Storage issues - ASUS ROG Phone II Questions & Answers

Recently, I have been trying to download some games and after 3 years of having this phone, I got a warning that my storage was full. I never bothered to check the storage of the device since I got it since I thought I wouldn't need to check it.
It said my storage was almost full, meanwhile I tried to analyze the storage files and apps and all that with 3 different apps (File Manager of Asus, Google FIles and SDmaid), and all my files occupy less than 40gb while my device says the total amount of storage my phone has is 128gb. I barely have any apps that occupy too much space on it. Also to note, this isnt the Tencent version, it's the WW, never flashed ROM on it, it runs the latest OS from Asus. How is that possible? Here is an example:

Hi, it's strange that 0b is showing for applications... The only thing I can recommend is to delete everything you don't need on your phone. "Other" takes up almost 19GB. Try to remove it somehow. I know you probably expected a different answer, but this is my solution :/ or you can reset the phone to factory settings and everything will be deleted on your phone and you will have a completely clean phone again like when you turned it on for the first time. Don't forget to back up your photos, contacts and everything you need.

[Q] Internal SD - clearing/cleaning space

Dear friends,
I am hoping for some advice. I was looking to clear some space on my internal SD (the only storage I have) and was wondering if anyone can advise me on how to do so. Below you can see what my phones memory consists of at the moment.

As you can see there is a rather large 'other' section. Is this normal? I'm not really sure what might be in there other than the OS (RocketRom v3) and the zip files plus other odds and ends and it feels too big to be just that?
If it isnt normal then please let me know how I might be able to clean my internal SD up. I don't mind if it means reflashing the ROM.
Obviously I should just buy an external SD if I want space
Sorry for my jumbled post. I have been drinking a lovely bottle of red wine.

I think 2nd paragraph's 2nd sentence is your answer Apart from image, video, music files whatever else is there will be considered as Other. One Rom itself will be around 800MB (Rocket rom) which is almost 7% of 11GB. So, this rom+zip files+other files will be considered as Others, which will make "Others" look bigger
Have a look at this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.levelokment.storageanalyser
Very useful for detecting what's eating up your space. Maybe there are some left overs in android/data or obb. You'll recognise them by the grey icons.
Cheers, Markus
Couple of more apps.. SD Maid & Thumbnails File Deleter...for deleting thumbnails cache etc (/DCIM/.thumbnails/..)..

Apps storage problem

Hello,
I'm not here to complain about the "Other Storage" problem, but a similar one:
I manually flashed my Lumia 920 with NCS and, of course, the cloud backup helped me to restore the application and all the rest. Unfortunately, my Whatsapp and Viber conversations didn't backup themselves, so I lost all of them and don't know why (this was a big problem, but not the main problem i'm gonna talking about).
The problem here is that all my apps now fill A LOT of more space than before (I attach you some pics so you can see). I decided updated to Amber and GDR2 last night hoping that would solve the problem but it did not.
Any idea?...

The application installation packages are stored on the phone (Not deleted after installation like any other phone, causing a massive expansion in file size. This might go down over time (WPCentral says GDR2 fixes this issue), but this isn't very likely.

[Q] Mystery "streaming media" app using data

Hey all,
Droid 3 using Minimoto 1.7 (Safestrap install) here. I've been using the phone as normal for almost a year before this happened -
{

