Did you have your phone plugged in to a USB charger at the time? Was it the stock charger?
no, it doesnt happen jus when its chargin, it happens randomly, an no its not a stock charger, but i dont see what that would have to do with the screen goin crazy pushing everythin

Well, I would suggest that you try reverting back to using the stock charger for a few days and see if that helps. Using other chargers (esp from ebay) can cause similar effects on the Milestone/Droid due to voltage variances.
ill give it a try, an let you know what happens, thing is i bought the phone alone with no stock charger, so im gonna have to check on ebay for a stock one, but thanks again

Well, try buying a stock one from an authorized Motorola dealer. Every since I purchased one on ebay, I always make sure my Moto chargers come in a sealed, hard plastic, package in attempt to improve authenticity (However, I'm not sure how much that buys me).
Good luck.
I get this same issue.
Unplugged or not, on various roms from stock to motofrenzy.
sometimes the screen will just become really crazy.
If i open a webpage and just hold my finger on the screen in one place it will zoom in scroll up and down, all sorts.
I verified what was happening by downloading Multitouch visualiser 2 from the Market.
A reboot always fixes the problem
Its kinda frustrating, because i know that Moto just direct you to the place of purchase and i was not the original purchaser, so i have no chance of a warranty repair.
yeah ive tried everything, its driving me up the wall, its been like this for the last 30 hours,an i cant even use the phone, this is the worst it been, it usually goes away after 5 to 6 hours , but now its jus gone crazy, an ive restarted an removed the battery countless of times
but burko, are you using a sock wall charger or a ebay or differant brand wall charger.thanks

could you tell me how much the out put of volts an amps the motorola milestone wall charger is, thanks
I actually use a BlackBerry charger, as i assumed Micro-Usb would be the same for all manufactures, but as above, it does start the screen going mad, as soon as i unplug it, it stops!
Ill see if i can make it go mad without being plugged in!
Good shout Knowthenazz!
That happened with me, when the temperature degree outside is very high, I live in region the degree reach to 48degree, my phone screen goes crazy, so I think your charger make your phone very hot, so the sensitivity of your screen begin not work properly. I'm note sure, just want to share my idea.
Thanks,
well its been about 4-5 days already, an my phones touch screen still goin crazy, i thought maybe id go back, like the other times, but this time seems permanent an its extremely depressing thinkin about it cus i jus got it like a week and a half ago off a guy.ive tried countless of chargers, even my bros motorola backflip charger, an nothin. so im gonna assume its permanently gone. i would switch the digitizer but thats gonna cost money an might jus lose the entire phone, so im jus gonna throw it back on ebay an go back to my htc hero an jus wait for the milestone 2 to come out. but if anyone does find a solution please post it here. thx everyone R.I.P. All chargers using the micro USB spec should be the exact same voltage (and different current ratings depending on the charger, although different current values shouldn't affect your screen at all). I suspect that the voltages are very close, if not generally the same, but, the voltage may slightly fluctuate (or ripple) over time, which I believe may be causing the issue. The better quality the charger, the more constant the voltage.
If I were you I'd purchase an authentic Motorola Micro USB charger, and call it a day.

Not sure if this is true, but, I heard that most Motorola chargers work on Blackberry units, but, the converse isn't always the case.

Glad things are returning back to normal for you with regards to the screen.
Not sure what's going on with your back button though. Hope it works itself out for you.

Go to a service center asap!
Dude, use your warranty. Take it to a service center.
Mine happened the same, and I decided to send it back to motorola and just got it back yesterday.
They replaced the glass screen and the frame which surrounds the glass.
It seems they removed that plastic from behind the screen on the slider, or also replaced the slider module.
I'd guess it might be a known issue for motorola, because my phone had scratches on the glass, plus a small crack on the screen ( yeah, I know, it's gorilla glass, but I'm an orc with mobiles ), the metal frame was all dented, and they replaced it anyway, when they could just said "this is misuse, it's failing because you drop it several times, go buy another one"
I already had this issue a few months before, it got better and I decided to keep on, and then it started again and got unusable, so don't get excited about it getting better, because probably will eventually start failing again.

thing is i bought it off anothere guy, an he was a phone dealer an it was given to him as a gift from motorola, an like it had no papers or charger or service carrier, jus the phone alone straight form hong kong. an yeah couple hours later my screen went crazy again, so its on ebay atm lol, but thanks anyways
It happened with me too. Somebody told me that was cause by sweat. So i took it to service center.
started happening to me yesterday, anyone know a fix yet?
About a week ago my D4 started to randomly shut off. Opening the keyboard, using Dolphin, or just sitting in my pocket. I am unable to turn it back on without plugging it in to a charger, like it needs a jump or something. Once it fires back up, it says I have plenty of battery. The only other thing I see is when I plug it in but don't turn it on, it says it has 0-5% battery. It is rooted with safestrap and Eclipse installed but I've been running the stock version because some things weren't working quite right in Eclipse. Iv'e seen some posts say it could be a battery problem. Others say to factory reset or SBF. I'm going to give these a try but does anyone else have any ideas? I bought it off ebay a month ago and I'm worried they might not honor the warranty being purchased second hand. Luckily I still hadn't sold my trusty D3, but I dowant to get the D4 back in operation.
I've seen this problem with a few other of my older keyboard phones and it was always a hardware issue. I bet a ribbon has pressure applied to it so that the system briefly doesn't detect a battery...

