hello I'm planning on getting S10 5G with the global version (SM-G977B)
I want to get back to Android 10 using odin normally, but I'm not sure. Would that be safe or I will trigger some arb stuff??

It depends what binary the phone comes with. You can check what binary it has by doing this: link. If you haven't bought it yet but want to know if Android 10 is supported by it you would have to ask the seller what binary version it has. It looks like Android 10 on that model is supported up to binary version 6, so as long as the firmware it comes with is binary 6 or lower you should be good. See here for available Android 10 firmware for that device: link. Let me know if you have any questions.
So for example in that S20 Ultra 5G
G988BXXSGHWD4
It's not safe to go back to Android 10 (Binary C) because right now it has Android 13 (Binary G), but at the other cases if they are the same, it would be just fine to go back
Did I get that right?
btw I recently downgraded my SM-G981U1 from G981U1UEU4HWD1 to G981U1UES3FVK1 and it was just fine. I'm sorry but can you explain that for me because I'm pretty confused here.
Thank you for your help :")

Yes, it should be impossible: link, link, link (look at quote in first answer).

I really don't know, it should be impossible.
^Agree^
On a stock Samsung with a locked bootloader it should impossible to do that if the version is less than the current one. It's a built in safeguard to protect the kernel from being hacked as I understand it. Locked bootloaders use digital signatures to verify the Android code it's loading.
With Snapdragon N10+'s people have rolled back from 12 to 11 but not 10 or 9. Rollback from 10 to 9 isn't possible from everything I've seen. Not sure about 13. Maybe there's some wiggle room on some versions not indicated by it's binary?
With an unlocked bootloader this doesn't apply.
Meh, I simply leave the firmware be on Androids as this works well for my applications. As such Androids are exceptionally stable and loads are long lived.

Hi there. I have a Xiaomi Mi 8 (from Three) which I have currently got the region set to India, mainly so that I can use Face Unlock, Theme Store, etc.
What I'd like to know is, if I continue to use the Mi 8 under the India region, will I still get the MIUI 10 update when it's released, as its not set to UK?
Thank you for any help on this matter.
Unlock your BL, install MIUI EU and you can freely choose any themes you want without any stupid restriction from Xiaomi.

Thank you for your response, but I haven't a clue how to unlock the BL and where I'd get a non hacked version of MIUI EU from.
I'd probably end up bricking the phone. lol
I'm just worried that if I keep using it under a different region, I won't receive the update.

Usually updates are pushed to phones based on the build number. If yours is a UK variant then it'll have a UK variant build number (most likely). I wouldn't have thought the region setting you put in when first starting & setting up the phone would make any difference. But don't quote me on that...

Many thanks for that.
I initially bought this phone as a work phone, but I actually enjoy using it more than my S8+, plus I've heard that MIUI 10 (plus Android Pie) is way better than MIUI 9.6.
Thanks again.

I'm actually not an owner of the phone myself (yet) still torn between this and the Honor 10. Hard to choose between such good budget phones these days.
Glad I could help though.

I can confirm that MIUI 10 based on Pie is WAY better. Just the "OK Google" hotword detection to fix and it'll be pretty much perfect.
I'm in the UK, use mine with both my work and personal SIM in - I'm running the latest ROM from Xiaomi.eu (MIUI 10.2 - Weekly 8.11.23).
It's great.
Also have installed the custom GCam for it, which is superb! I use the Xiaomi cam for video and portrait mode and the Google Camera for everything else - night mode is seriously impressive.

I bought my daughter the Honor 10 for her last birthday. It's a great looking phone with a very good camera/cameras. The back of the Honor 10 (blue) has to be seen to be believed, it looks amazing.
I must admit, the Xiaomi does have the edge when it comes to the screen, but it is a close battle.
I do love the camera slightly more (it's very close) on the Xiaomi too, but everything just seems a little more stable with the Honor 10 and it's EMUI skin on Android 8. I've had a few older apps that have refused to run on the Xiaomi.
That will hopefully change on the next Xiaomi update.

As no one is not giving a answer, so I'll try to help you out.
It's no matter what you have chosen, if you have the stock recovery, you'll always receive OTA updates. You can not change the stock recovery without an unlocked bootloader which can be achieved by the official tool provided by Xiaomi, for further information, use Google.
Unlocked bootloader gives you access to all functions of your device, and this means that you can use even a Pixel device Android "mod", and it's the closest to the native Android.
If you are using IM apps too often, you'll notice that your notifications are not being delivered just in time. also, MIUI has tons of bloatwares and limitations that won't allow you to use your device freely, and appearantly Xiaomi is collecting some "not innocent" data from your phone, so you might want to consider your privacy. These are just my perspective as an user that was on Android for 7 years, I hope you will enjoy your device.
Have a great night.

