error message that the package is not valid.
My samsung is arm64-v8a so I made sure to download the right version. https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/googl...auto-8-4-624304-release-android-apk-download/
So I decided to use ApkMirror Installer to see the exact reason why it fails and the error that I am getting now is that the package that I am trying to install is older that the one currently installed.
How should I proceed now? Any idea?
Thank you
J.

You need to uninstall the current version installed on your device, then install the downgraded version.
Yes, you will loose any current settings and you will have to redo them.

I feel very stupid now It worked.
Tested in my car and non coolwalk version is back now. Now I need to do the same with Waze as current version is not supported by non coolwalk AA.

I got CoolWalk in my Samsung Fold2.But in my Coolwalk screen in the car I am getting only 2 tiles namely Maps and Music. No weather or Phone tile. Why this?

Is this still working for you? I receive a message indicating the Android auto app must be updated. I think it's related to Google Play services app updating itself.

Above the Music Tile there is a partition where it shows notifications and other informations.Probably weather should also show there if it is activated in general customisation in AA Settings.

Google Maps icon disapears with 7.0 update

Hello all !
I had the "Maps" icon in the bottom dock bar. Yesterday, there is the V7.0 update of Google Maps. After the update (via Play, not apk), the icon is gone in the bottom bar, and is neither in the application roaster. Sense seems to beleive that the icon is still in the dock (and so it don't appears in the roaster), but it is not.
But the application IS in the phone : I can see it in android application list, and I can invoke it by a search "Maps" in phone in Google Now.. (not very handy, but this works), and it works perfectly.
Anyone has this problem too ? How can I manage it ?
Thanks for your support
Note : I'm with stock 4.1.1 sense/android (4.2.2 not available yet in France..). Not rooted.

This works !! The icon is back in roaster, and I can put it back in dock bar. Thanks a lot, I should have guessed this myself.
But I have one last weird thing : when I select an address in the contact list, Maps used to launch (or appears as a proposed application) to show the address in a map. Since 7.0 (even after restart), Maps don't shows in applications proposed to show the address (I have Navigon etc.. but not Maps..). Is this normal ?
The restarting doesn't seem to help for me. Any other way to get the icon back?

I did. It may be that restarting will not work for me because i changed the box in which the icon resided since I didn't notice at first :\.
Restarting worked for me. It pops back up at the end of the app drawer. Weird. My buddy with a Note 2 didn't have this problem, so maybe a Sense bug?
Maybe try uninstalling (updates) and then letting it update again?

[Q] Mirroring Maps/Navigation notifications

Would be great if that's possible indeed....
I guess you need to look for an app that shows the directions in the notifications.
I've heared of the new Here navigation app that it shows directions in notifications, but I haven't tried it yet.
Maybe that will help you.
Or, and that's another thought, you need to have a seperate Gear app that interacts with the phone as "server".
Let us know if you have found something, I will search too in the meantime.

I just tried Here on my S5 and it works, but doesn't show directions in notifications (anymore).
I recall I have seen it do that, but now I have the latest beta version and there is absolutely no setting to turn on notifications.
You can download directly to your mobile from this site : http://here.com/beta/android/?lang=en-EN
What OS do you have on your Gear ? Android (Null) or Tizen ?
I have Null_23 on my Gear

Has anyone here used the app CarStream to watch Youtube?

I have wanted to move from my regular android head unit to Android Auto for a while, but some of my favorite things to listen to while driving to work don't have regular podcasts. So I have to watch them on YouTube. If anyone has used this, please let me know if it is working well. I really want to get a higher quality head unit, and this would definitely motivate me to do it. Here is a link to a video example of it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N9AjJW0H93Y

Yes it is working perfectly fine. I've just recently started using it. It also has inbuilt internet browser and u can also watch videos from your device's internal or sd storage. But i prefer using AnyAutoAudio app while driving because its much safer as it plays youtube on the background n u dont get distracted by the video too

"Apr 2018 : Google has blocked all custom apps on Android Auto, hence this app won't work anymore." ((
Someone figured out a solution for this? Like making an Xposed module for the Google services.
I am also interested since, from April, it does not work with my daughter's displeasure anymore
there is a solution for no-root

You can downgrade the Google Play Service to 12.21.
It works. And also using Android Auto v2.95
But I choose mirroring app Android Auto over the carstream.