I figured something like that. Weird thing is every once in a while if I plug it in to the charger it will show 5% battery, then go up to 10% after about 20 minutes, then suddenly shoot up to 100%. The phone would work fine off the charger for about a half hour then die, rinse and repeat. So it is charging but only like 5% then it will show 100%. I'm probably just going to bring it in and hopefully get a replacement.
Well I ended up calling Verizon and they are going to send a replacement, no questions asked. Apparently it doesnt matter if you bought the phone second hand, they will still honor the warranty (or I got just the right CSR). Case closed.
Really? They told me to f* off last time I called about warranty off a phone from cl... lol
I was guessing they were going to tell me to F off as well since most people were saying that's what they do when you try to get a warranty replacement on a second hand phone. It was literally the best experience I've ever had calling any customer service line. Told him my phone wouldn't stay on, he said he was going to talk to an engineer, next thing I know he's asking for my address. Win!
interesting.. will call tomorrow (my earpiece speaker crackles) >_>
Just got to get the right person to answer. My guy actually sounded like he was based in the US, not Kazakhstan. I told the person on the phone my story and that I had already gone to an authorized retailer (which I did) and that my phone wouldnt stay on. Put me on hold for a minute, came back and said were going to get a warranty replacement out. What may have helped is that I had my D3 active on my line and D4 was deactivated, so maybe they couldnt look up the info that would flag it as not from original buyer.

Mine does this too. Not all the time, just enough to irritate me. I've been putting off calling in to get a replacement because I'm worried whatever they send me will have more problems than just a crackling ear piece.

Whoops forgot to update. New phone definitely has less crackle. Old one was very noticeable, new one has little to no crackle. Only thing was it wasn't updated when I got it, had to manually go in and have it update to 219. I don't use the rear speaker very often but I don't remember it having a cracking sound. All in all there are no issues with it
Hey Guys,
I have been searching for hours now and cannot find anyone having the same or similar issues with the One as me
and I am really becoming desperate..
So, the problem is that I cannot charge the phone anymore, whenever I try to do so the battery symbol becomes grey with an exclamation mark.
I have no clue what the reasons for this are and why it occurs, also this is the second time now that this happens to me.
I have already sent it to the repair service 3 days after I bought the phone, this time it lasted around 3 weeks until it happened again.
So far I am loving the phone and its features, but this problem is driving me mad, any help would be appreciated!
Edit: it ran out of battery and now I can neither turn it on nor is it charging

Yeah it's bad. Too weird. You are not alone a couple other people are having this issue just this morning. Like four or so ONES decided they would all just say goodbye at the same time. It's odd as I have not seen any other problems like this until this morning.
Guessing this is a DEV edition or you can't go to a carrier and have to go through HTC? If so make sure to tell them this device has already been in before for the same problem and at this point you want a new device not this defective one.

Hi everybody,
I was (am?) running CM 10.1 for a couple days just to see how it was, and it was nice. I was going to make it my daily driver until I got a call while the phone was in my pocket and suddenly, the ringing stopped. I took the phone out of my pocket and tried to unlock it. No cigar. It must have powered off. Pressed and held. Nothing. Bootloader? Nope. Try under the halogen work lamp. Nope. No charging light, no splash screen, nothing. Just a brick.
How is it possible for the phone to just brick itself like that? I remember setting the max clocking speed at 1.5ghz and the governor to "conservative" but that's really it. Plus I had rebooted a couple of times between then and now. I ddon't have many apps, let alone many that have root access. So what's up?
Please help me. I give my battery 15 maybe 24 hours before it dies and I can't boot.
Oh yeah. I don't have S-off, I got my version of CM from get.cm, no custom kernel, or any mod of any sort. The phone was not actively doing anything, except for sitting in my pocket. I held the power button and the power + volume for a good 20-30 seconds.
EDIT: Is my only option to play dumb and ask for warranty? D': I don't want to do that because the rep who traded in my GS2 noticed that it was rooted. I'll probably get denied.
Seriously, anybody? What are my options? What caused this? Is it my fault?
I wish I had some insight on why that happened to you or how to fix it. What I can say is that I was thinking about flashing my first AOSP rom in the near future but was iffy on it. Now I'm super iffy.
I suppose there is a possibility that it was not software related. Maybe the phone is just a clunker? Hopefully someone more knowledgeable than myself can comment.
try posting this in the CM 10.1 forums and you will get a result. sorry.

