On my old Galaxy S10 I was able to mute an SMS conversation. (My siblings will sometimes get into a chat convo, lasting hours. And since we're in different time zones, their conversations might occur while I'm sleeping.)
Now that I've got a Galaxy S23+, I'd like to do the same thing. Only, it doesn't appear that I can. Tapping on the 3 vertical bars to the right of the conversation title, I see things like Delete Messages, Search Messages, Notification sound, Category, Customize chat room, Share attachments, and Group Conversation. But I do not see a Mute conversation.
(BTW, what is "Group conversation"? And why is it the only one with a sliding button?)
What app are you using, Google Messages? If so, it can be done:
Open conversation
3-dot menu in upper right - choose Details
choose Notifications
select Silent

Thank you for your response. That is working well.
However, is there a way of also stopping the vibration too? I'm getting that even though I've silenced the messaging group. (Yes, I'm using Google Messsages.)

Hi!
I'm kinda new here so bare with me...
i've searched without any luck to finding the answer to my question...
When someone calls me, the diamond gives me the choice to reject the call and texting the caller with a predefined message...the problem is that i have to actually send the damn message after haning up...wich kinda takes the whole idea away of having the phone doing it...
Now, is there anyway i can make the damn sms get sent without me having to actually click the send button?? just reject the call and let the phone do the job?
Come on, somebody has got to have had the same issue?
Go to Settings.. Phone... Advanced (right at the right hand end) then de-select "Reject call with text message"
i think you misunderstood me, i donĀ“t want to turn off the feature, just make it do the whole procedure and not stop right before the message gets sent.
Uncheck the option to edit the text message, on the advance tab.
Well nobody is understanding what he is saying.
This is a good idea, infact i also wanted to do the same thing.
What we want is that as soon as we reject the call with send text button phone should directly send the message to the caller (with predefined text) without opening the predefined compose messsage and then we click send again to let the sms shoot to the caller.
I think this feature wont be possible with soft reject or hard reject key coz then it will send sms to each and every caller or even to landline caller. There should be other soft key just like "Send Text" soft key where we press it and automatically phone sends the sms to the caller.
Hope i am able to explain.
Regards,
Vishal

updated to 2.2, and i currently have my phone log set to view "all logs"....but that is really annoying since that includes text messaging. There are options for calls made, calls received, and missed calls, but no option for "all calls". I don't want to go into my phone log and see text messages, thats why i go to text messaging. I also don't just want to see calls i made or calls i received, i want to see them all!
am i missing something???

I just noticed this problem today, also. :-/ I mean I think it's fine that they give the option to include texts and stuff, but seems they left out a vital option to just show "all calls" (which should be the default, imo.) Sucks to have to choose between the options of dialed, received, missed, or everythinggg with every text, too.
Hopefully this can be remedied somehow, though

glad i'm not the only one who is bothered by this! i agree completely
same here, it's very frustrating.
Has anyone yet figured out a way to not have the Captivate log every single text and call you make?
It is so annoying to have to hunt all through my phone looking for tracks. Originally I assumed that they could be erased by deleting the thread in messaging. Wrong!
So then go to the contact/history and delete it there. Wrong! There is nothing in the history tab.
So then open the dialer, go to call log and look, every sent and recieved text, mms, and call is logged there as well. Its like a paranoid secret agent designed this system.
And heaven forbid that you installed a second messaging program such as Handcent to log everything all over again.
I currently use Horizon to keep my private texts private, but even that allows the outgoing texts to be logged.
Yes, deleting the thread, then selecting every individual item in the log from the unwanted caller works. Or even deleting the entire call log at once will work. But short of that has anyone come up with a work around for the call logging intrusion?
Found "Not log this call" on the market to auto delete phone calls log (Not free).
For sms you can edit the text message limit and reduce it to 1. This will at least keep 1 text message in store before it gets deleted. But default it's set to 200 msg per conversation and 20 mms per conversation.
Interesting. I looked at that app, I may have to try it.
Did you actually get your message inbox to go to 1? Mine will only go down to 10.
I am currently testing it to see if it erases the call log history as it erases the inbox but I dont think it does.
Ok, so setting the message limit to 10 only deletes the messages, not the logs.
However, while playing with it I found out that by selecting one of the logged entries (text or call) it pulls up a history type page. From there you can select the bottom left soft key, choose delete and then choose select all. I am not sure but I think it only deletes one page at a time or something as it seems to leave a few behind. I am still playing but its a hell of a lot better that trying to select each individual log in the main log screen. Its sort of what you would expect the history tab in the contact screen to do. (especially if you came from WinMo )
I hope someone else finds this helpful. I did a lot of searching and found a lot of complaints about this awful "feature" but no answers. This isnt much of an answer but its seems a bit more tolerable since I figured the history part out.
It also seems to be something Samsung adds as Evo and the Droid don't do it.
Check out HistoryEraser. I think I saw it on Lifehacker a few days ago, supposed to wipe away all your unwanted tracks.
Is there a way to hide [or stop from being recorded] the text message history when looking at the call log?
It seems pretty retarded to see a long list of incoming and outgoing SMS activity in a call log. I would like mine to show calls only. If I want to look at messages I would have opened Messaging no?
You can press the menu button then press "view by" then select one of the options.
You can only select one at a time which I take you're not looking for?
I would imagine someone would have to mod it or use another app to replace it?

Fully aware of the useless filter options.
I want some tick boxes to tell it what to show not a radio button for predetermined options that are not the one I want. Like on the selection of what shows in my contact list....
Do the guys who write touch wiz use a phone?
I guess this doesnt seem to bother anyone else?
Is this a standard android "feature" or a unique error in touchwiz?

Don't use the logs tab, use the history tab in contacts, use the menu button to select what you want displayed, untick what you don't want. Sadly it doesn't seem to affect the logs tab but it's the best you can do for now.
In notification's (mail, sms, whatsapp) there is no reply button to use a message template, S Voice or emoticons.
Only 'show on device' and 'delete' when you tab the button at the right high corner of the screen.
At the end of the message only 'show on device'.
Any suggestions please?

I havent seen a reply option for anything except SMS. The best option it seems is to turn on "Smart Relay" which in essence, if you are looking at a notification on your watch, and pick up your phone, your phone will automatically show the relevant item. This requires "Motion" to be turned on on the phone, i have a note 3.
Are you using Hangouts or Gmail? You can only use Samsung native apps in order to reply. I refuse to use the email application so I just get gmail notifications without ability to reply.