Perhaps you will need to update it manually. Get the very first Android 9 release from official forums, and try to sideload it.
Hello forum.
I am on the latest BTU UK version
Of android 10, but I wish to
return to pie. Do I basically just flash
A pie stock ROM? I Want to
Use the light ROM or galaxy project ROM .... So is it straightforward?
Thank you
GARY
Check current bootloader version if it is higher than on old pie firmware than it is a no go otherwise just use Odin
You can flash Pie, version N960FXXS4CSK2

So...SK1 wouldn't work???
Bootloader version is 5th character when you count back from end of build number. It will be S4 or U4..the number is the bootloader you are on.

Did you manage to return back to Pie?
And do you mind me asking why you didnt get on with Android 10 UI2?
I'm on Pie UI1, and I'm concerned about updating and 'breaking' some of the current features that work on my Note9
Thanks

Android 10 takes a bit of getting used to (so does Android 11 DP1 on my Pixel 3XL) -
I downloaded Odin versions of pie SK1 and latest android 10 build, as well as the twrp for the different OS, have gone back and forwards between 10 and different roms on pie, and no problems, as long as you got backup, odin and a stock rom
I tried downgrading to pie Odin reads everything but doesn't flash. It says write failed after a long time. I am using Alienware laptop I'm not sure if there is something I'm supposed to do. Any ideas. Thanks

This is best your note 9 is on a newer bootloader. it is not possible to flash the old bootloader required for android pie
I was able to downgrade my Note 9 from android 10 to Pie pretty easily, but that was with the 1st release of android 10 for the Note 9. I think the newest version of android 10 has a different bootloader. So you would need to unlock the bootloader before you can downgrade to Pie.

that would be because youre on bootloader 4 and thus can downgrade to the latest pie version on bootloader 4
I have an Exynos that has been bootloader unlocked. I flashed someone's version based on Android 10 last year and am looking to move up to 11.
Can someone please point me to a walkthrough? I still have Odin, etc. installed on my computer. Thanks.
*Is* there a path forward to get to Android 11 on a rooted international (exynos chipset) Note 9?
I picked up an open box return S20FE recently. I immediately updated the software, and now wondering if I made a mistake.
It seems I would have been better off staying on 11 if I wanted to root.
Thoughts?
Thanks!
(btw, love this phone, really underrated IMHO)
Probably. A lot have rolled back from 12. That may be an option if the bootloader wasn't updated too.
Personally I stayed with Android 9 and 10 on my N10+'s, I prefer Pie.

on a snapdragon version of the FE you should be able to flash the last 2 or 3 builds of OneUI 3.1 as the bootloader version number is still the same as now.
Hello
everything will depend on your variant of s20 fe
G781B / You can go back to android 11 (firmware india, spain)
G780G (snapdragon)(4G)
can go back to android 11
the other variants currently only up to android 12

right now i have redmi 9 lava (3/32) and seeing the new redmi 9 lancelot official rom i wonder if it will work on my phone without problems. Has anyone tried it?
I have the 4Gb RAM version and LOS 20 works fine although its using up to 2.8Gb RAM. Personally I wouldn't run Android 13 aka LOS 20 on a 3Gb RAM phone. I actually wish I got the 6Gb RAM version.

I currently have the pixel experience rom installed and it definitely runs much better than stock. You didn't encounter any problem with the installation, did you? Also if you have any problem I would like to hear it. Thank you very much my friend for the reply!
In addition, updates are done normally?
Yes there is weekly OTA updates. Also yes LOS 20 runs much better than stock, faster and uses less ram, on stock miui 13 Android 12 I couldn't even run two apps at the same time such as Outlook and Chrome. As for installation you need MIUI 13 Android 12, the latest stock rom, otherwise LOS 20 won't work, I believe it will bootloop. I just followed the instructions on LOS website, didn't have any problem.
Also I used the default LOS recovery instead of TWRP as TWRP isn't updated anymore and I wasn't sure if it will work. You need to unlock bootloader using Xiaomi app or a script from here Xda if you don't want to wait several days for the Xiaomi app unlock as there is a waiting timer, idk why Xiaomi did this.
you have me completely covered. I have done this process many times and know what to do, thanks for the advice anyway. You sure have the "lava" version right? Because you mentioned above that you wanted to buy the version with the 6gb ram which is only available in the Lancelot version and I would like to be sure

ok thank you again.
With a little research I had done, I believed that the LOS rom was not exactly designed for my phone but for another version (there are roms that say it's for the lava version and roms that say it's for the Lancelot version). I'll try to install it soon and hopefully I won't have any problems. Thank you very much