That's a possibility, and what I'm thinking too. Surely someone would have noticed if their phones blew up when they received a call right? The phone wasn't doing anything I hadn't done before (i.e. receiving calls).
You think Sprint will replace it? It's pretty much mint other than the software.
And there is no HTC One Cyanogenmod forum yet.
EDIT: So is it safe for me to go to the store and tell them it crapped out on me? Will they be able to tell that I rooted it?
Have you tried using the HTC charger that came with the phone and letting it charge for for an hour? If the phone got completely discharged it may take up to 10 minutes just to lite up/

First off, Lithium ion batteries do not completely discharge, ever. If they do, they are ruined. Your phone will turn off before it lets the battery drain.
Second, I had at least 80% charge left when it bricked this morning. But what the heck, might as well.
EDIT: Wow. I googled hard bricks and pretty much every case is some kind of update or flash gone wrong. Nobody was just walking around when their phone bricked. This is weird. Considering how rare hard bricks are and the fact that the only apps with root access I had were Ti, File Manager, Spirit and Nova, I'm inclined to believe this is a hardware issue. But I can't be sure.
Bumping. I only have a little while before my charge runs out.
Hmmm, do you know, or have an idea what the battery life was when the incident occurred?
==
EDIT: Oh I see...
I unplugged it about 3 maybe 4 hours before it bricked. It had maybe an hour of screen time then. I'm assuming I had around 80% when it bricked. I have no idea how much power the device is currently consuming. But if it's truly bricked, prolly not much, so it'll last for a while.
If it isn't truly bricked, then probably not that long...
Guys, I'm desperate. I'll try absolutely anything.
All right, it seems like I'm done. This device is toast. Even though it seems like I didn't make any mistakes. I know that almost for sure because my phone was ringing when it bricked at 12:36 P.M. today.
Based on what I've said, does anybody think I am COMPLETELY to blame for this? I don't want my conscience to eat me alive when I take this is for warranty and play dumb. I truly believe this has nothing to do with rooting/custom ROM. I really believe this is a defective phone. Am I wrong?

i knew there was something going on here, between cm10.1 and the sprint htc one ? sure makes me wonder, i've been on my replacement for nearly 2 weeks now running stock rooted with s-off. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2310750
Ok I just read your thread and was wondering. did you get your 150 back?
Either you and I are incredibly unlucky or the m7spr cm 10.1 is suicidal.
Just a question. in general, what setting were you using? Anything similar to mine? I had also set notification light to "long". how about you?

I was told I would be refunded on my next bill so i'm waiting it out to see before I send back the bricked one. no i was stock-cm and what I mean by that is i installed cm10.1 added my apps, set up my home screens and used it like that until it died. i changed nor tweaked any of the settings from cm defaults
The same thing happened to my room mates HTC One yesteray. I first installed CM, and it was getting extremely hot, so I decided to try rootbox, similar issue, and the device was discharging far too fast. He turned the phone off to wait for me to get home so I could try to fix it. I got home, and there was no sign of life, it was charged fully before he turned it off. It wouldn't turn on at all. I had him take it to sprint and do warranty, they said they needed to open it(LAWL). He went back an hour later, they couldn't open it of course. They handed him a new phone.
Have you tried plugging it into a pc to see if it recognizes anything in device manager? Checked adb devices and fastboot devices?
I have. And nothing. No charge no power no recognizing

My first One worked perfectly for 2 months. Then it got stolen. On the 3rd of august I bought a new one and it got replaced three times because one had a huge scratch on the screen ( I unboxed it right there at the store so the employee directly gave me another one) and the second shut down randomly! How can something like this happen?
So I got my third(!) HTC One today. I unpacked it and it just doesn't turn on. I thought maybe the battery is low (even though that should not be the case because li-po batteries should be stored at about half charge ) But even after charging it for an hour where it does only blink with the red LED it does not turn on.
Any ideas or should I just go back to the market and directly demand a replacement.
And I really can't trust the One anymore... It's hands down the most beatiful phone with awesome specs. But what if I can't make that call in a dangerous situation because HTC has no QC?

Should not have damaged the battery, no, lithium polymer battery should be fine. Good luck
I've had 3 One's aswell, and none of them had any software/hardware problems. I replaced them because of cosmetic issues. Sadly for me, I bought the Developer Edition and replacement of these is done through the worst company ever LetsTalk. In order to expedite the process, I had to do a "cross shipment" where I would pay the value of two phones and have a phone sent by them without returning mine first. Had to do two cross shipments because 2nd phone also had cosmetic problems and instead of them refunding me back two cross shipment values of 1299 each, they just refunded me two phone values... had to get my bank involved to get my money back.
Wow. Just wow. Maybe I was just lucky that my Desire HD was perfect. Funny thing is: How can HTC expect me to pay for a phone on August 3rd but til today I do not have the product for which I payed. This is ridiculous. I'm going on vacation on Wednesday and I can't take my phone for which I payed 18 days before because it's in repair for 2 - 3 weeks. Great... I always recommended HTC to my friends because of my Desire HD but I think everybody should skip the One. The chance of getting one that is looking okay and working is really not that high as it seems. For me it's a 1 out of 4. Get your QC done, HTC.

Seriously HTC?
My new one has the worst screen of all my Ones til now, but it does power on. Also there are some huge gaps between the speaker grills and the plastic band. No problem for me though, and they won't give me another replacement. So I'll have to live with it. Installing ARHD now, thread can be closed.
