Hi Guys
My Samsung M20 phone is stuck in safe mode. It has been 3 years since I bought this phone and because of that, I think the power button is not working. Also since the phone is stuck the screen controls are not working. But before this problem occurred the power button worked very well. I followed some guidelines and tried everything I could to fix this problem. But still, I cannot change the mode to the regular one. To fix this I did,
01. Pressed and held the power button for over a minute, but the option didn’t pop up. (Seems that the button is not working or something else)
02. Screen is not responding to touch.
03. Since the power button is not responding I cannot use the physical method to turn off the safe mode.
I am planning to take this phone to a repair shop. Is there anything I can do from my end to fix this other than going to a repair shop? (I am afraid to let the phone off because of the malfunctioning power button)

Ive discovered this by accident but while the phone is in standby modus and and the screen is locked, when you press the powerbutton for ~5sec the phone reboots.
In my opinion the "reboot" function mapped to the power button should only be working when the phone is screen unlocked.
Is this a samsung or android thingy?
what do you mean by stand by mode ? when screen is off and not being used ? this doesnt happen on my device...
just dont press the power button for 5 seconds and hey presto !!! job done lol
isn' tthis good feature?
It may help a little when
a. not able to 'wake-up' a sleeping phone
b. upon waking-up , force close message keeps on appearing
In b, i have to take out battery and when using my case-mate barely there cover, it's inconvenient to pry it open.
oops.. I didn't answer your actual question.
Sorry, dunno if this is Samsung thingie or Android thingie. But I can "reproduce" the effect on my phone.
It's not reboot though - it goes to "switch off" mode

mine comes up with a message to shut down the phone or enter flight mode or silent mode or data network mode if you hold down the power button for 5 secs in stand by mode.
If your not getting that message first its possible that your firmware is faulty or if its not a stock firmware it may have not been added correctly.
same here i get message.. stock jpy with speedmod kernel
No i meant like for example you put the phone in your pocket like you normally do and the powerbutton gets pressed for ~5sec while your bent down or another position the button gets pressed it would reboot. Im not really happy with that happening would you.
Im on stock js3 onlything i mod was putting the voodoo kernel on it.
Its a good thing
You'll be happy when the phone freezes and you don't need to take it apart to reboot it (pull battery)... Its just like a power button on a PC, if you hold it long enough it shuts the device down. I've never done it by accident though. Just get a $.99 plastic case and your problem will be gone but you'll still have the feature.

Hey guys, I got my Incredible S a while ago. It's a splendid phone. My dad gave it tome as a gift, he bought it from Singapore. I rooted and installed many roms over the course of having it. Up until today I was using the Revolutionary 2.3.0 rom. I was browsing a Diablo 3 app on the phone when suddenly my volume down button (without me pressing it) began to function on its own. I was like "Ok, just restart the phone, probably something bugged." After the restart nothing happened for a while until after 3 minutes its started vibrating in Vibrate mode (Displaying the volume rocker on-screen) I decided to change roms since I have some .zips laying around. I installed MIUI 2.1.16 (a fairly old version I know for certain is working) Still, the issue persisted and after another restart I cannot get past Hboot. My phone is stuck in Hboot cycling the options on its own (without entering them). All my other keys function perfectly except the media button. If anyone has experienced similar issues I'd love to hear some feedback. I've also searched other threads on here, NOTHING found so far.
Cheers,

