Thanks
However, what is the difference between the models
Update: I rooted the phone and it worked. However, the bootloader unlock option in developer settings is not grayed out (it was when I was installing). Will VaultKeeper mess up if I update the phone

You can't do that with the i537, it has a locked bootloader.
i think i got my bootloader unloacked, when i start my phone up it shows a unlocked lock with the word custom under it or does everyone have that?

That typically happens when you root the phone. Trust me, if you were ever able to unlock your bootloader you would be entitled to thousands of dollars.

The only thing you can do is use SafeStrap which will allow you to boot custom TouchWiz-based ROMs. It is impossible to install any ROM that requires a custom kernel (CyanogenMod, Paranoid Android, AOSP, etc.) on the i537.

I don't think it's important to check that option in developer options. It still could be unlocked.
Or simply download the stock firmware for XT1077 and flash it.

I've XT1079. Are u able to flash custom recovery?
Okay so i have read a few thread posts but all this seems a bit too confusing. Here is the situation. I bought a used S6-G920T which is unlocked as of now, i don't know what method was used to unlock it since i bought it pre unlocked. My sim(Non T-Mobile) is working fine. I am on 5.1.1- BASEBAND: G920TUVU3DOJ7, what i want to do is update to marshmallow, the official OTA isn't really available as it says the system was tampered with. I want to know if it is safe to update to 6.0.1 via odin without losing my unlock. Thanks in advance to anyone who bothered to read through.
BTW as of now i don't have root access.
What do you mean when you say you're unlocked?
You can use Odin to update the phone to newer baseband and bootloader; you can then use Odin to flash TWRP, and install the ROM of your choice.

I am talking about carrier unlock. I currently don't have any carrier restrictions. Will update cause my phone to become relocked?

It shouldn't, no. You should be able to update and still use your phone on the carrier of your choice.

It doesn't matter regardless of what method may have been used to unlock it?
Going to update soon via odin.

What method did you use? I don't imagine it would...of course, if you flash a stock TMobile ROM, some TMobile features may not work on another carrier...

That is the issue I bought it unlocked(used) so no idea what method may have been used. I might just go ahead and update. Thanks for the help.

I'm pretty sure the phone unlock has something to do with the IMEI of the phone being tied to the carrier. If it is unlocked, you should be able to use it on any carrier. It sounds like the process takes place in a special partition that is at the lower levels, like the bootloader, and does not change regardless of what software is used on the phone. I'd say just go for it and update, I can't see any reason why it wouldn't work, even after an Odin flash.
Anyone?

Yes it will lock bootloader only if you have verizon or AT&T N910V/N910A.
On Other models the bootloader will lock just to downgrade to 5.0/4.4.4 if you flash 6.0.1 bootloader.
You won't be able to downgrade.

I'm sorry but you contradicted yourself (makes no sense).

I mean once you upgrade to mashamallow bootloader you cannot downgrade to 5.0 or 4.4.4 because bootloader will lock just to prevent downgrading otherwise no issues with root/roms/recovery.
You can still downgrade to 5.1.1 though.
On at&t and verizon bootloaders are locked for downgrading and flashing recovery/rooting etc.

You've been great help regardless, no problem! It's not that bad
Also - I have a Note 4 from Verizon - is that bootloader unlockable now? I do however have that on 6.0.1 already I think so no?

Link below there is a guide first you have do downgrade to 5.1.1 then upgrade to marshmallow without relock the bootloader.
Once you do that then you can flash any marshmallow rom.
Good luck.

Can I change the rom on the phone if I wanted to without being tied to AT&T? can I download something via odin3 to make it any other ROM other than AT&T? I hope I have NOT confused the issue.
Many thanks for taking the time to answer.

No. You are carrier unlocked so you can use another carriers sim. You are not bootloader unlocked, so no custom recovery or ROMs.
