eSim in Pixel 4XL? - Google Pixel 4 XL Questions & Answers

So my wife and I are sending our daughter southern England, this summer, to spend i with her Nana (lucky kid) and I've got a question regarding eSims.
So instead of buying her a superduty, nifty-nifty cellphone (she's 9... What 9 yo needs an iPhone for *^%^ sake?), another parent from her class suggested we just pick up some rando device and go from there (thus, essentially a tosser telly).
What we found WAS some rando, rebranded device, but it IDs as AOS 8.1 (armv7), and Pixel 4XL. Coild've done worse, yeah?
So now we get to the crux of the biscuit: How can I get her an eSim for the device, for doing chatting, FB, Google Voice, etc? Is 5here some info I need to supply the telco for this?
I do have a couple of months, so not a dragger, but still...
Thanks a tonne!

Samsung UK Returns

Hi all,
Just wanted to give you a heads up as I'm not sure if anyone else has done this yet. I decided to exchange my note 4 due to the lag, poor battery life as well as other things. What I was hoping would be an easy process is already trying my patience. First you have to call the Samsung E store - not a problem, discussed my issues and they agreed to do an exchange. They won't send out a new phone until the receive the old one, which considering this is my only phone that kinda leaves me at a loss, I mentioned that we had a Samsung experience store in Cardiff and they said they will do the exchange there. Off I pop to Cardiff to be confronted by a confused employee saying that they shouldn't have sent me down here, as the experience store is nothing more then a re-branded Carphone Warehouse store and only if I bought the phone through them could they exchange it.
So off it goes in the post where Samsung said it shouldn't take no more then 5 business days to turn it around. Two days after sending the phone in I gave them a call, after being on hold for 30 minutes I was told they had no record of an exchange on my account and they would have to now escalate this to their head office but they don't know how long this will take - despite me having a returns number.
Frustrated with that answer I reached out to Samsung support on twitter, only to be told that if an exchange is being done it can take 14 business days....
This is my first experience with Android and Samsung in many years as I was an avid ios user and whilst I'm keen to get my Note 4 back, I have to give Apple credit where it's due walk into a store, they diagnose it and if needs be give you a replacement or spare there and then for you carry on.
So annoyed and disappointed.
Thanks for sharing.
I've had a Samsung Note 2 and Note 3 and thought they were both very good, but I'm not going to bother buying my Note 4 from Samsung online (and we don't have a store anywhere near here!).
I had a much better experience in Germany when my Note 10.1 (2014) had a sudden black screen (wire broke/disconnected).
I contacted Samsung by email at the weekend, they replied to send it in which I did on the following Monday and received it back (repaired) the same week on Friday. I could track the status of the repair online.
This was really quick.
Sadly there's no way to track it here in the UK, although we have a tracking portal it says our returns number should begin with a 4, mine begins with a 6.
I kinda wish I bought it instore now say through Carphone Warehouse so at least I could just walk into a store and walkout with another phone. I'm stuck now without a phone for 5 business days and it's killing me due to me using it for 60% work and 40% personal.
But at least this is a heads up for anyone who's ordered it online through the website.

Buying a sim free Note 4 from a local retailer so that you can try it and return it is impossible in Scotland as there are no Samsung experience stores or any retailers prepared to sell one. Plenty available on contract though, very disappointing.

Not even Carphone Warehouse?
Well my order is now showing order processing and I've had it confirmed, if you send it back for an exchange or a replacement etc they have 14 business days to get it back to you....
Unreal.

I hate to burst your bubble buddy but you jumped the gun. All these issues are software related and not hardware. You just wasted all your time driving around to wherever you did in the UK for no reason.