Take the back cover off and examine the actual hardware button that sits under the rocker switch. Perhaps it is stuck in the down position. See it you can get it to pop back up.
That was the first thing I did, the key is not stuck and I can freely press it. As a last resort I can send it to a local service shop but I'd like to see if I can manage this at home first. =)
Ok, fast update: by pressing the Volume UP button while pressing the Power button I managed to boot my phone into the rom itself. Now the Volume Down button does not function at all. I'll just run it through a local service shop and see if they can fix it. I was looking to buy a new phone anyways. Might keep this one as for my other carrier's sim card. =)
I've had my phone almost a week now. Last night the screen stopped turning on. I can hear notifications telling me the phone is on, just not the screen. I did a google search and saw similar problems on the N4 and N5. I have tried there methods now over 100 times and still no success. I am holding POWER + VOLUME-DOWN for 15-20 seconds then plugging in USB port but this in a number of variations is not working. Is anyone else having this problem and do you know of a fix for this?
Phone is not rooted if that helps.
Make sure you still have battery (plug it into the wall) then hold down volume up+volume down+power until you get into the bootloader.. From there you can flash factory images or try going into recovery (use volume up to scroll to recovery mode) and do a factory reset. Once in recovery you will need to hold down the power button and tap the volume up button once to bring up the menu for factory reset.
tried that, no luck since the screen doesnt turn on. any other ideas?
you got a sod(sleep of death). the only way around this is to press the power button for 20-25 seconds straight, then reboot. or, there a possibility that your screen stopped working.
Have you tried plugging it into the computer and giving it adb commands to boot into BL?
I wonder if this is an issue with Android in general on rare occasions since KitKat. I had this problem too on my LG G2
yeah, i tried all of these methods and gave up. at&t gave me a new one since i was under 14 days. the lady said they had a whole batch of n6 they had to ship back because of problems and that the newest batch "should" be problem free.
Dear Xiaomi Mi3 users,
I'm sorry if this question has been asked before.
Basically my touch screen is totally cracked and unresponsive. I need to replace my screen. I ordered a screen and repair kit from China, and it has arrived. However the instructions say that I should switch off my phone before attempting to replace the screen. The problem is, the screened is cracked and I can't press any buttons. Holding the power button for a long time simply reboots my phone, it doesn't shut it down.
What should I do???
Thanks!!

1) when your phone reboots at that time press the volume up button , the phone will enter into recovery mode and from there you can turn of your phone without even touching your screen
2) you can plug in a PC Mouse t your phone sing a OTG cable and can access all the functions without touching the screen

After restarting, when you see the MI LOGO, hold power & volume down button, it will execute the fastboot and just wait for a second your phone will automatically shuts off.

Is it not "Volume Up" and "Power Button"? iso just "Volume Up" button.
I just had to do this too.
Hold power button for ten seconds to reboot.
Immediately switch to power + volume up to get to fastboot
But the fastboot screen does not automatically shut down. And holding down the power button for ten seconds reboots again. And because of my broken screen, i can't see the fastboot menu.
In the end I plugged it into a computer, installed adb, and did adb shell and adb reboot -p (-p for poweroff)
Now, back to replacing my screen, being very careful not to press the power button this time.
Hi,
Today I had the same problem. Xiaomi Redmi 4x with broken screnn and I could not shut it down to replace its display. After a few tries I found the solution.
Just press Power button and Volume Down and DON'T RELEASE THEM UNTIL THE SMARTPHONE IS COMPLETLEY SHUTDOWN. After about 8 seconds the smartphone will reset . Don't release the Power and Volume Down buttons , wait and the smartphone will boot again in another mode. Continue to keep both buttons pressed and after about 10-15 seconds it will really shutdown.
Good luck!
Hello!
Not later than this morning I realized a problem on my Idol 4. At random moments it restarts. When it is on the screen of starting up it continues to restart in a loop. I came to the conclusion that it is a problem with the power button because when I press the volume buttons to enter download mode or even recovery, it quit the download mode (which is done by pressing power) and select options automatically in recovery (which also done by pressing power). So when it restarts I just press the power button randomly, try to pull it out of the phone and then it stops restarting. But again, minutes later it restarts... The button seems not broken or anything that kind but maybe it's in the inside ?
So just questionning how can I fix this.
Thank you a lot !
I think you can just pop the screen off and buy a replacement the idol three was pretty easy to replace. No special tools just used my nails