If you have no root, then you have to re-install the GPS every time its update.
If not, then you won't get the app working.
If you're rooted user, then you can use the lucky patcher in my case and searching for update in GPS and then disable the package.
In my case, I used the following step below based on my experienced:
1. Open LuckyPatcher
2. Tap search box
3. Search for Google Play Services
4. Tap the Google Play Services
5. Choose Menu of Patches then click Yes.
6. Choose change the app components
7. Tap the disable components 'pm disable' method in the first row
8. Then search for update and you can disable:
com.google.android .gms.update.SystemUpdateActivity (in tab Activities)
com.google.android.location.internal.NlpNetworkProviderSettingUpdateReceiver (In tab receiver)
com.google.android.lgms.update.SystemUpdateService
9. Just enjoy it! :good::good:
Already using this for months and no auto update for Google Play Services. But I'm using GPS 12.6.85 with the AA mirror and Android Auto 3.2.58 on rooted devices. And I'm not using the carstream again but using AA mirror and I can play youtube or even all of the apps on my phone in the head unit. FYI the carstream won't work in my version. I haven't tried it though.
Always Have a full functional Backup. Just in case!

NEW method to install GMS on Huawei P40 PRO (29.09.2020)

Maybe something in Battery optimisation or in Apps (Notifications)? Sorry but I don't use notifications for emails....
i dont a gmail notifications. What went wrong?
Just to clarify: notifications are small icons on top of the screen and when you swipe down and you can click on notification bar which gets you go gmail. - if we talk about the same thing, it works using "old" method, at least it does on my P40P+ ELS-N39, 10.1

Just follow the steps from the start of video. You must uninstall your Backup app and paste the Backup files from installation files in to your internal storage with "replace" option when you paste it.
has anyone tried to upgrade the P40 firmware after that?
Are the GMS still working after the upgrade?
tho this process is working even a bit weird when come the part to reboot, etc.. but then all fine.
my FW is .121
I upgraded to 154 after installing gms and no issues so far.
anyone tried to go on EMUI 176 after this GMS installation?
btw, I was quite ok with this GMS install, but in my case, at the beginning Google Maps was taking a very long time before finding my location, quite not usable. Since now few days, maybe a week or two this is as fast as for any normal phones. Maybe explained by an App asking me to upgrade Google Service recently.
Contacts are still not synced and Teams provide no notigication, either for chat or calls which is a bit disapointing...
I'm on 176 no issues so far
Bought P40 Pro today, used this method to install gapps while phone still was on EMUI 10, updated all the way to EMUI 11 (11.0.0.168), working good.
Ahhg mine came with 10 and I let it upgrade to 11 straightaway without realising that would be game over for getting my old aps to work

Is Google forcing an update from Android Auto 6.4?

I use Screen2Auto on an unrooted phone which only seems to work on AA 6.4 or earlier.
Some people have commented that they are being forced to update AA to 6.5.
I had a notification that said something about a required update to AA. I tried to read it but it just took me to the AA update page in the PlayStore.
Are some people being forced to update AA?

I was forced to update now I'm trying to find a workaround.
Yes.
Do not proceed, un-install the latest update of Google Play Services.
If already installed the AA update, so remove the update of play services and re-install the old version of AA from April.
All good.
I uninstalled the latest update of Google Play Services and rolled back Android Auto to version 6.3, but Android Auto will not work unless you hit the update button.
it's not that I'm sitting here wearing a tin foil hat or anything.. but I think we should discuss workaround methods in private messages. Google obviously has some form of eyes watching these forums because everytime a workaround is discussed it magically gets patched not soon after.

I also have a non-root Galaxy S7 (G930V) on Android 8. Uninstalled AA last year as I've been screen mirroring using USB to my BMW MMI (no touch screen). If I now install AA (6.5 from Play Store), then I won't be able to install S2A with AAAD at this point? Should I try to find and load AA 6.4 and attempt the S2A install or wait to see if they'll be an update to S2A and AAAD that works with AA 6.5?

I was incorrect about the Android Auto version on my non-rooted G930V. I'm actually on version 6.3.611324.
I couldn't get my phone to work with AAAD. I installed S2A using ADB per the Automatic method instructions on the inceptive.ru website:

One question about this: does it download app data afterwards during your drive?
Additional question: can you also clear data and cache after being connected to Android Auto? I would prefer a Tasker task to do this for me. The idea is to clear data and cache as soon as I get connected to Android Auto.

Is your tinfoil hat borken? If so, just use the AM/FM radio or cassette player. If you want "free" from Google, you have to pay. Seriously, they make money by trying to target advertising at you.
What do you want to say me?
Tasker is an app which can automize things. For example it can automize the clearing of cache and data.
I wanted to clear data and cache automated so that I don't have to do all the clicks by myself.
I just want to know if I have to program the task to clear data and cache every day or everytime I connect to Android Auto...