I wouldn't be too sure. Terrible lag loading up recent apps? Lag on touch input? Poor benchmark scores? Battery life gone in 6 hours? EG. I lost 10% battery just driving and the phone was in my pocket (30 minute car journey) Even after a factory reset? No, that tells me it's something hardware related, at least several members here agreed it was hardware related. Otherwise surely a lot more users would be experiencing the same issues, where as only a handful of units seem to be displaying these issues, however my phone was displaying all sorts of issues.
Driving to the Samsung store I agree was a wasted journey (however Samsung CS did say go down)however I'd much rather try and get it exchanged within the 28 day period as opposed to outside, otherwise my phone would have to be sent off for 'repair' and we all now that can be very hit and miss.

Was at the T-MOBILE store when...

I was at the T-MOBILE store today in NY inquiring about the S7 edge when a gentle walked in and asked if they were still selling the note 7. To my surprise the employee said yes. She did tell him to not let it charge past 60% and if it feels like it's over heating that he can bring it in and exchange if for another phone.
I wanted to get the note 7 but amid this disaster regarding the second recall I thought it was irresponsible for T-Mobile to sell any more of them. Have we been so brainwashed by the media that the battery exploding is only happening to a small percentage of the note 7 out in the wild. When he asked and she said yes, I'll admit I was tempted to see if I could be one of the lucky ones to get a non defective note 7 bit then i came back to reality and said the headache is not worth the reward.
What gives T-MOBILE and why don't you have the damn pixel in your store? You know sometimes I wonder! It would've been a perfect landing spot regardless of what happened to the note 7!

That T-Mobile employee was probably just an overworked, underpaid, and uninformed sales clerk. He/she could care less if you got a Note 7 or not.
The Pixel is a Verizon "exclusive". That's how the carrier system works in the US and it sucks. The rest of the world has electronic stores like Best Buy or OEM stores like Apple/Samsung/Microsoft where you can get your phones without dealing with carriers. You just buy a SIM of whichever carrier you want and pop a sim in, or you go into a carrier store to get your line, and they have no way to dictate to you what phones you can use.
Your probably right about there clerk but I hope the person who wanted is aware of what's happening, how could he not be. Also, I know I can take a Google purchased pixel and use it at T-MOBILE but it just seemed like the logical carrier that it should be on given how rapidly TMo has grow in the last few years. So would tmo sell the now 7 if someone wanted it? Would there be support for it?

This ^&%$$%^ sucks man. Really sucks. I love my Note 7 but at this point I now feel I no longer have a choice now but to return it. Just heard the news about the DOT that there is a full ban now. You can be jailed and even fined now for trying to travel with it

The pixel appears to be a tesla exclusive in Australia. Also you can buy unlocked phones at Best buy stateside. Or Amazon, or eBay, or expansys usa, the list goes on.

The note 7 isn't for sale, did you see the purchase from beginning to end?
That sales person seems like an idiot because the Note 7 has been a huge goat rope for every carrier, if they don't know by now they shouldn't be selling it they might need a new line of work.
I did not see the sale I was just listening. I don't know if it happened to be honest with you.

I've only been on T-Mobile for a couple of months but I don't see any history of them carrying the Nexus phones.

They carried the nexus 4. Also charged 150 more than the Google play store but you could pay on installments

I read somewhere recently where the exclusive Verizon has to the Pixel may be short lived. I don't know that's because Google sees an opening with the Note 7 debacle to get their phone a broader customer base or whether that was part of the original agreement.
I'm keeping my Note 7 until at least the V20 comes out. It's the closest thing feature wise to the Note 7. I'd go Pixel in a New York minute if it had SD card capability.
Yeah I think I'm going with the V20. I just don't see the justification on spending $900 on the pixel right now. I'm going to wait for the 2nd pixel. Maybe TMo will cough up the loot to get it in there stores.

Yeah im still pondering on the Pixel but the new name doesn't fool me. Never been super happy with Nexus batteries or cameras and every nexus phone had the best camera ever if you asked Google. Much like they are saying with the Pixel now.
Problem is unless you preorder you have to buy the 120 vr. I also need Wi-Fi calling at home :-/
I'd give up my card for a 128gb phone. I'm interested in the battery on the LG though.