"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Can anyone help me figure out what this "streaming media" app is? I was using the internet as normal one day and suddenly I noticed it had gulped 100MB in a very short time. At that point I thought it might have been the Youtube app (which Advanced Task Killer reported was running in the background) streaming crap so I deinstalled the app (also turned off 'allow apps from unknown sources'), rebooted the phone, and very carefully browsed for a bit while checking the data usage frequently. Suddenly it had taken another 130 MB.
I only have 500MB per month which is my only non-work internet access and I watch it like a hawk. This "thing" has now eaten half of that. Extremely annoyed!
Right now the only thing I have installed that might be considered "streaming media" is Soundcloud, which I haven't even run in a couple months. I'm getting worried about malware, etc. as I have no idea what this is nor what it's doing. I've never seen that show up in the data logger before. BTW the data logging app is My Data Manager but I have confirmed the extra data use appears on my bill, i.e. it is 'real' data and not just a bug in the app. I have "auto update apps" turned off in the Play Store and the "system updates" screen comes up blank (didn't think Minimoto would 'pull in' updates anyway?)
Also, I put my SIM card back in my old phone (HTC Dream running Android 1.5) and it works just as it always did with no unexplained data. At this point I don't want to get the Droid online at all for fear that it would gobble up the rest of my data and go over. (I thought of running something like Avast or Malwarebytes but it seems they are only legitimately available from the play store which means the phone must be online - argh!)
Any help appreciated - thanks in advance!

Tablet storage info incorrect

I have pretty generic android tablet (Pie). The internal storage shows two different values. It appears to display the storage amount doubled on the main storage settings page but when you click on internal storage it shows the correct storage amount. This prevents me from putting many apps on the tablet because it quickly reaches the 32GB max internal storage. Any idea why this would happen. I'm including a picture of the two storage screens to show you what I mean.

that is not double storage but storage occupied by system
if you are using android oreo then system minimum use 8 to 10 gb of storage so 11+10 = 21 gb so its basically correct.

That can't be right. When you look at device storage, in the tablet settings, in 23.32GB used of 32GB. When you click on internal storage it says 11.66GB used of 32GB, which is exactly half of 23.32. No matter what apps I add the one value is ALWAYS double the other.
Also, the values don't add up. When you click on internal storage, it shows only 8GB dedicated to system, .12GB for Photos, .5GB for Music and 23Gb for Movie and TV Apps, 6.9GB for other apps. When you total all these up, they do not equal 11.66 or 23.32, so I'm not sure what's going on.
I have multiple android devices in my home. None of them do this. None of them display conflicting values for internal storage. This tablet is the only one that does this. I have way more apps on my android phone and it only takes up 22GB. So, something is definitely not right. I even did a factory reset.
try to clear caches and reboot it may help

i don´t know if a lot of people are having this problem, because i can't find anything about it on the internet.
The storage is with available space to allocate virtual memory, do not undestand why is appering 0 gb.
I have root recently on it, but this problem extends before root and bootloader unlock
I´m using the swapper app as an alternative, but wanted to use this native function of the phone, i need help
Same problem, but i dont think thas feature is so crucial. The phone has a good performance on normal tasks
me too. but i saw a difference if disabled. so i think it work. but amount of extra ram is missing. i think is a little bug that will be solved
mine was enabled after the recent update.
it says the same thing: 0 gb.
Having the exact same problem
It's the same on my device (note10 5g exactly same specs as poco m3 pro 5g), but I don't know how to investigate as a reliable way.
It seems to be an unreliable option that always stays at '0'. I have not noticed any change when it is turned on or off.
I did some tests, I use a command (as root) that I developed under 'golang cross compiled arm64' that compresses using all available cores, and the available memory doesn't increase but remains stable until android crashes (self reboot).I don't know if this is really telling, but from what this option seems to indicate, the available memory should increase...
I'm on 12.5.xx actually, this problem already existed on 12.0.xx.
I don't know if it's my device or if it's something that's present for everyone.
All ideas / info are welcome.
EDIT: I realize that my testing method is unconventional, but it tests the very things I am interested in.
you don't need to use this settings because the device already got big enough swap/zram.
for my device poco m3 pro 5g 6/128 i have 4GB default swap/zram without using this feature and i thing its big enough.
you can check your swap/zram size with "DiskInfo" or "DevCheck"
a pilot beta is out for pilot user. i have installed. ram extra now work, but is better disabled. because enable swap. and swap slow sistem
12.5.3 fixed work now for me
work but system work better by disabling
The new 12.5.3.0.RKSEUXM made memory extension add 1GB instead of the old 0GB of RAM .