I've got over 128 GB of music on that free 256 GB card that I got with the Note 7. With the V20 and it's supposed audio quality, I could load more .flac music up.
Then again, I could keep the S7 Edge they sent me as a loaner for the first recall. It shows as paid up on the T-Mobile website. It would work with the VR I claimed as part of that deal. Then again, I don't have the morals of an alley cat.

Might as well get an iPhone, they're doing the same thing: Charging too much (price) for too little (features). No way I'm buying that crap!

Yeah man, I'm looking at what is offered and for that price I got so much more on the N7 and it's depressing. Also why the hell would you only offer 32 and 128gb.
The price makes it very hard to justify.

Sprint total equipment protection problem

The microphone on my Nexus 6 is dead, people can't hear me during calls unless I am on speakerphone or Bluetooth. I'm trying to get a replacement/refurbished phone to get me by until the new pixel devices are released. On the asurion website there is no option for Nexus 6 or xt1103 as a replacement and I am having trouble getting in touch with an actual representative of asurion. My question is how is everybody here getting refurbed Nexus 6's? Asurion has me listed as owning a Moto fire xt, which is a device that was released in 2011. I don't want to start a claim until I have confirmation that I will be receiving an actual Nexus 6. Thanks!

I have gone straight through Sprint, escalating to the retention department if necessary. The first tier people at Sprint have little authority and in my experience, little knowledge.
I have gotten push back from Sprint people before, and my argument always is; you sell the service, you help solve the problem ?

[RANT]Yup, My wife and I are about to jump ship on Sprint because of this type of thing (we already have another issue being escalated right now concerning a GS5 that we haven't used since January, and the 24 month payment period was over in February, yet the payment is still on the bill). First, it takes quite a bit of work to be able to talk to an actual person at customer care. Then when that person A) doesn't understand the problem and keeps telling me I am eligible for upgrade, B) They do understand the issue, but are unwilling to help in any way, or C) they simply cant help. Then it needs to be escalated, it is exhausting. I spent 2 hours on the line with them yesterday concerning that GS5 that has been collecting dust since January because the wife bought a Pixel outright.[/RANT]
The reps at the store were adamant that I needed to deal with this through the insurance company. Then I go to Asurion's site to find out that I have been paying insurance premiums on a device that potentially wont get replaced. Then proceed to call Asurion only to be greeted by the automated voice system which will surely be a pain in the ass to get to an actual representative to get this sorted out. All I want is to be provided a service that I have been paying for for 2.5 years now, and it not be a hassle. I cant wait to buy my phone outright from the play store and get device protection from google..

I thought I'd share that while it took me a bit to decide to leave sprint (been a customer since the early 90s ?), it's the best thing I could have done. Now a TMO customer. My data speeds have improved by a factor of 100! My cost is down 100$/mo, and I added two unlimited data SIMs.
My two numbers are ported within 2 hours, but that's because of TMO. Sprint worked hard at making everything hard as possible to me. The service reps were rude as heck.
I encourage others to make a jump. I don't miss sprint at all.

I thought everyone would just like to know this is store policy for Samsung.

I happened to be walking through a parking lot at a local auto dismantler and found somebody's phone ran over and sort of half-assed smashed. I picked it up and spent 3 days contacting Samsung and Google security Center trying to get them to forward this girl my contact information so that she could retrieve her phone. I went in to talk to someone at the Samsung help center here in my town and my best friend's little brother happened to be working behind the counter and told me that when Someone turns in a lost phone to them they do not give them back to the owners all they do is throw them into a recycle box and repurpose them. And before you call my character into question just know that I'm 52 years old I do not have a police record and my father is the retired fire Chief of the Sacramento California fire department just for reference. I wonder how many times my lost phone was turned in and never reported to me? Pissed off and phoneless..
He said they don't even check to see if the phone was insured or not they don't even
A.ctually the store profits off of the phones that are turned in to their lost and found because they just refurbish them and resell them. the least these sumbitches could do would be to download the information off of the phone and shoot it to the owner in a packet or something. but then I guess that would be admitting that they had possession of the phone and then they would be liable for reimbursing the customer or whatever... freakin jerks! and he said that was the policy at every store that he ever work for which is several I guess because he trains managers. I'm just ranting because I have spent so much money on cell phones it is unbelievably ridiculous. it makes me want to go tear down one of their fake tree cell towerS

Just imagine the cost those companies will incur if they were to contact every single person that losses his/her phone plus the cost for shipping...
Not happy with what they do with the phones but kind of make sense, no?
Ehh kinda but for the 800 dollars (plus the over the top cost of phone service every month.) she spent on her phone you would think they could give her some consideration. Even if it cost them over night shipping its still far below 800 dollars. =.)
Thanks for the tip, I didn't know that. I'm in Sacramento too, have lived here for 30 years. I hate that its becoming such a greedy, step-on-your-face place

Question T-Mobile S21 Ultra BL Unlockable with Carrier Lock?

Today devices are either hit or miss, with being able to UNLOCK the Bootloader when a device is Carrier Locked, YES! we all know they are different things. Pixel 4XL from T-Mobile took me (7) Upgrades and Returned if they wouldnt whitelist the imei. I jumped through hopes and it should have been them doing the jumpin. My 7th and Final shot at getting a Carrier Locked Pixel 4XL with 100% owed on the lease. That day cam and i almost said fukc-it, i aint even gonna bother, so it sat in the UPS box, not yet activated or opended. I got the right fukcin guy at Care who whitelisted the Pixel while it was still in thtivie shipping box not yet on my account. He almost whitelisted Pixel 4XL number 6 cuase it was activate on the account at that time. All the hours and time i spent fighting with corporate suites over illegal policies and it took the Rep min before i was able to push Permenant UNLOCK.
I know Samsung has gotten a lot trickster which is why i steamed away to many other Android Devices. I just ordered the 21 Ultra and got it for FREE when trading in me $88 Google Pixel 4a! I am hoping i do NOT have to carrier Unlock the S21 to BL Unlock. If so i might have to exchange for OnePlus 9 PRO where i am almost posive i can UNLCOCK the BL on the OnePlus Devices while Carrier Lock is implemented.
My main reason for going for the 21 Ultra is definitely the camera quality because i take a lot of photos for my new start-up company, The Cannabis Consultant found at The Trap House of NJ LLC. Every strain of flower i take high res photos for my customers, of of fresh weekly flower flown in from the west coast. Indoor Grown and Medical Grade ONLY. That 21 Ultra paired with a few cheap amazon accessories and i'll have my low-budget photo-boother set-up in NO-TIME!
There is 1 device i would choose over the S21 Ultra, the Xiaomi Mi11 Pro...
Lol, oh dear my fine sir. If you just read like two of the posts on the main XDA page for the S21U, then you'd have the answer without needing to post a question.
So I'll dumb it down a tiny bit for you:
The answer is NO. You will not be able to unlock the bootloader of any S21 variant purchased in North America. This has been the case since some time in March if you purchased the phone then or later. Granted, if you purchased the phone before March (and hadn't updated it in the past two months), then you would've been able to pay a few different people around $125 to unlock your bootloader. You just wouldn't be able to flash newer, official updates anymore as they'd relock your bootloader permanently.
But if you buy the phone now, it'll come with a potentially permanently locked bootloader. I say "potentially" because someone might eventually find a way to unlock these updated bootloaders with another token method or something similar.
So it looks like it's Xiaomi for you!
Post Comment - But if you just need the phone to take good pictures, then a bootloader locked S21U will still do the job. My phone is currently in the same state lol. But hey, also feel free to PM me and let me know if you need me to take any flower pictures for you. Cannabis is indeed legal where I am now and so I would flourish in this type of work (as I also love cannabis), haha.
